After seeing "Happiness" for the first time last december, wishing that it could get a "boutique blu-ray" release, I'm so so glad the best possible thing happened and is gonna get re-released on Criterion.
I’m sure you heard me screaming with JOY from all the way across the pond, the moment I saw that Criterion was releasing “All of Us Strangers”. It is such a brilliant, powerful, poetic, beautiful film. I’m so glad it’s getting a physical release. It will find a happy home with Criterion.
Glad to see All of Us Strangers getting a 4K release. Cannot remember the last time I shed so many tears. The Long Good Friday is IMO the best British gangster film ever made.
Rumor had it that Criterion was going to release HAPPINESS in the near future, so it's great to get confirmation on that. Shout Factory here in the USA has announced Solondz' STORYTELLING as a pre-order as well. The Criterion Channel has premiered the newly mastered Arrakis trilogy in the US and Canada, and they looked excellent.
In addition to being a really cool movie, and having a slight personal acquaintance with its director, Repo Man is easily among my top 3 favorite cover arts from Criterion.
I'm so happy to see Happiness finally enter the collection! It makes sense because its sequel has been a Criterion release for many years. It's such a disturbing and funny film. I'm a fan of All of Us Strangers as well.
All of Us Strangers getting a boutique 4K release so soon after its theatrical run is very cool. I can assume A24 will have a cool shop exclusive for the likes of Aftersun, Love Lies Bleeding, The Zone of Interest, or I Saw the TV Glow; and Neon usually lets Criterion put out some of their titles after about a year. But a Searchlight title getting a U.S. physical media debut in Criterion? That’s great!
i am really looking forward to this months slate of movies.... Gregg Araki, Ive been a fan of, and strangely I had the soundtracks to Nowhere and The Doom Generation long before i saw the movies because like me, he is a huge shoegaze fan.
Highly recommend checking out All of Us Strangers. Me and my wife watched it recently as part of our podcast series, and we were blown away by it! I contemplated getting the blu ray, but now they've annouced a 4K, I'll go straight for that edition.
If I didn’t recently import the Arrow UK 4K of The Long Good Friday, this month may have been a clean sweep of pickups. Might wait on the Araki box set but pickup everything else.
Really excited about Happiness getting a new release. I was never aware of any blu ray option, but I did buy the expensive DVD (more than $50). There is something strange about how the disc was encoded because when played on a Sony X800 or a Panasonic ub820, it would not upscale and played as an image taking up the center of the screen and nothing else.
2024 is a pretty good year for the criterion. (I feel like) Every month I discover a new good film on their criterion channel and each month's announcement seems interesting to me
This must be the best Criterion month ever, as I'm planning on buying everything, but that new Strangers film. Especially excited about Araki's set, and Solondz' Happiness, which was on my BD wishlist for 18 years! Now I gotta prepare for 3-4 months of nothing, because Criterion cannot be this good and gotta keep their 'ratio' of about 1/12 with me. 😂
The Arrow Long Good Friday disc was released several weeks ago. I have the 4k of it that I bought from the Arrow store (with the orignal artwork slipcover)
I preordered the Long Good Friday from Arrow and received will have to rewatch it soon. Its been one of my favorite British crime films since I saw it in the early 80s.
This is the greatest announcement in criterion history imo. I’m bias because gregg Araki saved my life, but two perviously unreleased blu rays in one month is insane.
Hey 👋 the Criterion 4K disc featuring the film itself will play on any 4K player in the world but any included Blu-ray with special features will be region A locked. Hope that helps!
Just got my Arrow TLGF through the door the other day so will definitely not be getting the Criterion one especially as it would be an import. Really hoping the Araki and Happiness comes to the UK
Lol, I feel like it’s apparent why Happiness hasn’t been unleashed on the public in some time. Can’t say that I’m a fan but I will be curious to see how the next generation of film fans respond to it.
Holy fucking shit-ass-balls, I've been telling Criterion to do the Teen Apocalypse Trilogy for over 10 years! I WILL procure this. NOWHERE has been OOP since the 90s. I am surprised they went with HAPPINESS instead of WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE, but oh well.
But criterion don’t give us that stunning poster that’s in the all of us strangers bluray lol. I streamed it a while back it’s right up there with the directors best work.
The dedication to horrible artwork, is impressive. There is *nothing* about those covers, that would compel an average film watcher to give them a shot. I’m sure people might like it, but to my eyes, it’s almost embarrassing.
Fair enough that you don’t like the artwork but is Criterion trying to market to the average film watcher though? I don’t think so. The sheer number of discs they sell indicates that either people like their choices of artwork or the artwork doesn’t make a difference.
Given that Criterion is an American company, British films probably do constitute as being world cinema 😂 “All of us Strangers” is a fantastic film, but that Criterion cover is awful - it has weird comic book-esque look to it, which feels totally inappropriate (the UK release is using the original poster artwork, which is much more reflective of the kind of film that it is).
@@yournamehere6002 high praise then! I feel like all of that has been said about my favourite filmmakers at some point or another. But hey, it’s differing opinions like this that make film conversations so interesting to me. Cheers!

