@@LDreTheGiant please let us know your experience with those new closed back headphones. Perhaps you can make another video of such? Thanks for what you've shown us in this content!!!!
Great video LDre. I’ve heard really great things about Sennheiser. My husband loves & owns their 280 & 650 headphones. I upgraded from the BeyerDy 770 Pro 80ohm (closed back) to the Focal Clear MG Pro (open back) for producing & I like them A LOT for that purpose esp. when I can’t use my monitors bc they feel like I’m listening back on monitors but they are pricey 😬💰 Then I picked up the Neumann NDH30 (open back) a month later for mixing, again when I can’t use my monitors. Overall, I enjoy that headphone combo a lot because they balance each other out, although I like the detail on the Neumanns a bit more esp. the higher end…and they’re less expensive than the Focals 😅😭. But if what you have works for your ears, that’s great. Your beats & mixes are 🔥 already. Can’t wait to see what you try next.
Wouldn't spend that much on closed backs. 900 for Dan Clarc Audio AEON 2 Noire would be the maximum. But honestly something like the AKG K371 are just fine.
I suggest the ether cx in your situation, the 800 line is designed to yeah as you said, be like listening to speakers in a well managed room and they do things, they're intended for audiophiles and not people trying to master audio. The Ether cx is more along the line of a direct upgrade to the hd600's in sound quality while still being closed backs. Both are pretty intimate. Another option would be the LCD-X but those are open backs and the closed back version depends on the year, the newer the better and the older ones are considered kind of a disappointment. You can stick with the hd 600's I mean there is nothing wrong with the hd 600 family at all and I keep the 580's always around which is the grandfather of the 600 line. Nothing wrong with sticking what you know and are comfortable with even as a back up or when you need to hear something again on something you are very familiar with. Anyways IMO they're all good.
I just got a pair of these today. I like them so far, they're very comfortable for long periods of time. I'm currently just using them through a focusrite 2i2 (i havent found an amp/dac I'm interested in yet) and they do everything I need them to do. They are definitely very clear so far (able to pick up on the imperfections in recordings with them). I came from using a sennheiser HD 8dj headphone and these are a night and day difference clarity wise. I think the mistake people are making when reviewing these is comparing them to open back headphones (hd 800s). While its a similar headphone, open backs will always sound a bit more refined than closed backs.
Yeah that’s was my problem I loved them till I compared them but honestly due to the huge price difference it is still somewhat of a valid comparison for me at least.
@@LDreTheGiant fair point. Another thing I've noticed with the HD 820s is they are particular with music. Granted I'm mostly using compressed versions, but the way a song was mixed and mastered affects the sound quality they'll put out more than other headphones I've used. A lot of rock songs are pretty basic and don't sound great with the Hd820 ound stage, but music that is more instrumental sounds very good (orchestra, classical guitar).
Had a similar reaction to swapping out my new HD 660s2 for my 22 year old HD 590. New cans sounded great. Swapped them out for the real old cans and . . . 'what the XXXX???' Yeah. The trusty HD 590 sounded better to my ears. BUT. The HD 590 was EQd (on my FiiO BT7). The HD 660s2 cans came to life when I lowered the bass. The 660s2's claim to fame IS more bass while retaining sound detail. So if you're already EQd for more bass, that can be too much. Now I can say I have a new pair of Sennheiser cans that I also like. The HD 660s2 cans really DO reveal more detail across the board. YOUR comparison to the HD 820 is extremely interesting to me because I haven't listened to those. And I wonder which sound I'd prefer. Don't know. But once more, I don't see many people comparing 600 phones with 800 series phones. Pretty telling you didn't like your HD 820 cans as much.
my dude. look up some parametric EQ for the 820s, it will change them to next level. But overall yeah - diminishing returns hit hard in headphones. You can get the same "in a room" effect with AKG K702, but you also have to EQ them.
These are the holy grail (HG) of headphone. Look up (HG1) STAX SR-Ω + Stax SRM-T2, (HG2) Sony MDR-R10 Aka The King and (HG3) Sennheiser HE90 & HEV90 Orpheus System.
