While Hoffman died young, his list of great performances feels endless.
While his life was cut short, I feel like his career wasn't. I feel like he lived up to his potential

Some of us are weak, some stronge, some with you, some alone, some of us are assholes, some of us saints, but all of us hurt. James Lipton said it best, "He (Hoffman) could play anything." he was the opposite of typecast. In Boogie Nights he played a Flaming Homosexual, a harmless Beta Male, in Mission Impossible he played the Alpha Male one of the most imposing Villains I have ever seen in a movie. in Along Came Polly he was the Comic relief, and I must admit he was hilarious in that.

I was mesmerized by his performances. I couldn’t understand how anyone could so embody a role. I spotted him first in Twister and knew then that he would probably go places. He brought such an intensity to that almost thankless role. He was a standout. Then he started appearing in character roles where you didn’t even know he was in a film until later and then you think back and say, “Wow, he WAS in that, wasn’t he?” In Flawless he was stunning. In Happyness we was frighteningly dark and disturbed. In that Meryl Streep film he was just brilliant. Dark, disturbing, but sympathetic as well. How do you play a child molester who is sympathetic? Because he made him human. I have no sympathy for child molesters, but you got to know him as a person in that role. He truly had fooled himself into thinking what he was doing wasn’t harmful. Scary good performance.

Brad Penrod I was a huge fan of his as a heroin user myself and even worse a fentanyl user I understand what he was going through, but he has to be somewhat at fault when you see his toxicology and how many drugs he was mixing and taking from adderall to alcohol to heroin and benzos and all the other drugs they found in his system the worst part is the dope he was taking wasn’t even mixed with fentanyl so I’m sure if you take all the other drugs out of the equation he prob wouldn’t of died that night. When someone overdoses on heroin more then 80% of the time it’s because they mixed the dope with benzos and other drugs and any other time it’s usually because of low tolerance. In this case he had no chance with the amount of other stuff he was taking.

I don't think drugs are good but I think we need to change our ways of addressing them. If they decriminalized and legalized drugs and put all the money wasted on arrests/convictions into actual treatment facilities and drug education (real education, not PSA propaganda), more addicts would seek help since they wouldn't feel like criminals, less adulteration of substances would occur since the market would be monitored/controlled, cartels/dealers and crime associated with both would become obsolete, and addicts would have a safe place to do their drugs where overdoses can be prevented/reversed.
What we've been doing for over the past hundred years obviously hasn't worked. It's only caused more drug use, more deaths, more crime, more incarcerations, higher deficits - which results in higher taxes, and more ignorance/hypocrisy relating to the topic. We need to focus more on improving people's mental health than on criminalizing their addiction.

Drugs don't 'get' a person. A person turns to drugs due to pain, loneliness, trauma, and being mentally unwell. If you could remove drugs from the Earth, they would find another way to tune out and damage themselves. Drugs are not the answer, for sure, but they are not the problem either. A culture as unfeeling and alienating and traumatizing as this, is the problem. Drug abuse is just a symptom.

A devastating loss not just to movies but art itself. This man is definitely in the top 10 greatest actors of all time. His talent was limitless, his performances perfect, and his versatility endless. I know it’s only one actor but in the past 10 years since he’s been gone I’ve noted a steep decline in the quality of movies and actors. PHS will always be remembered as the greatest of his generation and ultimately his death from drugs is irrelevant. He will not be remembered as an addict he will be remembered as a master of his craft, an artist in every sense of the word unfettered by any scandal surrounding his demise. RIP PHS, your remarkable talent is something I and many others will personally cherish for the rest of our lives

He was the drugs. Don’t separate the man from his magic. Rest assured, he couldn’t.

as an ex Heroin addict now clean for 12 years i dont know how i ever got to the point of a needle but it steals your soul & trying to hide it from the world, friends & family, trying to pretend to carry on a normal life becomes impossible for the average person being a celebrity junky i couldn't imagine how much he was hurting & struggling with himself on the inside. even if you come out of the addiction your not the same person or soul and you always carry shame of the past

I really am over people who say once a drug addict always a drug addict. Yes i have thought about my bad experiences with crystal meth but i would never go back because i have learned what this drug does to the human mind.

Drugs didn't take him; he took the drugs. But I loved him and will miss him dearly.

The actor that played Ed Kemper in Mindhunter was spot on, however I wonder how PSH would have done with role. Truly amazing, gone too soon!
