This is hands down the best explanation on frame data I have seen, it all makes sense now! I'll make sure to send my friends your way when trying to get them into Tekken. Thanks doood!
Connor Byrne! Thanks braaaaaah!
I agree. Wish he made this back in tekken 6 Haha
I can’t possibly overstate how helpful this video was, I have played tekken a lot as a kid but I’m trying to get back into it now that tekken 8 is about to come out. I know this video is years old but it’s still helpful even now. Very great stuff
Tekken has by far the best content creators in FGC
Truth.
You really do eventually get the feel for when you're plus or minus. I promise it becomes intuitive after a while.
I don't play this game much but wow just wow. Bravo on a concept relevant to many games. This is like counting cards 😅 on a deck of moves.
Yup! It's kinda like counting cards, but eventually it becomes autonomous xD
Seriously my mind was blown at 15:40. I never knew that’s how frames worked and makes so much more sense Thanks.
^_^ glad you have been enlightened.
This is the best frame explanation on UA-cam. Frame data for dummies. Ny times best seller!
Hahahhaa, appreciate it bro
Just wanted to comment to support. Your videos are incredibly helpful even 4 years later, thank you c:
Glad I could help!
Hope you see this. I just got back into tekken. Haven’t played since Tekken 3 on the ps 1. I wanted to start arc the very basics so I could git gud. This is by far the best and most extensive Tekken tutorial out there. They should pay you. Thank you so much.
Still holds up years later. Legendary video
Thank you!!
I stopped playing tekken for like 6 months, these videos really help shave of some of the rust, hands down the best bryan guides on youtube, I been going through these videos with a notepad lol.
Definitely polish off that rust and these guides are definitely here to help you get back on track! Best of luck on your Tekken journey.
Still watching this is 2021! Thanks Peter.
Thank you Anthony :)
Best frame videos hands down! We need more videos - Tekken 8! Now you’ll have hundreds of contents to create.
Your frame data topic was not overdone. I really appreciated it. This is one of those videos you will come back to further understand the game rewatching multiple times just like the rest of your fundamentals videos are a God Send. Excellent work. 💯🤝👊🤜👏🙌👍
Thank you, thank you Norman! I hope this helps you level up.
I bought tekken because it was on weekend sale and thank you for this very detailed guide I finished watching 101-103 and made a routine practice to put it in my muscle memory. I got promoted to brawler with 80k tekken prowess just because I know what whiff punishes and good spacing are. I can't express how thankful I am for giving us a free lesson but here's a subscribe
Thanks Alex! I really appreciate you enjoying the guides. I'm happy you picked up Tekken and subbed to this channel. Best of luck on your new Tekken journey :)
planning to play tekken 8 after my casual experience with tekken 3 and 5 and this video was golden thank you for the amazing explaination
Been trying to learn this frame data since Tekken 5 DR, it took me years to understand this not until now 2022. Amazing video. Thanks.
Better late than never ;)
I've watched TONS of videos of frame data and NONE of them come close to this one. Thank you so much bro
You’re welcome bro!
Tekken 7 has the best frame data systems atm making it one of the most most successful fighting game at present . They continuously working to tune frame data, while other games abandoned their customers announcing EOL (end of life) such as (mk11.
Yeah Tekken 7 is still tweaking things. Slowly... but they still tweaking I think.
Video is not short.
But the best and comprehensive frame data tutorial.
Thanks and more power to you sir!
👏👏👏🎮
Thanks for the explanation the best explanation out there. I play tekken and has 24 hrs game time and has no knowledge about frames this will help me on my tekken journey!
It's definitely a journey man. Don't try to master it all in one go. A lot of Tekken is gained through days and days, weeks and weeks of learning and before long you'll realize what kinda info you have acquired :)
@@PeterYMao Thanks a lot!
Watching this for Tekken 8 and SF 6! I was never good at fighting games and couldn't understand how players could accomplishes certain combos, reads, and movement in any fighting game. This series has given me the tools and foundation to finally allow me to enjoy fighting games at a higher and deeper level and possibly make me more competitive.
Hope your journey has been good! I bet your ready for Tekken 8 like I am!
Dude I admit I've watched this a couple of times and it's too lot to digest for me. But after watching it today...it finally makes sense now! Thanks a lottt!
You got this!
Hey man, fresh tekken 7 player here, many thanks for your videos - they are very in-depth, but still understandable to scrubs like me.
To me, this video in particular makes every other video with/about tekken frame data make so much more sense.
Glad to help! Frame data can be extremely important. Hope the knowledge has provided you with some good benefits :)
My fren, I always thought I were good at tekken. Until I’ve played online and got wrecked so many times. Thanks for your video and your explanations. It makes much sense now.
Glad I could help!
Really well explained! Your videos have a great length, I much more prefer a calm, clear and concise explanation that lasts 30min than a rushed ultra-edited 10min video that throws so much information to you in such a short time that makes you want to Alt-F4 and be done with it. Thanks a lot! I will be watching the entire series.
Loving the different segments on your playlist. Using a his as a newbie for Tekken 8
Peter, Great Video! Really helped me understand Frame data and the advantages/disadvantages. Thank you!
Grand Kai Gaming no problem man! Glad you found it useful! As long as a few people find it useful, I’m happy to keep making these videos. Also some of the resources out there are very scattered or difficult to understand so I try to make it easy to digest :D
This video right here makes it SO much easier to understand frame data! Thank you for making this Peter!
You’re very welcome man :)
I know T8 is dropping soon but I’m glad I’m getting into T7 now. I can take all this info try to execute it in T7 and carry it on to T8. Great video
I certainly understand the theory behind all this frame data stuff thanks to this video. I can't make use of it personally since I failed nearly every math class I was ever in and thus I suck with numbers, but it does make me respect the hell out of anyone who is able to learn this stuff. I'm not a fast thinker, nor is my memory worth a damn, so I play fighting games on instinct, which is just the fancy was of saying half button mashing and half abusing moves that seem most likely to succeed. Still, despite my own short comings, its nice to now understand all the lingo when people talk about it, even if the numbers cited just leaves me confused with an aching head, lol. So thank you for the explanation, now I can at least follow what people are on about.
You are very welcome dreadrath. Frame data becomes easier the more you use it. Just know if something is -14 then you can use a move that is 14 frames on start up and it will punish it. If something is -14 you can even use a move that is 10 frames on start up and it will still punish it. As long as your attack's start up is smaller than the number of the minus you can punish it.
@@PeterYMao Thanks for the tips. My reaction time isn't the greatest (Lousy eyesight) but I do sometimes recognize those windows of opportunity, so its nice to know what they are. I guess I can figure out which moves garner a frame advantage when they connect and memorize a couple of simple, quick and easy followup moves to work into a routine, like an automatic response to compensates a bit for my poor reaction speed (I spot openings just after its too late to exploit them sadly)
I suppose I'll just start simple and focus on following up on a single move that gains an advantage and see how I do. I'm only playing Tekken 3 right now, I plan on getting T7 once the stupid lockdown ends. Regardless, this video even helps with Tekken 3 because I'm now noticing frame data in practice mode. Hehe, I also play Bryan, his laugh creeped me out as a kid, but now I'm way older I think he's awesome, landing Fishermen Slam makes me smile.
Great channel man!
I have been watching your videos from time to time and have recently become Byakko rank! First time ever :) so happy much wow. especially as a Jin main :D
Thanks Anton for taking the time to watch the videos on my channel. Big congrats on achieving that rank man :)

