HELLO FROM NEW YORK CITY, USA! I WATCH SEVERAL NARROWBOAT CHANNELS. I MUST SAY YOU TWO SEEM ONE OF THE BEST SUITED TO THAT LIFESTYLE. MARK BEING A CARPENTER - ENGINEER -PLUMBER - ALL AROUND HANDY MAN IS A REAL ASSET. AND DEB, YOU CAN DRIVE THE BOAT AND ARE NOT AFRAID OT THE RANGE OF TASKS YOU HAVE. (ALTHOUGH SURPRISED YOU DID NOT HAVE SELF LOCKING LATCHES ON THE CUPBOARD OF PANS AND CANS :) ) SO, TWO COMPETENT PEOPLE ON A LONG HOUSE BOAT IS BETTER SUITED THAN MANY OWNERS I HAVE SEEN. AND YOU REALLY SEEM TO GET ALONG WITH EACH OTHER IN THE MODE OF LIFE YOU'VE CHOSEN.
Thanks👍 It does help being able to turn your hand to most tasks. Both being able to handle the boat and operate locks is something I feel important, that way if one crew member has a minor injury the other can do the hard work that day. And you definitely need to enjoy each others company on a 6ft10inch x 60ft steel tube
Lesson learned! Store the alcohol on the ground floor!😄 Short cruise but lots of work to get through all those locks. Gave those pedals a work out. Thanks for sharing!
Good on you for rescuing the goslings,Although geese can be noisy and annoying at times they are part of the whole canal scene we love so much especially those lovely squishy bits*Grin* OHhhh what a disaster with the Sherry...never mind their is a solution ,DRINK ALL Sherry and other unsecured drinks before playing Dodgems with the locks . Epic run of locks Debbie you both must be tired and a nice drink is recommended once all the washing up is done.Stay safe, funny and well ,love your vlogs

I love it when our chicks arrive and you can snuggle them up in you hands and the fall asleep. Take care and stay safe. 👍🙏🏻😁
I have another solution to help solve the breaking sherry bottle problem - "Deb, STOP CRASHING INTO STUFF!!!!" (lolol, she is going to kill me if she ever catches hold of me:) Great job on the locks guys, you were flying, lot's of gongoozlers too, which always adds to the pressure.

The Canucklehead I was devastated I didn’t hit the lock hard but I went over something and the boat listed to the side as I went in 😢 one out of 21 isn’t too bad though ... Is it 😳 A 6’ 10” boat in a 7’ ish lock is no mean feat 😂😂😂😂 thanks for watching Debbie xx
@@deborahhockley7958 You did a great job buddy, when we come over on holiday, I can't even get Joanne to steer down the canal, let alone into a lock lol.
Went up and down that flight 40 years ago. Two of us with windlasses would go on ahead (no bikes :( ) and get the locks ready. I seem to recall it took us a couple of hours, but it may well have been longer!. Well done Mark! As for the sherry...just as well it wasn't the Gin! :D We had a less disastrous event when we struck a bridge and the roast shot out of the oven - fortunately still in roasting tin. Guy who was doing the cooking calmly picks it up (with oven gloves!) and pops it back in..before returning to his pint of Theakston's!
Shame about the sherry but kudos for rescuing the goslings. Weather looks awesome. Not a lot of pointy finger this week but I’ll wait for next week. Take care and stay safe 👆🏻👍😎❤️🇨🇦💕
A friend of mine, who actually got me started watching narrowboat videos, asked if I was watching the one with the woman with the great hair!! She meant you Deb!! She is right! Hahaha!

'The boys' and 'the girls' are off to a good start, Rich and Fran are a bit undecided which way to go and are making Elderflower Cordial, while Michael and Jo are beating their way through impenetrable jungle. Debbie and Mark, that was some effort, 21 locks, glad that is all behind you. Deb, sorry to hear that you broke the grog, that must have been a real shock to your eyes when you stepped down into the cabin and saw all that mess. Oh My! How does that sound? ROFL
Hi. Kirk & Jan, hope you're both well, I'd have rounded it off to 11.5😂. We had a 15 minute tea break as well. Canal planner calculates it as this. G'day Mark & Debbie. Another enjoyable video. You guys did so well with all those locks. Hope Deb gets some replacement sherry soon !!! Pat & Debbie in Christchurch New Zealand.

