Love the M5, because it's understated, without the chavvy blacked out everything, and fakeness, of the Audi. BMW has better quality, better seats, better driving position, and is a much better car dynamically. Now owned both (currently in RS6). Agree with everything Joe says. I find the RS6 a much better family car - mainly because of its ability to be very smooth and quiet. The cabin is also sharper looking and, with the sunroof, much airier. The M5 is a beast, and definitely quicker/sharper but you have to put up with that all the time when, in my experience, a 4/5 door 2-tonne family car needs a broader set of skills most of the time. Loved both, heart says M5, head says RS6. And yes, the RS6 is the best looking 😉
Great video Joe, as an Audi fan man thank you. I think when Audi release their “Performance” range, it will be very interesting to revisit the two cars as they will be more aligned going head to head. Cheers!

Great video Joe. I have owned both brands at this level and lean toward BMW, The worry is the new M5 is too harsh and that could swing it for the Audi. Always enjoy you videos, very insightful and objective. Nice camera work as well BTW.
I really love your review which is so well considered and thought out. Surprise, surprise, I am a BMW fan, but I love the Audi RS6, not just because it's a wagon, but definitely because it has a panoramic glass roof, which to my knowledge, you can't spec on a BMW M5. Besides, I would be the guy enjoying blasts down the country road rather than ever going to a track, which is perhaps where the BMW M models are damned near unbeatable. Great video, Joe!
Thanks Joe for another brilliant video. As a 2020 BMW M5 Comp driver I am of course pleased you chose the BMW over the Audi. I've not driven an Audi RS6 myself, so I wouldn't be able to comment on which is better in my eyes - but thats of course why we are all watching your videos! When I was researching my next car I did approach my local Audi dealership for a test drive of an RS6, however they were far from helpful than my BMW dealership. I was told that I couldn't have a test drive unless I only drove on B roads, had a salesman in the car next to me, plus they mentioned no more than 30 minutes in the car! BWM on the other hand lent me an M5 Comp for the weekend! I do think that even the initial contact by a car dealership goes towards you making that all important decision, and I do believe that this was why I chose the M5.
For me it would have to be the RS6 as I need the extra practicality and it looks simply awesome. Infotainment differences are largely down to investing the time in getting to know the systems in depth but tbh I do not spend much time fiddling with them on the move in any case. Performance difference is not going to matter unless you are Matt Watson. I agree with your conclusion though, M5 comp would probably provide more pleasure in driving whereas the RS6 would provide more pleasure in ownership.
Love your work, Joe! So now that you have established M5 still being the King - something all of us BMW fan boys wanted to hear - what’s your take on M5 Comp vs. AMG E63S?
Its not even a comparison M5 comp is the fastest 4 door, the rs6 had no chance for speed. But the RS6 is a bit more comfortable and more practical. They are both really technological. For me id take a pre lci M5 comp, fastest, hard and great looking. But its all depending on what you want. Exterior id take the RS6 it looks like a beast, interior id take the m5 I think it looks more luxurious and classy and I know BMW use better materials. If you want the ultimate performence 4 door M5 comp, if you dont care about speed thar much and want comfort, rs6. Speed and less comfort, m5.
@Maverick Fastest Taycan time ive seen is 10.8 and fastest m5 comp time ive seen is 10.8. Also sure a flying spur has like a 5-10 km/h higher top speed but everybody knows nobody bases cars speed on top speed, unless your 12.
@Maverick Again top speed is least important. M5 has a 0.6 second faster quarter mile and lets not talk about a track🤣. Also if top speed is so important then the Taycan is a slow poke only 155mph and also slower on a track. Ofc those are limitations of battery power and their weight for track but still true. Edit: and thats the bentlys flying spur top speed unlimited. While the 190mph is still limited by bmw even with the M drivers package. The alphina b5 with no modifications has a top speed of 205mph, and thats heavier, less powerful, and has more drag then an M5 competition. So....
