- Greetings all! Today I take a look and react to an iceberg I found on Reddit. This is the Boutique Blu-ray Iceberg. This is the only Iceberg with that theme that exists on the internet, so hopefully this video will inspire someone to take a stab at created a full-on iceberg for the Boutique Blu-ray market.

A few that were missed are;
Unearthed films, blue underground, Canadian international pictures, Circle Collective, Radiance, MVD Rewind.
I really didn't know that the world of bluray collecting was so expansive
Expansive and expensive
Back in the day, the unrated versions of raunchy comedies or horror flicks generally came out on DVD at the same time as the theatrical cut. Lot of discs had both versions.
I've always had plans to make a home video format iceberg. And part of it was the boutique labels too.
Thats not a bad idea
Eureka Masters of Cinema was my favorite from DVD onward.
Radiance Films has become one of my favorite boutique labels.
I can think of a couple boutique distributors that are missing from this "iceberg"--FilmRise (out of New York) Umbrella Entertainment and Via Vision (both out of Australia, but their releases are all Region Free), which distributes the Imprint line...
There used to be a whole section of Criterion Collection titles at Barnes & Noble, but not anymore.
I think there could be some special space in the iceberg for movies that can only be found in p2p file sharing platforms, home-burned to blu-rays because there is no other way to be owned in a blu-ray format. Things like:
- Workprint movie versions (AAA movies with unfinished editing that have leaked, usually missing a ton of CGI effects and have rough edit like the infamous Wolverine workprint out there).
-Open-matte movie versions (AAA movies that have leaked without any letterbox borders and the full framing can be seen throughout, complete edits with effects etc, just ripped/leaked without any black areas top-bottom).
- And fan edits, like the numerous Star Wars fan edit versions.
Error 4444 is a new one that just slaps so hard. Kani and Deaf crocodile are also putting out the obscure gems
love that shot of the Brooklyn Bridge so it looks like the cover of Once upon a time in America, Classic Leone movie.
Don’t forget Umbrella Entertainment and Gaumont! Probably near the bottom as well but they are great.
Toufaan most notably put out that beautiful bluray release of Possession. I think they are related to Mondo Vision.
Bfi should be higher as they are definitely one of the most notable UK companies
Admittedly, I have never heard of Gaumont. Learn something new every day!
I wouldn't call myself a boutiqe collector but I have some, so I was supriced that I have a few movies from the second lowest tier, namely Imprint and 101 Films.
I’m with you re: Criterion Collection. They’re basically the gateway to collecting. Anyway, today I learned I’m solidly a Tier 4 girlie. At least according to this iceberg.
I recently got into manufactured-on-demand Blu-ray’s and noticed all the companies I’m looking at, most of their catalog is Hallmark Christmas movies. I’m curious if anyone knows why that’s a thing. Those movies are widely available.
Thanks for the video! I'm a collector and this iceberg sounded like fun, but tbh it does not make much sense, especially the first tiers.
Plus Mondo Macabro, one of the best Boutique labels for genre films, is completey missing.
The iceberg is really lame TBH, but if another iceberg is created I could react to that one.
well I have been collecting movies on DVD and Blu ray since 2000 with my first DVDs being Blade Runner, Sorcerer and Ghost in the Shell. So now 23 years later. I have about 3K movies and TV shows in my collection 75 percent DVD 25 percent blu ray. however since 2017 about 90 percent of my buys have been blu ray. and when I buy Blu rays , it has to be with an audio commentary, otherwise its probably a DVD. (depends on the price and the movie). So back then in the 2000s , teh main boutique company on the floor was Anchor Bay , the other was image. have lots of anchor bay stuff on DVD. These days the most numerous in my boutique blu ray collection are probably Kino Lorber, followed by Arrow Video, followed by in no order, Severin, Imprint, . Vinegar Syndrome, BFI i dont have much Shout, Criterion, second sight, Eureka, shameless, Twilight time, Cauldron, 101 films, cauldron, fractured visions, Indicator, warner archive,
Wow, I have all of these
Wait, I’m pretty sure mill creek, put out the ultraman stuff
Mill Creek did Ultraman, not Shout Factory. Shout Factory does Power Rangers, Super Sentai and Heisei/Reiwa Kamen Rider
I like to stick with criterion. they consistently make great copies of great films. I dip my feet in kino lorber but thats really all.
W video
If A24 is on here, then so should Troma.
Agreed.
I've never heard of any of the companies in the sixth tier.
"anyways" **claps**
I wish we were friends dude
The only thing that bothers me with all these boutique labels is when they (different labels) release the same titles. I guess the big thing now is releasing Hong Kong action films and you got Eureka, Arrow, 88 films and even Shout Factory putting out titles. Especially the Jackie Chan stuff. I mean it's great to see these classics getting the blu-ray/4K treatment - don't get me wrong, but there's so much other good stuff out there that may not even see the light of day. All those erotic thrillers that dominated the the airwaves on Cinemax (aka Skinamax, heh heh) like "Night Eyes" and "I like to Play Games" and "Mirror Images" 1 & 2! And starred those buxom lasses like Shannon Tweed, Lisa Boyle and Shannon Whirry. You think someone would put some of this stuff out rather than getting a 3rd or 4th release (I'm SLIGHTLY exaggerating) of "Heart of Dragon". I mean if "Hand of Death"(????) can get a special release why can't someone be bothered to release "Roots of Evil" or any of the "Body Chemistry" movies? Ah well...
Type shiii
The background music is overly loud and unnecessary
Noted.
@@OfficialCinematicTrash cool topic for a vid though and I did enjoy it
@@MegaN0ise Appreciate man, constructive criticism is always welcome. A lot of people told people told me the music is too overwhelming, so for the next video I'll be toning it down.
vinigar syndrome / arrow would be #1, scream would be teir 2, and everything else then dead last would be criterion F criterion they are trash
Lol what'd criterion do to you?
Bro hates good movies
