Honestly, I have changed, I certainly don't have £80k for any car sadly! The C7 being cheap is simply relative to the C8 at £115k as tested. Even allowing for inflation that's quite a jump and my point was imagine what Audi could do with an extra £2k budget for the interior, apart from the design, that's the biggest tangible difference over C7
I did wonder about the price-tag on the C8. I didn't imagine it would be 115k! I take your point that Audi could do a lot with just a fraction of that extra 35k.

Great review as always Andrew. I've watched you from years back and your content is exactly what I'm after. No fuss. No ego. Thanks for all your hard work.
Andrew a brilliant video as ever I am sorry this is late I missed it for some reason! I love the colour of the c8 but I much prefer the design and look of yours the c7 it looks a quality car and flowing lines as well it looks elegant some parts of the c8 don’t work for me styling wise and the interior looks much better made and quality on the c7 like some other VAG cars it seems lower quality on newer models It’s a good comparison between the two and I’d love one if I had the money keep up the hard work!
Thanks ever so much Daniel. Don't worry about being late, every view means a lot no matter when it takes place. I actually think interior of C8 is very impressive, material quality seems high, how well it will age is hard to tell though, piano black has a reputation for tarnishing quickly so I hope it's superior to the VW and Seat stuff! C7 does have an old school solidity to it and has passed the ageing test with flying colours! Check out the new video on living with the C8 for 5 days, it's so easy to live with apart from a couple of minor issues.
Seenthroughglass experience with the c8 was interesting, said he gets significantly better fuel economy out of his f type, which is quite funny. Probably because the rs6 is so heavy.
It’s a lot more car than an F type, my biggest concern is that it’s not much better, possibly worse than my C7. Petrol engines have always improved the newer they are but not this time, even with mild hybrid. Unfortunate with fuel prices so much higher than when c8 was launched
@@volkswizard yeah true, it also calls into question how much better turbo charging is for fuel economy, as I've heard a few times now about the jlr 5.0 supercharged v8 achieving surprising fuel economy.
@@Maurice_Moss I wonder the same, I bought the VW Arteon R in February, the fastback one not the shooting brake. It's only a 2ltr and I think the fuel economy is dreadful. I have now covered over 13, 000 miles most of it motorway driving. The most I have got on a good run was from Hemel Hempstead to Crawley one day early hours of the morning in the summer so I hit no traffic at all, steady 70mph in eco mode was 34mpg. If I drive between 40-50mph on shorter rounds around Hertfordshire it will get upto 36mpg. However general day to day commuting, which includes a mixture of motorway, dual carriageway and town, I struggle to get 30mpg most of the time it's around 23-26mpg, all the above figures are in in ECO mode. If I drive in normal mode or if I have my wife and kids in the car the economy drops by 2-4mpg less than the above figures.
The update has a checklist of things that it changes and you need to make sure BOSE amp is not one of them. That's stated pretty clearly by the guy in the video and when I did the update, BOSE was already unchecked
The old one will age better on the interior....that piano black will get scratched to hell as prob will the screens. Also dial n clocks are timeless but digital displays age or look outdated...thats why your hyper and high prestige cars dont have all digital dash screens. Also buttons n dial add some class
@@volkswizard did it have any scratches on the piano black surfaces? Also as an older driver you must also see the value of buttons and dials....also alcantara wheel looks good untill it wears out....give me the old one, i feel it caters for a wider audience... esp age wise...
...but, are they really fun to drive Andrew? i am always drawn to RS models but worry that they aren't all that exciting? i don't want to be thrown into a hedge either. i had a b9 s4 avant and went to an s3 8v...so disappointed. drove a b7 rs4...loved the sound but man was it crashy, too harsh a ride for me. not sure what's going to keep me in the vag group right now. any thoughts?
That's a good question. It's funny but a car that's handful can be more enjoyable than something that's too easy so compared to a Golf R I'd say they are enjoyable. And whilst they are inevitably prone to understeer, the drive from the rear axle with the sport diff will mitigate most of that, on track I suspect it's a different story. The only real issue is the width, it's all fine if drivers coming the opposite way say on their side of the white line but as I am sure you know it's not always the case. How about RS3? Last of the 8V is a great package if specced right. Was the B7 RS4 on standard suspension as the DRC system was meant to keep them poised but comfy? B7 S4 without it is rock hard by comparison
@@volkswizard RS products always make my head turn and generally all my vag cars have been reliable and a nice place to live. i have considered m3/4 or c63 but my wife is totally against the bmw's due to perceived unreliability. a v8 i want in my life, it's just what car will i wrap around a lovely engine. i honestly don't know what suspension the b7 RS4 was on...the engine was superb and i felt i could definitely live with that. maybe i should try out another one to compare against. the rs3 is another car on the horizon. i am going to research possible rs6 and rs4...with a sports diff. a little push from the rear is better than a tankslapper into the nearest hedgerow, particularly of those non-competition pack bmw's. are we going to see more of your RS6 on the channel now? thanks Andrew :)
Prefer the C7 definitely! That back view on the blue c8 does look nice but the triangular front bits I think look crap in comparison. I once was lucky to drive a C5 rs6 avant many many years ago. RS6 an all time classic IMO. Subjective, love that blue. 👍 (Saw this vid pop up earlier, clicked on it to watch, said private video then disappeared. Andrew not happy with something I thought 🤔😁).
I love both of these cars but if I had the c7 I wouldn't be in a rush to buy the c8. Not putting the c8 down it's just that the c7 is that good there's not much more you can ask for especially considering the price

