The easiest way I learned to get rid of the seeds is to get some cold water put it in a jar put the dragon fruit in the jar shake vigorously and then use a strainer and now you have a drink and you have your seeds. If you want you can press any chunks that are remaining through the screen and still enjoy the lovely taste.
Basically that's what I've done. Squash the flesh. Put it in a jar. Let it sit overnight. The free seeds are on the bottom. Those in the flesh can be separated. The flesh floats and can be poured or scoooed out. I added a 1/4 tablespoon spoon of vitamin C powder and drank it.🎉
I admire your dedication…I’m also a self taught horticulturalist(sorta) starting at the very bottom- I killed all my air plants, which is nearly impossible. Now I’ve gone from a small raised garden to apple, peach, blueberries, magnolia, living stones, etc. I just started the growing from seed journey after I found sprouted seeds in a Granny Smith! I did some research and that’s kinda rare, so I took it as a sign I needed more apple trees and these babies needed a mother! Hopefully I will have some luck, but your video definitely inspired me to keep trying even if I don’t!
Dragons are so fun to grow! They are really great indoor plants. But fun tip: They are tropical cacti and therefore out of my own growing experience can deal with a bit of wet soil pretty well. They are pretty nutrient hungry though. If you would like to try another pretty difficult plant to grow I can only warmly warmly recommend passion fruit or it's sweeter brother the granadilla, wich I prefer over regular passion fruit😊
With cacti you should probably feed them once every two weeks and in their growing season you should get cactus food. It has all the nutrients they need to grow
That was great 👍 I'm growing yellow dragon fruit. It's the sweetest one. I did a short video of the fruit a few weeks ago. I have 2 pots filled with mixed dragon fruit plants. I'm going to try and divide them. Must be about 50 in each 4 inch pot. I saved them from the trash at a garden center. Have a great day and happy planting 🌱🌿😊🤗

@growithjessie I'm really glad! I just watched your starfruit video too 😄 Love learning about plants by committing to grow something!! Thanks for the entertainment and new knowledge!
Another thing to keep in mind is that they don't like to be watered too much but they do like to be spritzed with water just not the soil in their natural environment water would condense in the early morning on them for a brief period of time
Girl you need a greenhouse with all these tropical plants you keep trying to grow. 😅 They make good potted plants though they need a really big pot to make fruit.
You are so cool! You're hilarious and talented, and I love your scientific approach and determination. I love watching people fall in love with something and delve deeply into it. Good luck with your baby dragons!
I love cacti apples! My old roommate had 3 of these cacti outside of her house so whenever they would blossom I'd have to fight the birds to get the fruit.
I saw a comment on another youtube channel and it said that “ it takes about five years for a dragon fruits to start producing fruits because the plant is not fully matured “
FUN FACT: If you are growing worms, you can compost most of their poop, then once you did, you can boost plants with the poop! You can also put the worms in then you get an infinite grow farm.
Super cool video! Since you’ve already been growing them for a year, if it will produce fruit in most other climates you would expect them next year, but since you are in Canada, I think in two years, you will get your dragon fruit, and the cycle of life will start again!
I’m growing yellow dragon fruit. They just spouted and are growing good. I live in South Georgia and the winter is not as harsh but can kill it but the summer are perfect for it.
Give them some copper and plant food weekly. I stay in pretty cold place and it’s growing well. They’re growing and during the winter I cover them up. I’m based in South Africa 🇿🇦
Dragonfruit may be a cacti but they originally come from south east Asia; their natural climate is actually very wet (I think almost like a tropical rainforest) so that could be why they kept dying
@@Wombatwrongbat I live in a desert, I’m always unsure if my dragonfruit needs more or less water because of where it comes from/the fact it’s a cacti 😂
Why did you not slice the dragon fruits in slices, maybe, than you could have grown more? My dad put a few thin slices on wet kitchen swipes an let them grow at first there. And than, when they started to grow, he put them in soil. He had many tiny dragon fruit plants. They grow a few cm ( maybe 10 cm) and what then happened, I don't know. This is more than ten years ago.
To deter mammals from eating your plant get cheap hot pepper powder or sauce. This is only good for mammals. If you feed birds you can use hot pepper powder since birds don't feel the heat.
These grow in sandy, rocky soil with good drainage. That soil is way too moist for any cactus. Their roots are very vulnerable to rot. At least half of the substrate should be mineral. Pumice, granite, perlite, lava rock, coarse sand (not fine sand! It will kill it), etc. The reason why so many of your seedlings died is because you used a soil that retains too much moisture and is too rich. Cactus seedlings are extremely vulnerable and need a proper growing medium. Older plants can deal with subpar soils, but the young ones not so much.
im currently looking to purchase a property and im going to build an outdoor, winterized greenhouse that houses all my tropical fruit plants so they can actually grow and fruit in canada in the winter - and to make sure the little squirrels stay away haha

The fruit itself acts as a time capsule for the seeds. To sprout them all at once you need to wash the seeds. Get all the goop off