I do know the pain you went through BAD .BAD .BAD.We holiday every year on the cut.One year we did the hatton flight 21 locks as you know. That goodly day it rained all the way up. So we were glad to see the cafe at top . We had the biggest fry up . That was our bottle of sherry great. Keep up the good vlogs. they keep me calm untill next time. We should have been on the Lancaster this week .ROGER DOVER.
I have links to both Great Haywood and to Stourport, they're both nice places. Lot of canal history at Stourport as it was only a town because of the Canal . I used to teach there . Great Haywood has a special place in my heart as I was born in the village but never lived there. I wonder which one you'll choose ??
Thank you so much for your videos. Living in the states I enjoy the bits of history you add on. Imagine the 1700s. Please stay safe n Happy... I'm sorry about the Sherry disaster. I am fascinated on how you captain your boat through the canals & locks. Could you tell us your thoughts as your moving what are you aiming at when you went under that narrow bridge etc. Cheers, if you ever come to Phoenix. PM we'd be happy to host a dinner.. Cheers. Francine & Barry
Hi Mark and Deb. It sounds like drunk driving to me 😉 😂. I think Mark is going to have to add some more of his top notch security - probably padlocking the cupboards would be a good start 🔒 🔐 🤣 Stay safe both, GWR

Thank you both for bring back some wonderful memories of the Wolverhampton fight the last time we did this flight we had police escort up the flight because there been a mugging on the towpath it was fun having the police doing the locks for us. We do miss our beautiful boat Hampshire Rose 🌹 and living on the canals having so much fun. Sorry you lost bottle of sherry Debbie 🙁 but it could have been worse it could have been bottle of Gin 😂😜. Mark love the bike that keep you fit 😂 well thank you both again for great video really enjoy it you both take care. And we can’t to see which way you went love to you both x❤️
Margaret East hi Margaret yes socks long gone, we remember you both from then you were fitting a new bathroom in then is that right, we are ashore now been here for 3 years because of my health hope you are both alright
We came down the Wolverhampton flight last week and moored at the top like you guys the night before. I took the dogs for a walk in the evening and somebody had opened the downstream paddles on the first five locks and all the pounds were empty, I refilled the first 2 and then I called crt and they sent somebody out to refill the rest as the fish were dying.
Shame about the sherry. I always stick it my cooking and of course check to see if it's ok. Was able to get the boat out since last Tuesday for day trips. Looking forward to being able to get the boat to my new mooring on the Ashby. Will take about 6 days and 30 locks but none on the Ashby. Thanks guys take care. Alan.
I laugh at all your vlogs you certainly have a fun time although losing a bottle of sherry to the floor is no joke, but keep doing what you are doing it's wonderful. Thank you.x
Argh! Damn shame about the sherry. Don’t fancy the stuff myself but my wife was “Oh God, No!” What a nasty cleanup job. And yes, those bloody bottles just disintegrate into the nastiest tiny shards. My sympathies cleaning that up. Apologies for noisy Canada Geese. Aggressive, miserable noise makers. But the goslings are cute and squidgy. 😉 🇨🇦. Cheers from Canada! BTW Mark, the skittles tables are coming along. Have been taking a few pics as I go so I will pm a small collection to you as I get closer to completion.
Dave Rothwell The Canada geese always sound like they are having an argument 😊I’m so glad your wife understands my misery about the the clearing up of the sherry Thankyou for watching and taking the time to comment.Debbie x
Deborah Hockley we love the videos that you and Mark post. It brings us a bit closer to Fiona’s family in Northants. We were supposed to be over the last two weeks of May but, we all know about that little hiccough. You and Mark are such a delight and it’s good that you aren’t afraid to talk about the less glamorous aspects of narrow boat life. When life gets back to a point where we can travel again, we’re bringing a little treat over for you two. A locally made gin that is absolutely brilliant and a hand turned item that Mark can use to open a right fine pint. We will be in touch at that time so we know where to post them. 😁
Well Deck Diaries Hi Mark good job you don’t get breathalysed on canal boats be hard to explain it was from the fumes from the spilt sherry. Nice to see you both out and about again. You both look very well with your tanned looks. Cheers 🥂. Steve
Been catching up on your videos from the beginning since the past few weeks, and I love every episode! Such a lovely couple! By the way, did you know your boat's name is Latvian for "Our House"?