Brilliant video Andrew and C7 a great buy as clearly can cope with many miles under its belt. C8 I do like in blue and nicely optioned however hardly a stealth machine - I rewatched your A6 Avant launch video and even as a 40 TDI it looks great ❤
Thanks Malcolm as ever! The A6 Avant drove really nicely, the S6 TDI I drove to Germany was incredible but the street cred of RS6 is hard to beat (mpg however is quiet easy to beat 😂)
Why th should it be stealth if it's an RS? This is what's wrong with Audi all these years, you hardly recognize an ordinary model to an RS. This is why people are calling them bland. If it's an RS then let it scream RS
Thanks Ramo84! Bizarrely that upgrade is FOC, just watch the video. I thought it was a scam but lots of happy customers in comments and it worked - download server is very slow though, took many hours and I am on a good broadband. Plus SD card needs to be 16GB min 32GB max for FAT32 format and the downloaded file is a 7Zip compressed archive. It needs to be extracted and the contents need to be taken out of the 2 higher level folders so the MMI will acknowledge the upgrade - all easy but 7GB file so quite cumbersome to cut and paste but worth it. ua-cam.com/video/VS21Lyess7o/v-deo.html

I just got a C7.5 and whilst it does feel pretty ancient inside these days compared to newer cars, the space and the pace are still totally worth it. The MPG is not though... that should be illegal haha! The funny thing is that I came from the same model year RS3 and the RS3 felt years ahead.... but there's always ups and down to any car you get.
C7 was a few years earlier than 8V RS3 and in those few years things move on a lot when it came to interiors and the 7.5 facelift didn't really do much to improve things inside. It does feel ancient and the door trim tops are pretty nasty but overall it has an old school feel of solidity which I don't think C8 has got (though C8 is still very good). Great car, and enjoy! PS I am 99% sure C7.5 is way better on fuel than C8 thought maybe not RS3 :)

