Our 2013 Ford Focus S had 1 clutch pack replaced when it was 10 months old. Now we are at 2024, with no gearbox probs for a long time. I have spoken to a friend of mine who is an auto transmission engineer, and he showed me why these sport-matic transmissions give so much trouble, the original transmission shift module was faulty causing the transmission to shift too early causing the clutch-pack to slip.
I've always taught my kids, if you can't afford to buy it, you don't buy it. Finance is NOT an option. Save for it and look after it, whatever it is. It's why so many people havent got a pot to p**s in. House on finance, car on finance, clothes on finance/credit. Best thing for dealers to do is to go back to old fashioned cash. People are getting too aware that they can run a car on finance cheaper than renting one etc. She'll get another one from somewhere else and probably IMHO do the same thing. Finance houses will bend over backwards once they lose dealers.
House on finance lol I think you will find 99% buy their home with a mortgage as for car finance absolutely nothing wrong with it if you use it correctly why would you want to pay full price in cash on a item losing value every day you kids must be staying at home if they can't finance a house yes you get bad and inconsiderate people and cheat the system but she will struggle to get finance if keeps handing car back before her agreement
@@taxidmac5907 lol finance is a generic term covering mortgages etc. When you buy anything on finance you pay a large interest payment. On a car that can be up to a quarter of the value. That money could be used to buy other things or to save for a rainy day. I agree with you, she will find it more difficult perhaps to get finance, but there are so many lenders out there wanting to make profits that I doubt she'll find it that hard.

That car was returned in a disgusting state surely that shows what sort of person she is,you should be able to charge for the damage done and six months wear .
I can feel your frustration. I think the issue is new drivers don't realize cars are expensive and require looking after ,parts needing to be replaced is a question of when not if. garage repair bills are eye watering and it takes them by surprise and typically young new driver don't have much money so they try to wriggle out of their responsibility.
Seems like she either couldn't afford it, couldn't afford the insurance (as she's very obviously a new/rather bad driver!) or just straight up didn't want it, weird choice for a new driver too, shame they left it in such a state it's disgusting
If there is no specific mileage rate chargeable , then most companies agree to use the set local county court rates for mileage claims which used to be 50 pence per mile .
To be fair if i bought a car full retail and 5 months later the clutch failed with a £3k bill recommended by a gearbox specialist i`d reject it as well. At full retail its not upto the lay customer to clear codes all the time.
Have to admit I’m on the verge of contacting my finance company to have my suv taken back. After 3 weeks of ownerships it had to be taken in for over a week for a failed pcv that leaked oil onto the dpf and nearly started a fire. Got it back and a cv joint was crackling. Contacted the dealer and was told they’d order one straight away. Two weeks past and they told me they forgot to order it. Then a coolant system service required warning came up on the dash. They plugged it in, erased the fault and told me the cv joint would be done in two weeks. Light came back on a few days later and now they won’t answer the phone or reply to messages. It’s a two hr drive to them and I’ve had enough of the bs and poor customer service. Ready to throw it back to them now.

At least it did have an existing fault in the end. How people can live with that much rubbish in there when it doesn't take a few seconds to dump bits in a bin on each occaison, I don't know. Especially so when returning on warranty issues.
not defending the customer in any way shape/form but the 197/200's have a known fault of crunching from 2nd into 3rd and 3rd into 4th. I had my gearbox rebuilt a couple of years ago at a cost of £995 inc vat (synchros, clutch, oils and labour)
They have had a Superchips map on it Makes the gearbox go funny at the higher rev limit and also Track use makes them over heat when you pull off if you don’t do a cool down lap
Excellent video once again. I'm no expert but shouldn't there be at least some independent fault verifier or denier involved as an intermediator before the car is returned? That would surely satisfy both parties?

When ppl get bored with a car they start neglecting it then they look for a way out the consumer rights act allows them to do it. Its the honest dealers like yourselves that loose out
Excellent video and it was great to see the outcome. It’s a shame as people just think they can get everything for free, and it’s funny you mention battery. Batteries are extremely important in new cars, more so to ensure everything is running ok. Glad you got it all sorted tho.
With that amount of damage and the length of time they had the vehicle I would suspect it’s been clocked to make it look like they haven’t done many miles so the finance company backs them.
Was thinking the same but he says the oil is OK for the mileage she's done unless they were clever enough to change the oil i don't think she has the nouse to do that
Nice footage for the bank about their customer and her behaviour - and she will for sure watch this video and someone will ask her also cause she will have been telling a complete different story about the car, the seller, and what not. THat is how those girls behave but also get in troubles with their friends who do not like to see such a different view and picture you were able to provide. Here she would have to pay for the usage (months and km and depreciation too), also for every new damage based on the protocol when the car and keys had changed hands and then things get more complicated and quite expensive which will stop those people to continue cause the banks will not play this game twice cause they also loose money if such a contract ends . GOod luck - your video was a recommendation by youtube algorithm - so I subscribed from germany watching british car dealer experiences, I mean small car businesses, not any big one. Just the usual backyard dealer working on his own to survive more or less.
Clutch is a known wear and tear item. Much like the brakes, if it is working when purchased, then 5 months later, the brake pads wear out.... you can't return the car for a refund. I wasn't going to buy my car... but when I saw it had a new timing belt, clutch and DMF £1000+ worth of work for a £1500 car, I bought it on the spot. 120k miles later... clutch is just about slipping when hammering it. You didn't mention invoicing the cost of the missing jack. A genuine Renault part ( so that it fits in the moulded foam ) would certainly be £70- £100 I guess. You should also have a standard administrative charge for V5 replacement, so that the finance comp-any couldn't simply give the straightforward monetary cost from the DVLA for replacing the V5.