What is very hard here is that I really like the wheel arches flare ... which BMW used to have up to E60/E90, but now they are pretty much gone, while Audi have continued them. On the flip side those arches does impact the drag, and you see that in how thirsty these cars are (10.5L/100km for M5 vs 11.6L/100km for RS6). Now, as a owner you might not care about that 10% less consumption, and both have large tanks so range is not a problem ... but BMW/Audi/MB ALL have to keep lowering consumption, and it just seems like BMW is more serious about trying to do so (at the cost of looks). Yeah the touch screen is for standing still only ... that include a passenger. You need other way to input stuff. BMW is faster across the register (25.2s 0-280km/h vs 28.8s), so that 0.3 0-60 keep building (I also think BMW underestimate their engine a bit more than Audi does). fastestlaps.com/comparisons/8r13m4f0vkmd Yeah the M5 CP is stiff, I do like the 'feel' as to me the stiffness give more confidence ... but as a limo the RS6 is most likely a better car (constant cruising on a highway) ... but if that's what you are after ... S8 and 750 is the way to go anyhow. M5 CP - 95% E63s - 93% RS6 - 91%
When you first pulled away the Audi sounded like a Muscle car with the bypass cutouts engaged!!! What a rumble i heard through my earphones but Joe a very honest review as we have become accustomed to. Lovely agreeive looks to it and practical as you said but you will need adequate Conkers to own one or a very sympathetic credit dealer!!!
Great video bud. I would have to go for the RS6, looks so good and much practical for the kids/dog, but I would just hate all the touchscreen futuristic styling. Luckily I don’t have a spare £100k to drop on a car so won’t ever have to make the choice 😂
Owned BMWs and AUDIs... Both excellent brands but Audi has the edge on design and interior quality! Power and handling is kinda even on the top end models IMO!. We choose our champions and pay our money but both are excellent driving experiences. 👏🏼👏🏼
I’ve been a BMW owner/driver for over 25 years. I know how good the M5 is, but in this instance I’d choose the RS6. It looks superb and so nicely put together. If BMW made an M5 Touring?
used to be a big Audi fan, not a BMW fan, never liked the driving position (5ft 9in), saying that I have driven a Mercedes Brabus Vito (V32) the past 4 years, been thinking about a change, perhaps its time to re-visit the Audi range, great video.
RS6 for me. Looks way better, better built, performance difference is negligible and its a Jekyll and Hyde- sometimes you just want to cruise in comfort. Its got it all. (I have an S5 2017 at the moment and absolutely love it. No touch screens either!)
A lot of folks that buy the RS6 are not even in the market for an estate car. It just looks like an animal from every angle. I'm also a BM fan, but the M5 does fly under the radar as far as looks go.
I agree with everything you have said between the two cars and in a way it’s better that they aren’t as close to each other that way it gives you more reason to buy one over the other for different uses
Owning a car like this is about emotion and not so much facts ... IMHO. The RS6 (for me) is a more special car than the M5C, and then it looks better and is easier to live with ride/boot etc. No contest for me. Great review Joe.
Brilliant review Joe, but I personally I would take the RS6, 95% of the m5 thrills but more practical and a better ride, but I'm dreaming couldn't afford either, Bravo
In test driving an Audi TT, RS3, and S3 I always ended up purchasing a BMW (most recently LBB M2 Comp w DCT) for many of the same reasons that are stated in this comparison. The Audi interior looks better but the BMW’s is more comfortable and the tech is easier to use. Same thing when comparing the drive. Sure an RS3 is super quick but an M2 Comp just feels sharper and more engaging. Both great cars but for my taste, BMW every time.
That is the M5, and has been for a long time, though it's not say the rs6 isn't an absolute beast. Their touch screen is a nightmare, we have an a7 in the family.
@@DeeDeeDanone like what was said the Audi suffers from an easy fix it’s ECU engine tune is heavily Euro regulated but with a simple modification turns the Audi into a different car... ua-cam.com/video/m8MQTE5uOoU/v-deo.html
I am an Audi fan in general but you are right...form over function. I love technology but in a car it should be user friendly and the touch screen is really taking your attention off the road...sometimes is even annoying to operate...better to keep some buttons, especially the climate control.
I go by the looks. I know they both perform well. And ive never been an audi guy, but i like these wagons. M5 is for sure in my garage, thats my trophy. But i cant let this audi go, so bravo for making a good handling and fast car look great. Im buying this one, too, and i win even if i lose ;).

Absolutely brilliant review. Joe is getting better and better.
This would be a really difficult choice :O
I know! what colour would you get the RS6 in then?

5 star channel!!! Two amazing cars and the best person to review them, thanks Joe
Joe, a trick to get around the soft limiter is if you set the car up to launch it then you should be able to rev it freely to do better sound checks.
