DS-160 Secrets from a Former Visa Officer

- We get so many questions about the DS-160! This is a super important form that will serve as a base for your visa interview. But, we meet so many clients who overestimate the importance of forms and documents. During our times as Visa Officers, we saw the same thing.
While documents certainly are important, the U.S. visa process relies on the interview portion for a reason. You need to be able to explain your situation in a way that makes sense to the U.S. visa officer. And, that's what we can help you with at Argo!
Not only will we help you with the preparing and practicing for the interview, but also we will help you strategize and plan what documents you should bring + how to present those documents to the Visa Officer. You can book a session with us here: www.argovisa.com/?... - Розваги

Thank you, glad to help
Thank you very much Ben,
Thanks, Ben for the important insights. Please what are your thoughts on the interview waiver option for B1/B2 visas for applicants whose visas have expired for less than 24 months and are still applying for the same category? Is it advantageous choosing the interview waiver or go in person for the interview no matter the fact that you qualify for the interview waiver?
Hi Ben. I got mine denied two days ago. I don't know the reason. I have been watching your great videos and i was very keen and alert. I couldn't belive it
I got a B2 visa (tourism). I aced the DS-160 with detailed answers. I think that might have solidified my case and won me the visa. 😊
Hi! May I ask if you put b2 in visa type alone or b1/b2? Tia

Thanks Ben for the information. However I have an inquiry please. If you are applying for a visit visa to visit a friend, how do you respond to a question like what is the purpose of your travel?

Most important information
Thank you!
Hi Ben,
1. Submitted April 20 2022, approved (step 1) on May 17 2023. I assume we are waiting for the NVC to send us something. Can take around 45 days? After we get word from them, how quickly (i.e. days? weeks?) can we schedule her interview?
2. Will the fact that my income is solely through veterans disability and social security (non taxable) going to be an issue ? I am a military veteran and in medical school (full time).
3. I plan on going with her to her interview, i assume i wait outside?
The VO asked me 4 questions: Why are you going to the USA, Which University? Do you have a family in the USA? Who is you sponsor? After that, rejected my visa. I'm from a Central Asian country called Uzbekistan.
Such a valuable information, Thx for the share
Thank you
Thank you for the feedback!
Do visa officers record the answers you provide when they reject your visa application?
Thanks Ben. Pls I need your advise on this: My husband works in a different state from our home, which makes his address different from mine. Do you advice we will separate address on the ds-160 form or our home address? And when asked reason for our visit to the U. S, can we be honest by saying we are going for vacation to bond well as a family?
Sir, what should be the dressing sense for f1 visa interview...does being formal give more chances of visa or can wear casual dress also.
Do we have to say that we are planning to come back after finishing our high school studies during our f1 visa interview for high school
Sir thanks for information
Thanks!
Hello agro,
In my first and second F1 Visa denial, I didn’t include my previous employment(I thick “No” to the question “were you previously employed”).
Going for my 3rd attempt and would like to if I can thick “Yes” and included my previous employment.
Would the VO think I’m inconsistent?
Hi sir Ben,I am so thankful towards you,I wanna know that if we have submitted the ds160 already and included that I'd on cgi account, and unfortunately we have done some mistake,do we can filled a new D's 160.anf update on a cgi account?
Hey ben thanks for your useful tips. that's fine if I answer the question why us like it's my dream to join us university?
Hello Ben, I have refused in the US embassy in Abu Dhabi for F1 visa. Then, I have filled another DS-160 but, Unfortunately, I didn’t find any appointments available in UAE. So, I decided to change the country of the appointment. Do you recommend to fill a new DS-160 or apply with the one that I filled after the refusal? because I have read that the changing of the country will delay the process and my semester will start after just 20 days
Hi Ben! I’ve already applied for tourist visa with my wife and next week we have the appointment!! She now wants to visit U.S so bad!!! I have already approved my working visa last year and I’ve been very correct with my job and traveling to U.S !Does this affect somehow the VO mindset?? Thnx
In a case where you been granted full scholarship, how to you answer the question “ person/entity pay for your trip?” in your DS160
Hi Ben, so on some of my Highschool Gradesheets my name has a small space and in some documents there's no space. Do I need a court affidavit for it?
I have a question Ben, I had before USA Visa, which already expired 2022. Almost a year back. The thing is I have got my Visa but NEVER traveled into the USA. 2012-2022 a 10 year Visa which I didn't use. Now I would like to renew Visa online. Will that be a problem since I didn't entered the USA before with the Visa I got. Thanks in advance
having a family member /Sponsor in US is negative point or positive ? if purpose is going to meet them.
self finance is more suitable or sponsor ?
Hi Ben. I have a question:
On Form DS 160 there is a question regarding the amount of income. There is also an answer option "does not apply". Can I choose the answer "does not apply" because it is sensitive personal data? even though I have provided complete data about my work
Thanks for the tips Ben. I'd like to know if the US Embassy verifies your US contact details provided in the DS 160
good day ben, could you kindly help me. What can I expect at an interview as someone who is applying with a spouse in the USA? although I am invited from another organization to visit and they are sponsoring the trip?
Hey, what if any applicant travels for leisure in between the DS160 form submission date and the interview date, and as it was not told in DS 160 about that recent travel?
Hi there!
I have 3 previous employments but, cannot add more than 2. How to handle this scenario in case of Dropbox.
Thanks a lot for these amazing helpful videos that you're posting❤. I have a question, if I'm applying for the b1/b2 visa because I'm going to the US to do a Clinical rotation to further strengthen my CV and I am planning on returning to the US if i matched into residency one day (but obviously that would be on a different type of visa) should i then tell the VO that I'm planning on returning to the US again if I matched or should i just tell them that I'm getting this Clinical rotation to help me in my career in my home country? And if I said that there's a possibility for me to return to the US if I matched is that a deal breaker?
Thank you for the feedback and support! You need to be sure your intentions match the requirements of the visa. If the Visa Officer does not think that you will abide by the set guidelines of the visa they will refuse you. We can help you figure out the best way to talk about your plans and goals honestly, while also making sure you communicate things in a way that make sense to the officer. You can book a session with us here: www.argovisa.com/?UA-cam&
Hi,
I have a question. What if I change the employment history but I didn’t fill in in my ds-160 before while I was rejected. And I am thinking to fill in this time. What will you suggest?
Hi Ben, if I notice some errors in an already submitted Ds 160, and I fill and submit a new one, does that affect my approval chances?
Hi, thanks for the guidance but mine is a question. I had a rejection once but I had no travel history then i got a tourist visa for france but I have not yet traveled since the visa is for December and yet my next us visa interview appointment will be in July because my college semester is for fall so do you think it will affect my visa approval or not. Thank you

