Funny you mentioned different fighting styles too, when this game was the one that reduce them to just one for each character instead of the two and a weapon we had in the previous games.
Konquest mode for this one was truly special for me, loved it so much growing up. Everyone makes fun of Taven but I would love to see him come back even if only for a kameo
MK:A and MK Shaolin Monks were the two most played Mk games I had as a teenager. before them, the most played games were MK2 and UMK3. My brother and I used to go hours without a break learning our favourite characters and going match after match. Often playing the Arcade ladder, and taking turns. MK Armageddon is like The Elder Scrolls of fighting games. It doesn't do anything particularly great, but it does so much and all of it is pretty damn fun.

This game came out when I was in my mid 20s and really drew me back into kombat. My younger brother and his friends bought it and owned me, I couldn’t let that stand and I spent a inordinate amount of time playing until I destroyed them and then took it more seriously and got online and played this religiously. Eventually I got the rank of #1 on PlayStation for a little bit and remained in the top 25 afterwards. A lot of nostalgia.
I wish the newer Mortal Kombat games had a togglable sidestepping option to cater to the fans of this era of Mortal Kombat games. Fighting in hallways with invisible walls have always bothered me in certain fighting games.

Armageddon is my favorite MK 3D game because of Kreate-A-Fighter, especially after learning how to do air cancellation combos, into a infinite juggle combo with weapon style as a ender.

I was saying how i was excited Nitara is coming back for MK1 and she was a 3d era kombatant i wanted to return and someone commented on my tweet saying i didnt know who she was before she was announced lmaooo. People really think id pretend to know old MK games for some reason?
As a kid, I just loved playing the ladder to fight the end fighter who makes you look like an ant. Seeing your character trying to fight this god is just so cool as a kid.
I didnt played much Armageddon but it always seemed like alot of fun when i saw some gameplay. The MK game i grew up with was Shaolin Monks and even tho we were way too young back then and had to hide the CD very well, my friends and i had a blast playing it. Im really looking forward to the new MK game but i miss the old days of Midway too, they were able to make fighting games approachable and fun even for people who never played a beat'em up. Great video btw, it was kinda heart warming to me seeing someone else talk about the good old days. (I also wish we would still have booklets nowadays and not stupid season pass ads...)
12:30 Armageddon scared me as a kid because for the Wii version when you click on the game it's basically a really loud jumpscare. I would say it's even louder than the Brawl menu screen
I can remember going online trying to find character creation tutorials on how to make Goku Bruce Lee and all them but I never had enough stuff unlocked to even be able to make those characters
It let you create custom fighters, which was such a great feature. You can easily tell the devs wanted you to make all kinds of Gokus, Sailor Moon, He-Men, Skeletors and basically any Shoto from Street Fighter. It was such an amazing feature that I wondered why it never came back, but then I realized: If you can make your own Jason, why would you buy the DLC (simillar thing is happening with the TMNT in SF6 now). Unfortunately, this is also the game that crippled Motaro for close to seventeen years. Since Midway was in deep financial trouble, Armageddon was more on the rushed side of things and Motaro almost didn't even make it in. To have him, they had to turn him into a satyr rather than his centaur self. Devs threw around the "can't make four legs work in 3D" excuse, but I never bought that. It was a time-saving meassure. But in the Netherrealm era of games, he shows up in MK from 2011 and dies immediately and is gone from the series. It took till now for him to make return in full four-legged grlory (even if, just like Goro, he got slimmed down a bit).
This is my odd favorite right here. Haven't played it in years so I might think differently, but man, this one has been brought up in SO many conversations. I was pretty popular for my character creations. So many good times. Ohh the memories. :)
This was my first mk game. I remember I was in kindergarten and I was soo scared of the picture of Goro in the menu screen that I mainly played the racing section.
As of 10/09/23, Armageddon celebrated it's 17th anniversary of it's debut. I love it for KAF characters & doing an air cancellation combo into a juggle string with them, boss characters can too with a weapon from any stage that's available with one, it's funny & crazy to see Onaga do an air cancellation combo, because of how big he is.
Best mk so far that roster had a character for any player the verify did not fall short plus shuginkos uprising was the story mode which was really fun. Plus the crypt was a whole free roam full of Easter eggs allowing you to cross all realms and run around you could even find lui lang tortured and dead. Armageddon even let you create a character
I remember people hating on this game but I always loved it! I grew up in the 3d era of mk games and this is my favorite. Deception is really good but this one is just awesome! Glad to see someone giving this game some love!!!
Man deception, SM, deadly alliance & this one was amazing. So glad I was able to play them when they came out. Me and my lil brother used to stay play the Tetris & motor combat
I had that game. May still have but sold my ps2. Create your own finisher was crazy. I like the MK game with chess. Armageddon came out in 1999 actually.
I couldn't stand Konquest mode in this compared to Deception's. I like how Deception was a RPG and let you explore the MK realms. Armageddon's Konquest mode was just disappointing. The combat in Armageddon felt like such a downgrade after Shaolin Monks. Taven being Taven and being a Marty Stu in the MK lore didn't help.
Although not my favorite mk, it is the only 3d era mk that I've ever owned on the ps2 and at the time, thought it was pretty cool. You had every character up to that point, almost every stage from every game, a decent konquest mode, and create a character mode. The only thing i felt like was ass was the create-a-fatality. Which as you said, takes personality away from everyone who used to have unique fatalities. Given, i feel that's because of all the characters they had to cram into this game. It was like a then-modern version of mk trilogy. Which imo is the greatest mk game.
funny story about this game for me i was on ebay looking for shaolin monks (still haven’t got it yet) i found this one listing for monks completed box and all at a reasonable price and bought it…turns out it didn’t come with the monk disc but armageddon 💀😂 still love the mess out this game tho matty can we get a shaolin monks retrospective next??