That's awesome Agent! Keep at it man!
this is one of the most informative videos i’ve ever watched LOL. I was trying to put off learning frame data, because of how complicated it sounded hearing other ppl talk ab it, but you really simplified it. Thank you!
Your tutorials are helping hundereds if not thousands players getting into Tekken, Peter. Thanks for everything.
Awww, thanks JunkyRyan :)
Been playing the game for like a month now and I still find it hard to know whether or not a frame advantage is minus or plus ! Thanks for the videos :D
Good luck! I hope with time you will have an idea Francois.

You're very welcome Ayyappa Kallapiran.
How does this guy not have more subs, I have been looking for a video like this for years. Now I can start learning Jack's and Leroy Smith when he comes out
Aww thank Simon. I do wish I had more subs, but I work with the people I have. I enjoy providing quality content, and not just mass content. I think quality > quantity.
Hey pal really this video, very detailed, good work!!
Thanks Suttle T :) appreciate you taking a look at the video.
Thank you, Peter. Great series of tutorials!
Thanks for watching!
Now I am clear with frame data 👍👍👍

Good job man thanks a lot! I’m a Bryan main and I’m glad I found your channel.
Glad you enjoy the channel Ghost Los :)
Yuh cuz everybody be talking about the frame stuff that I don't understand so I need this

