  • Siri is a mess. And everyone who's used Siri knows it. In this short video I rant about all the ways Siri fails. Not my normal video.

    Rich, it's not just Siri. For me Alexa can be just as challenging. One day she'll honor my request to open/start UA-cam tv but then the next time she says she can't do it. Similar negative reaction when I ask her to add an item to a specific shopping list. (Kudos where kudos belong... she has 'turn on the tv' down pat!) Maybe if I used Siri more often I'd be as frustrated as you but Alexa is my go-to assistant. They both come in handy in my day-to-day living. Appreciate your channel and all the info you share with this technology challenged senior. :o)

    Hi Rich! Siri is sometimes frustrating. That was so funny you made a reference to the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. Great video! Kindness, Teresa

      Hey Teresa! Good to hear from you. I didn't think anyone would get the 2001 Space Odyssey thing - but almost everyone has! We're all of a "certain age..."

    So true. I’m 70 and fairly tech literate. Siri, chats, etc are impossible. I switched to Apple from a career in Windows. I thought it would be better in retirement. Everything you said is true. I try non Apple apps and that is even worse. You finally get something you want and then lose it. There is so much potential for seniors who are alone and just failure and disappointments.

    • @RichBowlin
      @RichBowlin  7 місяців тому +4

      Yep. Siri could be such a help to so many people, particularly seniors, who want to use their iPhone and iPad for more than just the basics but don't want to have to learn a foreign language to do it. Thanks so much for watching!

    I’m fairly new to iPhones, but in the last 5 months, since I bought my iPhone, I’ve noticed the same issues you mention (glad to know it’s not necessarily me). For all of its problems, however, Siri is still way ahead of Google. I had an android for many years and was totally fed up with saying, “Hey Google” and getting absolutely no response. It was totally worthless. Siri may not always give me satisfying answers, but it at least it responds. I’m very happy with it, but look forward to future improvements.

    Love the Space Odyssey ending. I have had a few problems with SIRI also. Driving and requesting directions, phone calls etc. I hope it will make improvements with SIRI. Thank you for your video on this matter. I thought I was doing something wrong with my questions to SIRI. Sad but glad it’s not me.
    I enjoy your channel!

    But, as everything in life there’s pros & cons. And the stone in my shoes is called Siri. No one else has de capacity, nor the skill, to alter my mostly and peaceful days. Really I hate Siri !!

    A fan of Apple, I am truly concern with their lack of innovation and the way they are falling behind. Keynote, Pages, Numbers... are the same thing. Siri is a disaster. AI is not part of the plan. Steve Jobs would be so disappointed with this generation of Apple management. .

    Talk about frustration. I just bought a new 24 inch iMac with an M3 chip. I then tried to import all my old music from my old iMac. The mess that ended up on my new computer is beyond belief. About half of the album art was not the and many times I had to go searching for the music that was on my old iMac. I would love for you to make a video on this subject. Make phone calls
    Send text
    Create list
    Create shopping list
    Create reminder
    Set timer
    Turn on/off lights
    Dim/brighten lights

    Are you so lonely that you half to talk to Siri on your phone? I want to make and receive calls, I don't want to talk to my phone. These Siri, Alexa, and Bixby features are really annoying. My Samsung smartphone Moto E5 the battery lasted 6 months. You half to hire someone to install a new battery because they glue the phone together, and glue the battery into the phone. About 10 days later it just quit working and crashed. I lost a lot of pictures! I went back to a flip phone because of the quality and not being able to change the battery by myself,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

      Siri is a ‘Gift From the Gods’ to folks such my sister and I.
      (‘Mobility Issues’ to also include arthritis that limits use of hands and fingers)
      But if Siri Alexa Bixby are annoying you, then simply TURN THEM OFF.
      BTW, Samsung does not make the Moto 5.

    I find that it is very important to use the correct ‘command’ works, and annunciation them clearly. Like many people, I have friends that get laze with their speech habits and I think that is the reason why so many people have issue with using Siri.

    I have to agree. I have to carefully word every request/command to Siri so she/he understands what I’m directing. The rumor mill is that Siri is set to get a massive overhaul with AI in iOS/iPadOS 18, and that Apple has been working on this for a while because when they release it, they want it to shock everyone and leave the competition in the dust. Like all things Apple, they wear these things close to the chest and are more secretive than the NSA. And I like the nod to 2001 at the end, an all-time classic.

    • @RichBowlin
      @RichBowlin  7 місяців тому +4

      Correct on all points. Apple does hold everything close, so we'll see if 18 fixes everything. Or at least the basics. Ha! I wasn't sure if anyone would get the 2001 Space Odyssey reference. But I thought it fit nicely.

    We’ve come to the conclusion that she hates my wife….. and the feeling is mutual! They certainly don’t get along. Many times she gets …”who’s speaking” or you have to set it up in the home app…even though it’s set up already. I had to stop the video several times so I could tell Siri to stop playing…not once did she ask who is speaking? You nailed it with the Space Odyssey reference. The look on “Dave’s” face is so often the face we present when listening to Siri respond to something.

    I have Apple gear since iPhone 12 series , and I also have a heap of Google/Android gear , don’t feel too bad about SIri , I think ai assistants in general regardless of platform are prone to issues , I have seen Google’s assistant do some pretty weird stuff at times.
    For example I set a timer to take medication on one of my 5 Google home devices , a while later I came back into kitchen and the timer display had disappeared, I asked Google how much time was left on the timer , it explained to me “ there was no timer running” , and I’m starting to get a bit cranky now 😳, so I asked Google to show timer , and sure enough up comes the timer display with the correct time left 😊, and that is not all that uncommon .
    AI assistants in general still have a way to go yet I think.

If I call a customer service center and it’s a robot they never understand me. I usually hang up. In a society that now avoids talking to other humans at all costs I don’t know how people are expecting that a computer will understand what they want. Regarding the end of your video can Siri sing Daisy?

    Thanks Rich for pointing this out regarding SIRI. I must say Alexa is a heck of a lot smarter...lol

      I mentioned to another viewer I use both Alexa and Siri. But yes, Alexa can actually answer a question!

      Not for me. Or not very well I should say. It'd be easier if Siri didn't work at all. It's when Siri works half the time that maddening. Thanks so much for watching!
