As a member of gen Z, who was born too late to appreciate it as it came out, it is so cool to see youtubers continue the Bionicle legacy and breakdown the extremely complex story
As someone who *did* grow up with them... I wish we could've had another generation to share with you. The loss of the franchise to poor design decisions for cost-cutting measures was a genuine tragedy.
Same man , l got into bionicle only around the time hero factory's final few years / was ending or ended . One of the things I love about Bionicle is how the story works basically as a lego set. It's not told directly to you in a series, instead, it is a collection of stories across different media that you have to assemble carefully to build a coherent narrative. Moreover, from those pieces of lore you can build any story you want, explore all the islands, their past, imagine the close and distant future of the universe, the political intricacies of Glatorians and Matoran sharing a world, imagination is the limit.
My most expansive lore project I've ever created started as me playing with Bionicles... Now it's filled with immortal beings, warriors that are near immortal, a time traveler who empowers these people to direct the future, histories of nations formed from the colonization of planets foreign to Earth, regions where the ground is so unstable, the land is constantly shifting, creating new caves, ravines and mountains in a matter of days. And of course, many elements taken directly from the Bionicle lore and modified to fit in my own work. But it all started with Tahu Nuva.
14:05 Officially, Roodaka is a member of the Brotherhood of Makuta (more specifically Viceroy of the Visorak Horde) who obtained some combat training from the Dark Hunters, but she was secretly a double agent selling info to both sides.
I’m currently writing a book in the bionicle universe set 9000 years after the canon end. There will be an element of dimensional fracture as the Toa find out they are in what is supposed to be the prime timeline but all their history indicates that they are in a different timeline. I’m honestly not sure where it will go, but I am excited.
@@SomeRandomKydd That sounds awesome! The grappling with reality and purpose would be really cool. Some could even realize that an Invasion of the Body Snatchers event has happened and several iterations of the characters are from different dimensions. But that's just a personal thought
@@petermurraystudios I’m not planning on having any canon characters appear, though probably all will be mentioned since I want one of the books to be the Toa Team going through the entire mythology while trying to figure out where the Kanohi masks could possibly be since a good number are fundamentally eternal.
I have to say the chill and calm versions of the bionicle songs you used in the video were a really good addition. Especially when it all builds up near the end and the kanohi ignika flies off into space.
I remember my friend introduced me to bionicle in first grade, we went to a small convention that hosted a competition where you had to make your own bionicle, we didn't win but we made fan theories that the first toa group were once one group that served under makuta but decided to leave and formed their own groups

The bronze and green one. I know where the parts are from (half the parts or less) -Nui Rama (green” -Nokama -Vakama -Lewa Nuva Got like 3 parts or less: -Kopaka Nuva -Tahu -Brutaka (This one hurts the most) And through used book stores I’ve acquired over half of the books. This is the coolest franchise of all time.
I came to this video, and I loved it. The intro was cool, and the content was great. Then I went to like it, and there was almost nobody. You deserve to be seen more.
Me and a group of my friends had a Bionicle TTRPG going a few years ago. It took place in a version of the universe where the Toa Mata's canisters never malfunctioned, so they arrived at the Island of Mata Nui early with their full memories and understanding of their mission, overwhelmed Teridax before he was ready, and saved Mata Nui, so Mata Nui was easily able to restore Spherus Magna and integrate the Matoran onto the restored planet and remains in orbit around the world. After getting rid of the remaining old brotherhood of Makuta, Mata Nui tried to start over with a new batch taking greater care that these new Makuta would not follow in the footsteps of the originals but the world was not ready to accept Makutas after Teridax's Coup d'etat, so several members of these new Makuta were killed based on prejudice and split between members who wanted revenge against, and ones who just wanted to be mostly left alone. Our Toa characters where the protectors of the New-Metru Nui. (My character) Whakatau the Toa of Plant-life: he used to be a Matoran ranger/emergency medic who lived out in the wilderness helping Matoran who get lost and injured out in the forest cause a Toa might not always be around. He had a chance encounter on a Dark Hunter operation gone wrong, which got two of his friend's killed and left a burn scar on half of his mask from a warehouse explosion! He made a vow that he would never let anyone die under his watch and would get justice against the Dark Hunters. He almost goes full dark Toa but comes back from it thanks to a good talking too. Playing a Toa of Plant-life was so much fun, he was a walking utility belt. He could collect plant samples along his adventure, breed them to emphasize certain traits and ended up having a plant for every situation but the Meme of the group was what I called "The Makuta's Piss Pepper" I heard somebody once describe being pepper sprayed like getting pissed on by the Devil, so I created a Super Hot Pepper that does Chemical Fire Damage! Vaphi the Toa of Sonics: He was our team's engineer and tinkerer. He was the fun toa of the group, he would make jokes, get involved in Whaka's plant experiments, built a lot of the team's equipment, and had this on-going mech suit project Vojakua Toa of Plasma: He pretended not to be a Toa of Plasma and claimed he was a Toa of Fire cause as a Matoran he saw a Toa of Plasma go rogue and became ashamed to share his element. He was usually quiet but he helped make weapons for the team and was a really good Sword Fighter Parkur the Toa of Iron: He was a Titan of a Toa who was really good at just doing a ton of damage but was very simple minded. He had trauma because of the Makuta wiping out most of the Iron Matoran and wanted to take revenge on the New Makuta, but after meeting one of them and learning they were persecuted for their predecessors faults he came to forgive him. Ingram the Toa of Air: The group Pilot, he owned a transport from his days as a Matoran merchant and outfited the vehicle with weapons but he had a complex where he felt like wasn't entirely cut out to be a Toa. And Glacius the Toa of Ice and Fire: Glacius was a Karzahnian Matoran. Karzahni saw that he and a Ta-matoran were close and decided to make them even closer by taking them apart putting them together as a horrible fused Matoran. Glacius was liberated from the island of Karzahni and after being released onto the world proceeded to kick a lot of ass! Instead of having normal weapons he carries two large shields acting as a defensive tank and then beating enemies over the head with a shield! He also has an amped up disk launcher which he saves as a Last Resort because it's basically the nuclear option!
I love this alternate history and how each character has such a different backstory. I always loved the Toa of Iron and was disappointed that so many of the fun variations never go mainstream promotion.
@petermurraystudios I also started writing a follow-up story to our RPG with the approval and input from my friends where Vezon shows up with his crazy dimension jumping shenanigans and sends our toa team to a world similar to the beginning of the main Canon contradicting our characters history where the Toa Mata's cannisters malfunctioned and they were lost at sea for some thousand years. So our Toa who were trained by the Turaga Mata show up right before them and have to mentor the difficult and confused Toa Mata while Teridax is trying to probe information from us and adjust his plans accordingly. I wonder just how far our toa will go...will they take the first chance to return to their own world or will they stick around to see how new history plays out.
