As someone with 50 years of woodworking experience, this is an awesome idea. especially since I am only a couple of months away from building my 1st PC. The "dust" issue can be eliminated by applying (suggest 2 coats minimum, with #0000 steel wool buffing between them) all exposed wood surfaces with a water based polyurethane. I have enough hardwood, cherry, ash, walnut, ipe, etc. to fashion my case with only the tempered glass as an expense. My idea [haven't drawn anything on my PC via AutoCAD yet] is to use the best features of the Lian Li Dynamic Evo and the Hyte y60. Glass front and side and the 45 offset piece like the Hyte. But, size it to accept the 10 fan arrangement of the Evo. with the dual chamber behind the motherboard for the power supply and cable management, leaving the bottom open for 3 120mm fans (intake). Side mounted 360mm CPU AIO (intake), 3 -120mm top intake fans (intake) and one 140mm or 2 120mm rear (exhaust) fan. With fan speeds I can manage the positive pressure where it is most effective. Helps having a mechanical engineering degree where I calculated air flow (CFM) for years in HVAC AND Exhaust systems. By saving $150 to $200 on a case, I can now go up on my CPU and GPU, even and extra $100 on each will move the needle towards a faster PC. This also gives me the idea of the beveled glass panel being a Sensor Panel screen, similar to this one ua-cam.com/video/gXkMSlN-unI/v-deo.htmlsi=sVByM9D9xoa483A3
I'll dovetail or design a finger joint (dovetail without the angles) for all exterior panel connections and probably use vertical stiles to separate the front, beveled, and side glass panels, using a mortise and tenon at each end. This will make a very strong case and a very unique looking one, especially using multiple wood species. I am several months away, but that just gives me time to design the case, verify airflow vs volume, and size the case to the need. I am not limited spacewise, to where it will live. So, if it gets an inch or 2 larger in any one direction than say the average mid tower, I am ok with that.
Wish me luck, I will report back once I get started.

I know this is an old video so this comment probably won't be seen by anyone, but as a quick tip - for much better building material for FREE or very cheap, go to your local car scrap yard. You can get Car panels (Bonnets, Boots, Doors etc) for either nothing or just a few quid (colour and condition don't matter, you're carving it to pieces anyway). Suddenly your posterboard / mdf designs are sheet metal. Again, you can pick up glass panels from doors, and various structural frame struts from the off-cuts of wrecked cars. Obviously this all means your home cutting equipment needs to be a little better quality, but what you save in one build pays for each tool ;) The same applies for decent source wood - go to charity shops and ask for the worst draws / cupboards they have they they cant sell - again, you'll get an excellent supply of decent wood for pennies - and again, ignore the design / colour etc - its the quality and amount of wood you're interested in. Acrylic / plastics is a little harder - but again the car scrap yard can be your friend - a lot of cars are made of plastic / fiber panels so asking for the more smashed up off cuts for free is usually fine by them. If the dealer starts to get crabby with you, just offer to build them a free PC case if they supply the materials - you get to Cherry Pick the best parts and you should have free supplies for years to come. Plus, if you're at the stage of building your own case, you almost certainly have shelves full of old PC components... you can easily build a spud PC into a flash case to over-impress them ;)

I see this as a more viable option for SFF builds. Smaller dimensions and less weight applied to the material should lead to better structural resistance, and using less powerful components generates less heat to be dealt with the smaller cooling solutions. Also, I would go for a horizontal mobo build for more stability and less gpu sag

Nice case and good job on build. Just so anyone following knows, and for information - not criticism. But the advantage of a metal case keeps FYI in/OUT of your computer build. So if anyone builds something like this (even an issue with some acrylics) you can cause interference to a nearby TV, or LED lights could potentially cause issues in the computer.
Just a little info that a mfg would have to go through to get certification. They would have to measure the RFI output to ensure there is no impact to other systems. I know this would go crazy in my house with my amateur radios once I keyed down. I used to blank out my neighbors TV on a certain channel (I was legal, TV was not - long story).
Adding metal or foil in the build could help reduce any issues, and help with bonding. And not everyone will have an issue.

The best way to build a high end from scratch custom case is very similar, you prototype it with bristol board the same way you built yours, test your fit, and airflow, and then order premium materials and sub out the cheap proto materials for the final pieces that are usually machined Aluminum and/or glass and acrylic which for laser cut can be expensive, but by the end you typically have a real nice custom case.
A lot of people I know use older cases as well for parts and materials, a versatile one is something like a Thermaltake P series case that is highly modular and gives you a brace for a vesa wall mount.

Hey man so I can I swap out the poster board for like. Foam core board? It's a little more expensive but I feel like it'll hold form for longer.

I find it very funny that the sponsor of this video is promoting a high end case which probably goes for over a $100 easily! while the whole point of this video is to build your very own clean pc case for under #20! Haha gotta love the irony! 😀

You built a case from 1/4 inch thick craft foam? That is not heavy enough for me to use. I plan on designing one and building it from aluminum sheets if I can find the measurements for the power supply mounting area.

While it looks okay, the foamboard will likely act as an insulator, similar to cardboard PC cases. Metal cases that conduct the heat away should perform better, though on the flip side they are likely to be more expensive and more difficult to mod. The acrylic panel blocking direct air flow to your front fans is a bit of a weird choice.

Perforation at the back could use some work, but all in all, it's very nice.
I want someday to make a case with integration of desk fan. Those things are silent, big, fast and effective to cool you, so they might be effective to cool a PC.
