      @@jfloresrodriguez3875 Some stores sell them, but your best bet is a breeder. They are around 150-300 dollars on the hedgehogs alone, but it depends on the state. They're also illegal to own in a few states, so you should check if you can own one in your state.

      Wow i just pick them up in the garden for free when they're too underweight to survive winter. Put them back out in the spring. Hedghog hospitals will have free hogs for adoption. Theyre often overloaded from November and injured ones my not be able to go back into the wild.

    Very useful video, thank you. I don’t think my hedgie needs any heat lamp. He lives in the caribbean a normal day here can be over 100*F of course inside the house it’s usually in the high 70s. It’ll never drop below 73 in the winter and it’s almost impossible that it will reach 69. He never burries entirely, so I know he’s not feeling cold. Again thanks for your vides I enjoy them very much.

    How long can you leave a hedgehog alone? If you can't leave them alone for a long time I don't know what to do when I go on vacation. If I get a pet sitter, do they have to let the hedgehog out or just bond and feed with the hedgehog?

    • @dannyalion6903

      get a pet sitter that will blond with them. you don't want them to get hard to handle. when it comes to Hegies you need to try every night take them out & play with them. also try leaving your old shirts that smell like you to your hegie as a blanket so they continue to have memmory of your smell. & make sure the pet sitter changes the shirts every night

    If I have a fan on in my room at night and it gets a bit chilly does a hedgehog still need any heat source even with a lot of bedding and hides? It’s going to be in a 200qt bin cage so the walls will be solid and it will go on a storage rack in my room so there will be a few inches above it until the other bin on the other rack, so there’s enough room for ventilation but I’m not sure if there would really be a draft consisting but I do keep my room pretty cool. I will pile up Kaytee or carefresh on the one side though?

    Hi. Would a setup of a 3.93 foot by 1.64 foot vivarium with perhaps extra vents (the bottom sealed with safe sealant) and a ceramit heat emitter on a pulse thermostat at 23-24oc on the hot side and 21 on the cool measured by digital thermometers be ok?
    I'm thinking this setup with puppy pads topped with a fleece liner (purpose made with no threads) and 1 litter box with wood pellet litter or aspen in underneath the wheel (a carolina storm wheel) and another litter box in another corner filled with aspen or pellets (boxes low enough to be accessible), with a snuggle sack and covered plastic igloo for sleeping and a small ramekin bowl for food be ok? Possibly a soft fleece tunnel or wooden tunnel as well and lots of safe to use cat balls and toys (not to be catching little hedgie feet).
    I am thinking a heavy but small ceramic bowl for drinking as i've heard bad things about water bottles.

    • @ToriLynnPPH
      @ToriLynnPPH  7 років тому

      +daniela jae There is. :) The main difference is the drying process. Kiln dried pine is perfectly safe for hedgehogs and is used very frequently in litter trays to keep odors down. Regular pine and any kind of cedar bedding are not safe.

    Do you think some olive or canola oil mixed with some water in a squirt bottle would work for hedgie dry skin? Obviously would have to shake it up every time before use, but I would think it would help distribute it a little better than just trying to rub straight oil on them, just have to let them dry afterwards right? Or would they need another bath afterward?

      +Nour-Al-Hayah Mohamed In theory it would work, but you'd need to be sure to use distilled water and not tap to prevent any unwanted bacteria growth.
      I'd also be worried about them being a little too greasy afterward - the benefit of using the oils in the bath is that if they have too much on them they can be rinsed off a little. So I would use a very light hand if you plan on trying it :)
      You can also invest in moisturizing sprays if making your own doesn't work out. Humilac has been discontinued but Brisky's Spine n Shine is still available as far as I know.

    Hi, I’m getting a hedgehog in December (currently on a waitlist for a breeder) and I live right by train tracks, would this be okay for hedgehogs since they have sensitive hearing and are skittish? Would they adapt over time?