Bro, please try that Sony 1000 xm5 , because they have bought all the bloggers which are singing that its the best headphones ever. We really need your honest review in comparing with your Sennheiser 600.
I have those actually but they don’t really compare because they aren’t for music production. They’re just regular/casual listening headphones. They’re really good tho
I like to listen Power Metal. Which one you can advice me to buy (Hd600,660S2, or XM5) I need an expert decision) Thanks Bro for your channel @@LDreTheGiant
First - I AM NOT AN EXPERT ON HI-FI.... but, I think those cans may require a powered "DAC." Also, I think there may be a "burn in" period of time before they are ready... My Audio Technica ATH M50X's sounded better over time. Good luck.
I make beats on IEMs and mix with Sennheiser HD650 & Audeze LCD-X. You should check Audeze out my guy, more body and impact. They have the LCD-XC (closed) and a portable LCD-1 (open). Their In-ears also look promising. From what I remember when I auditioned them, the HD800 were on the bright side and they definitely need a dedicated amp. Them Audeze go up to $4500 since you like the finer things so much lol BTW, Props on liking the 600s, I hate them lol I sold mine after 2 weeks and stuck with the 650s for almost a decade now.
Why not going for neumann which is the pro audio branch of sennheiser their ndh30 is 600 usd and is far better :) but i agree with you, i had an expensive pair of sennheiser too and returned them cause i was preferring the hd600 and the hd580 lol smh, i dont like closed headphones to mix its not great
Whereas first impressions are important - you should trust your ears, it takes time to settle into a sound. In fact, if you are not reaching for them, that will tell you more than any other kind of impression or reaction.

You probably need to do hours upon hours of wear in to get those headphones to meet their potential, that said 2k for headphones you're asking to be disappointed, especially if you're buying from a company like Sennheiser- I suspect they sounded thin and lacked a pronounced bottom end in comparison to the ones you use regularly... Try the Focal Elex via Drop, they are my go to open backs at the moment... And the Mr. Speakers Ether CX are my go to closed. I'm a huge headphone collector so I have A LOT of headphones.

I had a similar experience when I went from the DT 770's which I had for 10 years to the DT 700 Pro X. They sounded identical... but were 2x the money. And I just realized that there's literally zero improvement in quality after like $150. If you want better, you have to get Studio Monitors with a subwoofer. Headphones simply can't get any better. And the very very expensive headphones are just a tax on rich people.
I mean no offense and ik this comment is kind of old, but you have zero idea what you're talking about lol Beyerdynamic isn't known for making headphones that are much better after like $200 (the exception being the 1990 and 1770, but even then those aren't loved by anyone) There are plenty of audio brands to try that will give you substantial jumps in quality (Focal, Audeze, Hifiman, Sennheiser, Final, Moondrop, Meze, etc). You dont need to buy the most expensive things, just a few key items and you'll get an amazing "upgrade" you seek
Yeah, when it comes to new headphones, you need to break them in, at least 40 hours or less. But, with my 17 years of experience with headphones, open-back headphones are definitely better for mixing in my opinion. Closed-back headphones are more for consumer listening and tracking vocals or instruments. Anyways, thanks Dre for reviewing those beautiful and expensive AF headphones 🤣 👊🏼
@@SeanDinanMusic I actually had the ATH-M40x back then and for the price tag, I think they are great. But if you are looking for something that is better on sound quality and sound stage, I prefer open-back headphones. Professional mixing engineers who use headphones also agree on this.
Bro the HD820 are a poor pair of closed backs, you can do wayy better. Watch true audiophiles like Resolve etc who understand the industry, Focal Elegia are better than HD820s, and they're $400. Get a pair of Focal Stellia and watch your HD600 dissapear into the ether.
Made my day better to see you uploaded! Love from NYC
Much love !
For some reason, I feel fine after watching this video and still rockin' my amazing Sennheiser HD 25 II from 15 years ago
Meanwhile me makin beats with 20 dollar headphones 😂
5 dollar earphones 😭😭
There’s some legendary producer out there using regular apple earphones lol at the end of the day it doesn’t matter much
It's usually not a good idea to compare open and closed headphones, you may want to try other closed backs if you're considering switching.
Lesson learned. I’ll probably just get some $500 closed backs
