  • Today we take a look at the Amazing Spiderman movies!~ This was a surprisingly controversial spiderman that people either tolerated or hated. Personally, I thought he was fine, but a little weird and bizarre. Hope you guys enjoyed No Way Home

    Tbh spiderman in the very first comics started out a massive asshole for a few issues before Ben dies and he reevaluates his life, so this version does follow that idea of having peter being irresponsible for quite a while rather than quickly having to change.

    • @Lunacorva
      @Lunacorva 2 роки тому +4

      I think the issue is that he continues being an asshole even after Ben's death, which feels like it undervalues the moment that is meant to be THE turning point. The moment when he changes from selfish asshole, to a man who wants to prevent further tragedy.

    • @Jirodyne
      @Jirodyne 2 роки тому +7

      @@Lunacorva It's also the Issue that Peter is NOT Responcible for his uncle's Death. The robber tripped and dropped the gun. And Ben REALISTICALLY, would have backed away and not jumped for it like a fucking idiot! Ben killed HIMSELF. It's the same bullshit that's in Man of Steel, where in original superman lore his father dies of Cancer, a disease, something that even with all of Superman god's like power, he can't stop to save his father. But in Man of Steel, his father, for literally no reason, commits suicide because he wanted Superman to keep hidden and NEVER reveal himself to the world, aka to NEVER be a Hero and save others.
      Both situations, the father and uncle kill themselves. The hero has NOTHING to do with it, and has no Responcibility. With for Superman was just upsetting, but for Spiderman was a down right fucking plothole and rage inducing. It's the core tenet of EVERY version of Spiderman, EVERY copy, Comic Book, Video Game, Spin Offs, Movies. Cartoons. ALL of them, have Peter's actions lead to his uncle's death. But in these movies, his actions did NOT lead to uncle's death.
      Topped with all the other bullshit stuff that happens, and his complete assholeness, and never following good morals. I hate this incarnation of Spider Man over every other version I have ever seen. Even the original old school first ever cartoon Spider Man is a BETTER person than this little shit head.

      @@almas4663 "If you can help people, you have a moral obligation to do those things!"
      If he did nothing and the Robber got away, no one would have been hurt. Sure, money would have been stolen, but no one would have lost their lives.
      His action endangered not just his OWN Life, which we see he lost, but by struggling with the gun, could have killed the Robber, or even a nearby innocent civilian.
      What Ben did was wrong. But also doesn't account for the underline issue. Namely, Ben made his own choice, and got himself killed. Peter had NOTHING to do with his Death, with is a Core Issue of the character 'Spider-man'.
      It would be like having Superman, be someone who wasn't Clark Kent, and wasn't from Krypton, and was just a normal, every day human.
      It changes the character so much, that aren't even that character anymore. And that's what happened here. They created a Plothole. For Spider-man to be who he is as a character, he has to be responsible for "Someone's" Death. For Spiderman, it's his Uncle. For Miles in the Spiderverse Movie it's his Evil Uncle. For Spider-Gwen, it's the Death of her best friend peter parker.
      The key point being, that their inaction/action caused the Death of something they loved very much, which motivates them to never let anyone else experience what they had, and become a superhero.

      If Peter would've stopped the robber in the first place - none of it would've happened.

    Andrew is so underrated honestly. His Spider-Man is quick, witty, and entertaining. He has the best combat with his acrobatic focused fighting style as opposed to Toby throwing hands and Tom being reliant on gadgets or gimmicks. His Peter Parker is also great with his nerdy ness and teen angst coming through beautifully. He does some legally and morally…questionable acts, yet the imperfection in his character is so well done. Just my two cents.

    Spiderman was written as a hero teens could relate to but the in-canon Spiderman eventually became an adult that formerly teen fans could also continue to love. The MCU just wants to keep reaping in the new fans... so totally Disney of them, like new fans will stay after they (once they become older fans) also start getting the middle finger to them.

    My girlfriend hated AG Spider-Man but the moment in No Way Home where he awkwardly apologised to Max because he wasn’t black made her full on giggle-snort so maybe AG was held back by the writing and tone of his series more than anything else.
    He’s certainly warmer in NWH, expressing fondness for the other characters and acting genuinely heroic for the entire time he’s on screen - emphatically agreeing with Peters 1 & 2 about curing the villains rather than killing them, I’d say Peters 1-3 probably all end that movie on lawful good

    I hated the first Amazing movie with a passion to the point where I turned it off one-hour into it. Never saw the second film.
    I saw NWH this weekend. Andrew Garfield is without a doubt one of the best parts of the entire movie. The dude's acting is above almost everybody else's with MAYBE the exception of Dafoe (and holy shit, somebody got the memo that Willem Dafoe is 1000x more terrifying with the mask off - I'm saying no more on that).
    Garfield deserved better during his run. The writing and directing did him dirty. Now personally, I thought he would had been a better Harry than Peter; but at this point I just want to see the guy get some other major long-lasting role in a series somewhere that I have an interest in. Unfortunately my only experience with him right now is NWH, the first-half of Amazing Spider-Man, and... the Daleks in Manhattan two-parter from Doctor Who (and holy shit again, thank God his American accents have vastly improved since then... oof).

      I say give TASM a second chance. I think if you calibrate your expectations around the idea this is a younger, more more morally grey Spider-Man that more actively struggles with “Great Power comes Great Responsibility.” rather than being shocked into it, I think you’ll like it far more.
      Also, if you want more Andrew Garfield, go to Netflix and watch “tick, tick…BOOM!” unless you absolutely despise musicals, because otherwise it’s a masterful film. Garfield delivers an EVEN BETTER performance in that movie than in NWH, it’s crazy.