Love your work, Joe! So now that you have established M5 still being the King - something all of us BMW fan boys wanted to hear - what’s your take on M5 Comp vs. AMG E63S?
I've typically preferred Audi's aesthetics and BMW's performance... But Audi's new RS sedans are the total package
@Maverick Maybe so.... but fine petrol 4 door.
So....
@Maverick XE project 8 is about as fast as an M5 comp gt63s is a bit slower. Also again look what I said about the alphinas top speed.
This was a question I guess we've all been waiting the answer to isn't it? excellent take Joe!
After seeing both in person I would go with the Audi it's a lot more stunning in person than it is in pictures.

Yeah the M5 CP is stiff, I do like the 'feel' as to me the stiffness give more confidence ... but as a limo the RS6 is most likely a better car (constant cruising on a highway) ... but if that's what you are after ... S8 and 750 is the way to go anyhow.
M5 CP - 95%
E63s - 93%
RS6 - 91%
Loving the 4K Joe, great work!
Thanks James 👌
M5 comp obviously
🤣 Very valid points buddy 👌 Glad you enjoyed it ♥️
Both are stunning machines but I'd probably take rs6. Especially in that blue colour
I wouldn't mind having either one but m5 comp for me ultimate drivers car the audi rs6 v10 bk in the day was an absolutel monster tho
8:14 interesting theory about Audi "engineering" their emissions stats (again).
I know the Audi ZF8 is sluggish when compared to BMW ZF8.
used to be a big Audi fan, not a BMW fan, never liked the driving position (5ft 9in), saying that I have driven a Mercedes Brabus Vito (V32) the past 4 years, been thinking about a change, perhaps its time to re-visit the Audi range, great video.
RS6 for me. Looks way better, better built, performance difference is negligible and its a Jekyll and Hyde- sometimes you just want to cruise in comfort. Its got it all. (I have an S5 2017 at the moment and absolutely love it. No touch screens either!)
Audi for me any day
A lot of folks that buy the RS6 are not even in the market for an estate car. It just looks like an animal from every angle. I'm also a BM fan, but the M5 does fly under the radar as far as looks go.
Wow Joe, the Audi RS 6 - the only estate that can make a Ferrari owner look twice! Excellent video, great presentation and Merry Christmas Everyone! 🎁
I agree with everything you have said between the two cars and in a way it’s better that they aren’t as close to each other that way it gives you more reason to buy one over the other for different uses
Im a BMW fan too, but I would def get a RS6. As a hatchback owner, RS6 suits me better for my everyday driving experience.
Let’s be honest. Whichever you decided to pick out the two, you are not going to regret it. Both pretty epic cars to be fair.
My two current favorite cars going at it? Thanks Joe!
Both cracking cars, but for me the RS6 is absolute class...stunning all rounder 👌
Owning a car like this is about emotion and not so much facts ... IMHO. The RS6 (for me) is a more special car than the M5C, and then it looks better and is easier to live with ride/boot etc. No contest for me. Great review Joe.
I'd buy the 2020 Audi RS6-R by ABT and then i would put a milltek exhaust on it. The car just looks BRUTAL in comparison to the M5.
I’ve seen you on car wow before never watched your videos, I like them there’s a lot of info well done joe 👍🏻😃
Brilliant review Joe, but I personally I would take the RS6, 95% of the m5 thrills but more practical and a better ride, but I'm dreaming couldn't afford either,
Bravo
I think Audi are killing it with the styling in recent years.
Great vid. Probably best camera action and editing yet mate. Epic.
Joe is good, I was a bit scared of him, but he's a good guy.
The best all round car in the world the Audi RS6
E63s wagon.
It's the ride comfort that does it for me. Who wouldn't want to live with the RS6 daily.
I am an Audi fan in general but you are right...form over function. I love technology but in a car it should be user friendly and the touch screen is really taking your attention off the road...sometimes is even annoying to operate...better to keep some buttons, especially the climate control.
Using the same roads as Harry Metcalf? Great video. I wish I had to choose between the two.
Great video Joe, and very well balanced. I love the spec of that particular RS6 as well. Also loved some of the B-roll, made it look like a proper professional production 👍
Wish you got one on your channel
@@Birmingham_racing Problem is, I just don't think it'd get the views
Another superb review Joe!....Thank you for all your fantastic content....
An excellent and well-balanced review of two quite outstanding vehicles. Great effort, Mr. Achilles.
