Since that was to hard for the west, Nintendo of Japan had no choice to used the Proto type of Doki Doki panic as the West Super Mario Bros.2, they had to twick it to hide the fact that it was officially doki doki panic so they change the lamp to the potion, slow down the waterfall(minimize epeleptic seizure) change the character face, into a 1-up mushroom change the heart container to a mushroom, and change the sub space to the original Super Mario bros. Theme, and change the starman to the original starman theme from Super Mario bros. Change the severed head to a shell, and change the carriable clown face into mushroom block, so it his not deceptive. Japan finially got the proto type of Doki Doki panic after Super Mario Bros.3 as a family computer Cartridge re-name Super Mario Bros. USA. The Western where suppose to receive Super Mario bros. the lost levels as a cartridge release for the NES after Super Mario bros.3 but since lost levels was never made into a cartridge by the time they would make it as a cartridge with the save battery inside, we would have got it already for Super Nintendo Super Mario All-stars. so they scrap the NES version of Super Mario bros. the lost levels again.

Seems like this game is basically the midpoint of Doki Doki Panic's Mariofication, since some things have been changed (e.g. the characters, some of the music), but other things are still DDP's (like the lamps and the lack of animation in most places). Kinda wish they woulda kept the underworld theme (makes it feel more true to Mario), but at least it showed up again in SMB3. Pretty nifty stuff here!
So no eye whites, Luigi’s feet don’t move so rapidly, faster water falls, lamp door, pre SMB3 under ground music, slight variation of the star music, plain slots, different ending. Still wish Nintendo would retire bowser and the mushroom kingdom for a newer adventure based on this Mario game. Or at least a 3D open world remake of this. Maybe watt escapes the dream world and takes over. The closest we got was the super Mario advance 4 (smb3 with added smb2 features)

The prototype themes are more different. 1. The underground theme sounds a bit the same like super mario bros. 3 2. The invincibility theme also sounds like super mario bros. 3 invincibility. More differences: 1. Mario's eyes do not have an eye white, in the full release of the sequel, he has eye white. 2: the bonus screen is different than the original, 3. The cherries are not moving, and many other items are not moving. 4. The water is moving more faster than the full release, I think. There are many differences to the prototype.
Oh yeah, and the end screen after the contributor or prize money screen, Doki Doki Panic: Scene where the twins are rescued and ma, pa, imajin and lina come out of the book and "the end" in Japanese comes on screen in the top right corner. After you set the correct side of the disk, you can play again. SMB2 prototype: A bland blue screen with "THE END" in the center. Press Start and you're back at the title screen. SMB2: There's a cast roll, and the scene is Mario in bed. After the cast roll, "The End" is being written in cursive at the top right. The game is soft locked when this happens.

Well some say that DDP was originally going to be a Mario game early in development. However, I doubt the prototype shown in this video is what they're referring to.

in the normal version of super mario bros 2 marios eyes are not looking like that in the prototype version so the driffrent things are the loud drums the other menu thing and marios eyes
This looks like a mid-way production of modifying from Doki Doki Panic to the final version of SMB2. The running feature was not added yet, which DDP doesn't have. Also, the subspace (magic space) "kettle," fast waterfalls that nearly give people epilepsy, and the "prize money" at the end are also from DDP. Also, I was playing this version on OpenEMU, and I found that some parts are laggy. Is this because of the ROM itself, like the performance issue from the ROM? Or just my computer?
@Famulator: I think that Frickzoid meant the prize Wining 500,000$ they remove that from both Doki Doki panic, and the West official Super Mario bros 2. to prevent false advertising, and also to prevent someone from actually believing that he win that amount as real cash by just beating the game.
@@mikefolknation2851 While SMB2 and the Japanese release of SMB3 were in the same month and year, I highly doubt that these assets are actually from SMB3. DDP started out as a Mario Prototype, so it could be very likely that these were the assets used then.

While the official released version of SMB2 is 257KB, this demo version is only 128KB,and while it is true that most objects and tile sets are not animated and the fact that is has no propper ending among other things,but it still blows my mind that it is only 128KB in size,but that’s a good thing because i can play it on GBA movie play via pocketnes, and i consider this demo version waaay better then the official released version because this version really feels more like a mario game,all because it contains the more kickass action pased underground tune😁😁🙏🙏👍

DDP started out as a Mario Prototype that explored vertical scrolling but was eventually shelved. They had to release a sequel so they just decided to re-skin SMB1 and add the levels from Super Mario Bros. VS. When they were making DDP, they decided to get that Mario Prototype again and rework it. When it came time to finally release a new Mario game in the west, they reinserted the Mario assets with some minor changes. Yeah, you have a lot of details wrong.
