Who would have thought back in 2005 that Kratos would become one of the deepest characters in videogame media?
It's only the first game and Kratos already goes through pain of losing beloved ones, guilt for taking their lives, anger because the god he served betrayed him. Yeah yeah, who would have thought that he will become one of the deepest characters in games???
@@sadfrog860 the first game wasn't much of a story. Just another story with a story of revenge. Story began to grow in gow2 and by 3 it was a masterpiece.
@@DripGoku777 and 4 took that masterpiece and made it so much better!
@Mark
I said "one of"
@Mark reread again carefully, he said ONE of man...
"Loki will go...Atreus remains."
FUCK...😢😢😢😢😢
That got me the hardest
Bro I cried when he said that.
Kratos may be dad of the year
Broooo That Hit Hard Fuck 😭😥😥😢
I broke down at that part. I couldn’t help it at that point.
Admit it... We all cried at the hug Atreus gave to Kratos...But cried like babies when Kratos cried. After years of service to the gods...years of slaughter vengeance and hate towards him...after losing hope and fighting to find it once more...after losing his wife and protecting his son... He finally got what he always wanted. Peace. You deserve it Kratos.
I called my father immediately
its pixels nothing to cry over
He got peace when he forgiven himself for the murder of his wife and daughter. Don't get me wrong, the last two games are good, but also way too campy and the emotional impact of their story is not that great.
Bold of you to assume I wasn't crying already
A tear fell from my eye but I didn't cry
3 huge things a learned from Kratos:
1. When you feel lost, you don't know what to do next in life, go home and collect yourself.
2. If you fucked up be it small or big, acknowledge it, live with it, be better next time.
3. Don't let emotions control you, control them instead.
Thanks man. 👍
*Be better.*
And don't be sorry, be better
*Chad grindset*
4. If you have a problem, smash it several times, and rip it apart)
We. Must. Be. Better.
What an ending, man. I can't believe God of War went from a badass hack and slash to the best developed protagonist in gaming. The Norse Saga was just perfection.
One of the best.
Cmon brother, the gaming world is too vast.
Going to make *the* most developed protag is impossible, because all the damn good ones are all so great
@@dj11o9er Agreed, however Kratos is up there with the top ones
@@jameshuff8584 all notable/popular game characters are up there tbh
The Greek Saga itself is a great story. The Norse Saga simply wrapped things up and made it the greatest.
@@dj11o9er I dunno man I think Kratos deserves to be the best
Here's the thing, all this time they thought it was Tyr that was gonna lead them to Ragnarok but, it was never mentioned in the shrines explicitly that it was Tyr, its only a drawing of someone with a Spear and a Shield
God of War was meant to lead Ragnarok, and he did. It just wasn't Norse God of War.
That's how prophecy be like
I think it was suppose to be Tyr but because Odin is afraid of the prophecy, he had Tyr locked away to prevent it. Of course, fate is a b*tch. Because Odin took preemptive measures to prevent Ragnarok, the prophecy corrected itself to have Kratos fill in Tyr part(since he is also a god of war) and have Odin die on Atreus's lap instead of Kratos(Since he is also a bearded man like Kratos).
You thought it was Tyr, but it was me, Kratos
I see it both ways one is that it is kratos instead of tyr the other is that it never mattered kratos and Atreus make their own destiny.
Legitimately maybe one of the best endings in modern gaming. Kratos weeping when he realizes he's finally worthy of being worshiped and admired as a god of peace and not as a destroyer. One of Gaming's most depthy and Nuanced characters.
"And what kind of God is that, Kratos? What do you even know of Godhood? In your lifetimes, has anyone ever worshipped you? Ever prayed to you? Can you imagine that kind of love? No... You don't care about mortals! You don't care about anything beyond yourself! Beyond the monster who kills without cause! You fear what you can never even hope to understand. Is it any wonder that your boy is in no rush to come back to you?"
Now we have the answer.
@@Cafearmuire Odin projecting real hard smh
@@shagarumedic that's what scumbags do. They project their own evils on others
@@shagarumedic Indeed, Atreus made the right choice.