The Armageddon konquest mode was more story driven, while the Deception konquest mode was "Let's do quests, but end up destroying the realms" style.
Love your content dude and I’m so hype you are covering my favorite game series. Can’t wait for your thoughts on MK9
Deception is my favorite and I love Shujinko, but Armageddon is ridiculously awesome!
The last Blockbuster is in Bend, Oregon! I went there in July 2022, it was a real nostalgia trip of my childhood!
We all know this is the best MK game next to Shaolin Monks. Great story mode, Kart Racing, Introduction to Air combos. Not to mention it’s still in the running for Best MK Intro of all time. I like where NRS is going with this new story. I’ll never forget watching all the game trailers on G4 TV
The intro to this game was the most epic thing to watch as a kid. Imo one of the best mortal kombat games ever.
I was saying how i was excited Nitara is coming back for MK1 and she was a 3d era kombatant i wanted to return and someone commented on my tweet saying i didnt know who she was before she was announced lmaooo. People really think id pretend to know old MK games for some reason?
your scorpion joke with the costume there right at the end, Matty, was cute. Sincerely.
Missed this one--ambitious title
Amazing review
Dude called Deceptions Konquest abysmal
It's better than Armageddon imo
I was 6 years old when the very first Mortal Kombat game came out! My younger sister was deathly afraid of the living forest stage in MK2.
12:30 Armageddon scared me as a kid because for the Wii version when you click on the game it's basically a really loud jumpscare. I would say it's even louder than the Brawl menu screen
Really loving the new thumbnails.
“Shoutout to my King Lao mains out there”
Bro you’re gonna make me cry for the struggle we gotta go through in every movie and story mode 😭
Man I will always be grateful I grew up on this generation of games. What a time.
The mini games and character creator were so sick. Spent thousands of hours on it.
omg hey its mrmattyplays! long time fan, just stumbled upon this channel. love ur fallout content
I was just thinking about this game yesterday and this appears, it’s crazy how good the algorithms are sometimes.
The death sound effect in konquest had me turning down my volume to the minimum as a kid it was so scary
First Mortal Kombat game I played when I was 7. Loved this franchise ever since
Although not my favorite mk, it is the only 3d era mk that I've ever owned on the ps2 and at the time, thought it was pretty cool.
Which imo is the greatest mk game.
funny story about this game for me
i was on ebay looking for shaolin monks (still haven’t got it yet) i found this one listing for monks completed box and all at a reasonable price and bought it…turns out it didn’t come with the monk disc but armageddon 💀😂 still love the mess out this game tho
matty can we get a shaolin monks retrospective next??
Just found your channel and I’m really enjoying it! Great content and great charm
liked the video, you talked ab deadly alliances konquest mode, there was little to it but it told you giant stories in the background as well and i really liked that lore should give it a read if you like mortal kombat from the "3d era"
I have this game in the ps2 also, I’ve played it everyday day when I was a kid along with deception and deadly alliance and shaolin monks, I love these games so fucking much, I hold them dear to my heart