I live in Ireland and drive the c7.5 RS7. Badges still on it. It's an extremely rare car hear. There is one other c8 that I know of and that is basically it in the whole of Ireland. I'm not hating, just talking. I appreciate the response.
2022 C8 at 2100kg? That's just nuts. Did you really say the C7 was a cheap car at 80 grand? (Yes!) Andrew, you've changed...
Does the C8 RS6 have the new European speed limiter built in seeing as it's 72reg and that rule came about from July 6th.
No that I've noticed, it seems refreshing relaxed with the Driver 'Assistance" stuff, doesn't even have radar cruise control
@@volkswizard thanks for the reply, that's interesting as I was hearing alot of the EU speed limiters and I was thinking when they bring that in what's the point of owning cars like the RS6 and the likes.
Beautiful car but here in the states they start at $131,000 which is a chunk of money, I guess for those that make a half million a year.
1st generation immigrant in Germany. Barely bought 2008 Golf for 3200€, so this question I trully find redundant.🤣🤣🤣 Nice video regardles.😅
Great review as always Andrew. I've watched you from years back and your content is exactly what I'm after. No fuss. No ego. Thanks for all your hard work.
Wow thanks R'n'R and thanks for sticking with the channel all that time - it is much appreicated 👍👍
Andrew a brilliant video as ever I am sorry this is late I missed it for some reason! I love the colour of the c8 but I much prefer the design and look of yours the c7 it looks a quality car and flowing lines as well it looks elegant some parts of the c8 don’t work for me styling wise and the interior looks much better made and quality on the c7 like some other VAG cars it seems lower quality on newer models
It’s a good comparison between the two and I’d love one if I had the money keep up the hard work!
Anyone has issues with the Bose sound system after updating car play it mentions Bose amplifier not sure what it means. Cheers 👍
The update has a checklist of things that it changes and you need to make sure BOSE amp is not one of them. That's stated pretty clearly by the guy in the video and when I did the update, BOSE was already unchecked
Great comparison. 2016 C7.5 RS7 owner here.
Thanks Greg! I am sure most of the things apply to RS7s too, much rarer in both C8 and C7 guise
Do you have spider web on the rear view mirror in the C7?
That could have been cleaned out.
Yep, I don't lookk above the dash when I'm in a rush to clean a car so missed that
The old one will age better on the interior....that piano black will get scratched to hell as prob will the screens. Also dial n clocks are timeless but digital displays age or look outdated...thats why your hyper and high prestige cars dont have all digital dash screens. Also buttons n dial add some class
It will be interesting to see how C8 fairs. I'd hope the piano black is tougher than the cheaper stuff in VW Seat Skoda, only time will tell
Glad to see another video on the C7 finally! I was worried you had moved it on already. It's such a lovely car, don't hide it from us!!
Thanks Jon. Occasionally I save up enough cash to put some fuel in and film it 😉
Nice spider web at the inner mirror of the C7
Well spotted!
Those spider nets at min 24:44! Came on!!! 🙂
Tip trips to blame
@@volkswizard 🤣🤣🤣
What you want for a daily is an A6 TDI 320 all-road. With a mild tune it will do almost anything you need.
Nice car but diesel values are really on the slide so while cheaper to run, could cost more in longer term
@@volkswizard Its not about the cost 😊
I’ll stick to the rs6 my daily 😂
Prefer the C7 definitely! That back view on the blue c8 does look nice but the triangular front bits I think look crap in comparison. I once was lucky to drive a C5 rs6 avant many many years ago. I still remember grinning like a madman when I floored it. It was the feeling of like in a plane when you take off. I later learned that’s the torque. Please tell me what’s it feel like nowadays in the C7? Still gives me that great takeoff feeling I hope 🙏🏻 want to get one soon maybe in a year or so 😊
Trust me, the C7 definitely gives you the take off feeling! Unlike C5 it also has the reverse thrust feeling too as it has decent brakes :))
RS6 an all time classic IMO. Subjective, love that blue. 👍
(Saw this vid pop up earlier, clicked on it to watch, said private video then disappeared. Andrew not happy with something I thought 🤔😁).
Thanks for coming back Graeme, had a technical issue with that. Rush job as all filmed yesterday. Hope you enjoyed it👍
@@volkswizard Yes, was awaiting the RS6 one, a fav car of mine. 👍
I love both of these cars but if I had the c7 I wouldn't be in a rush to buy the c8. Not putting the c8 down it's just that the c7 is that good there's not much more you can ask for especially considering the price
Very true sir. A Performance C7 would make it even harder to justify the move to C8
The c7 looks insanely dated though
@@fbf01 not really obviously the c8 is newer but look at the price difference
Good video, and great family cars... I like that you have a spider in your RS6 😁🕷️🕸️
Thank you NK! 👍 I think the Spider was from taking garden stuff to the tip. I try not to leave it in overnight but last time it was due to rain so best place was in the car, I think the spider agreed!
The C7 is the best Rs6 for me😍
There are cobwebs around the rearview mirror in Audi C7
Awesome vid..C7 is the ultimate estate car. Just out of interest..how did you upgrade the C7 media to allow apple car play?
Thanks Wizard! 😀
How did you update to CarPlay is that a unit that goes in behind the stereo unit?
No, it's really easy and free. There is a link in the description to a video that shows you what to do.
@@volkswizard do you know if this will effect the Bose speak system. I see the guy mentions it but I don’t know if it will be an issue or not. I want car play but I don’t want it to effect the current audio setup. It does look really simple though. Any ideas?
The c8 is the biggest let down rs6 every other model that came before it was was such a benchmark car and yes you could say other manufacturers have moved the game on but for me the c8 is a bit of a flop. The c7 however is an absolute future classic. Brutal machine. May even buy one after my f90 m5
Great video, you can't beat a fast wagon!
What tyres are they on, is the C7 on Conti's 5P?
Hi Simo73, yep Conti 5ps, had to replace 2 so got the same again - couldn't get Goodyear Supersports in that size sadly otherwise would have got a set
Great vid. Will be updating my C7 S6 for a C7 RS6 in the coming months. 👍🏼
Nice 👍Thanks Dutch, I fancy a later better spec car myself
Picked up my C7 RS6 last month. Best car I've ever owned.
Nice work Matthew, enjoy it!
@@volkswizard thanks man. I'm a new subscriber to your channel and I'm loving your content so far bud. Keep it up 👍
Prefer the C7 looks, C8 too garish. I'm right in thinking they made a V10 version before these?
Yep C6 was twin turbo V10, possibly more or the same power but a lot heavier and slower and thirstier and very nose heavy but last time they did a saloon which in right colour is a real sleeper. Came out in thick of financial crash of 2008 so not a big seller.
The C7 didn't get destroyed by the competition from Merc and BMW like the C8 does, it destroyed the competition.....
Audi spec sheet actually states 565 litres for the boot.
Thanks for that, not sure where I got 545 from especially as they are the same for both cars so I must have researched that
The term your looking for which you can’t find on the C8 is what we call in South Africa 🇿🇦 #VrrPha!!
Another fantastic video Andrew. Are you producing a 2023 Volkswizard calendar this year?
Thanks again Dog-bite! Yes indeed, will work on calendar next week, got some awesome RS6 images today 👍
Love the comparison, BUT please get that cobweb off your c7 rear view mirror 😂
Done!😁
bruh i got some serious anxiety looking at that C8 interior.
i just don't feel it one bit...but then i saw C7 interior and it made my smile go over jupiter. :D
Great comparison video Andrew, awesome British secondary Rd’s to video on.
Noticed you have a little friend camped out in your C7, probably happy it’s found a home to spin itself a web.😂
🇳🇿🇨🇦
Thanks Murray, we are blessed with the varied road network we have here in the UK, just don't try and film when the kids are coming home from school ;) I used the RS6 for a run to the local tip/recycling centre and the spider must have stowed away then 😁
Golf R estate all day, for cost and A to B performance
2 weeks after upload the unvail of the rs6 and rs7 performance is out ouf 630hp 850nm🙈
Yes, total coincidence!
I really like your reviews Andrew, keep them coming!
Glad you like them Phil, that means an awful lot so thanks and thanks for taking the time to comment too👍
I just got a C7.5 and whilst it does feel pretty ancient inside these days compared to newer cars, the space and the pace are still totally worth it.
@@volkswizard It is certainly not as good as the RS3 haha!
But yes, does feel nice and solid inside, if pretty dated. But I'm still enjoying it!
The extra space, comfort and burbling along is very very nice.
The pace is just SO effortless in it.
The C7 is the best design Audi has ever made. New designs do not reflect audi
C7 A6 Avant is a high watermark for understated Audi design. Even in RS guise it’s relatively subtle, mostly due to the high number of S-Line models on the road. C8 is just too ghastly now, styled to appeal to truly awful humans. Not for me. De-badged C7 in silver for me please 👌
I would have the older one, if only for the raw sound
The RS4-R ABT is a much better car all round
I’ll take the V10 .
Anyday. C6 V10 still rules them all.
please test some true british car's what celebrate are brexit. like are new mg's or rover's. or cashqui's what are built in sunderland ect.
Chinese MGs and Japanese Nissans are ‘true British’?
Eh hang on the channel is Volks Wizard what would that mean do you think - Volkswagen Audi group products is the most obvious
This car has a spiders 🕷 Web as well as the last TT, behind the wing mirror
Very true, I must valet more thoroughly above dashboard!
Hi, subscriber of course. My wife has a vw eos tfsi. 2.0. Basically the mk5 golf gti engine. Our garage has recommended we don't use e10 fuel as it damages the engine. Maybe a good video topic after some research.
That cobweb on the C7 rear view mirror is annoying me
Nice review!!! I am looking for a C7 RS6 2018, it is still expensive in Australia to buy one.
Might be expensive hui but it’s a big car for a big country so worth it 👍