@@CafearmuireOdin is no different from Zeus. Kratos is different because he was once a mortal who became a god through hard work and effort. He killed the gods of Olympus in a blind rage and felt intense grief when his world died because of it. Luckily the Norse gods weren't connected to their land.
I love how Kratos is depicted with the axe instead of the blades. Blades are made for war, an axe is useful in the time of peace but can also used in war.
Faye knew he hated the blades
Great, great comment! Thanks
Mimir: Well said brother.
An axe can fell a foe, or a tree in order to rebuild
The blades were used to destroy, but the axe will be used to rebuild
It’s crazy how far Kratos has come. From being a vengeful killer to a gentle giant. This guy has experienced both life and death numerous times.
I wouldnt call him "gentle" even nowadays lol
@@The-Deadite I would say more calm
@@juicymuscprod9624more at peace with himself...more understanding too. Deserving of the all father title unlike Odin
What's even crazier is that he did this while STILL carrying around severed heads!
Not gentle. But wiser.
Damn, if Athena’s still around I’ll bet she’ll be pissed. She wanted everything Kratos now has though he never sought it himself. She helped him to destroy an entire pantheon not caring about the collateral damage, but he tried to curb his destructive tendencies and reason with his enemies. And now he’ll be remembered for the peace he brought while she gets nothing and left in the dust.
Zeus and the others seeing him being loved & benevolent: Athena: Eh I COULD HAVE DONE ALL THAT! Zeus: Suuuuuuure.
Athena gonna try and influence atreus now and make him walk a nasty path or shes gonna tell Ra to fuck up Midgard and hope atreus becomes a monster and destroy Egypt.
@@M3TALG0DS
Another god of war game starring Atreus and taking place in the egyptian pantheon would be… Interesting.
@@selvbilde253 I wouldn't be shocked if Sindri out of anger looked up more about Kratos, and found out why he became who he was, and somehow resurrects Ares for vengence, and then uses his and hades magic to counteract the blades of chaos with some super new weapon like a grand sword or something and then when Kratos finds out and he has to fuck up Ares again. Then ares severes the link of the BoC, defeating kratos cause hes older then somehow Atreus can wield it and Kratos actually loses, and then Ares goes to destroy all of Egypt and Sindri is all "....what the fuck have I done?" Then Kratos tells Atreus its up to him to continue the path to benevolence and to save Egypt and you encounter those people in the comics and the Giants. And ambigoda is basically your sidekick. And then Sindri forgives Atreus and makes a new weapon for him and understands all he did was make things worse and yep, Either hopefully Ra/anubis & the others helps Atreus to stop this threat or THEY become THE threat and want to attack midgard for revenge.
@@selvbilde253 i was thinking the Hindu pantheons maybe.
@@M3TALG0DS I doubt that, Sindri is sad and broken, but not an evil bastard
I wonder if this is why Tyr didn't retake his place and became a wanderer instead. Kratos had put in the work to become the God of Peace after being a God of War for so long.
Considering you find Tyr after the ending, Kratos is way too hyped about the idea, to just throw it off to Tyr. He actually gives a shit now.
@@KosmataBradva True, and that is why he's more than earned it.

In my opinion a perfect ending is where an ending makes me cry. This was definitely rollercoaster of emotions throughout this game.

@@kuroroluxifer8321 I’m not really arguing that it’s impossible for them to be together due to the vengeance thing. It’s because it’d be very awkward to be with someone who killed your son.
I wouldn't call him the God of Peace but rather just the All Father. It's far more poignant in how everything Kratos has ever done has been through the love of family and in the role of protector that all father's become responsible for, he defeated those and whom were enemy to all realms under his protection. Where in the end of the second chapter of his life he wielded his awesome and unquantifiable power in defense of all...
And with Freya by his side, no less! The true All Father arrived, axe in hand, ready to build. Time for Kratos to chop more wood!
His name should be ABRAM
That’s is probably more accurate. He would do anything for his family and those who became part of it. Hell he only really takes on the role of the leader of ragneroke because brok dies.
He's the 'God of Peace' in the same way Tyr was supposed to be. Ruling through wisdom and understanding, not seeking war but always ready for it.
