Nice review. Heard hidden games have been found when digging through the code. Maybe they'll unlock and/or add more games with future firmware updates. Also the 1, 2 and 3 toggles goes between usb modes if you are using it on the computer or consoles from what was said in My Life in Gaming's review.
I figured as much afterwards, the instructions weren’t exactly clear on that. There is now a hack to add other emulators and I can only guess we will see the unlock hack become a little more mainstream in the coming days.
Also..the side buttons switch the stick from various modes like being able to play in console mode (play current games built in), play as a controller for the neo geo mini, or standard x-input for pc etc.
@@ScarletSprites man i want this. I just dont know if i can justify the cash for it. I enjoy some silky scanlines with my pixel scaling and boy do these look crappy!

Fantastic Review. Been waiting for you to post it. I remember growing up in the 90's and always wanting a Neo Geo but was restricted by the $300 games. This looks like a great way to finally play some of the games that I never got to play back then with a decent enough stick which will suffice for someone who isn't a die hard fighting fan. I really hope there are more games to unlock as I have never played any Metal Slug games and I really love the Super Sidekick series.
Thanks man, I would definitely recommend this over the Neo Mini if/when the other games become unlocked. You’d really need to be a die hard fighting fan for it as is, but it’s definitely an improvement over what I thought we would be getting.
I am really interested in this device. Just a couple of notes, the platform selection switch is used (for what I understand) to make the Stick function as a controller for other devices. You can use it as a controller for all the games in the Neo Geo Mini. Also, this stick is compatible with all current consoles (PS4 and Xbone) and PC! Wohoo!
I'm so excited about this! Snk made up for me. I want to buy one but not until the 3rd of December so hopefully they don't raise the price or are sold out. Your the coolest!
@@ScarletSprites I'll probably just buy it on the 3. I have a feeling it's going to go up in price. I mean look at the snes classic it's 140.00 now new. Thanks Martin. I realized I did cut the piece where I went through talking about hooking this up to the Mini. I should have noted what you mentioned elsewhere when I did, I just wanted this to stand on its own and tried to limit talking about the Mini outside of where this was an improvement.
Thank you for this--I got this for Tekken 7 and King of Fighters 15...I really did not want to buy the Quanba Drone or Crystal because I find those sticks to be too ugly. Hori fight sticks have buttons that are too shallow and sensitive for me so I hope this works out !

Pretty awesome that SNK sent you the arcade stick pro for review. Congrats bro! I really enjoyed the review. I can definitely tell you are excited for this arcade stick. Thanks for the content.
loved playing with a friends but couldn't afford my own. He claims I'm the better arcade stick user so he just up and gave it to me! Here's to best friends and SNK!
Oddly, it’s probably most noticeable to me on League Bowling. I play that game a lot on my MVS cabinet and I can tell the timing is off on the ASP. Probably not a big deal to 99% of the people out there.
@@ScarletSprites thanks for the video & response Sir, that's the answer I am looking for, because I can notice the delay from watching lots of videos here on UA-cam related to ASP, it's actually a tough decision to take whether buying the AES (go old school) or ASP (become mainstream) 😭
Well we're getting closer to that AES Mini Edition all of have been hoping for. I would have bought one of these if not for the MSRP. Already a lot of places are getting $150 a pop. Really hoping their next one (they have announced a third I'm told) is a mini classic like we got from Nintendo, Sega and Sony. AES Mini for $99 or less, SNK.. I'll buy two of them!

I was very hesitant after the neo geo mini. I'm glad SNK got it right! I got mine few months ago and really love it. They should have at least thrown in metal slug , magician lord and sengoku, Regardless this one is worth getting. Also for the fact that can it be connected to pc , ps3/ps4 i believe.
They will eventually unlock officially, they are stored on the device. There is a method to create your own key and unlock them now. So it’s official, but you’re unlocking it via an unofficial way if that makes sense.
