    Hey guys just a heads up, I'm using a new microphone for this video which is why it may sound different than normal. Still working out some kinks and figuring stuff out (in case you know, it wasn't obvious enough that I'm bad at this lol)
    If there's anything I can do to improve the quality than please let me know, as usual I always appreciate your feedback.

      Avoid ending sentences with upward inflection when you're not asking a question :) Otherwise it's like you're talking like this? Even though the words you're saying don't call for it? e.g. @0:44 "...because they could just help themslves?" and again @1:17 "...playable?"

    Spawn was in Soul Calibur 2 because at that time, Namco developed Spawn Armageddon. It wasn't an Xbox exclusive, it was on all 3 platforms, but it was likely cheaper for them to reuse Spawn than it was for them to make a deal with Xbox to use Blinx the Time Sweeper. Master Chief wouldn't have made it in because that game came out about half a year prior to the release of Soul Calibur, and I don't think everyone knew Halo was going to be as big as it ended up being.

    Oooh, Console exclusive was a good curveball from the community post teaser. I was fully betting it was gonna be on third party guest characters!

    Pitchin' as the Soulcalibur nerd: the Soul series has a history of console-exclusives since the first game
    Originally, Hwang and Mitsurugi in Soul Blade were interchangeable characters sharing the same moveset but were only available depending on on the region, but both were made available on the Playstation version alongside a new addition with Han Myeong...who was still just another Mitsurugi clone
    Soulcalibur originally didn't feature Cervantes in the arcade version and was added as a console exclusive character alongside making Inferno playable..
    Soulcalibur III is an interesting oddity because its arcade version was released _after_ the console version. It added Inferno as an exclusive boss character and gave Hwang his own separate slot rather than being relegated to a bonus character

      Soul Calibur 5 was to feature two guest characters: Ezio from Assassin's Creed 2, and Devil Jin from Tekken. Unfortunately due to rushed development, only Ezio was completed and Devil Jin wasn't; he has no model, his moveset and announcer call are all that's left of him and his voice clips are all placeholder beeps. However, you can make custom characters that use Devil Jin's moveset, but not those with Ezio's moveset possibly because of Ubisoft.
      Ironically, only Ezio's stage and Devil Jin's moveset did carry over to Soul Calibur Lost Swords, but Ezio's stage was not intended to appear. Yet, it showed up in one stage of a limited time event where you can get pieces of exclusive armor. In that stage, it's trying to play Ezio's theme, but all you get is silence.

      @@X2011racer IV's guests also weren't available as custom movesets (and you can't give them new costumes like you can for the normal cast), so presumably that was a limitation in the licensing agreement. I might be missing a spinoff, but I want to say VI is the first game that lets you use guest characters in the character builder.
      Also worth noting that III doesn't have a proper guest character, but the character builder has cosmetics that let you make KOS-MOS from Xenosaga.

    Quite a few omissions when it comes to MK:
    - MK4 on home consoles and PC had Goro as an exclusive character; he wasn't in Arcade version;
    - MK Gold, Dreamcast exclusive port of MK4, had 6 additional characters, compared to home version of MK4;
    - MK: Tournament Edition (second port of Deadly Alliance on GB Advance), had exclusive characters Sektor, Noob Saibot and Sareena, who were not in any other version of the game;
    - MK Unchained - outside of Goro and Shao Kahn, its also had 4 characters ported from Deadly Alliance;

    Now, this is speculation, but wasn't Necrid included in SC2 due to Mcfarlane Toy's deal to produce the official Soul Calibur 2 figures? Todd Mcfarlane created Necrid (and Spawn), and I had always assumed that Namco put Necrid in to throw Mcfarlane a bone as an afterthought, which is why his moves and playstyle are a broken mishmash of several other characters

    the gba port of alpa 3 is actually really cool, and while novelty is really the only reason to play it these days, the devs (crawfish interactive) did a great job just getting it to play as well as they did, extra characters or not. plus there were no game breaking glitches, unlike capcom's own gba port of sf2.
    though speaking of its release date, it's possible those characters were added in to make up for having missed the previous christmas season, which was the intended release window. this missed deadline meant crawfish broke contract with capcom, and that apparently led to them shutting down.
    they actually made some incredibly ambitious gba games, and made them well, so i wish they hadn't gone under for such a bullshit reason.