      No I don’t think they would they don’t see well so hearing is one of there only senses Also it would elongate your bonding process extreme

    Please Reply. Hi PugPibbleHedgie! I know this is off topic on this video but I need to know about your hamsters cage , The additional floor / platform you made out of Lolly / Popsticle sticks. Did you use Non toxic clue and does your Hamster chew on it alot? Thanks for reading :)

    • @ToriLynnPPH
      @ToriLynnPPH  9 років тому

      Izaak - IzaakFx I used non toxic hot glue. My hamster hasn't bothered it at all, but if your hamster is a chewer, I'd recommend non toxic childrens school glue, or a flour and water paste :)

    alright, i have a hedgehog and i LOVE your videos and i want to change to a bowl instead of a bottle(i heard they break teeth and their tounges can get stuck😷😷) what kind of bowl should i get?? and where did you get your snuggle sacks??

    • @ToriLynnPPH
      @ToriLynnPPH  8 років тому

      I recommend the Living World Ergonomic bowl, I love it. But any bowl that isn't too big, and is heavy enough not to be tipped, works well :)
      Tongues can only get caught in water bottles that are spring loaded, which aren't safe for any animals.
      And as for snuggle sacks and such, I have a cosy collection video you can check out with the link to every store I shop at :) The link to the video is in the description.

      this lady is crazy !!!
      1 Hedgehogs like sand , they love digging and cleaning themselves with a sand bath, I am sure they hate this ridiculous BLANKETS for a human baby 2 Hedgehogs hate light 3 They don't have personality (maybe she could use the word character or behaviour) 4 she must keep the wheel out ( is not a hamster, it is very rare to see a hedgehog running on the wheel ) 5 I am sure that she is not respecting they time table and wake up them always in day time... This LADY !!!SHOULD BE MORE CREATIVE ... AND CREATE A NICE ENVIRONMENT FOR THIS POOR LITTLE ANIMAL ... THE HEDGEHOGS POO ON THEMSELVES BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT HAPPY ...OTHERWISE THEY ARE SUPERCLEAN ANIMALS !!! GODDAM THIS B...

    my new hedgie slipped into the clothing i left for her to associate my smell and stopped moving all together. i checked if she's alive or not occasionally, she's alive but barely moving even at night. from my research i learned that i shouldn't mess with them for at least 2 or 3 days but i'm very worried about her, how can i tell if she's attempting hibernation or going through wobbly hedgehog syndrome without alerting her? :(
    it's about 22 to 24 degree celsius which is about 71 to 75 fahrenheit here

    • @ToriLynnPPH
      @ToriLynnPPH  7 років тому +4

      +Justino “d_nope” Prado Hedgehogs definitely do not need to be left alone for multiple days when they come home. You should start bonding immediately.
      Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome is a slow progressing neurological disease similar to MS is humans. I highly doubt that is her issue.
      It sounds much more likely that she is too cold. You need to pick her up and feel her belly. If it is cold, you need to hold her to your skin under some blankets to warm her up gently. Do not put her on a heating pad or in warm water, as you'll shock her system. Skin-to-skin contact is the best way to warm her back up.
      Do you have a heat setup for her? 71°-75°F is the low end of their spectrum, and many hedgehogs need 75°-80° to prevent hibernation attempts.

    • @takeyourpickbigchongoose
      @takeyourpickbigchongoose 7 років тому

      She's pretty much stuck to my one sweatshirt's sleeve, very difficult to interact with her through skin (she's the shy type) Is it normal for hedgies to not make any sound while sleeping in their hideout? Mine doesn't which is very concerning.
      I'm currently running a heater in my living room, it's about 75 °F atm. I do have a heating pad but I have no idea how to use it, I slipped it under my severed sleeve but removed it immediately after reading about shocking her system like you mentioned.
      Should I invest in one of those heat setup from one of your videos? I live in Macau which is fairly warm starting from spring with around temperatures around 71°-73 °F outside...very conflicted atm :(
      PS The heating pad itself is designed for reptiles but from what I got from the shop owner, it works just as well for hedgies.
