After being married for 20 years and getting divorced now, I can say I’ve tried it all and nothing seemed to work. What I discovered is there was lack of true love for self and for one another on both sides. I believe that true love will challenge you to be willing to heal and work on yourself for yourself and for your partner. Also past traumas, narcissism and lack of compatibility was a big issue. Both need to have at least the mindset of self growth and improvement.
This is my exact situation also married for 22yrs and separated 3yrs. My other issue is I was too young when I married and I knew nothing about myself......I am now truly learning myself and it's so liberating 😁

if one partner is goodlooking or even if not, but is super into vanity and the other isn't , it actually is a huge road block. the one who doesnt care about it then has to add value in some other respect that the vain partner lacks. when this doesnt happen , relationships fail.
Similar. By too young, I was in my first real relationship that ended up in marriage. Legally separated for the last 3 years, about to hit 50 and only just now making serious inroads on working on the self. Mostly from guidance with the new woman in a lot of ways. I'm lucky to have her.

@@NoCentss I was disappointed because the title of the video was "...Amazing Sex" and during the 2 hour interview they only touched on that subject briefly at the 1 hour and 45 minute mark. The title was deceptive.
@Mark Fitting That's understandable! I noticed it as well. We must remember that these creators have to create ways to catch the viewer's attention. Though they didn't speak on it til later in the interview there were still a lot of great points that were hit leading up to it.
I'm realizing there needs to be 2 different lists of "success - this way", one for rich people and one for poor people. The risks are completely different and the bottom line is completely different, between the two.
Does failing mean disappointing your investors, or losing your house? I think there's totally different criteria across the two, and that part never seems to be addressed. I love this channel, I just dont like this interviewee, and it's outlining a greater issue for me, about the differences of what matters, when you have a big financial buffer, vs paycheck to paycheck.
To the point of choosing to stay celibate while dating. My boyfriend and I did this for the 1st 6 months of our relationship, and not for religious reasons either. Although we met in our early 20's, we are at a stage where "situationship" just wasn't going to cut it. This has allowed us to form such a deep bond that, 18+ years later, he is still my beautiful flower.

Indeed. My husband is in my eyes the handsomest man alive. But when we met and dated, we kind of forgot about the physical attraction because we had so much fun talking, dancing and enjoying each other’s company. That for me was the sign that he was the person I always dreamed of. After so many years he still is. And yes, we have an exceptionally unique, interesting and fun intimate connection. Love exists.
I’ve started dating again and we enjoy each others company and haven’t focused on physical but there is physical there but really into each other and it’s not because sex.

I agree distance does make a difference, my husband worked out of town for years, we talked everyday and when he would come home on weekends, we were like honeymooners. We’ve been married 24 years. I’m so glad that it’s no longer the case, he works local since about 3 years now, I can’t imagine him leaving for work like before. We sacrificed money for quality time, best decision ever.❤

But… when two people get married and have children it’s a different. ball game.
Anyone who is married and one of the spouses is having a “ free will” moment they need to grow up! It’s not about just them any longer! Which was their choice to have children.
Unless there is abuse mentally or physically going on in the relationship, playing the me, me, me and my feelings is selfish ! I am not saying being married and having children means you shouldn’t have time to yourself and you and your spouse but if somewhere takes the me, me, me to the extent they leave the marriage and the family, they are immature and they are selfish .
Children don’t ask to be brought into this world!
They deserve both their parents to do everything in their power to grow up and working out!
The people can’t be made to bend etc.. No sometimes people do need to be forced to look at themselves and make them realize this isn’t just about them.

They have certain obligations and responsibilities that they chose to take on.
They don’t get to cop
out because of their “ free will” and their feelings!

When you discussed your dark side, and lack of connection to it, this reminded me of something a dog trainer once told me. "Bite training isn't about training a dog to attack. A dog instinctively knows how to attack, and will attack when it feels threatened. Bite training is about training a dog to attack, and to stand down on command. Once you've done this you can control when it attacks, or not."
Once we understand, and become comfortable with our dark side, we're somewhat more capable of wielding it (or not) with intention. Without that understanding our dark side will express itself instinctively, and uncontrollably when we're provoked, whether intentional or not

@Mister Bo I totally agree about one's dark side. To add to what you have said, We're able to measure what others aim at us, and, what we respond with, instead of angered reaction. I feel far more secure in my knowledge of myself since I have met my dark side, and more importantly, I can recognise it when circumstances trigger it, and I can do something to change the outcome, before it gets too bad.
That’s a good way to put it and it makes me feel a little better that we all have that beast inside of us.