I really enjoyed this one, cars are so complicated nowadays it must be a nightmare with ‘finance specialists’ and this crazy 6 month rule. I am going to buy one of the Topdon code readers as garages charge between £60- £100+ to carry out a scan. Regards AJ.
We call them scum bag cars , you can tell the type of person that has had it ,

My Quashqai had a battery problem after 2 years, i had a long run to Scotland went to fill up a d everything went dead. RAC came out and replaced battery as it was only 70% apparently its a common occurrence on Renault/Nissan DSG models
She clearly couldn’t afford the payments on an £8K loan .
My thoughts also👍🏻
Should be a deduction for adding an extra owner on the V5 too
Yep this and this is why the “issue” came from the finance company
Definitely mate !!!!
How many miles did the owner travel?
2000 miles in 7 months and they managed to destroy all 4 wheels?
I would charge them for refurbishing all 4 wheels, the rear trim on the hatch, a full valet and the under bonnet trim. It’s absolutely incredible that they feel entitled to claim they seem to have treated the car like sh*t
independent appraisal report on gearbox from the manufacturer or the AA and if no fault found surely there’s no claim?
I’d be checking that’s not had a milage blocker too
?
Can you change gears with the gear stick, the traditional one in the middle.?
It’s been a learner car them add on mirrors plus cameras are what driving instructors use and all ADI’s lovely learners mega muller the alloys .
Check if the passenger footwell trims have been messed with fitting He Man duals, also any other mirrors suction marks them together suggest driving school 😂
they are actually just useful as blind spot mirrors.
In disputes like this it should be required for an independent report to be done by a mechanic before people are allowed to get out of a finance contract.
Tax was due for renewing I guess and couldn’t afford it.
I would say you could offer a refund minus the cost to repair the damage she has caused at retail price. So 4 wheels, tailgate panel, plus the cost to valet it. She could have cleaned it herself.
She doesn’t care, I sent a car back it would not be dirty and full of crap
There is no such thing as money it's fiat currency.
Love the honesty of your videos. I would definitely buy from you if you had the car I wanted (2017 onwards Merc S350d…Not Black) 😁 Feel for you the way these finance companies just throw cars back at you…keep up the good work 👍
As finances become tighter later this year, wait for the flood of returns.
The gearbox looked lovely to drive. I'm after an Alfa Romeo with DSG box and I found this interesting and informative.
They’re brilliant to drive
That car was returned in a disgusting state surely that shows what sort of person she is,you should be able to charge for the damage done and six months wear .
Why? She just wanted her car back working! Not clean
Exactly consumer rights 🤣@@billymonkey111
8k is a lot of money to spend on a car with knackered clutch and gear box FFS 🤣
Send it back before 6 months or you're gonna be in a hard place.
@@FSFSFSFS532 it’s gone. Was already a hard situation to sort out. We traded a car against it and paid x amount of cash down to lower the repayments, so it was a bit of a mess trying to arrange. Done now. Better car on the drive and we’re happier all round.
Budget tyres on a performance car that’s a rejection straight away.
what about the wheel linkage was that even checked because of all cur-riding what about wheel-alignment, maybe some got destroyed/broken
This is a six speed dual clutch EDC box
The Kerb assassin has truly rained fire on those wheels!
They have had a Superchips map on it
Makes the gearbox go funny at the higher rev limit and also
Track use makes them over heat when you pull off if you don’t do a cool down lap
Both sides will at best have unconscious bias, hence why independent inspection is the only way forward
Excellent video once again. I'm no expert but shouldn't there be at least some independent fault verifier or denier involved as an intermediator before the car is returned? That would surely satisfy both parties?
Iv got a noise coming from my engine and weirdly enough every time I go to my mechanic who’s my mate the issue never happens 😂 so it’s so hard to try get it sorted
People are quick enough to call out a dealer you should have called out the customer, name and shame .
AMT are never as smooth as a normal auto. However that gear box appears sound they will bit rough at low speeds when deciding which gear. My auto gets bit rough when undecided as well.
I don't care what the finance companies are like i would have stood my ground and said how could it have had this issue when it was sold when she's been driving it fine for 5 months without issues.
thats not how the law works genius
When ppl get bored with a car they start neglecting it then they look for a way out the consumer rights act allows them to do it. Its the honest dealers like yourselves that loose out
I wonder if the reversing camera fitter messed with the electrics and that's what led to your electrical gremlins
If my Indicators made that noise i would reject it too (19:56). keep up the good work Joe...
That's his arsehole puckering as he thinks about how much this will cost him
Excellent video and it was great to see the outcome.
Was thinking the same but he says the oil is OK for the mileage she's done unless they were clever enough to change the oil i don't think she has the nouse to do that
Of corse, when you curb one of the wheel, you have to curb the other wheels, too. Otherwise its going to look off, wont it?
I hope youre keeping the deposit.. i wouldnt eat the costs...
That car has been pulled about by someone. Too many warning signs such as no coolant and items under the bonnet disturbed/not refitted correctly.
What does "pulled about" mean? 🤔
@@UnIimited_Power I hadn't heard that expression before but understood immediately what was meant.

