This is a cover of a Jimi Hendrix song. Stevie was a HUGE fan of Jimi as am I. Jimi was before my time but I saw Stevie play live and it was life changing he was that amazing. Little Wing was recorded by Jimi with Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchel in about 20 min of studio time left. You are correct, in my opinion, and that of many, many others, SRV is #1 on a very long list of the best of all time on the guitar. There are lots of other contenders (check out blind Jeff Healy, he will blow your mind) but SRV is the best there ever was, or likely will ever be.
A blues guitar Masterclass. My fav SRV performance. Six variations on a theme. Love watching his hands. So supple and relaxed. Often you can see a lot of tension in a guitar players hands, expecially when playing fast. Lovely, lovely performance.
I recently had carpal tunnel surgery on both wrists from playing guitar and piano, and I haven't been able to play for the last two years because of it. SRV is my favorite guitarist and IMHO the greatest ever, I have played guitar professionally for almost 40 years, and on my best day when I can play several of his songs, I still am nowhere close to him.
Sixty-one been playing since six, I feel ya, in the same boat, don't gig any more but I force myself to woodshed least every week just to hold any of my guitars just one more time.

Britt, it's been a minute since you reacted to Stevie Ray's version of Hendrix' "Little Wing", but all I can say to you is 'it's Stevie Ray '!!! Whenever you, should I say if you dive into more of SRV and I think you will , you will understand why I just commented it's Stevie Ray. That's all one needs to say!!! Also I say thank you Stevie Ray Vaughan for gracing us with music inspiration ,memories and history as you did in your entirety too short life. I love this reaction! ❤❤ You described Stevie Ray like you had been listening to him for years. Your reaction is spot on awesome! I subscribed to you because of this video. I have been listening to Stevie Ray since I was very little. I was raised on his music and to me there is nobody and never will be like Stevie Ray Vaughan. ❤❤ Love it. My home state is also his. I am proud of that but I love the other state I live in. Lol-
Stevie was simply the best blues guitarist of his generation, and one of the best to ever pick up the instrument. The blues players before him (BB King, Buddy Guy, Buddy Guy, Albert King, Bo Diddley) considered Stevie to be one of the greats. He never played a song the same way twice if he could help it, and on a 12-bar blues scale, rarely repeated a musical phrase. When i need something to pick me up, i (and my neighbors) listen to Stevie Ray.
The most spot-on comment I ever read about reacting to Stevie Ray Vaughan went something like this... "My wife and I watched an SRV performance. Afterward she said, "Stevie Ray Vaughan makes my ovaries quiver." I thought that captured it perfectly! Since you've seen two songs from this 1983 show at the El Mocambo, you might want to check out mind-blowing performances from the 1989 Austin City Limits show. Stevie was clean and sober and looking great! My favorites from that show are Voodoo Child, Riviera Paradise (another instrumental), Cold Shot, Couldn't Stand the Weather, Crossfire, Tightrope, Look at Little Sister (smoothest guitar switchout ever when a string breaks), and Mary Had a Little Lamb (yes, it's the nursery rhyme and you should see what Stevie does with it for sure). By that time an amazing keyboard player (Reese Wynans) joined Double Trouble along with drummer, Chris Layton, and bassist, Tommy Shannon. Another great pick is the live performance of Tin Pan Alley at the Montreux Jazz Festival where Stevie plays with one of his idols, Johnny Copeland. I think you'd love his vocal delivery on that one! Thanks for the joy of your reactions!❤
Britt always has a good show. What is so refreshing, is how intently she listens; and seems to have a sincere passion for good music. Thanks from Tel Aviv, Israel !
Stevie Ray Vaughan- Life Without You- 9/ 21/ 85- Capitol Theatre, Passaic, NJ is very good also ( breaks a string, loses a tooth and has a very good message during the performance)
As a lifelong, and I'm old, SRV fan I must say that I really enjoy your reactions to "My music" It is nice to see a new generation relish in what is truly greatness, no matter when it happened. Just like when I was a young child, laying on shag carpet, with headphones plugged into a console stereo. My mother was the driving force, I had it all, from the Beatles, Barry Manilow, Dio, Led Zep, Frank Sinatra, Van Halen, Queen, Musicals (my fave is A Chorus Line), Rock operas, Jimmy Buffett, Waylon & Willie, I could go on and on. Bottom line, I, like others obviously, enjoy watching you enjoy the beauty of music - in all forms. Thank you Britt, you are a good one.
The reason he stepped towards the mic the first time was to play a wah wah (or Cry Baby) pedal. You control the timbra of the guitar signal creating a sound as if the guitar is crying. The stick thing is called a tremolo bar (or whammy bar) it tightens (pull back) or loosens (Push down) the strings.
Stevie Ray Vaughan has been an icon in the guitar spectrum for a good while and for a good reason. His gifted talent with the guitar was undeniable. May he rest in peace. We miss you Stevie Ray Vaughan
I mean this damn near moves me to tears. SRV evokes an emotion out of the guitar that really was legendary. Imagine doing Jimi Hendrix one up by not singing any lyrics and it's every bit as if not more "Little Wing" than the original. Sheeeesh.