Hello to you both. We have just finished watching your vlogs from your start to the present. Thank you for many hours of entertainment. I am trying to click the bell icon so that we get notifications of your future efforts but there seems to be a problem with it. I get a pop-up UA-cam message 'This action is turned off for content that is made for children'. I don't understand if this is my problem (have I got some setting wrong) or is it something you have got set ? The bell icon seems to work OK on other channels. Keep the vlogs coming & thanks again.
@@anntaylor9524 only other thing I can think of is to click on the Well Deck Diaries part to open my channel page with all the vids on and see if the bell icon work there👍
The bell icon is 'greyed out' i.e. can't be used. I have looked on the internet and found the following page which looks as if it may be part of the problem. www.vg247.com/2020/01/07/youtube-made-kids-restrictions-live/ This seems to apply to individual videos not to the whole channel but the bell icon on your channel (and some others, I have since found) seems to have the restriction applied at channel level. I will investigate further tomorrow, sorry to have troubled you & once again thanks for the vlogs.
Oh, poor Mother Goose! It took her 3 hours to get the goslings out of the water, only to notice that Dad has gone off. She sees him down below and is having quite a row as she is demanding he come up with them as Mrs. Davies will be packing up their dinner and heading home if they don’t get there in 15 minutes and he is cajoling with ‘just a few for minutes, darling, I know a short cut. She mumbles something about his shortening lifespan and goes back into give him a What For when she hears the goslings coming up behind her. So they had 3 crickets and some mosquitoes instead of that lovely bread and jam she was looking forward to. Your husband balanced things out for all the men in the world by riding his bike ahead and behind for 21 locks, though he traversed back and forth to 63. In 4 hours!! I will admit that I don’t do much with sherry unless I am making Sangria. I have Never seen a liter of sherry! What would you do with that much? Drink it? It must be good sherry and not the rot gut I have seen around the Smoky Mountains. Very nice video! Thanks!
Id never actually done the math with the locks but visiting each one 3 times seems like I done a lot more than I realised 😳. The bottle would have lasted a while, Debbie likes a little nightcap of sherry before bedtime. glad you enjoyed the video❤️
You guys are so lucky. I'm heading down that way with the intention of going up the 21. But I'm on my own, Oooer 4 hrs for you will be 6 hours for me. I don't need to rush, but oh my Lord, I'm not looking forward to it. Keep a look out for Alfie if your coming up the S and W. 👍
Wow I can't believe the anti vandalism jobby! Have you come across many of them? I knocked a bottle of Olive Oil off the shelf last week crashing into a wall! Glad it wasn't sherry haha. Great video guys x
Hi Guys👋. we've come across them a few times on different canals. I assume they are fitted on sections of canals that would have a massive impact if paddles were left open deliberately.
I notice that your paint is getting chalked up again. You need to find a quality SEALANT and apply that for longer shine time! Wax bakes off pretty quickly, but a high quality sealant should last at least twice as long. Blue is one of the hardest colors to keep from fading. It has to do with the light spectrum I believe. Great vid as usual! 🇺🇸
I am so sorry, thats I got another wrong in this week video, I will get it right in next weeks end credits. Im going to ask Debbie to check all my home work before I hand it in 🤣
I've never liked those locks - 21 is a sod, maybe its time that R&CT spent a bit of money and put an inclined plane or a caisson wheel ala Falkirk, would make life easier. but as those locks are going through a built up area there's no way of doing it unless they do a major reroute.
Bad luck with the sherry could and has happened to nearly everyone.A lot of people have the child proof catches fitted to the cupboard doors stops them flying open when you catch the side with the boat you might have got away without smashing the bottle if it had not landed on the cans
What a great use for that bike! Saves on all of that walking. LOL Women Drivers. Sorry Deb, couldn't resist that little jab. Looks like your doing a good job though. At least you haven't lost any camera's overboard. How many has that been again??? : ) Keep up the good job! Can't wait to see the next episode.

There's a moral to the bottle of sherry story 😁 Drink it don't save it . Brilliant blog
Good advice👍🍷

Hi guys, enjoyed your video!
Glad you enjoyed it
I do know the pain you went through BAD .BAD .BAD.We holiday every year on the cut.One year we did the hatton flight 21 locks as you know. That goodly day it rained all the way up. So we were glad to see the cafe at top . We had the biggest fry up . That was our bottle of sherry great. Keep up the good vlogs. they keep me calm untill next time. We should have been on the Lancaster this week .ROGER DOVER.
