Just watched "The Master" last night for the very first time and was blown away and haunted by his performance as much as Joaquin Phoenix's performance... and then saw the first word of his death over Twitter when it the news first broke.... the best actor of my generation! R.I.P. !
He was what you call a "brilliant" actor in every facet of the word. His diversity allowed him to play a funny role in "Along Came Polly" , but then on the other hand could get serious on you in a film like "Capote" and get so much acclaim , not to mention an academy award. Guy was just brilliant. So talented beyond explanation.
Supposedly he had only a few scenes to finish for the last two Hunger Games too. So we will see him in that and they are going to do a few digital things to compensate because there was one important scene unfinished. It will be somewhat of a tribute to PSM, R.I.P.
I am aware and respectful of that. I don't know why you had such an angry reaction to what I said. I simply said it must be emotionally taxing to be in one of PTA's movies.
I know right? can't believe I'm just now hearing about this. I don't know where he'd fit in the movie but anything would have just been great. There will be blood is pretty perfect how it is though.
Yes he was a Master but this was also a "Master interview " thank you for the memories ;( job well done ... now i can remember him smiling away thanks to you !
A while? The first time he got clean was when he was 22. That makes it 25+ years. Heroin is a major pain in the ass to get rid off, though! I really liked this guy as an actor!!! May he rest in peace!
So sad about Phillip Seymour Hoffman...he was an absolute modern-day genius of an actor! A true actor! A method actor! Kind of like James Dean,or Montgomery Clift!
The Great-Great. The industry has lost some of its staying power with him out of it. Thinking along the lines of Symbiosis. & His talent was part of what’s so great to witness in the film making industry. Period. I also love the interview he and Laura Linney did for savages, “unscripted”.
Creepy interviewer, I realise he was just trying to have fun and play around but it doesn't seem like they're actual friends in real life so it feels odd. Besides, you've got one of the best actors in front of you and you chose to ask such frivolous questions and ask him to sing? Sigh, I wish there were more interviews about his role other than this crappy one.
jeez this guy is awkward trying to make people sing? ? ? come on . . that creepy level came out of nowhere. not even the guy from inside the actors studio could pull that shit off.
The whites of his eye in this interview are still very white.. but he was loaded with inflammation ...just the red in his face shows a predisposition to inflammation. Blood pressure/diabetes... these conditions effect mood.. High sugar levels create sundown syndrome.. I bet you he was wonderful in the morning...and possibly his worst at night.. Very sad to see someone who seems very wonderful life end short.
Roles not played? I can't see the future and sometimes it's just the way the cookie crumbles. His life will inspire many and his death is a learning experience for many I think too.
I continue to be so infatuated with him. He was such a prodigy of an artist.
You can still be infatuated with him in his new role as Governor Tim Walz.
i know it's weird.... i mean, it's not like
we were buds or somethin', but...
i really miss this frickin' guy.
R.I.P. One of the best actors of this time.
Agree, and of character actors one of the best of all time.
Best actor of all time. Yes he was that good.
@@DC-zi6se and the most genuine and empathetic too

He is an adorable and talented man and we'll all miss him so much (:
It devastates me that he really won't be in any other Paul Thomas Anderson film. Or any film for that matter, a giant lost.
Supposedly he had only a few scenes to finish for the last two Hunger Games too. So we will see him in that and they are going to do a few digital things to compensate because there was one important scene unfinished. It will be somewhat of a tribute to PSM, R.I.P.
Lisa Surlie a junky who has accomplished more than you will ever achieve in your whole life. Rest in peace
"If I was never in another Paul Thomas Anderson movie, I'd be fine."
:(
Haha well those PTA films must be so emotionally taxing on his actors!
I am aware and respectful of that. I don't know why you had such an angry reaction to what I said. I simply said it must be emotionally taxing to be in one of PTA's movies.
Most people who truly love movies will be rocked to the core today. What a sad fucked up day. One of the best ever.
A truly powerful actor. one of the best ever. sad that he couldn't beat the drugs or the depression that haunted him.
dude him and daniel day lewis would be electric!
I know right? can't believe I'm just now hearing about this. I don't know where he'd fit in the movie but anything would have just been great. There will be blood is pretty perfect how it is though.

So sad about Phillip Seymour Hoffman...he was an absolute modern-day genius of an actor! A true actor! A method actor! Kind of like James Dean,or Montgomery Clift!
Ahaha he's getting all embarrassed, "no, no, i'm not gonna sing that". Strange to see an actor get red-faced like that. :)
he was awesome in mission impossible!
Shame, shame, shame! A wonderful actor so diverse and it is a huge loss to the acting world. R.I.P Mr Seymour Hoffman and thank you
He was great in 25th hour with Ed Norton, Barry Pepper, Rasario Dawson.
Nolan should've chosen him to play the Penguin