I want to provide information about my participation in the Access program in Nepal, specifically the two-year English Access Microscholarship Program organized by the US Embassy in Nepal, and my membership in the Nepal-US Alumni Network (NUSAN) on the DS-160 form. Is this good to mention, and if so, how should I mention it?
Thanks for the video,in fact I've a question, it's my 2nd attempt in the embassy and for the first one I've done a crucial mistake but I don't think that the consular officer knew about that in fact in my prior Ds-160 I have noticed that I started my school in 2014 and was over in 2021 but I filled it out but I could do I started in 2014 but I've accomplished it in 2020 is it a mistake if I fix it right now even than I've my transcripts with me and that will be a proof or I have only let this mistakes to retake it?? Thanks for your help

Hi Ben, thanks a million for telling us how important DS-160 is. I joined the Society of Jesus, also known as the Jesuits, after finishing high school. I was a religious for 13 years. I left the Jesuits in 2017. During those 13 years, I was assigned to different places and different work. How do I fill this in my DS-160? Do I indicate myself as a religious from 2006 to 2017 in DS-160? Thank you.
That's a good question for one of our former visa officers. You can book a consultation with us on our website.
Please Mr Argo please tell me about what we do when we use B2 Visa for kids, cause my 5 years kid have an appointment on Jun to visit her brother who is a college student in US. 🙏🏽 say some thing,,,thank you.

I'm at the end of my rope. I'm trying to apply for a VISA to visit the United States via the DS-160 form. However, I have history traveling to the United States, having flown there as an 8 year-old in 1997. The DS-160 form requires me to disclose my previous VISA of travel to the country, but I no longer have the passport nor the VISA (Date of Issue/Number) in question. How do I go about this? Am I basically just going to have to suck it up and never be able to attend every single one of my friend's weddings because of this?
I’m sorry this is coming a bit late sir Ben, my story is a bit complicated I have been to Ghana basically all my schooling and during this period I wasn’t having a passport so they are not stamps on my new passport at the moment but however during my travel to Ghana, I constantly travelled by road and I used my national identification card as a means to identify myself as a minor.
I have my interview coming up by the ending of this month, I will love to know if this will affect my chances of getting the US F1 visa.
And how better I can be able to explain this to the visa officer, thank you in advance.
you should not have booked the interview in Ghana for F1, talking from experience
Hello sir,
I hope you are doing well. Sir, I filled the state information in the answer to the question "Address where you will stay" but when I downloaded the application form, only the street address is mentioned not the state information. So, sir will this be a problem ?
If it affects me when i make mistakes in ds160 and i made many ds to correct my mistakes the more ds i made will affect me or the last one i put it ?
Hello what does it mean (Your case has a date updated right now) on ceac