I wouldn’t call him the All Father either believe it or not he’s actually the god of golf
Imagine how shock atreus would be when he came back and found out he got a new mom and sibling
Sibling?
Uh, yeah, a sibling? Uh, right...
I have read from another YT comment that in Norse Mythology, Freya married another guy named Faubanti (spelling??) Or some other name. Freya and this other guy ended having a daughter. Also, Faubanti means "Divine Rage" or "Divine Frenzy" which we know who that is in the GoW-verse.
@@thegoodwin Half siblings I suppose (read this in Mimir's voice)
@@thegoodwin Didn’t the giants also call him Farbauti?
@@thegoodwin Farbauti is the name of Loki's father in the original myth. It's also the name the Giants gave Kratos. "Cruel Striker" is another translation, and I've read it to be interpreted as lightning, which would be fitting, seeing as how his father was Zeus. Freya and Kratos definitely have chemistry, although the whole Baldur thing might make things difficult.
Notice in the last panel how the art style differs compared to the others: splattered ink and chalk vs metal engravings. The metal engravings that were painted over in the last panel appear to be how we saw Kratos dying in Atreus' arms while Thor looked over them. The art style matches the paintings from the first scene of Angrboda (lots of yellows and splats) and she is the only possible giant that could've painted this. This can also represent how Kratos was able to change his fate of what the Norns foresaw. imo
Everyone thought it was Atreus holding a dead Kratos and doing some type of spell but it was really him holding a dead Odin and taking his soul out of his body, The only thing I can’t figure out is how angrboda survived? Did Faye instruct her to stay behind because someone needed to repaint the mural? It seems likeangrboda and Loki are the only giants left in human form
The figure standing behind Kratos on the mural is Thor, the positioning and shape is identical to Thor on the mural where Kratos is dead. And yeah that art completely differs, like Angrboda drew over it. Something is definitely wrong here and someone has changed something to alter the prophecy. We also still dont know who blew the horn to talk to Jormungandr in the previous game while Kratos was taking sick Atreus to Freyas. Next game were probably gonna have Adult Loki and Angrboda with their daughter. At some point later Mimir talks how Hræsvelgr is tired of watching over Helheim and wants to step down, you get only one guess who takes over.

Damn, the shock and disbelief on Kratos's face as he sees that panel. The idea that he could be a god worthy of worship. Worship not from fear but from adoration, gratitude, and love...it was almost too much for him.
"You are ready" got me choked up
"Atreus remains" Got a tear
"Seeing Kratos nearly break down after seeing the rewritten prophecy" that broke me
Also the fact that his end painting was made with the same paint he and Faye marked the trees with for when she would pass, probably made it that much more meaningful to Kratos. Even near the end, she believed in him always
My friends: you’ve seen this ending a hundred times!
Me: AND YET I STILL CRY!
Exactly
Yes
Imagine the heavy weight of guilt, agony and grief Kratos had with him all this time.
And now him seeing a prophecy of his redemption after what he been put through.
Kratos was never awful guy until the gods pushed him to be a monster ever since then he’s felt like he can’t help but mess everything up and destroy everything but it feels good to see that he’s finally being loved and seeing this absolute beast try to contain himself while seeing it is really heartwarming
He was pretty ambitious and wanted to talk over the world even before being enslaved by ares
@@kaiyihuang4045 but thats because of what happend to Deimos besides all spartans are ambitious bastards.
@@wkkqewqaver7766 nah not all
Kratos used to be a gigantic piece of shit. That's the tragedy of his character in GoW1, the fact that Ares barely tricked him, just gave him the slightest nudge. Dude was a rage fuelled monster, you think he was secretly a soft fuzzy gentle dad who got tricked by big bad Ares?
He was used, but he was a monster before he was used, and continued to be a worse and worse monster until GoW4 when he does a hard 180 after GoW3.
Favours over favours only the gods not doing their end of the bargain which made him snap and murdered every single one of them. Well, except for Artemis. I wonder if she still hunts
That’s it, that’s the end of kratos’ story. They couldn’t have done it any better. Atreus taking the reigns is the only sensible option forward, imo.