    Andrew's version of Peter has always, unquestionably, been my favorite. I grew up watching Tobey, but in all honesty, I enjoyed the darker take on Spider-Man's story. Andrew also managed to perform obviously chaotic evil acts without being overly-cringey about it, like Tobey did in Spider-Raimi 3. And despite what people think, I believe Andrew plays a perfect *nerd* Peter. He just doesn't go over the top like Tobey's version did.

  • @linkholder

    Hey, can someone explain to me how revenge is a Chaotic Evil aligned action? I would have put the "looking for a family member's killer for revenge as a Chaotic Neutral or even True Neutral act because it is a reasonable first reaction. Peter isn't doing it for some sadistic pleasure, but for closure and what he views as an act of justice.

    • @MotleyNerd
      @MotleyNerd 2 роки тому

      Revenge doesn't care who gets hurt in the process. It's personal and often sadistic. More often that not, someone looking for revenge is willing to go to any lengths to achieve it. And in the end, it consumes the person seeking it with anger, causing them to lash out at, well, anyone and everyone. It does not listen to reason. It always ends in pain and death. Those who seek revenge often cause the pain or death of those they love, if not themselves, as the anger blinds them. It's questionable as to whether or not they'll even succeed in getting revenge, as well. And if they do, well, it's not a proper resolution being sought. It's death to satiate bloodlust. It's murder.
      Revenge only hurts people, and the person it hurts the most is the one who seeks it.
      He who seeks revenge digs two graves.

    • @grammaticalrouge29
      @grammaticalrouge29 2 роки тому +1

      Very personal take on why:
      If you admit revenge is _kind_ of a "right"... then you cannot talk down those you have wronged when they demand to have theirs, and any person who has ever do truly heinious acts is owe a punishment; and since it would be *really* hard to go through life without ever commiting actions which would require punishment under this "revenge is okay" policy... most people would agree revenge = bad.

      Honestly I don’t vibe with it either. Sure, Peter isn’t seeking Ben’s killer for any noble reason, but it’s not like he has made any absolute commitment to murder the guy in cold blood, and he’s at least stopping some legitimate crime on the way. Peter at this point is an angry, grieving kid, not a committed killer.

    Also felt like the most underrated moment was in 2 after Gwen’s death. Where flash approached Peter, Peter lashing out, and Flash saying he gets Peter’s feelings. IDK I felt like that could of been a start to friendship there. The once bully now wanting to help and say he gets the feeling. Might have lead to something later on but oh well.

Sure, he starts using his powers for personal gain and revenge but so did Tobey's spidey. The only difference is Andrew took longer to find the person who killed Ben. He doesn't become Spider-Man until the bridge scene where he finally realises what Ben meant.
    But amazing Spider-Man 2 is the absolute worst movie ever. It had so much going in, it should of been split into 2 movies, it tried to answer questions no one was asking AND THE IDEA TO BASICALLY MAKE PETER 'THE CHOSEN ONE' SPITS IN THE FACE OF WHAT THE SPIDER-MAN IDENTITY STANDS FOR!!!

    I think Tobey was a better Parker than he was spidey, and Garfield was a better spidey. But Tom Holland is the total package.
    Also Curt Conners is neutral good. While Conners does have a personal stake in repairing people's bodies, that does not detract from the noble intent of his research. Lizard's entire plan is to force a mutation on the entirety of society, which is lawful evil.

      I got disagree that belongs to Toby and Tom in my opinion. I just love when a older wiser Spider-Man gets to act as an older brother to a younger Spider-Man. Toby is the perfect Peter and Spider-Man as he honestly found a balance between Peter and Spider-Man that Andrew completely misses in his first movies and Tom is still trying to find which makes sense with him as Tom is still a kid who had support for a decent amount of time as is run as Spider-Man but he's now back to square one all alone with no one in his corner now.

      @@zachbahamutson5477 I meant best arc, I prefer Tom Holland actually, as I feel the things that were complained about were fixed, and he just did things I felt were amazing for his character, Tom Holland however, is only just starting his arc, as I feel that he made a choice, but we haven't seen him burden the full weight of his actions, not yet, he might have a good start for an arc, but is only preparing to start. So like I know its entirely your video and my response is not ment to criticize you but rather bring up an interesting conversation.
    I feel as though a goof few of blpeters beginning actions that had been marked as evil could have been seen more as neutrals as they provoked by an event that would make him good and are only seen as evil due to slight enjoyment being felt. I mean just because someone enjoys the crack of someone else's face doesn't make them evil when they only target those who deserve it. Like in that scene with him toying with one of the men he believed to be who he was looking for when the cop arrived I'd say the way he was speaking was more akin to an impulsive kid still in grief. Him chastising the cop for his job sounds more like someone who has control of the situation but has yet to realize what that's suppose to feel like. Almost like a child who won an argument with there parent that they never imagined they'd win. Not knowing what to say next they stammer and speak on topics a little more outside of there control if that makes sense.
    Thoughts? anyone else?

    as far as I see it, Tobey makes the best Peter parker, since he is a awkward geek, while Andrew Garfield makes the best Spider-man, since he is a bit of a smack-talking, sassy trickster. That is what I have always loved about spider-man, ever since I was a child. He is an everyday nerd, but once he dons the suit, he becomes sassy, confident and talk smack back to pretty much anyone. I have unfortunately no opinion on the Tom Holland spider-man, since I dropped off the MCU train before rise of ultron (with the exceptions being venom and spider-man: into the spider-verse, but I don't think that those are part of the MCU). Just lost interest....

    I think Andrew's tried too hard to be serious, and it hurts the films in my opinion. They aren't terrible, and neither is his performance, but I do not like that he abandoned the promise to Captain Stacey to keep his daughter safe, which he made while the man was dying. Promises like that, especially to a character like Spider-man, are important.
