Nice idea - the eco friendly business.
I have the EGO setup, love the strimmer/leaf blower and brush cutter. Their mower only collects dry grass though, which is limiting if you do this professionally. A fortnightly mow on damp or dew grass and it is not happening without making an awful mess; the deck just clogs up. Great in good conditions but battery mowers have a way to go yet.

Im from Los Ángeles, CA. California code now only allows electric equipment. Gas equipment is phasing out. We still have a ton of gas equipment that works great but we just recently converted two of our routes to fully electric and we’ve felt no downtime or major slowing. It’s not as strong a gas equipment in certain circumstances but it all works great! We do a ton of HOAs and commercial landscape, my two crews love the equipment. We use commercial battery equipment.

Just to add on to my previous comment the other issue I've had again using electric equipment since 2016 is dealer support sometimes the batteries suddenly stopped working and in the case of my larger electric ride-on mower no one really knows how to troubleshoot them. I forced myself to learn how to fix them since the dealer will only send it back to the manufacturer for repair which leaves me without equipment one time up to almost 2 months before I got it back. All these towns cities and villages that are forcing us to switch to electric do not consider these factors. Although I started all electric, in order to grow my business I have gone a hybrid style of electric and gas because the truth is we are not ready to go all electric at least not in the Northeast with the type of leaf fall we experience

Wow that sounds great, I've been using electric equipment since 2016 same ego setup but after about the third season the majority of my batteries I have crapped out I have had some replaced under warranty but the majority had to get chucked out and I've had to replace them out of pocket. Like you said some of these are $500 or so a piece and I don't know how many lawns he does in a day but between the blower weed wacker and mower I find myself carrying around 12 to 15 batteries to get through a standard lawn Care day. I saw the same kind of attraction to going full electric when I started but as my accounts get larger and I see the price of the batteries go up I don't know how much longer it can be feasible unless gas goes up to around 8 or $9 a gallon in the batteries do not go up anymore price.

    • @luispatino3180
      @luispatino3180 2 роки тому +3

It's not so much of wanting to keep gas it's more like in my area the towns are banning gas equipment little by little. This year will be the first year they completely banned gas leaf blowers in Larchmont NY. Most guys will just keep using the gas ones until the fines get out of hand. Believe it's $250 for the first offense and $500 thereafter for the company user AND homeowner so everyone is at fault for breaking the law. Hopefully they will see the fault in their decision once fall clean up prices spike up and the homeowners who didn't know this law would be passed try to amend the law.

I wouldn't worry about the price of batteries, just buy a mower kit since it's the same price that's what we do. Then we liquidate the mowers. I keep 60mah batteries and while others are charging for the hour, the ONE I use for front and back is good with life left. Swap and keep going. The thing people don't understand is HOW to charge properly especially on new batteries, when you get the new battery or item with the battery. you have to run them out first THEN you charge. From there it will take 2 more charges to hit full power potential and you're set. Most just buy and charge and that messes up the battery memory

My question is this: How many batteries do you carry with you and what is the run time. If only a couple of batts, then how do you charge on the go or do you charge on the go? If you charge on the go, then isn't the point of cordless wasted on having to charge off the car battery/alternator or a portable genset/other power source. I have just recently picked up a 60v cordless string trimmer and love it but I cannot see using it for full time and using it for more than 1 hour without having multiple batteries or charging on the go. Thanks for reading/responding ahead of time (If you do that is, either way :-) ). Great vid by the way and I can definitely see the good aspects of electric.

Went through the same thing, still am.
I bought a $250 Certified Mower (Canadian Tire), a $160 Champion Curve-shaft trimmer, rake, gloves, safety glasses and a broom. Everything went into the trunk of my Toyota Corolla. The rake, broom and trimmer went through the small-sided rear folding seat.
I did it as a summer-gig while I was waiting for my second and final year of my program to begin. I had one ad posted just before the start of the season on Kijiji and capped my intake at 15 clients to avoid getting overwhelmed in September and October while I was in school.
I’ll be going full out now that I’ll be out of school. Registered the sole proprietorship and I’m paying someone for a logo that roles with my current name.
You can do it (and your car!)
      Edit:
For anyone doing this out of a car, put a rear seat cover on, something to protect the carpet in the rear, and put a tarp in your trunk and secure it to the best of your ability. Keep your interior as nice as possible!

Ive tried other string trimmers but they dont compare to the makita. If u ever need a hand blower the one on amazon also has 4 batteries. You end up w/ 8 batteries for the price of 4. Been in business 25 years so i dont say this lightly. Backpack blowers and mowers still need alot of work to compete w/ gas.

    • @luispatino3180

String trimmers, small chain saws and hedge trimmers CAN compete with gas. They draw much less power over the mowers and blowers. If the law makers had common sense, they'd ban or limit string trimmers and hedge trimmers which is feasible for lawn care business to transition to. It's going to be a few more years of battery and charging advancement for the mowers and blowers to keep up with gas on a commerical level. Not talking about power or cut quality im talking about run time and battery degredation.

You can add a couple items into the commercial set up but using them for full time 20 plus residential properties a day is a poor choice. Line trimmer sure, a dedicated edger (ok if maintenance edges) and a hand held blower would work well if you keep clippings to a minimum on hard surfaces.
But you Can not replace a echo 9010 or a Stihl br800 As a example For fall leaf cleanups. Not yet at least.
The 21 the only real option as of right now is the toro e hd it is a commercial hd same blade drive train, everything except the motor. But your getting the excat same cut quality with blade
Speed at 18,000ft per min. These residential units have poor cut quality in comparison, we’re are professionals people expect professionals results not half ass (with well I’m sorry it’s all this mower can do)
Just my experience before lithium was the main source at the time the core trimmer was the only commercial unit you could get. I tried to do all electric was not profitable,
Went back to gas started adding electric back in to help off set cost of gas on certain items.

Switching from gas to coal (electricity). How do people still not realize the environmental impact of mining lithium, Batteries in land fills, and your only saving about half of what your gas bill would be. It's a sham.

Is it a shame or is it what the media wants us to believe so they push their narrative. Don’t know what you want from the consumer especially with everything going electric. I understand what your saying but all truth be told they want control, and eventually we will be everything electric. Honestly really not any great option bc a whole bunch of oil isn’t very good either as we’re having current disposal issues now which is why there’s tons of oil leaking into our oceans and other waters. I’ve spoken to multiple manufacturers and they’re all (makers) planning on moving to all electric (Landscaping makers). These are people who have direct contact with the actual makers of the products. Just like we’re seeing more cars, etc.

I’m looking for equipment in the spring, and Honda, and a few others are discontinuing a good bit of their gas products to go eco. They don’t care about the environment but more so the employees they have to pay for maintenance…

Nothing against going electric. I think it’s great for noise concerns but to say it’s “eco friendly” is just a lie.
