Really enjoy your videos. We use the 6.2, 6.5 and turbo versions in various Landcruiser and Nissan Patrols here in Australia. My daily driver for 10 years was a Landcruiser 80 series with a N/A 6.5, it goes anywhere, tows anything, never missed a beat.
Great video. I worked on those when they were new. Factory recall had us replace the head gaskets and new head bolts. A month later factory recall replace head gaskets and install studs in place of head bolts. We used to pull the front clip of of the truck to work on them. Imagine the customers shock when he came in to see the work in progress. Toughest ones to work on was the vans. I love the Gus man. Thanks for including a little bit of Jen. PS I would have bought it just because it had a tilt steering column.

Brought back fond memories, back in the late 90s I had 3 suburbans, one blazer, and my trusty plow truck that were all the Detroit 6.2 Diesel. My plow truck ran circles around a Dodge snow commander, and we took the 84 suburban to Florida a few times and always got around 24mpg and they were all 4 wheel drive.
Indeed, my eyes roll back (this video too) whenever I hear people whining about the 6.2 and 6.5. The were products of their time, such as 55 mph speed limits and crazy fuel prices. They did their job, albeit not speed demons. Yes, they have a classic diesel clatter. Do a few minor, but vital upgrades, and these are faithful work horses. GM, as always, had moron bean counters spoiling things, thus the needed upgrades. We have a 1996 Suburban 6.5 Turbo Diesel, and we enjoy the truck, it is used in nice weather for long distance travel, fuel mileage is great too!
@@SammyVista1972 Before I had those diesels I even had an olds and a cadillac with the 5.7 conversion by oldsmobile and loved them, got 30 mpg. The third bolt on the starter mount is 100% MANDATORY!! leave that off and the big bolts will sheer in the block. I bought a lot of those for cheap rolling the dice on a helicoil.
Don't forget proper starter bolts! I've seen a few 6.2/6.5's with busted off starter mounts thanks to people putting in regular Grade 8 bolts. The bolts are engineered to snap off and save the block, thus why GM used SAE 9.8 bolts, which are Grade 5ish equivalents.
Well the roll back has a ton of potential! It sounds good with the new exhaust. I was hesitant of this vehicle when the video began, I'm happy to see that it has turned out this good! Good deal Chris and I am looking forward to the upcoming Mustang videos.
One of the NNKH’s best episodes! Amazing ability to spot a “diamond in the rough” and get the work done to make it useful again. Great mind for seeing to the root of a problem - and fixing it with solutions affordable to most folks. Thank you!
Watching you pull that rusty wreck calls to mind a Bob Dylan song with lyrics, " It ain't hard to stumble and land in some muddy lagoon, specially when its 5 below zero and, three o'clock in the afternoon "
From the disappointment in your voiwhen you opened the hood to the joy of it running. You'll, enjoy the overdrive unit catching the middle gears towing or with a load in the hills . Enjoy your channel but somehow this one was special. Keep up yhe good work
This is my absolute favorite channel on UA-cam! I watched these out of order so I know how well the truck towed the mustang out of town and laughing at your unsure confidence in this knowing you love it now!
Chris, I love it when things fall your way and you make things look so damn easy to fix. When I seen you had a new video I could not wait to get in bed and watch your new episode. Nice to see good things happen to good people. Please keep them coming. Bob.
The repair shop i worked at did AAA towing, all our rollbacks were aluminum bed, the steel ones either had to be kept oiled or painted, the aluminum ones we didnt have to worry about it. Those beds are made from a aluminum alloy, so are tougher than you think.
While it's a 100% accurate statement that the 6.2/6.5’s are absolute gutless turds, I've seen more than a few that beat the odds with meticulous maintenance and lived waaay longer than expected. Like 400k..
I just pulled my 94 GMC 1500 reg cab 1/2 ton 6.5 non turbo diesel out of winter storage today. Truck has been in the family since new & never winter driven with original paint. I love the rattle it makes & has plenty of power & great on fuel...gets around 600 mi to the tank.
That's a sweet roll back wrecker! The fact that it's been sitting for 10 years and you literally just did a service on it and your towing already. Hell between the cool factor of the wrecker with the sleeper and it being a 4x4! You did good. A steel deck would of been better I think but what you got works. Listen to me talking like I'm some type of wrecker driver. I have never ran a wrecker ever in my life . I am a mechanic and I know the drivers say the aluminum get tire up but are lighter. The steel deck is solid and don't get tore up. The cars slide better on a steel deck but the are a lot heavier.
Yeah I’m always waiting for the next video and hate to wait for it. I could watch Chris talk as he is working on old car and trucks all day. Love watching and learning. Keep them coming. Really bring me a sense of relaxation.

