Thanks for joining me for another video! I have a full list of purchasing links in the video description for HMV/Zavvi/Amazon if you'd like to add any of these films to your own collection. Cheers!
Effusive thanks, Elliot, for your content. I've watched your channel for years now and have benefitted from your recommendations immensely but I never take the time to leave a comment. The bottom line, though, is my collection would suffer greatly without the jumping off points you provide. Wishing you continued creativity and ever increasing success in all your endeavors. Thanks!
The packaging of Ousmane is truly beautiful. It would be a purchase for that alone, but having watched the trailers for all 3 movies, none of them have any appeal what so ever. Dazed and Confused - it must be a nostalgia thing as watching it for the first time last week, I don’t see what the fuss is about? Maybe if you loved it in your teens then it will still be amazing. But for a first time now - it was “ok”.
Hey, im not even really collecting Blu-ray, but i sometimes just play your videos for the athomsphere. Like you were my chilled bri'ish fella 😂 i dont know if thats weird
The Semebene set looks good. One African film I hope will get a UK Criterion release is 'Touki Bouki'. It's supposed to be great but there's no decent UK release as far as I know.
Hi Elliot, love the videos. You mentioned at the start a Barnes and Noble sale next month. Do you know when precisely? I’m going to the US next month so if it’s on while I’m there, a lot of money will be getting spent! 😂
These discs were sent to me so I didn’t have to buy these particular ones, but I do prefer to have the extras on a region B Blu-ray rather than region A for ease of use
A technical question Elliot Why all 4k discs are much darker than their bluray counterparts. I have the criterion release of roaring twenties on 4k and I can see the darkness in its 4k disc Just a question I noticed this darkness in all 22 4k discs that I have . Also you can see the darkness in 4k caps. So is this a problem of mine or 4ks are like that ? Thank you
The darkness you’re speaking of has to do with the 4K technology being able to more accurately define the contrast in an image. This is in comparison to HD tech which generally gives a flatter appearance of an image in regards to contrast. It’s important to check your TV settings when watching a 4K disc, as some TVs will do some weird things and automatically darken a screen when it picks up a 4K signal. Have a play around with your TV settings if every 4K disc you have looks too dark. I hope that helps!
Not at all. Just saying that I’ve heard people not watching Raging Bull because they think it’s doing the same thing as Rocky, when the films are doing totally different things imo. The boxing is the dressing. My comment isn’t a reflection on what I think of Rocky at all! Thanks for watching and commenting by the way!

Thanks for your reply
"Dreams" and "Kagemusha" are just absolutely breathtaking visually.
Yep both stunning! Cheers

I really appreciate the kind words, Mark! Thank you
Richard Linklater is one the best living filmmakers, so many classics under his belt.
His trilogy is glorious!
Completely agree!

Dogfight is amazing (it was a surprise for me too)!
Kurosawa’s the GOAT for me! Fantastic 4k of Dreams!
Yeah it looks brilliant!
So excited for that Sembene set!
I think you’ll enjoy it!
thank you for another great video. So calming and informative. have a nice day.
Thank you so much for the kind words!
The Raging Bull release is great. I actually had the Criterion Laserdisc of Raging Bull decades ago.
Linklater has a great doc on the death penalty- worth checking out.

Hey Reece, I believe it’s on from 28/06 to 28/07 - get some good films while you’re there!
@@ElliotCoen Oh amazing. I will! Going to start constructing my wish list. Thanks Elliot. 👍🙌
Hi Elliot. Question - why would you buy the 4k of Raging Bull again if it is already had the identical US release?
These discs were sent to me so I didn’t have to buy these particular ones, but I do prefer to have the extras on a region B Blu-ray rather than region A for ease of use
@@ElliotCoen thanks Elliot.
I'd like to see Kurosawa's Dersu Uzala in 4k, the blu ray is not very strong.
Would love to see it too!
I'd like to see Criterion's AK 100 box set upgraded to 4K or at least Blu-ray- the set is long sold out and was DVD only.
A technical question Elliot

i'll put a package three revolution films by ousmane sembene in my wishlist/watchlist
Why did you have to replace Raging Bull - content, area code or others?
@@123slem123 i didn’t have to, just a choice. I like to have the special features on the Blu-ray in region b for ease.
Thanks
My pleasure!
Did you just passively dis Rocky? I would like to hear more about our feelings on that.

Seeing that Red 15 circle on the cover of my Criterion cover art would seriously get on my tits.
It’s certainly an annoyance but I’m more than used to after so many years!