Nice spider webs on your rear view mirror on the grey car, I guess even spiders love a fast awesome ride in a great car :)
25:29 - love the spider web :D
the old one just looks better more solid
The flared wheel arches of the C7 look way more butch combined with a more classic styling - the C7 is my pick over the C8. Both are stunning cars

I’d take the c6 v10 version. Well I already did as I own one🤣
brave man - never driven one but undoubtedly a car from the time when engineering challenges were important at VWG
@ they’re awesome cars when you get one that’s been looked after. My friend has a c7 stage 2, and my uncle a c8 stage 1. Mine at stage 2 beats both. In corners and in straights👌🏼 they’re different up top too. I can change into 6th gear at 202mph

3.6 to 60 is slow? The new one handles really well too so not sure why you think they are slow!

A comprehensive comparison, thanks. Some start-up noise would have been appreciated and please don't use Americanisms.
Agree hate the way lazy Americanisms and slang have infiltrated the English language
Glad you enjoyed it Res. Not sure what I said but I'm always trying to consider the audience and with C8 RS6 being sold in North America as well as UK I probably didn't think it was too bad. At least I don't say rotors and fenders :)
@@volkswizard Thanks for a considered reply. You said, ' getting on the gas', or something along those lines. I've heard a lot worse from other UA-camrs, as you indicate, but I prefer correct English. Have a good evening.