The cafe does a fantastic breakfast👍
Wow! Great driving! Sorry about the Sherry! 21 locks - good to have that bike. Thanks for saving the goslings! Stay safe👍✌️😊🙏🏼🦢🦢🦢
Thanks 👍 T
I have links to both Great Haywood and to Stourport, they're both nice places. Lot of canal history at Stourport as it was only a town because of the Canal . I used to teach there . Great Haywood has a special place in my heart as I was born in the village but never lived there. I wonder which one you'll choose ??
All will be revealed next week
Great video good to see you on the move looking forward to the next video keep safe both 👍
Thanks, will do!
Mmm, just seen your time lapse with Boating Beyond. I think they are on the Shropie so I guess it's hard a starboard at the junction.
Bob Carter Shhhhh 🤫Inspector Clouseau
Thank you so much for your videos. Living in the states I enjoy the bits of history you add on. Imagine the 1700s.
Please stay safe n Happy... I'm sorry about the Sherry disaster.
I am fascinated on how you captain your boat through the canals & locks. Could you tell us your thoughts as your moving what are you aiming at when you went under that narrow bridge etc.
Cheers, if you ever come to Phoenix. PM we'd be happy to host a dinner..
Cheers. Francine & Barry
I'll add Phoenix, to my world wide list of place to go for dinner❤️, thanks Francine
Hi Mark and Deb.
It sounds like drunk driving to me 😉 😂. I think Mark is going to have to add some more of his top notch security - probably padlocking the cupboards would be a good start 🔒 🔐 🤣
Stay safe both, GWR
Ha Ha, I think you've solved the mystery 👍🍷
WOW , that was alot of locks , i bet you were both shattered & the sherry that day hahaha , but you both did well , take care & stay safe , 😉🍹🍹 xx
Thanks 👍, we got quite a good rhythm going which always helps, its always the next day when you ache a bit
Love it, best excuse I've heard in ages. "It wasn't me, hic, it just fell, hic, It went everywhere, hic. I've got to use that one, without a sweet face I'd never get away with it! great laugh, thanks
Ha Ha, you worked it out 🤣
Thanks for starting my Saturday morning! Oh gosh, sorry about the sherry and the mess. Can't wait to see if you turn right or left next week. Baby geese were sweet...glad all ended well with them. Stay safe and thanks for the travels.
We alway sit and have breakfast on Saturday watching a couple of our fav UA-cam channels 👍
What a journey, I was exhausted by lock 8. Where were the dogs during the Sherry incident
Inside, shaking and confused 😩
So glad that we're still helping you and Ann reminisce, we would love to see a photo of Hampshire Rose
Hallo Gerald, how are the socks wearing. We saw Hampshire Rose on the Caldon, on Cruising the Cut vlog. Regards Margaret
Margaret East hello , I am so sorry to to say that I have no memory of you or your socks , I wonder if you could enlighten me
Moored at Aylesbury canal club winter 2014/5 I made you two or three pairs of socks, they are probably long deceased by now.
Margaret East hi Margaret yes socks long gone, we remember you both from then you were fitting a new bathroom in then is that right, we are ashore now been here for 3 years because of my health hope you are both alright
The sherry!!! What a shame, I can imagine what a mess that would have been!
shards of glass stuck to every thing😩. took ages to get cleaned up
Well Deck Diaries What a mess!
Theres some idiots out there, 😩
Shame about the sherry. Alan.
Shouldn't be long hopefully before overnight restrictions are lifted👍
Looks like you got a new bicycle seat..
🤣
We lost a litre bottle of gin last year! Wasn't sticky though and smelt lush for a week! Made the floor lovely and clean, too! 👍😂
We're Sanguine About it Jan it was awful so bloomin sticky I think I would have cried if it was gin xx
I think Debbie would have been in tears if it was the new bottle of gin 🤣
I laugh at all your vlogs you certainly have a fun time although losing a bottle of sherry to the floor is no joke, but keep doing what you are doing it's wonderful. Thank you.x
Glad you enjoyed it
Thankyou so much For watching Anne .Debbie xx
Brilliant look forward to seeing the pics 👍
Smells more like a brewery than usual then. 😂🤣😂. Stay safe and all the best.
just a bit 🤣🍷🍺🥂🥃🍸🍹
Well Deck Diaries Hi Mark good job you don’t get breathalysed on canal boats be hard to explain it was from the fumes from the spilt sherry. Nice to see you both out and about again. You both look very well with your tanned looks. Cheers 🥂. Steve
That’s right I was there for the opening.
