Wow! Such a powerful song so beautifully sang! When I hear this ancient ballad and its deeply poignant lyrics, I think of my oldest sister who lost her firstborn child. It was a rough few years after it. She struggled quite a bit. However, she persevered, maintained her faith and went on to have other children. This song reminds me so much of that time of heartbreaking sorrow, emerging hope and abiding strength.

We lost our little dog (named Tiny Tim) earlier this month; he suffered from heart failure and as his lungs filled with fluid, he found it increasingly difficult to breathe. On the morning we scheduled to put him to sleep, he curled up in my lap and this song came on. Being a ballad of grief and hope, it’s a sad song in the best of times and to listen to it as you hold your dying dog is truly an emotional sledgehammer. Thank you for such a beautiful piece.