Maybe but I'm not sure how interested people are in not playing as kratos anymore. I like playing as his son in this game but only playing as him for the entire game? Idk man.
@@cole5953 Besides that it wouldn't really be "God of War" anymore would it? I think if they aged Atreus up into his 20's and gave him some more meaty attacks it'd be fun, but playing as Loki the god of mischief, in a franchise built around the god of war? The next game would have to be damn good at selling Atreus as a character that can stand on his own to get people to move on from Kratos.
nope we still have the Egyptian gods to go through
Nah, we still got some more mythology to go through.
@@Break0fdawn if would only work as prequels, that would fit to explain all the years between God of War 3 and God of War 2018. Atreus should carry the future of the franchise. This was a fitting end for Kratos.
Would make sense for Kratos to be the all father. In the norse myth, Mimir being a wisdom giving head was by Odin All-father.

Very correct, the allfather always loved mimir and asked him for his counsel
I have never seen anything move so many people to tears. What a tear jerker. Can't wait to play for myself.
What a journey it has been for Kratos… from tragedy to redemption.
And if anyone deserves to be at peace, it’s Kratos. From a Spartan Warrior, to being a just pawn, a weapon to be used by the gods, tricked in to killing his family and forever to be cursed by that burden, ascending to godhood becoming the God of War, betrayed by Olympus and his father, becoming a rage filled monster who eventually brings Olympus and entire Greece to the ground. And even moving to a new homeland, he’s still dragged in to war by the local gods, forcing Kratos to become the monster he wanted to leave behind. Finally, after Ragnarök and the fall of the Aesir and Asgard, Kratos can finally let go of his past, and live peacefully
The part where Kratos found out Faye always knew he come out ont top was hands down incredible.
When everyone doubted her. Kratos didn't.
This games take on “fate is not determined” is amazing where technically everything fated to happen does happen but there’s still alternative fates that could’ve happened it’s honestly such a twist on the trope
My absolute favorite part of this is the musical key indicating whats going on. The greek/roman choir/chants are usually associated with kratos's wrathful past and his deeds as the god of war. But here at 7:35 , they are used to evoke feelings of the future, somber and peaceful. They choir is not wrathful or mournful as it was before - but now in a different key it is somber, hopeful. All coming together with the crescendo of the strings over the brass instruments to represent Kratos's evolution and growth from a god of war to a god of hope/peace
That hug from Atreus had me bawling. Holy crap what an incredible story.
I thought that last panel implied Greece had come back along with him being a God of Peace, and that’s why he was crying.
This game is peak linear storytelling. They did a AMAZING job at striking the delicate balence between heart pounding action and heartfealt interactions between characters as well as maturing and pushing all characters forward. This game has multiple tear jerkers and i love it for that. Those moments feel earned and the excelent writing really builds up to those moments so when they hit, they hit harder than Kratos's fists into enemies heads. This game is an instant classic right alongside its predecessor.
I LOVE how the original Kratos soundtrack becomes triumphant 7:12
I love that when Kratos noticed Freya approaching with Mimir, he didn't try to hide that he was crying. They were really shocked but it means he trusts them enough to let them see him like that.

This whole scene was impossible to handle emotionally. The phainomenal and fitting soundtrack, Kratos's words and his hug with Atreus for a goodbye and Kratos crying after seeing the shrine, especially after having seen what he's been through in his entire life, made me cry through ths whole scene like a baby. I didn't even play the game (because I'm still on the ps3 but I have been an og gow fan since forever) and still it is now my favourite video game of all time.
In the end faye saw everything. Setting the wheels of fate in motion for kratos to get what he wanted, what he was promised but not kept. He lost his wife and daughter, his brother, then mother....she saw his pain and rage. She took him in after the fall of greece cause she grew to love him, giving him the thing the gods of Olympus kept promising. A second chance to love and be free of his torment, faye took that to her resting place. To see this happen to kratos is something we were all waiting for. He finally gets peace and has a chance to fix the world and protect those who cant. It is genuine emotion of joy and happiness that he can now live his life finally free, proud of his son and proud of the man atreus or loki has become. There shouldn't be another game at this point now, kratos story is over. But loki's story? Its just beginning and can be its own beast if they really want to continue.