Renaults tend to come with yellow coolant from the factory.
It is almost always the battery with these gearbox issues. I’ve had my 66-plate Trophy without any issues at all btw.
Clutch is a known wear and tear item. Much like the brakes, if it is working when purchased, then 5 months later, the brake pads wear out.... you can't return the car for a refund. You buy new brake pads. Or a new clutch. I wasn't going to buy my car... but when I saw it had a new timing belt, clutch and DMF £1000+ worth of work for a £1500 car, I bought it on the spot. 120k miles later... clutch is just about slipping when hammering it. Should I return it to the dealer? 🤣🤣
On an auto or semi-auto the clutch probably isn’t regarded as a wear and tear item in the way it is with a manual.
I have only just seen this but I would take it to a renault dealer and had a software update on the engine and gearbox 95% of the tike there fine.
White car with black wheels. Attracts a certain type of customer 😉
That’s why 250 quid for a 1 year warranty is money well spent. Also sign up to Motor codes
Don’t accept finance buyers ! Those wheels are wrecked . Crazy
90% of buyers are finance and 95% of those finance buyers are probably decent, refuse finance and sales drop substantially, joes a businessman, I’m pretty sure he will agree with me
@@yommonaghan785 Maybe instead refuse people who put down a £300 deposit on a car costing over £8,000. Edit: I'm not poverty shaming, by the way. This is to save people from themselves.
@blueskies666 Paying as much as you can afford to upfront will save you more in the longer term I believe, since you'll have a lower remaining balance and therefore less interest to pay on it. It's negligible regardless, and you make a good point.
Common problem. Most likely needs a new battery.
RS I've had one and had the same issue
I hate to say, your looking for trouble buying an 80k mile plus 10 year old Renault, add Automatic and its suicidal. Certain cars attract certain people. You know PDI,s are irrelevant, it's like giving a health certificate to a marathon runner without knowing his or her Medical history. Same with 997,s well documented engine issues stay away, there are specialist for these.Old Renualts have always been poop in the trade. Unless these cars are from a reputable dealer group at Auction they are trouble. Feel your pain though.
wonder where they picked up their feed for the rear camera? Perhaps they buggered about with the canbus wiring
Too many videos on social media about the customers being able to reject a car within 6 months is not helpful for dealers.
What's the deal with the 6 months thing, I thought 3 months warranty was the legal minimum you have to provide as a dealer/trader?
@@RAW555R 6 months right to reject under the consumer rights act if you can get a report stating that a fault likely existed before sale. Up to 30 days you don't even need a report - just need to show the fault is there. The warranty is largely irrelevant and is really there to protect the seller not the buyer.
@@neilgorin1037 thanks for that
The loose washer bottle and the sagging under bonnet sound deadening perhaps indicates that they had an issue with screen washer jets not working and they pulled everything apart to investigate but did a poor job of reinstalling.
To me the car looks like it has been regularly tracked in their 5 months of ownership.
This. Alloys frilly, sidewalls ruined, gearbox supposedly playing up, brakes smegged, and no coolant. That's been trackday abused.
My car started to send up the engine management light every once and a while and the mechanic wasnt sure at all so i decided to try changing the coil pack whenever i had time off and that cured it,no codes were ever stored on the system pain in the ass i was worried it was a house and didnt want to splash out on the pack
She just didn't want the car anymore or couldn't afford it
Them 1500 jump pack's are amazing. I bought a load of ex London Transport Fiesta diesel's, all had been sitting ages & so flat that they didn't have any dash lights. The Topdom started them all up 😀👍
Expensive 7 months for the 1st time buyer.
Here in Australia, I can get one that has done 77,000klm (48,000 miles) for just under 7,000 pounds as reliability on our roads gets 3 out of 5 stars and is not a huge seller. Also, there are not enough mechanics who will work on one.
You might want to think about taking photos of the wheel and bodywork of the car you sell them if they come back to you.
It’ll be on the sales photos and videos.