Excellent review! Looks like they have listened to the feedback and it's nice that they kept the price point down. With all the options out there to emulate Neo Geo, if they had this thing upwards to $200, it would have drawn people to the more popular options. All things considered, with the number of games on there and playing this legit... it's still a great value. I wonder if that 1/2/3 switch has anything to do with determining which player. 4 player Kizuna Encounter anyone?
Haha, that switch allows it to be used on other devices like a PC. The documentation I have is just a little vague, and kept referencing switching modes so I wasn’t 100% certain. If/when this drops below $100 I’d consider it a decent pickup.
My unit is on the way... hope they will unlock the full 40 titles rapidely ! It's nice to give us MS1 and MS2, but i definitively need the MS3 and other title like NeoTurf Master, SSkick or Striker 45+ If you have any news about this, please let us know :)
That’s a tough call, and really depends on what you want to do. A Pandora’s Box is really referencing the emulator box, so build quality of sticks can vary greatly depending on vendor. The ASP is an official product that will always be more limited (to SNK/Neo games) than a Pandora’s Box setup. If you’re just looking to play games, I’d go with the latter and find a vendor using good Sanwa or Seimitsu parts.
H Scarlet, I just received my ASP today, and I'm having a lot of fun!. Wanted to ask you a couple of things: 1. Have you find an option to asign a button to A+B? 2. Do you know what the Turbo button does?. Finally, I would like to add that it didn't come with a power supply, just the power cable (USB to USB-C). Great review!
No, I've not looked into mapping a single button to two. I believe the turbo button only works when the stick is used on another device (like PS4), but it keeps you from having to repeatedly press the button you set it to. How it actually works I don't know, as I've not had the stick hooked up to a modern console (don't own any!).
You really know how to outdo yourself Scarlet. Still glad that SNK was generous to send you this stick and thrilled that it's to your liking with vast improvements over the Mini. One thing about SNK, they certainly listen in on what the public wants and request. They always did then and even now. 8^) I posted this up on the Neo-Geo thread on Atariage.com for you. It's on post #20,629 for you to view. Thank you as always bro. Always a pleasure to listen in on what you have to say. 8^) Anthony..
I'm like you. $130 is a little too much however, was looking at it on Amazon and suddenly it was offered 20 dollars off for 15 minutes. So, I pulled the trigger at $110 (free shipping) and now I'm waiting for it to be delivered. Still a bit more than what I wanted to pay however, I'm gambling on them unlocking more games for it in the future. I sat for hours everyday back in the 90's at the local arcade taking on any and all challengers that would throw up their quarter on the glass for most of these fighting games. Cant wait to relive some of that!
Nice man! I think you’ll enjoy the trip down memory lane. This is really the type of controller these were intended to be played with. It is a pricey beast though, for sure.
I have the same frustration with this that I do for that huge CAPCOM Home Arcade. For the price they're asking these things need to include a mass amount of games. The collection style games for these two companies come out like every year or two and they can all be bought on multiple systems, both handheld and home, as well as our phones and tablets. If you're going to ask for over $100 then just include TONS of games. The casual user at home is thinking "wtf why would I buy this when I can just get them on my PS4, Switch etc" and the hardcore fan is thinking "wtf why would I buy this when I have a real arcade stick and emulators".. I get the point of the products and the appeal, but I just don't understand the logic of holding out on games that have been released dozens and dozens of times elsewhere.
Nice NEO GEO hoodie , that’s dedication 😁. I’m glad there is a lot to like with this one. Looks like it’s got some Metal Slug games so that’s something. Sounds like it’s got plenty of display options . Awesome video man !
Hello! Quality of games is how? and on GMOTW it is possible to reduce or enlarge the bar power special? dsl I go through a trader because I do not understand English;) thanks in advance
Great review. Those complaining about only 20 games should consider how much these would cost on the actual Neo Geo system. Then the price point improves exponentially.
I do think of the 20 were mixed in genre it would be a better buy, but 20 isn’t terrible imo. I do think this because more attractive at a $99 price point and I can definitely see it getting there in a few months.
I think there are a lot of people wondering when this is shipping from Amazon as well. Many who preordered and expected them to ship yesterday had their ETAs shifted to 1-2 months.
