To be honest he didnt came to this place as a monster. His brother, his daughter and wife , Furies son , Pandora got him a bit softer slowly. Faye found a god who wants to change. So he didnt came to her immediately as '' i wanna change''.

Pretty sure Kratos was like “Nobody can fucking change me! I’m a Spartan! I’m a WARRIOR!”

I’m sure Faye would die right there battling with Kratos like if they met earlier.
you can tell Faye has got that Gorilla Grip
She literally said “Give me a God of War” when selecting her difficulty and tamed that god of war
After a lifetime full of violence, betrayal, rage and grief, Faye's wisdom is what Kratos needed to hear to finally learn to live and love again.

Every time Kratos dream with Faye in it, he doesn't want to wake up from it, that's why he always like having a nightmare when he wake up. But this time he's waking up peacefully, like he's already let go Faye. I swear this game is masterpiece, man
The story is a narrative masterpiece.
funny TLOU2 vs chad GOW Ragnarok
It's especially more meaningful when you remember that Kratos spent the better part of his life plagued by nightmares. His mistakes repeating over and over before his very eyes.
To dream of Faye is not a curse. To him it was a blessing
More “Accepted” than let go. In my eyes, to live in a world without her physically but with her spiritually, to accept the world as she would, wholeheartedly, vulnerable and willingly.
@@theonlymann1485 last of us 2 was a big let down story wise the game play is solid tho

And he deserved that Peace

He found his small measure of peace.
I was worried that Faye was simply playing Kratos and Atreus in some sort of chess for her own end, the reveal in the last game didn't help much. But to see that everything she planned out, everything she did, was for Kratos and Atreus to come out okay, made me realize that she truly is one of the best people in this series. Everything was real, nothing was fake.
I honestly found myself so conflicted about this, on one hand I was thinking yeah that’s pretty messed up if she used kratos as a pawn after everything he’s been through, but on the other hand after constantly hearing about all Odin has done to her people and others I thought to myself “damn could I even blame her if she did? This mf has to go” 😂😂
Nah, Odin was the fakest this entire game
Lol its okay for Trust Issues in term of God Of War. From the first till now, trickery is quite common my man

I love that his most peaceful dream of Faye came right after he told Atreus a story to help him sleep.
Kratos: I have to comfort my son
Universe: I have to comfort kratos
The story was also about Kratos attempting suicide which makes the dream with Faye so much more meaningful and beautiful too
It’s comforting to know that Kratos found some semblance of peace after all he went through
And only death can fullfill it. And he searches for it
After all the shxt they went through they are still together…

Deborah Ann was perfect for this role. She gives off that gentle vibe.
Is that actually Deborah Ann Woll playing Faye?!
Damn Faye does look like her

"The culmination of love is grief. And yet we love despite the inevitable. We open our hearts to it."
"To grieve deeply is to have loved fully. Open your heart to the world as you have opened it to me, and you will find every reason to keep living in it."
As someone whose struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts, these lines tore me apart. I had to put down the game cause I couldn't stop crying. It's like I've needed someone to tell me these words for years and I'm so glad I've heard them. Sometimes the one things scarier than dying is living, and the one thing scarier than living is being happy and fulfilled, loving so deeply while knowing the pain you'd feel if ever it were lost. It still frightens me. But Faye and the people in my life like her remind me to have courage in the face of loss. To love in spite of fear.
Keep finding reasons to live. The struggle builds the person and makes him/her stronger. Blessings to you and I hope you find your strength and then your peace. Also, wonderful game.
Heyy you got this man! How are you doing now!?

