    Did that fellow lawn care person flip you off over jealousy or hate for electric business? Never understood the hate for someone who's trying to do good, be successful and teach and show a better process than some 100+ old method. Amazing journey man, keep it up

      guessing hate over EV, I considered a F150 lightning because I don't drive far. During the test drive one fragile man kept beside us shouting shit and rolling coal. He eventually tried to run us off the road, the salesman who was in the car pulled out a gun for the worst 20 minutes i've had in a long time as both people were threatening each other with me in the middle. The cops arrested the other guy and apparently the dealership knew the tow company and it keeps escalating.

      The EV hate is ridiculous. I'm okay with people not liking or agreeing with something, but people have been brainwashed to feel actual hatred towards EVs and EV owners. It's really weird.

      Also, offsets $8k worth of fuel a year replacing the previous gas vehicle. I haven’t figured out exactly what it offsets by keeping the box trucks parked. I have a 12kwh array, 30kwh storage and 18kpv inverter producing a mwh a month. Adding 4kwh of panels next spring.

    My 14yr old son and 12 yr old daughter have an EGO lawn care business in our neighborhood. Between the two of them they have 35 weekly accounts for the last 2 years. I built them an aluminum trailer to pull behind their mountain bike and they are totally self sufficient. They are wrapping up their second full season of mowing here in Texas and the EGO equipment has held up great.

    Keep up the faith in what your doing. I started gardening this year march 23 in the uk. All battery no ride on, using a 6x4 camping trailer, put a tow bar on my car and an inverter In the glove box incase It was needed. Only ever had to plug in to a customers power once in 6 months on a clear up job, with no parking nearby Going to raise the hardtop on the trailer with hardwood ply to give me an extra 18"-24" and add solar and battery into the trailer. Think I'll only need to go with an ecoflow style system. Love the videos and the journey. It ain't stupid if it works. 👍

      @solarpunksteve  11 місяців тому +7

      Thanks! Honestly I’m not sure there’s much I could do to protect it as there’s no grounding rod into the earth, but it *is* basically a faraday cage, just like the car. Not saying it would survive a strike though. I’ve seen boats with all the protection systems money can buy get hit by lightning and it still fries all the electrical equipment inside.

    Relly nice video, Steve. Enjoyed your explanation of what you are trying to do and why you bought what you did. I can fully understand the choice to start with items you can source easily and get parts for ... and are more affordable at the big-box-store than what they sell at the pro shops.
    As for the trailer, while having a ramp door seems convenient for loading your riding mower, it is not nearly as convenient when it comes to loading from a cart or forklift like you did @ 12:07. As long as the ramp is removable, I prefer your setup to the ramp door.

I do like the thought of using the same batteries from their residential lines for their commercial lines. That was what kept me away from some of their "commercial" tools since you couldn't really use them with any of the residential batteries you already had and instead had to have a giant heavy backpack thing to go along with it. In my opinion not practical. Anyway thanks for the heads up!

      @@lawnmowerdude While possible, I doubt it. Some people are just like that. Like when you see a rude comment on a youtube video and everyone piles on that they're just jealous. Not everyone wants to be a content creator and is full of jealous. They're just an ass.

      @@TravelingStacker I would fully believe that guy was just an ass hole. I see lots of them on the road daily. It's the crowd that are completely against owning anything electric and believe that its being "forced" and we are "loosing our rights" and "climate change is a hoax" ETC.

    I enjoyed this video. I am in the industry also running a branch of standard gas equipment and have wanted to put together a crew of all electric - or at least mostly electric. But I don't want to build it. What would you charge to come here and build out my enclosed trailer with EGO and maybe Kress items with the roof of said trailer lined with panels? I have a much larger trailer and it is new.

      Hey that’s awesome you’re considering building out a fully electric rig to expand your offerings! I’d be very happy to talk with you about your idea if you want to send me an email that would be great. Steve@solarpunklawn.com

    Good for you!
    Most of us have large jobs that electric tools simply cannot complete without wasting critical time swapping batteries waiting for tools to cool down and baking hot batteries it's a joke.
    Not to mention the insane battery prices. The fact that the cycles just get shorter over time and as soon as it starts raining the tools start malfunctioning.

    Can I ask how you learned about electrical and solar panel stuff? Were you self taught? I know hardly anything about electrical but I really want to start my own lawn care business in this same way. The thing that intrigues me is how eco friendly all electrical is but I want to know how to get started. Thanks for putting out great content btw! You've gained a new subscriber!

      Self taught! But my previous job was as an Engineer on large private yachts (self taught as well) and have always had an interest in electric/solar/batteries etc. Definitely check out @WillProwse if you want to learn some more about solar/inverter/battery setups and the DIY side of things. As for lawn care, borrow/buy a push mower and offer to start mowing lawns and see how you like it! In the beginning it's not a big deal if it takes you a long time to get a yard done. Good luck and let me know how you do!

    If i recall correctly the MY OEM hitch came with a Tow Package Software upgrade. It seems mechanically your hack works around part of it missing: but do you have issues with sensors or ineffective auto pilot without their tow software?

    Do you find people willing to pay a premium for electric over gas lawncare?

    • @solarpunksteve
      @solarpunksteve  10 місяців тому

      Some do (work from home, retirees, night shift), others are purely concerned with low cost. Most of my clients though have come to me from word-of-mouth and/or they see me showing up at their neighbor's house consistently while their provider... doesn't. So I've had many clients willing to pay more purely based on that fact.
