I'm local and was aware of the collision and the road that it happened on. Lady, there was no way at all that your son was driving at 30mph or slower, not that he should have been driving at all without insurance. Even if the Golf did pull out on him, if he were travelling within the speed limit the road is straight enough that he would easily have been able to see it in time to slow down or stop. And then, after being involved in a collision that caused serious injury your wonderful son thought that instead of stopping to make sure the injured driver was ok they thought it would be better to do a runner.
As for the woman who was injured. What's the matter with you? Lot's of people donated their money to you, myself included. At least have the decency to give Joe your documents. Some people have no shame. I honestly despair at the lack of humanity and decency in today's society. It really doesn't pay to help.

Insurance lawyer of 16 years here.
There’s loads of points in this video which you raise but they are too complex to go through in a comments section.
I’m happy to chat through it with you - no charge of course. It could really help you navigate what’s going on.
A few small points are - the police investigation/criminal charges have a much higher burden of proof (beyond reasonable doubt) than a civil standard (balance of probabilities).
It doesn’t really matter if they give you the paperwork. You could do an MID for his insurers and then send them a DPA to them to ascertain their policy details.
Indemnity of all parties and insurers will be important- that’s really complex with a lot of different outcomes.
The issue you may have is proving liability though if the driver of the golf isn’t cooperating.
Anyways, like I say there’s a lot to unpack here. If you want a chat feel free to drop me a message.

He possesses the crime number, so the insurance company can inquire who was driving the car. It wasn't our client; therefore, we're not liable. The requirement for proof of the other party's insurance seems like an attempt to scam him. The law is explicit on this matter: he stated he wasn't driving and provided the details of the actual driver. He doesn't need their insurance details; that's for his insurance company to obtain. Essentially, the insurance company is threatening him with a fraudulent reduction in his no-claims bonus to avoid doing their job.

The mother who contacted you is someone who knows her son is wrong but she will do everything to defend him. This case reminds me of a collision I had. A bike crashed into my car, I didn't ask for their information because the other party appeared to be injured at the time. When I tried to ask for his details after he was discharged from hospital, he would refuse to give me any information. I took him to court and his mum represented him and stood by his lies. I eventually won my case because the sheriff saw his actions afterwards didn't stack up if he wasn't in the wrong. Keep your head high. Fleeing the scene won't do the other party any favours and will come back and bite him once he's in court.

Issue a pre claim form to the selfish couple. Ultimately they are responsible for returning that vehicle to you in the same state they received it. Thats basic consumer law. As it stands they did not do so. They mislead you into believing they were insured. You can legally and lawfully issue a county court claim against them for any costs incured as a result of the vehicle not been returned in approximate condition. Give them a 14 day pre court notice. You cannot let them get away with it because other unscrupulous people may watch your video and do it to another dealer. You really ought to make a point of this. Will make bloody good viewing too. PS.. Also report the woman to the police as she was also driving without insurance. She would need to prove otherwise. You dont realise what such a strong position your in.

I work in insurance, a pretty standard policy wording states the driving other cars extension only covers people to drive a PRIVATELY OWNED vehicle not belonging to themselves. It is there for emergencies, not to do test drives, bring a car home from purchase, insure a courtesy vehicle etc etc. unless their insurer has not included the phrase "privately owned" in their wording I don't think your client is covered. However, if the accident is deemed as the fault of the other party you will get your NCD back when they settle. One other thing that's important for readers to be aware of, driving other cars only covers the policyholder NOT any named drivers on the policy, so if unless their policy was either in the lady's name or she was a joint policy holder again there would be no cover.

Jermain befriended this kid (Bradley Lowery) and it was a wonderful thing to behold. Sadly, Bradley died, but not before he had the entire stadium chanting his name as he was escorted onto the pitch at the side of his footballing hero. Jermain visited him and his family regularly and is still in contact with the family to this day.

It could be that they did not have any insurance at the time of the accident, or that it was in his name only. Good deeds can bite you. I was an After Sales Manager at a car dealership. Lady complained her electric aerial was stuck, could not afford a new one, we said well try to lubricated and at least get it extended. It would not move. She was a bit annoyed when she collected the car. Despite being out of warranty, the following day the manufacturers customer services contacted me, she had told them we had broken her aerial during the service, claimed there was nothing wrong with it when it came in. They paid for a new aerial and we had to fit it for free.