Ikr it really made me think
@@Naiobabe97 Nah because I started to cry too, between the whole scene with faye and kratos's old man and the log story I cried.
This part is absolutely touching, Kratos inspires me so much. Despite going through hell and back multiple times he doesn’t let his past over come him. To continue onward and help others is a reason why he is OUR favorite character of all time and definitely tells us we should not judge a book by its cover until actually reading it.
Definitely one of the best written characters out there.
i really like the character building on kratos....from warmonger to a real father...
uhh...
Unfortunately far too many instinctually "judge the cover". Really only those with great wisdom and patience can see beyond the cover and see the whole human being, and Faye did that magnificently.
You should look up guts from berserk
The pain their absence makes, proves how much their presence meant.
Truly the most underrated comment, fore this is the gist of the matter. The writers did an impeccable job on this scene. You are goated @Crazemonkey2
I lost my wife to COVID a year ago. She watched me play the last game. When this scene rolled. . .I lost it. Christopher Judge and Deborah Ann Woll did an great job to give them so much emotion to their words. Just seeing how Kratos' stone will slowly cracks [ 5:52 ] [ 7:21 - 7:30] as Faye speaks about her soon-to-be death so easily, you can hear him slowly fearing the thing that he always didn't care for, the future - a future without the one who gave him a reason "leading him home" Yet, she keeps on reminding that she will always live on in his heart.
Personally he effected me since this is how my chain emotions went about and yet, I keep my wife's memories within me. It gives me reason to keep on going.

Best romantic scene I have ever seen
Nothing have touched me deeply like this scene when u see god of war kratos who never been sad but only with anger and vengeance became in feya’s hands so broken and calm
Yet another love story better than Twilight.
She would have looked better with a Hijab
"never been sad?" Dude, did you see his grief when he saw what he did to his family? When he stabbed Athena? When Deimos died? That scene where the Harpies tried fooling him into thinking he was back with his family? What about the man who asked Kratos to kill him? He couldn't even look him in the eyes as he did it; it hurt too much.
Yes, Kratos had a period of being a cruel, unyielding monster. You can blame the Gods for jerking him around so much as anyone would snap under those circumstances. Did he take things out on innocent people? Yes and it was needless, but he now regrets it and is stuck serving penance through redemption.
All this man ever wanted was to be home with his family, but he keeps losing people to the point where he fears it. You don't get that way without being horrendously hurt and sad. Pay more attention to the cut scenes next time.
@@Abdullah_ibn_Sayyad Ola Uber!

But now he kratos is different man who cries even when he is telling a story for his son!
I see he have never been sad for grief he didn’t even take the grief for his family he continues to kill and seeking vengeance whatever it cost him and it didn’t work but it became a cycle of guilty feeling that never ended till he destroyed Olympus then the vengeance ended by killing him self
The man who asked kratos to kill him he did so also for vengeance and left that man and continues his cycle
When he stabbed Athena bruh he looked into her eyes and said I will destroy Olympus
I'd be down for a sidestory/dlc of Kratos when he first came to Midgard and met Faye.
Like a dlc that incorporates elements from the comics and new ones?

I think we are lucky that she died of illnes otherwise if sge was killed we would have got old Kratos with young one vibes.

This game is brutal. It constantly characterizes these battle hardened men as remorseful, grievous, and broken. Keeps reminding us that the strongest souls have bared the worst pains. Brilliant!
Faye changed Kratos for the better. Kratos went through hell when Ares tricked him to kill his family, betrayed by Zeus out of fear and used by Athena to destroy Greece by killing the Gods. Faye saw the good in Kratos to help him atone for his sins.
Faye's quotes really reminds me of Vision's quote from Wandavision, "What is grief, if not love persevering?".

The most important part in a romantic scene is not a kiss but two characters that understand each other so well that they could see into each others heart not their secrets or past but love.this is the true meaning of love that they could grieve together heal together. they could make themselves better together for the good. Open their hearts to the world together. That is love.
We must be better.
The forehead embrace is much less... raunchy than a kiss, I prefer it. I don't know if raunchy is the word but you know what I mean.
@@ultimatevtgb7551 It is less "raunchy" or classically "passionate" than a kiss but speaking from experience it conveys as much as if not more love than a kiss with your partner. It shows a very deep and close connection to each other.
@@ultimatevtgb7551even a peck is more “raunchy” in the context of this scene. It’s so intimate and vulnerable that only an embrace feels appropriate.
for a man with a full beard, kratos' face is so expressive, he says so much without even speaking... ngl this scene was a punch to the gut in the best way.
When Kratos puts his head down at 7:03 he looks so much like a sad child. That's how losing someone you're in love with feels. I got teary eyed at that part.
Kratos being a dad is so fucking fulfilling, not like a half-assed dad, a genuine dad. Kratos has finally done it lads, become happy.
I really love Faye's final line of dialogue in this scene. Not only does it speak to Kratos, but it likely speaks to everyone who has lost a loved one and is afraid/unsure of how to move on and love again. Man, this game is fucking fantastic.
I think the story is about Kratos himself, when he wanted to die for like the 500th time, only this time his grief was over Faye's death. And he couldn't continue the story because that's when he remembered she wanted both of them to live on, not with sorrow over her dead body (hence why the cremation), but with hope and happiness.
"The culmination of love is grief
To grieve deeply is to have loved fully"
-Laufey, GOW 5
From True Blood, to Daredevil, and now God of War: Ragnarok. Deborah Ann Woll perfectly portrayed Laufey here.
Remembering that Atreus said Kratos didn’t really love her makes this scene hit harder.
He said that out of naïveté and anger, he didn’t know who his father is and what he had done up to that point. I like to think Atreus had a better understanding of him after all was said and done.
crazy how kratos lost his smile and love because of ares. and now he is loved again, great development for our beloved god killer.
Ares i mean, kratos worked for him until area tricked him into killing his own child and wife