*I've been 100% totally voluntarily celebate for 10 years and counting, and feel absolutely amazing in my mid 40s!!! It's so much easier than you think. It's a total distraction that has instead been flipped upside-down & used for moulding myself into a much better, more lovable & more valuable human being!!!*
That combined with sexual transmutation (refraining from masturbation for a long period of time and re-channeling that energy into meditation) is one of the most underrated magic ability that most people will never try. Firstly, they think it’s too hard, or maybe they just don’t know about it. I got introduced to the idea of celibacy for spiritual mastery/growth after reading the legendary “Autobiography of a yogi”… and it’s been life transforming (this from someone who had already been on a spiritual path for years). I achieved more spiritual growth and transformation in two months than I had in the previous 12 years. The biggest lie that almost everyone believes in is that they need a partner, and that they need sex. The latter in my opinion should be like a rare thing you indulge in every once in a while, if at all. There is so much more to this earthly experience than we’ve been led to believe

I had teary eyes when he told about his seven days and the way he dealt with negative comments and distorted words. I experienced this as well when my dad got wrongfully arrested and everybody having an opinion about it in the media. I had to learn to always be true to myself. It broadened my perspective and I also found compassion for the opinions of others. It took me a while. Stephen, this is the first time I’ve seen you and you have a new subscriber!

Two of my favourite people right now. I listen to both their podcasts and I can't get enough. You both inspire me.
In my opinion, this is probably the best and most important conversation/podcast/video I've seen in the last decade. And I watch a lot of similar content. But this one I can watch over and over and grab deeper meaning. It's almost a meditative conversation that really makes you think about your own life experience and value in the world or even in your little part of the world and how other people perceive you and don't understand you. Jay hit on one universal concept early on which was that people just don't want you to succeed. It's threatening because it makes you evaluate your own successes and failures. Another concept that doesn't get enough attention is that we are living with expired ideas. And those ideas needs to get thrown out. Our thinking processes need an updated OS and to delete apps that are outdated. There's so much here but that's just one thought. Thank you guys for this gem! Cheers!

I resonated with every little bit that Jay said and it comes from a deep place of wisdom and self knowing

What a gem of an exchange! Men receive so much hate and pressure (some earned, some not) but men like these 2 restore faith in what a person can become by working on themselves. The calmness and skills of the interviewer and the honesty of it all is refreshing. Our society certainly needs more men like you two.

Great interview. I should have pursued purpose before relationship. I sat sidelined supporting his dreams/aspirations thinking that's what I was supposed to do. While taking time to heal, I found my purpose. In finding purpose my heart is filled with joy. Singleness has given me freedom to find purpose and pursue dreams finding a way to serve others fills my heart with life that was missing me during our marriage. In putting relationship first, my heart was empty, though I loved him as he was. I lost myself and became a shell. I thought the breakup was the worst day. It's the day God stepped in and gave me life.

The time spent as a monk. His reflections on life. Things. Other people. His insights. I would like to spend a week, day and night, meditating and listening, asking hundreds of questions. Be a better me. And learn from Jay. I am so sure I would.

Relationships is just that relational .. a joint effort to connect, communicate, develop & grow. The values & needs of both involved has to be considered. I have learned in my 17 year union that the most important question to ask self than the other is “what do you want?” … Also the idea of expanding the connection of the relationship in a non sexual way rather through experimenting, learning new exposures, and serving together sounds so powerful. This was a great conversation …

a lot of this conversation really strikes a chord, but the idea of doing the hard work on your self before knowing true self worth really choked me up with how hard it hit.
His take on celibacy in relationships is so interesting! I have also thought a lot about those kinds of studies, I don’t agree with waiting until marriage, but I do think statistically you’re better to wait as long as you can (plus as a woman you can weed out all the men only interested in ons).

God in the Holy Bible states to wait until marriage. There is good reasoning - no promiscuity, no sexual jealously, no diseases, no unwanted pregnancy. God knows best, not us flawed humans.

I am Christian, not Hindu, but Jay's commitment to true compassion and love, to self- reflection and humility are hallmarks of Christianity , yet so many of us side step the work those values demand. I love the hierarchy of time spent with your loved one(s).
We are encouraging a deeper mission mindset in our church members. The concept of serving (others) together as a way toward deeper vulnerability and relationship with each other is exactly what we are trying to express.

So mind opening Jay Shetty is. Interesting his idea on distance,..make it conscious & keep communicating. He is great on how to connect, not how to give up.
I loved Jay’s work for years, but I lost a lot of respect for him after being let down by his book, which was essentially a 300 page sales pitch to get you to buy a course at the end of it. I felt as though he became too much of a salesman and moved away from his desire to “serve.”
He’s an amazing communicator and I’m glad to see little glimpses of him moving back towards what he was.
Good conversation with some genuinely good advice in there. 👏