Forgive me for saying this, but as a UK police officer in my honest opinion - if you suffer with anxiety and depression so badly that it would cause you to leave the scene of a serious accident, then I do not feel that you deserve to hold a license.
The fact she went to the police about your assumptions does not surprise me. We used to get complaints like this all the time "This lady has been slandering me on instagram, i'm an instagram influencer and they're ruining my career and business"... usual stuff and extremely common. Entirely a civil matter and not a criminal one thus not something any police force, whether they like it or not, can deal with. If they are that concerned it would need to go down a civil claims route however in most cases for "damages" to be awarded they need to be able to demonstrate a "loss" or serious damage to their reputation, in any case this needs to be demonstrated in civil claims court and for them to award a monetary settlement order this needs to be quantified... this is usually done by showing proof of lost income. For example a builder has 5 customers lined up for work, has messages and invoices/estimates produced for work to be done. A previous customer out of spite leaves a bad review and the builder then receives communication from these 5 prospective customers clearly showing that they have decided not to use him on the basis of the spiteful review. This has caused him a DIRECT loss, and more importantly, the loss can be quantified and a value is known, because there is a monetary value to the work, in that the job might be priced at, for instance, labour of £2,500... therefore the loss "for labour" is £2,500 for instance. The court could then decide to award damages totalling the amounts shown.
In her case, there is no "loss" to her son and he's an average person not some famous celebrity, no long term impact on his "career" if any, he hasn't been named in full either as I understand, so quite simply there is no case to answer.
Also a lot of times people "do a runner" from vehicles after collisions is usually that they're either not insured, drunk or otherwise intoxicated from drugs, or have a car full of weapons or drugs.
I went to one last year which involved two teenagers running from a crashed vehicle on a busy road, only to return around a minute later, remove a large "bag" from the boot before running off again. The husband of the female driving the car they hit, stated it "reeked of Cannabis"...
Insurance is a general ballache on the whole - I had my PARKED car struck 15 months ago whilst I was asleep in bed after a nightshift. The driver who hit my car was a third party agency worker delivering on behalf of Amazon. He actually delivered to my address 90 seconds after hitting my car and parking up the road. The driver then places the parcel on my doorstep, does NOT ring the doorbell OR knock. He crosses the road, delivers to the neighbour opposite and rings the bell... what a surprise.
Unfortunately any CCTV was side on, so no reg captured. I later located the same van with some damage that would correspond and saw the same chap delivering - this time having parked his van around the corner from the road he was delivering to.. coincidence? I think not.
I was able to obtain the reg when I saw it parked the day after the collision, but this was only speculative and not conclusive evidence that it was the same vehicle that struck my parked car, and no details were exchanged and the chap drove off.
Net result - new suspension unit, new track/tie rods, new steering column and steering rack, all needing to be coded in (BMW), insurers estimated the repair bill to be around £3,500 to £4,000, the car was in the garage almost a MONTH.
What made it worse? As the chap was never identified and no reg was captured on CCTV - the insurers put the accident claim down as "at fault" for myself.... despite the fact I was asleep in bed when my parked car was struck. My insurance went from £1,750 to £4,450 after 11 years clean license and pass plus exceeded grade.
15 months on and i'm currently in the process of attempting to reclaim my excess of £550 from a motoring legal firm, which I thankfully paid the additional £24.99 for when I took out the previous policy.... it's been 3 months since I submitted the claim to the legal firm and not a word. I'm doubtful i'll get anything at all back.
    Need I say anymore...

This is the reason why I removed demonstration cover from my policy,I won’t even let people test drive a car I’ll take them for a drive because if they crash I would be on the hook for it and they can walk away Scott free and doesn’t cost them a penny,I also don’t lend out cars. The only way you can cover this in the future is to have a dedicated car used as a loan car insured independently from your trade policy for any driver over the age of 25 and charge a fee of £10/20 a day to cover insurance