Nothing like announcing a 4K for All of Us Strangers the literal day that the Blu-ray is released 😭
The Blu-ray gods be cruel with their tricks sometimes 😢

Todd Solondz always bring me a ton of joy, lol.
I'm sure he will not be pleased to hear that, lol.
Glad to see All of Us Strangers getting a 4K release. Cannot remember the last time I shed so many tears. The Long Good Friday is IMO the best British gangster film ever made.
my favorite month in recent memory and it's not even close. such incredible picks
Records a Criterion announcement video wearing an Arrow sweater, what a rogue!
I’m an agent of chaos
All of Us Strangers is a phenomenal film. And it’s an absolute tear jerker.

Finally Happiness out of DVD! A similar feeling to After Hours release.
I'm so happy we are getting a All Of Us Strangers 4k. My film of the year. Loved it.

HAPPINESS!!!!

Is this the first time a sequel (Life During War Time) Was released on Criterion before the prequel (Happiness)? I'm so amped for the Solondz!

Solondz's second film, Storytelling, btw, is quietly being released soon by Shout Factory!
Mysterious Skin needs a Criterion edition. One od the most heartbreaking, daring pieces of cinema I’ve seen in my life.
2024 is a pretty good year for the criterion. (I feel like) Every month I discover a new good film on their criterion channel and each month's announcement seems interesting to me
Mr. Coen, Alex Cox is doing a Kickstarter for his last movie. I thought you might want to check it out.
This must be the best Criterion month ever, as I'm planning on buying everything, but that new Strangers film. Especially excited about Araki's set, and Solondz' Happiness, which was on my BD wishlist for 18 years!

Very much excited to grab Happiness and The Long Good Friday.
Andrew Haigh.. no stranger to the criterion collection i see what you did there Elliot!
I even surprise myself sometimes!
The Long Good Friday YESm Hoskins is incredible in that and also Mona Lisa!!!
The Arrow Long Good Friday disc was released several weeks ago. I have the 4k of it that I bought from the Arrow store (with the orignal artwork slipcover)
I’m way behind then - didn’t even realise it was out!
I preordered the Long Good Friday from Arrow and received will have to rewatch it soon. Its been one of my favorite British crime films since I saw it in the early 80s.
Love that Gregg Araki films are being released.
All of us stranger the best movie of the year and best of this bunch for me
I really hope The Long Good Friday release is available in the UK because if it isn’t….
This is the greatest announcement in criterion history imo. I’m bias because gregg Araki saved my life, but two perviously unreleased blu rays in one month is insane.
Yep an incredible month! Thanks for listening
Repo Man is definitely a classick. A huge fave of mine. Worth it even for the censored/made for TV version as well flipping melon farmer.
a Greg Araki box set is a great thing!
I literally just got Repo Man on Blu-ray last week, you guys are welcome!
We are grateful for your sacrifice 🙏
So, as a UK resident, will the All of Strangers Criterion 4K version not play on my 4K blu ray player?!
Hey 👋 the Criterion 4K disc featuring the film itself will play on any 4K player in the world but any included Blu-ray with special features will be region A locked. Hope that helps!
Better include Wes Anderson Roald Dahl shorts that were released on Netflix last year 😭 please
I’ll most likely get the Arrow version of The Long Good Friday too but I do like the cover art on the Criterion version
Where did you get that awesome arrow video t shirt from?
Lost my shit when I found out about Happiness. So excited.
Now that they are releasing Happiness I’m hoping the do an upgrade of Welcome to the Dollhouse!
Just got my Arrow TLGF through the door the other day so will definitely not be getting the Criterion one especially as it would be an import. Really hoping the Araki and Happiness comes to the UK
Happiness! Yes! Finally in HD! This is a masterpiece.
Is there some culling going on behind you? I can see some gaps 🤔 😉
That’s the plan! In the rearranging state at the moment but some will have to go as I’m at capacity right now!
Lol, I feel like it’s apparent why Happiness hasn’t been unleashed on the public in some time. Can’t say that I’m a fan but I will be curious to see how the next generation of film fans respond to it.
I wonder if the "all in on 4k" thing is because of Criterion's new ownership. Regardless, I think it's the right move.
Plate O’ Shrimp! 🦐

Ok but I still want Badlands.

I've always loved the Happiness animated cover. I'm glad they didn't change it from the original DVD release.

Gregg Araki is a terrible filmmaker whose chief talents are set design and soundtrack songs.
You gotta give me more than that - terrible how exactly?
@@ElliotCoen Badly written--obnoxious characters, ridiculous plots, poor direction