"All is said, all is done".
I LOVE this game out of all the previous ones. We finally see Kratos show his feelings and emotions. The ending just made me cry as they hugged

I love how Kratos cried while hugging Atreus but still stood tall. Shows he is a man.
That moment absolutely wrecked me. The sad but proud face he made when hugging Atreus was something I thought I’d never see in a god of war game.
Oh my God, just seeing Kratos as a God that was loved and cherished… even he couldn’t believe it, but knew it was so…. ugh, so fucking… PERFECT.
Honestly it's such a nice addition having this be the end of the main story (other than Brok's funeral) because it's another throwback to the first game, opening one last shrine as father and son
Kratos, From Spartan to a God, from a God to a Destroyer, has finally found a new path that will at last rid him of the hardships he went through, From the death of his Wife and daughter to the death of his mother and Brother, from the many roads of bloodshed to the mountains of corpses both man, monster and even god, His life of Rage, Anger, sadness, Heartache, Vengeance and Suffering will now be put to an end. Kratos still holds his title as a god of war, but with his new path he will be a God that he never expected to become, the God of Peace, a Role that Unites All instead of Destroying all. One thing I just realized, the last panel with kratos being depicted as a benevolent God. It's painted with yellow, signifying that it was Faye who painted it, showing that she always believed in him.
My guess is, after Ragnarok, when kratos has his own kingdom, other gods from different pantheons will get word that the asier are gone, and try to take the land for their own. Most likely not as all pantheons will surely know who kratos is after this, and they'll stay far away, but it's a fun idea.
He destroyed an entire divine ecosystem, then usurped another. I'm sure there aren't many pantheons willing to challenge him. Although, it's an interesting idea to have divine emissaries show up to see what he's about

Or Atreus takes the mantle. Story-wise that would be the best option. Kratos reverting back to his own ways and going on a pantheon(s) killing frenzy would literally give no meaning to the Norse saga. It might be hard for us fans, but Kratos deserves his retirement as the god of war, and his pursuit of his new purpose as the god of peace. The song at the end is called “Let Go” for a reason.
After all of the suffering he has endured throughout the series, it was nice to see Kratos finally earn some happiness and peace here.
Brilliant character development.
As a near life long Fromsoft fan, and being immensely satisfied with the release of Elden Ring given the time and dedication put into it despite its delays...
God of War Ragnarok is a damn near perfect game
Like asura's wrath my wrath is finally gone
Its poetic how well Kratos's weapons are suited for the role. Odin had a spear he hid, used for surprise attacks and curses. Kratos has the blades that represent the price war exacts on people, how it haunts them and controls them, it admonishes against the mistakes of the past. He has the axe, a weapon that doubles as a practical tool, used to honor peace and family ties, it honors the hope of building a better future. He has a ring that represent the bonds a general has with his comrades, which becomes a spear to honor his homeland, and reminds a warrior of the discipline, honor and forethought that must guide their actions. A god of peace that knows the horrors of war, is willing to fight for what he believes in and is not willing to lose their heart in the process.
On the other side, Odin is the conqueror who takes what he wants, talking about the glory of Asgard, yet caring nothing about the people inside it.
Truly magnificent. What a character development.

Alot of fathers whove gone through alot do that, my father did because he was part of a civil war in his country of el Salvador he did things that he wouldn't forget. Kill to survive and protect himself and on the street to prevent being killed he'd use another dead bodies blood and brains to make himself look. He suffered so much and hes battle hardened ive rarely seen him cry
Playing this game i always think back on when i first booted god of war 3 and first saw the centaur "animation". It honeslty stuck with me for a every part what Kratos was all about.
The sheer animalistic rage, the fact that he didn't get the quickest, but the most brutal way.
What we saw wasn't a quest for revenge, it was a cry out of anger and pain, a destructive cycle where he could only see himself either destroyed or destroying, because it was what he deserved, for Deimos, for his family, and for every "centaur" along the way.