*Kratos uses the log symbolizing the Spartans. Throwing down the logs symbolizes he was accepting defeat against the barbarians. Death symbolizes Ares. The writing and scripting in this game is 100/10.*
Are you sure Death isn’t when Kratos literally tried to kill himself? Because the story is finished later in the game and you can easily surmise that.
Log is symbolizing Revenge. The Revenge to the Gods for his people(Spartan) And death is when kratos try kill himself because he becoming 'weaker' not in term of physics of his, but his mentality
I think the logs symbolized the burden of life and the duty to continue on. He was tired and wanted to rest. He wanted to die, but when confronted with death, he's given the necessary perspective to appreciate life for what it is and decides to keep living, hence the passage, "he asked Death to help him load the logs on to his back."
@@Psyshimmer I think death is love.
Hear me out:
The logs in this story represent brutality and savageness in battle. The ability to disregard all human or otherwise morals and eliminate whatever is in front of him. We know kratos and fey met shortly after he arrived in Midgard, then fell in love.
Kratos wanted to be done with the killing. With the battles. With the wars. The "logs".
But because he so desperately called for the love he always wanted, aka "death", he realizes that to love is to fight. To love so deeply, that he is willing to stare into heimdalls eyes as he chokes the life out him after threatening atreus, is kratos learning that he can never put his blades down. He must fight for as long as he lives for his son.
I think that's why kratos decided to lead everyone. He knew that to keep the ones he loved safe, he would have to do anything and everything he is capable of.
the fact that these people are arguing what analogy kratos uses when he tells the story to atreus is what makes their dialogue so special. you can interpret it in so many ways that may or may not relate to the series at all but still produces a beautiful conclusion. writing and scripting is indeed a 100/10
This is probably one of the best dialogues I have ever heard. The Faye’s about how true love means were beautifully deep.
As much as it hurt Kratos to lose Faye, at least he was there by her side when she passed and she went peacefully.
Would love to know how they met. When Faye met Kratos he must have still been the Ghost of Sparta. Wonder how she both made him open up to her and help him change his ways to the extent he did.
It’s in the comics I believe
well Faye said when they met each other first time, they at each other throat, meaning they do the fight right away... probably seeing Faye really strong and kind, it melted Kratos's frozen heart.
@@Nematoda4ever From what little we hear they fought for a while in a stalemate until they eventually cooled off enough to talk.
Never thought I would play a action game with tears in my eyes.
When a video game invokes such strong emotions. It’s games like this that show video games are art
No, there is NO OTHER GAME that told a story as good as Ragnarok. PERIOD!
And I am willing to challenge anyone on this.
“To grieve deeply is to have loved fully. Open your heart to the world as you have opened it to me and you will find every reason to keep living in it.”
I didn’t think anything could change my view on life like that. Thanks for that Faye.
I cried at that moment.
This makes me want to hug my mother...and let her know how much I love her for everything shes done for me...
This game has the best soundtrack I have ever heard in my time in and associated with the video game industry. The chanting track playing at the culmination Kratos’ dream is flawless.
I would love to see their love story Faye looks so kind and peaceful but also teased Kratos
ironic how in the weeks before ragnarok, Kratos had troubles with his sleep due to nightmares. but the night before Ragnarok, he finally had the most peaceful sleep he has ever experienced. props to the dev and prod team to make kratos not only a war machine, but a human with deep rooted emotional trauma and shows how he was able to live with them and conquer them
There isn't a more difficult thing than anticipating the death of a loved one as told by them, especially someone who's very existence has reshaped your whole life for good. He knew she was going to die, he knew it was coming, it must have been extremely difficult for him.
Very few things can break a man like this, and this was definitely one of them. Her death definitely played a huge part in changing the man he was.
The first time I heard this theme . I didn’t know how much he loved Faye.. seeing this now tears my heart apart because I never got to see him so loving. Now all he has is his son and her memories
There’s no competition for this story bro. It’s a masterpiece
Before the game came out I was convinced elden ring would be GOTY, but after this specific scene I realized how wrong I was, this scene is just beautiful taking into consideration every single thing kratos has gone through.
I gotta admit that storywise this game kicks asses
Well in the end Kratos still maidenless :D