      Supposedly the reason GBA Alpha 3 is so limited in terms of stages and audio is because Capcom forced Crawfish to use an 8 MB cart for whatever reason instead of a larger size like 32 MB. Had they had more space to play with, they could've included more stages, higher-quality audio, and better animation. Supposedly a 3rd Strike port of similar quality could've also been possible.

    The reason Hakushin was cut from TvCUAS requires explanation. In the early 90's, Saban Entertainment did an English dub of his anime, and even though it never aired in the US, they still owned the US rights to it (Bulk is even seen watching it in an episode of Power Rangers). Then Disney bought pretty much all of Saban's catelog during their acquisition of Fox Family, and despite the fact that they only did anything with Power Rangers and Digimon, they still wouldn't allow Hakushin and the Samurai Pizza Cats from appearing in TvC.

    Anna Williams, with her own playstyle, was also exclusive to the console version of Tekken 3. In the Arcade version, she was merely a pallete swap of Nina Williams. This is because Anna was a very late addition to the game, hence Ogre having some of her moves, even though she's in the game.

    Street Figter X Tekken had console exclusive characters, too. The PS3 and PSVita versions got guest characters in the forms of Cole from inFAMOUS, Box Art Mega Man, Pac-Man piloting a Mokujin mech, and two cat mascots named Toro and Kuro. This level of PlayStation exclusivity makes MK9 Kratos look paltry. It doesn't even have the Tatsunoko excuse of only being on those consoles, because it was on Xbox 360 and PC!
    Edit: I did find a developer quote explaining things. "We do have the exclusive characters for the Sony platform. We have Cole, the two Sony cats, Kuro and Toro. But basically for the Xbox 360, we were in discussions with them (Microsoft) for which character to put in as an exclusive, but we weren't able to decide on a character because of differences in timing and things like that."

    17:19 Glad to see SOULCALIBUR II Plus footage on this video. I thank the modders for porting over Heihachi, Spawn and Siegfried to the GameCube version, but they had to cut corners and instead give us Mitsurugi-based models for Heihachi due to technical issues.
    I believe Spawn was included in the Xbox version not only because of Todd McFarlane's involvement in creating an original character for SOULCALIBUR II CS, but Namco also had the Spawn license, a franchise Todd McFarlane created. Spawn Armageddon is the Namco-produced Spawn game for PS2, GameCube and Xbox, and what better why to promote it with Spawn's inclusion in the Xbox port of SOULCALIBUR II?

    My rule with exclusives is everyone should get one Atleast. It’s a slap to have one console have an extra person for free but u get nothing. What’s worse is some exclusives start as that but become purchasable down the line. Huge examples are soul calibur 4 and street fighter x tekken which had 5 exclusive characters. With 2 being purchasable down the line for Xbox. I’m okay with re launches of games having new people added or exclusives now added because they came to terms tho. It gives people a reason to buy the re release in first place.

    The EX versions aren't console exclusive as Dhalsim and Zangief are in Street Fighter Alpha 2 (US and European versions) and the rest are in Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha. Guile and Evil Ryu are in the PlayStation version, they're just not automatically unlocked (unlike the Dreamcast and Saturn ports). Super Street Fighter II Turbo for the Dreamcast and GBA have Shin Gouki/Shin Akuma as a secret character. For Mortal Kombat, I'd also include MK4 as the home versions added Noob Saibot and Goro and the Dreamcast received an updated version in Gold. Deception received an updated version for the PSP in the form of Unchained.

    Kratos actually got to appear on other consoles for the first time fairly recently through Fortnite, around the same time as Master Chief which Sony was completely fine with. Combined with God of War 2018 being on PC, I’m hoping this means MK9’s inevitable re-release will have Kratos in it on all versions.

    16:45 I don't know if Bandai still has the Gon license... As far as I know, Bandai published a Gon video game for the SNES long before they formed a joint venture with Namco.
    Not to mention Tekken 3 CS has Anna Williams with a unique moveset, something the arcade version doesn't have. That moveset would come back for Tekken Tag Tournament (at least for the arcade version). Sure you can play as Anna on Tekken 3 AC, but she's just a model swap for Nina, with the only difference being that Anna has an exclusive set of win poses that Nina can't perform.

    Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden/Dead or Alive could’ve been a great guest character for the Xbox version of SC2, but the then-owner of the DOA franchise hated Tekken and by extension, probably Soul Calibur as well so it wouldn’t have happened.
    I wish SC2 HD also came out on the Wii U then Link could’ve been made available, and then all 3 guest characters would’ve been playable officially.

    3:58 "The effort to make them as close as possible to the Street Fighter II versions is very appreciable."
    Except for Chun-Li, who doesn't have her Spinning Bird Kick and just has Sen'enshu assigned to the charge input for some fucking reason.
    Also, most of these characters were in the arcades too. Classic Chun-Li is in all versions; Evil Ryu, EX Zangief, and EX Dhalsim were added to the US version only; and the rest of the EX characters were in an update titled Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha, released only in Japan, Asia, and South America. The only true console-exclusives are Shin Akuma and Cammy.
    Evil Ryu and Guile are in the PS1 Alpha 3 too, they just need to be unlocked (as well as Shin Akuma).

    Someone probably beat me to it, but there's a few reasons why you rarely see the updated ports of Alpha 3. The first is that they don't run on the CPS2 hardware that the original does. Instead it runs on Sega's Naomi hardware. The second is that, even past all the logistics created by that, the balance changes introduced in Upper are pretty contentious with the playerbase ala VSav 2.

    • @dyrr836

      Also if you choose to revisit this topic there are TONS of SNK games like this. The PS2 port of KoF XI has a bunch of characters ported from Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, not unlike what USF4 did with the Street Fighter x Tekken characters. However unlike USF4, these characters were not given the proper TLC so they're really buggy and don't function right.

    More console exclusive fighting game characters:
    - Kliff and Justice, two characters from the first Guilty Gear game, did not return for X. As a result, they came back on the PS2-exclusive Guilty Gear X Plus with new sprites. Same deal with Guilty Gear XX Accent Core and its console-only Plus counterpart.
    - Sheryl and Hazama are two characters who debuted in the PlayStation 2 port of The Rumble Fish, and cannot be selected in the Arcade Mode. These two are playable in other modes, and attempting to select Sheryl and Hazama declares that these fighters did not officially participate the 5th F.F.S. (Fight For Survival) Tournament held by Probe-Nexus. Unfortunately, Sheryl and Hazama were cut from The Rumble Fish Plus, which came out on modern platforms as early as the PS4 and Xbox One. These two wouldn't be playable in an arcade Rumble Fish game until The Rumble Fish 2.
    - Samurai Shodown games have playable boss characters. The Mega Drive and Mega CD versions have a playable Shiro Amakusa to make up for the absence of Earthquake. He might have been playable in the PlayStation version's fencing pack, but as a VS-only hidden character. Speaking of the Samurai Shodown Fencing Pack, Mizuki's playable as a VS-only hidden character in Samurai Shodown II. Kuroko (enabler) and Zankuro became playable in the PlayStation port of Samurai Shodown III: Blades of Blood, and the latter returned playable in the PlayStation port of Samurai Shodown IV: Amakusa's Revenge, alongside Cham-Cham.
    - The King of Fighters is known for its console-exclusive characters: '94 ReBout has Saisyu Kusanagi*, '95 on the Game Boy has Nakoruru, '99 Evolution has a playable Krizalid (but only in his second form), 2002 had King (DPX), Shingo (DPX), Geese (PX), Goenitz (PX) and Orochi Iori (Xbox only). 2003 has playable versions of Kusanagi, Chizuru and Maki. XI has Robert, Mai, EX Kyo, Tung and Geese. XII had Elizabeth and Mature. XIII had Billy and an innocent, white-clad Saiki, who had timed console exclusivity before being thrown into the Arcade-only Climax release.
    - Iori Yagami does appear in the Game Boy version of Real Bout Fatal Fury Special as that version's exclusive character.
    * Saisyu Kusanagi did debut in The King of Fighters '94, but he was an NPC that only showed up in Japan Team's cutscenes when Mature was about to introduce Rugal to the finalists. Unlike Mature, Saisyu already had sprites drawn in the KOF '94 & '95 art direction, so I can see why SNK went with Saisyu as the console-only character to KOF '94, which got a home release after 10 years. Saisyu isn't in SNK Arcade Classics Vol.1 or The King of Fighters Collection: The Orochi Saga versions of KOF '94.