To me this scene instantly brought it back, every single "mash O to brutaly beat that opponent to a pulp", and i think it did for Kratos too.
To me he doesn't cry just out of happiness, but because he never saw himself as deserving of forgivness for anything he did, and so never of a good future outside of his son's.
And in seeing his fate on the mural, he realises that saving Atreus, loving Faye and saving the realm from Odin already made him worthy of attonement, he cries out 5 games (and psp) worth of relief.
It no longer ends with him destroyed or destroying, it ends with him building and protecting.
One is prophecy for Atreus, and other one is prophecy for Kratos. Kratos not only find his Peace, but also his home.
A real man who knowns the violence of war, are the ones that seek peace of all else.
I see a DLC with this ending
Naw it doesn't need DLC when it's already a masterpiece with this ending. Santa Monica studios did great writing to conclude. But tiny gear content or mini games will be awesome like in GOW4.
@@Kemite_Gaming boss raids could be cool
@@Kemite_Gaming there is still alot of unanswered question
@Fish Giovaana Like a certain Thunder God on the last panel of the mural...⚡️😈⚡️
Kratos is the definition of "Monsters flee when a good man goes to War."
Lifetime of suffering and sorrow and it goes away because one good woman had faith in him and loved him from core. Faye truly loved Kratos from the depth of her heart and she died believing in him for his good. That mixed up with Kratos’ emotions that he will be worshipped because he trusted Faye too brought him to tears. Then he tells Freya and Mimir that he will tread this path that Freya laid for him for his peace. He has faith in her and it shall prove true. What a masterpiece!!! ❤❤❤❤
Broo c'mon the game came out like 5 seconds ago
in one of the trailer, odin asked if kratos knows what it feels like to be a god that is loved. yes, yes he does. The way I see it, the people worshiping kratos are us. The GoW community
It’s clear Odin never played ghost of Sparta before plenty people worshipped him in that game
Plenty of people loved him already in Greece.
I´m a big God of War Fan and i played every Game. Now to see this made me so emotional i can´t even explain it because it´s just too beautiful, after all those years Kratos got what he seeked for and that´s peace.
It's so strange too see Kratos smiling and looking so old. The past 2 games have been a cinematic masterpiece.
So does this mean he becomes an All father ?
I believe it does.
I'm glad Kratos got what he wanted.
Never has anyone deserved something more. Kratos worked so hard to better himself, and allowed the right people to help him. From someone who's killed his own family, slaughtered an entire pantheon and tried to kill himself twice, who wouldn't cry after seeing themselves become a god of peace.
Worshiped not for power.
Now Worshiped for guidance.
Reminds me of Alucard from Castlevania(Netflix) where he have to stay focus after his mother died and have no time to grieve
After the mission is done he and Kratos are both have a chance to let it out in the end
i feel like god of war isnt done we have seen kratos fate yes but we havent seen him fully achieve it yet so i think we are going to get more games of kratos working his way to his god hood
we can now call Kratos many beautiful names, God of peace
all father
and most importantly
*_the rebuilder_*
War is not only bloodshed and violence. War is also the need to know who to protect, when to end one’s enemies and when to fight.
Kratos, The All-Father, became the True God of War.
You just spoiled everything bro what the hell.
This was a good story. Clearly the next games will be more focused on Atreus. Hopefully he gets better weapons than a bow and transformations.
He became the leader that his father could never hope to be. The whole teams behind these games should be very proud of themselves. God of War has truly become one of the best games of all times.
You have to have suffered to truly understand love and peace. I've learned that the hard way. So has Kratos. I'm glad he's finally finding his peace. Now I understand why I've been drawn to Kratos for so long.
Does anyone know who is standing behind kratos in the mural I've heard a lot of people say it's supposed to be thor but I'm not sure myself
A giant, could be a reference to next story, atreus went looking for giants right?
I don’t think it’s Thor, we see on the mural earlier how Thor is depicted in the art form. So I don’t really know who it could be.
Maybe Zues??
I think is probably a troll or a giant, I think there's also dark elves in there.
Giant.
Considering Aterus will ressurect them.
And they were kinda intregral to reaching this new good worldstate.