@45:33 - "I am just jumpin' around..." I really kind of enjoy that style. I used to listen to a talk radio guy that spoke in kind of a "stream of consciousness" style which often meandered and drifted but, in the end, always came back to the main, cogent point. You film in that style, or at least you have here. I dig it.
Tires for $100 ain't normal. Unless they used. Green pin stripe on the black cab looks nice. Good to see a Rollback with a cool cab. My dad had an 84 c30 crew cab dually long bed, wrapped in an american flag livery and had some built big block swapped in from it's previous life as a race car hauler. Totally awesome, but totally impractical for anything but towing! Straight piped. I think it maybe got 8 mpg on a good day.

Watching you driving truck you were like a kid so excited. Thanks for awesome video
This one has by far been my favorite video.
From the disappointment in your voiwhen you opened the hood to the joy of it running. You'll, enjoy the overdrive unit catching the middle gears towing or with a load in the hills . Enjoy your channel but somehow this one was special. Keep up yhe good work
Always ready for a NNKH upload from Chris, you just know it’s going to be good 👍🙂
Safety, safety first !!!! Great job dude !I like the work ,life balance you have.
This dude is like the father we all wanted🤣😅
Haha😂
Maybe brother..he ain't old!
Or the son...for some of us 😁
It’s interesting that you are so confident in your skills that you would take an untested vehicle to pickup that car. At night even. Great job!
best channel, even better than camarata
I think this is your best revival video yet! Not just being another chevy 350 was exciting and more interesting to watch! very cool truck indeed
This is my absolute favorite channel on UA-cam! I watched these out of order so I know how well the truck towed the mustang out of town and laughing at your unsure confidence in this knowing you love it now!
You have to keep it..
Chris, I love it when things fall your way and you make things look so damn easy to fix. When I seen you had a new video I could not wait to get in bed and watch your new episode. Nice to see good things happen to good people. Please keep them coming. Bob.
Always click on these vids...thanks Chris
The repair shop i worked at did AAA towing, all our rollbacks were aluminum bed, the steel ones either had to be kept oiled or painted, the aluminum ones we didnt have to worry about it. Those beds are made from a aluminum alloy, so are tougher than you think.
Do a channel of Gus
Great video Chris, I love the videos where you show a problem, then fix the problem. Very satisfying.
While it's a 100% accurate statement that the 6.2/6.5’s are absolute gutless turds, I've seen more than a few that beat the odds with meticulous maintenance and lived waaay longer than expected. Like 400k..
I was disappointed at first but this one runs pretty good and I kind of like it for the application. Works well. I'm excited to see the fuel economy
i''d 454 swap it real quick.
All the 6.2 diesels ive come across, regardless of application, seem to get around 20mpg loaded/unloaded, doesnt matter. @NoNonsenseKnowHow
Pretty cool video. I actually had my exhaust done by Low Cost Exhaust in Bensalem, PA. Very knowledgeable and reasonably priced.
You mean to tell me that you can have a single video showing everything instead of having four dozen videos? Who knew?
Nice, can't wait to see what you end up doing to it!
Thank you man! More to come for sure!
What! You did not have GM starter shims next to the Sea Shell drawer! LOL. Just kidding.
I do now! LOL
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow 👍 LOL
Add this to the fleet and never let it go,that thing is too cool
So does that mean da balls is going to da crusha…🧟♂️
Surprised Me With the Knowledge You Have On The Diesel Truck, Great Job! Made What Looked Like A Lost Cause To Success!
Dam I miss that dairy queen, glad to see its still open. I love this channel for the cars and the scenery. I've been down in Florida for over 20yrs now and I miss up north.
I dig it.
It’s hilarious when he beats himself up over the things we like the best about him!
Great video Chris. I think that I'm the #1 fan of Gus. I just LOVE HIM !!!
Tires for $100 ain't normal.
Unless they used.
Green pin stripe on the black cab looks nice.
Good to see a Rollback with a cool cab.
I'd rid it of bedbugs & spiders before spending any length of time in that cab.
❤ your work.
This is my 1st time watching your video. Great work ethic.
[ Its easier when your tools are all organized & your nieghbors ain't drug users snooping your home for a score & you have no haters cause your videos are so organized. We don't get upstarted so easily, yet your success is a testiment to our focus. Cheers & happy fortunes. Keep up the good work. ]
I really love this Channel! I’m buying my 78’ Ford back and hoping for some adventures!
Listen, I'm a mechanic, and I'm happy to see you doing this, and I only wish I was there to assist you while learning a trick or 2 from you 🎉🎉🎉
I had a 6.2L diesel for many years and came around to appreciate it a lot. Amazingly reliable. Mine had an auto transmission and I always felt the SM465 would have been a better match.
I think you found a good one there! Thing runs great and 4wd and that rollback will be handy. Also Gus is super cool!
Proud of you sharing knowledge AND cleaning up the environment!
That 6.2 GM diesel engine sounds amazing. I like it. 👍🏼
Buying a LEATHERMAN BECAUSE OF THIS CHANNEL!! LEATHERMAN PLEASE HELP THIS GUY OUT!! **ATTN LEATHERMAN!!**