Now you can read frame data! :D
The BEST video on this topic. Wow, this series is phenomenal...thank you for all the effort you put into this, you are brilliant at structuring and transmitting information! I’ll look out for more tutorials from you! Maybe Guilty Gear ? :)
Wow, thank you so much TechnoShamanism. I do plan to play some other fight games, however as of now I'm waiting for probably Project L.
I absolutely love this channel, I'm not sure how hectic your schedule is but I would love to see your upload more especially to do with fundamentals through your guides I've got both Paul and Bryan to vanquisher rank.. just from fundamentals, whiff punishing and black punishing.... (oh and because people cannot throw break Paul's df1+2 or ff1+2 🤣)
My schedule is pretty hectic. I work a lot, and have a wife and home to take care of. I don't got too much time lately to be making guides. It's very time consuming.
This video is amazing and very helpful.
Thank you very much for your effort on doing this beginner tutorials brother, appreciate it
I hope it helps you out :)
peter taking the fun outta tekken again :(
But now you understand :)
PeterYMao bro every time you teach me something I use it and it works. I always knew the basics of frame data but never knew bout jab into forward 3. I’ve used it on ALOT of players so far
Excellent video Peter, very informative.

Thanks man.
Great video my man🍻👐🏽 now i have more understanding.
Thanks for the video, the best on frame data
Thanks GenoSolid. I know it can be such a daunting experience trying to learn frame data as in the beginning it's just a shit ton of number, so I wanted to make sure to break it down.
@@PeterYMao definitely bro
Thank you for this video! It was very helpful!
starting to like fighting games at this point from just watching these tutorials
Great video as always
Dude this explains a lot, thanks for the video :D
What a great guy you are ❤
God tier explanation ❤
this videos are amazing, really. thank you so much
Great video bro OMGGG!
Good video
Ninkazai thanks!
Fun Fact:- Bryan have only "1" 8 frames moves which is Back Turned 1 or 2 which is obviously not possible in this scenario.
Thanks for the fun fact!
Learning so much from your channel ❤️❤️❤️❤️ you the best 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Wow.. this really helped me to understand the most of frame data thank you so much and you just Earned a sub ❤
Thanks for the sub!
Awesome video. We need this detail. Thanks 🙏
No problem 👍
I lol'd at the 'safe' part.
🤣
Thanks
No problem!
the best teacher
Again nice video 🔥🔥
nice explanation!!! now should I memorize the frame data of my character.... hmm...
There's definitely no harm in memorizing it for your character. You should definitely know your frames for your own character.
Thank you so much for these videos they are helping me out a lot!
Question i went to check Marduk's frames on the website and it doesnt sho some of his start-up frames, any reason for this or are they just missing?
No problem David Nascimento! To answer your question. Marduk's frames are not missing, but rather RBNorway did not put in the information because the moves that are blank for start-up all have the same start-up frames as the move before it. So if you look at 1 it is 10fr start-up, but 1,2 doesn't have anything filled it. This is because 1,2 starts with 1 and 1 is 10fr start-up so they didn't bother putting in 10fr start-up since it is all from a standing 1.
@@PeterYMao Oh i see! Thank you again for your tremendous help!
Please tips on using a fight stick
Noted, it'll be on my to-do list.
So TLDR: Be mindful of how long your moves take to hit, be extremely wary if they block and attempt to counter where appropriate. hits that take longer are risky so build up advantage to combo
GREAT VIDEO! first video thats actually helped me understand frame data, but I have some questions the video didnt cover if anyone has the answer / could point me in the right direction.
Im a yoshimitsu main so all my questions will be based around his frame data.
Question 1 : Strings and how their frames work?
So to keep it simple Yoshi has a 2,2 string. The first punch is 11 frames and +5 On hit and the second hit says 24 frames. Is this 24 frames actually 13 frames and its just adding the total length of the move? It seems to be the case but that leads into a different problem.
Question 2 : Assuming 2,2 in TOTAL is 24 frames and you get the +5 that means the 13 frames for the 2nd hit should 8 frames, then why cant flash punish it?
So I tried in practice mode to just take the 1st hit and flash. A lot of combos can be broken by Yoshis flash and the game says his flash is 6 - 9 frames?
What does 6 - 9 frames mean? is that how long the hit box is active or is there a variable I dont know? So unless Im only getting the 9 frame flash why isnt it a punish
Actually just tested it and that must be the case, because if I block the 1st hit then being +1 then immediately flash we trade. The frame data must be 13F + 5 = 8f and Flash 9f +1 = 8f
This still doesnt clear up the whole 6-9 problem xD Also for reference Yoshi's no sword stance flash is 8 - 11 so the 3 frame thing is atleast consistent.
Anyways if anyone has answers I'd love to hear them thx!