Faye is such a underrated character, I could be wrong, she so mysterious and such a great personality wife for Kratos. Which is why she was the reason of Kratos and Atreus story.
"the culmination of love is grief, yet we love despite the inevitable"
I love that you actually see that she does not want to die. She doesn't want to leave her family alone. But she also knows that they are strong enough to make it together, without her.
Almost cried on this part
Faye telling him to open his heart makes the moment during Ragnarok where he tells Atreus to do the same, the opposite of his advice in the first game, so great.
It's ok to hurt when you have loved. The pain is how you know it was real.
Faye’s dialogue on life & death is worded perfectly. It’s profound! This hits home.
Faye and Atreus taught Kratos how to love again. Let me cry for a moment, hold on.
This is not a game but a masterpiece indeed
Faye went beyond motivation by fate and revenge, to doing it for true love for Kratos and aretus
8:55 the scene alone is extremely beautiful and heartwarming but the music right here is enough to make kratos himself cry
When Faye said, "...I love hearing your voice" it somehow did something
The animation department deserves a damn award... the characters are so lifelike that they dont even need to speak to convey emotion. Just look at Kratos... When he is not even speaking he is pouring emotionally. Incredible work.
I remember reading not long ago that Deborah Anne Wolf was struggling to find work after Daredevil.
Seeing her in GOW: Ragnarok - arguably one of the if not the biggest game of year is deserved. Great actress.
Definitely the holy grail of storytelling
I just loved how every true father have a good stories for their children to learn
I love that while she knows all of the story and character of the Greek era Kratos and everyone in it from Olympian, Titan, hero and Sister of Fate, she aided and helped him grow and heal.
This scene was both so happy and so sad, especially with Faye's theme playing in the background.
*Goodbye, Faye.*
Amazing scene, I got absolute GOOSEBUMPS when the music started at the end
This was my FAVORITE SONG of the previous game...I am SO THANKFUL they brought it back in SUCH A PERFECT WAY.... beautiful...so beautiful...................☹️☹️☹️☹️
I lost my mother a long time ago it's just my father and I now Its so hard to watch this game I just...I don't have words for it...
This scene is fantastic and Deborah Ann Wolls performance is spectacular.
Those last to lines "To grieve deeply, is to have loved fully" and "Open your heart to the world as you have opened it to me and you'll find every reason to keep living in it" are brilliant.
I was so glad they decided to give Faye proper full fledged scenes through these flashbacks, and not just a fleeting image so that she really could have her own character, not just some vague specter pushing the main character along.
And it goes without saying, Deborah Ann Woll absolutely nailed it, bringing to life probably the only character in existence who could soften Kratos’ heart.
This games writing and the emotions it invokes are as deep as the ocean.
The old man is Kratos. The logs are wither his wars or his regrets. He thought he was gonna die in Ragnarok, that it was his last day with Atreus. That's why he had such emotion telling the story.
He wakes up from his first dream startled, as if it was a nightmare.
He wakes up from this one with incredible calm, making peace with the role Faye envisioned for him.
My man finally found peace, strongest being in all of existence, god killer , god of war ,brother, father, husband
It’s been a helluva ride . The best Video Game character
"Open your heart to the world and you'll find reason to keep living in it" really got me
Kratos' heart is full of love, the real love that can move mountains. Thats why Faye wanted him to share it with the world, so he could change it for the better. She knew EXACTLY who he is.
I am crying so bad every time I see Kratos with faye
Wasn’t expecting to cry at this scene