Stevie definitely is communing in this song, and the alchemy in the mix of his musical soul and skill creates gold... a faultless interpretation of Jimi's music. I can't say that Jimi's "Little Wing" is anywhere near a favorite song of mine of those Jimi created, but to the respect SRV gives it, and the appreciation and tribute he gives Jimi's intense, innovating spirit, the result from Stevie's hands is superb. I love SRV to the heavens and back! ❤
I graduated highschool in 83. I started playing guitar when I was 16, was always a fan of Hendrix, never heard of SRV until the early 90s when I saw him on Austin City Limits. He's been my absolute FAVORITE bar NONE ever since! RIP SRV! This is a Jimmy Hendrix song, and SRV is IN THE ZONE!
Just a prodigy. Pours himself into his guitar, Stevie is always an amazing experience, much like Jimi Hendrix, who was one of his favorites. SRV also has one of the best stank faces ever. Much like Eric Clapton and Chris Stapleton, SRV wasn't really confident about his singing ability. But he KNEW he could make a guitar sing! The rhythm section in this song needs to be called out too - lays an excellent groove for him to work on top of.
To answer the carpal tunnel question, that's one of many injuries and things that don't get spoken about enough. Every instrument damages you. Wrecks your hands, fingers, forearms, shoulders, back, neck. Add in drums and you'll trash your knees too. Musicians are walking injuries. Sacrifice the body for the music. Very common.
Stevie did a great job on this Hendrix classic. Unfortunately both of these master guitarists are long gone. Stevie died just miles from where I lived in 1990, and it sent shock waves through the fans of SRV'S playing. RIP Stevie and Jimi!
Here are the lyrics Well, she's walking through the clouds With a circus mind that's running wild Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams And her fairy tales That's all she ever thinks about Riding with the wind When I'm sad, she comes to me With a thousand smiles, she gives to me free "It's alright", she says, "It's alright" Take anything you want from me, take anything Anything Fly on, little wing
Saw him play this and Third Stone from the Sun at Red Rocks. Third Stone was truly an out of the body experience. SRV played and then then the other musicians from that night-Bobby Blue Bland, Albert King, and BB King came out and played with him. Without question, the single best total show I have ever seen.
I remember the exact moment i heard of his death...where I was sitting, the feeling of such loss...I was soo lucky to see him on '83 with Robin Trower, where the SRV bug bit be hard. That followed with festivals in Detroit, Milwaukee, Berkeley and then in Berlin. I couldn't listen to his music for over a year after he died, and I still miss him.
Clapton and Harrison can make a guitar gently weep, Gilmour can make a guitar cry and wail. SRV makes that guitar scream like a passionate lover. RIP Stevie Ray. No one plays the blues like you did.
Stevie was a massive fan of Jimi Hendrix. He also was able to do a jam with Albert King. I grew up in Texas and would hear his guitar work on my radio. Him and Jimi made me want to learn guitar. Thankfully, I still have a ways to go with guitar skills, but getting anywhere close to Stevie would be an achievement. Congratulations on your Paetreon for recommending this!
Others have said Little Wing was composed and recorded by Hendrix. The song actually has lyrics which are short, simple and beautiful like a dream in many ways. However, many guitarist cover the song as an instrumental because it's such a great progression and groove to lay down a solo over, just improvise, drift off and be yourself. SVR's cover is likely the most impressive. 😉SVR, the music just flowed from him. Well, she's walking through the clouds With a circus mind that's running wild Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams And her fairy tales That's all she ever thinks about Riding with the wind When I'm sad, she comes to me With a thousand smiles, she gives to me free "It's alright", she says, "It's alright" Take anything you want from me, take anything Anything Fly on, little wing I'm sure many people would ponder what those lyrics even mean, Just to me is a state of mind as a man music is a mistress, beauty who's awe inspiring, loving and empowering - she's the zone.
5:30 SRV and Jimi Hendrix do not need words to articulate the emotion. Although Jimi wrote lyrics……. “Well, she's walking through the clouds With a circus mind that's running wild Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams And her fairy tales That's all she ever thinks about Riding with the wind When I'm sad, she comes to me With a thousand smiles, she gives to me free "It's alright", she says, "It's alright" Take anything you want from me, take anything Anything Fly on, little wing”
I saw SRV live several times in the 1980s. He was otherworldly. I've never heard Stevie compared to Prince, but I can accept that. They were both small/short men with eccentric dress styles and big sonic sounds. Both were guitar virtuosos who went "to another place" on stage, channeling the music through them from wherever it came. Astute observation from someone so obviously clueless about what she was watching, so I'm giving your review a thumbs up for pulling that rabbit outta the hat :)
SRV🔥 is the GOAT🐐 on the blues guitar! Incredible talent gone too soon.😢💔✌️