🤣😂
Nice video
Thanks
Still here tagging along....that is some locks, was that a ebike?
Good old fashioned pedal power, have been tempted with an Ebike, but I enjoy a little bit of exercise every now and then 🤣
Hey Mark have you been to Huntington Beach per teeshirt? Nice pier there and restaurants overlooking the ocean.
No Trev , we had an American couple ask the same when we met then on the K & A, I've had it about 10 years, got it from Sainsbury's
@@welldeckdiaries5610 I have been there and I don't have the teashirt lol
Hi guys, magnets, can you put stronger ones on cupboards to stop accidents like the one you had, or have you sorted it out?
Thanks Hayden, Ive actually fitted one to that cupboard now 👍
We’ve lost a few plates which was bad enough but quite easy to clear.
👍
Love the lock locks......can they be put on all the the locks throughout the country.......stay safe....xx
I assume they have their reasons for only fitting them to certain flights of locks
Good idea to make the lock cycle with a (bi-)cycle. Keep on vlogging!
Thanks, will do!
I'm assuming when you get CRT license you get all those different keys for lock gates and water points ?
No, you buy them from any inland chandlers
Been catching up on your videos from the beginning since the past few weeks, and I love every episode! Such a lovely couple! By the way, did you know your boat's name is Latvian for "Our House"?
Thanks,
Yes we did know what the name means.
She was named by her original owners
Hello to you both. We have just finished watching your vlogs from your start to the present. Thank you for many hours of entertainment. I am trying to click the bell icon so that we get notifications of your future efforts but there seems to be a problem with it. I get a pop-up UA-cam message 'This action is turned off for content that is made for children'. I don't understand if this is my problem (have I got some setting wrong) or is it something you have got set ? The bell icon seems to work OK on other channels. Keep the vlogs coming & thanks again.
Ive just checked my latest vid and all seems ok with the bell. even got a friend to log in and it was ok. which video did this happen on?
I tried to click the bell after viewing the last vlog.
@@anntaylor9524 only other thing I can think of is to click on the Well Deck Diaries part to open my channel page with all the vids on and see if the bell icon work there👍
The bell icon is 'greyed out' i.e. can't be used. I have looked on the internet and found the following page which looks as if it may be part of the problem.
www.vg247.com/2020/01/07/youtube-made-kids-restrictions-live/
This seems to apply to individual videos not to the whole channel but the bell icon on your channel (and some others, I have since found) seems to have the restriction applied at channel level. I will investigate further tomorrow, sorry to have troubled you & once again thanks for the vlogs.
I have now found this internet page, which may apply.

Just started watching your vlogs can you let me know how I can get to see you from your beginnings please.
Playlist👍
Great to see you on the move again, was you more upset about cleaning the mess up or loosing all that sherry ? hope to see you on the cut some time 👍🥃
Bit of both 🤣😂
Sad that anti-vandal measures are needed. Glad they are provided.
Its kids most of the time, they don't realise the impact their actions have
Oh, poor Mother Goose!
fingers crossed someone will have come down and they'll all be in your favour 🤞
Another top vlog 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Good job. Neat trick using your bike. I like the team work on like and subscribe mention.
Thanks, to me, to you, only the chuckle brothers done it better
You hit the lock side BEFORE you drank the sherry 🤔 it could have been worse it could have been the gin .
Safe cruising .
not the Gin 😱
Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for the shout out but it's Barry and Nan Oliver not Bill & Nan. Thanks. How many cans per mile are you getting now?
Big we fitted child proof catches once then couldn’t work out how to open the cupboard, had to get the kids to do it for us 🤣😂🤣😂 only joking😜
At least it was Debbies's sherry and not my brandy that slipped of the side👍
Nelson Creek Farm I’ll forgive you that little slip of the keyboard keys 🙄😊XX
So no you know, never leave a bottle of sherry half full. Always make sure you drink it all.
I will apply that method to all bottles on the boat this weekend 🤣😂🍷🍸
Hi Mark and Debbie. Call that gentle how would you liked to be chucked 10 foot......Malc.
Sue Epton Malc, I do enjoy a good belly flop 😁