He is singing . From the very depth of his soul.
There are countless guitarists i admire, but only four leave me SPEECHLESS: Jimi Hendrix, Edward Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Stevie was one of the greatest. He played blues with BB King Among other great Blues Artists.
Even the greatest guitar players say SRV was the greatest.
Greatest thing ever come out Texas
Simply the best!
When you saw his eyes open and he smiled it always strikes me as if he is coming out of his out of body experience. The expression on his face!!
Steve is an exceptionally gifted guy. His music is mind changing. Gleaning pure inspiration from James Hendrix. And paying it back in kind
Stevie Ray Vaughn is my therapy, better than anyone, we will miss him but have his sound forever😊
Stevie was from another world
To answer the carpal tunnel question, that's one of many injuries and things that don't get spoken about enough.
Every instrument damages you. Wrecks your hands, fingers, forearms, shoulders, back, neck. Add in drums and you'll trash your knees too.
Musicians are walking injuries.
Sacrifice the body for the music.
Very common.
Stevie is everything you said he was and a bit more! He is definitely the instrument for sure!
He's rhythm and he is lead! He was the greatest Jimmy was the lnovator.l miss these musical geniuses,..!
SRV is one of the few celebs whose death made me cry ✌
He was in the throes of eternity. Give it before you are called away.
Stevie did a great job on this Hendrix classic. Unfortunately both of these master guitarists are long gone. Stevie died just miles from where I lived in 1990, and it sent shock waves through the fans of SRV'S playing. RIP Stevie and Jimi!
This song along with Riviera Paradise and Lenny are to be played at my funeral as the people are coming in and walking out of my service.
Here are the lyrics
Well, she's walking through the clouds
With a circus mind that's running wild
Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams
And her fairy tales
That's all she ever thinks about
Riding with the wind
When I'm sad, she comes to me
With a thousand smiles, she gives to me free
"It's alright", she says, "It's alright"
Take anything you want from me, take anything
Anything
Fly on, little wing
I love your face during the intro. This was always one of my favorite Jimi songs and Stevie somehow played it even better. It's incredible to me
Saw him play this and Third Stone from the Sun at Red Rocks. Third Stone was truly an out of the body experience. SRV played and then then the other musicians from that night-Bobby Blue Bland, Albert King, and BB King came out and played with him. Without question, the single best total show I have ever seen.
You have described Stevie PERFECTLY!!!!
The song will give you Goosebumps. 🤘✌️🇺🇸
1. SRV
2. Gary Moore
3. Hendrix
4. Alvin Lee
5. BB King

Roadhouse!!!!!!
THIS is one of my favorites, from Stevie. The other two being "Riviera Paradise" and "Lennie", a tribute to his wife.
SRV is the G O A T
Stevie was a massive fan of Jimi Hendrix. He also was able to do a jam with Albert King. I grew up in Texas and would hear his guitar work on my radio. Him and Jimi made me want to learn guitar. Thankfully, I still have a ways to go with guitar skills, but getting anywhere close to Stevie would be an achievement. Congratulations on your Paetreon for recommending this!
You nailed it. The music didn't come from his mind. He played straight from the soul.

I'm sure many people would ponder what those lyrics even mean, Just to me is a state of mind as a man music is a mistress, beauty who's awe inspiring, loving and empowering - she's the zone.
That’s just crazy. The guy is…….unbelievable. Truly. Wow

SRV and Jimi Hendrix do not need words to articulate the emotion.
Although Jimi wrote lyrics…….
“Well, she's walking through the clouds
With a circus mind that's running wild
Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams
And her fairy tales
That's all she ever thinks about
Riding with the wind
When I'm sad, she comes to me

THE GOAT!!! You are right about him not being a normal player, that mans hands are legendary.