You’d have been disappointed actually, lol. I’m actually not a Smash Bros guy, I didn’t even bother buying it for Switch. It’s just never been a game I could get into.
It’s a noticeable input lag, just a slight delay between onscreen actions and buttons taps. It’s more so than on original hardware, but I’m wondering if most people will even notice. I hope someone tests it to validate, I just don’t have decent equipment for doing that.
@Michelle O Lag is inevitable in sw emulation. A software emulator (like this) that already includes a minimum of lag, played on an HD display that involves lag itself, will never be on par with original hw on a CRT monitor with zero delay. That said, other reviews speak very well saying that lag is almost imperceptible (provided that you use a gaming monitor with fast response).
Input lag is a huge turn off for me when it comes to fighters. Especially for older fighters(because they are more difficult). However, I am still interested in the neo geo arcade stick pro just for the potential amount of content in the future. For now, I will stick with my Hori rap 4 and all my snk games that I have bought on my ps4 and steam.
Yeah, I agree. I hope someone with decent equipment measures it. I definitely noticed it on SSVS, but not as much on Garou. Hopefully someone confirms I’m not crazy.
@@ScarletSprites But it should be compared with other digital ports/emulators (PS4, switch etc.) and not original hardware. Of course it will never be on par with real hardware (analogue video output) on a zero delay CRT arcade monitor.
I felt obligated to mention it since I noticed, but would agree there is a fair amount of bias having played it on original hardware. How much of it is due to that versus the actual software emulation which is nearly unavoidable, is to be determined.
Nice review! I'm glad snk sent you one, as I definitely see you as a reliable source for neogeo info. You've got me more interested in buying this myself. I think I have over 20 fightsticks and was kind of dismissive of this setup, but it seems like it has potential. I'm most curious about the input lag. Do you think it's truly related to the emulation, or perhaps is it partially related to the buttons and stick having a different feel for activation compared to a Sanwa? Also, are you aware of how much lag is inherent to the tv/monitor you were on?
Thanks for the kind words, much appreciated man. As far as the lag goes it’s really hard for me to say. I felt obligated to mention it, but it’s difficult to discern whether or not what I was experiencing was excessive. I’m used to playing these on MVS and a CRT, so there is of course going to be more lag than on originals. My TV is generally pretty good as far as lag, it’s a TCL S405 and is rated at 14.6ms
@@ScarletSprites oh yea I would say TCL is among the best in the lag department. Well now I'm curious on how material the lag is. I'm not one of those that freaks out about hearing of a couple of frames or anything, and I only really care if it's high enough to make a material difference in gameplay. Doesnt sound terrible or anything at least.
I recently bought myself the Neo Geo min international (brand new for only 60 bugs) and it is...well a really cute nice collectors Item (if you have a heart for the good old 90's video games magic). But I'm not certain if I should get this one...is it possible to add more games or is in the planing? 20 Fighting games wich I all own for ages by now...mehh it fall's a bit short in games right? 🤔🤔 Well nonetheless great video again thx^^
That’s a tough call. I think the Arcade Stick Pro is a better overall product, and imo it’s almost instantly better due to the button mapping and unfiltered video output. But ultimately it comes down to the games, and if you’re underwhelmed by them I can’t see most people playing this very long. SNK really needs to get on with pushing the remaining 18 games out to consumers.
I hear you. Twenty games all in the same genre is a hard pill to swallow. I’m really surprised they didn’t mix it up just a little. I’m guessing we will see color variants that contain different games.
Wait what?!? A neo geo fan who’s favorite genre isn’t fighting games?? It’s time to rethink your life. That’s like being a sushi fan who doesn’t care for fish. I mean you got shrimp and crab rolls which are good but most sushi contains fish! Ok I only joke, nice review I love this thing. Thanks!
When it comes to promoting their brand and their games SNK has been killing it. So I am not that surprised that SNK sent you the product. If anything it just goes to show how great you are doing at covering their content.
Thanks man, I do try to focus a large part of the channel on SNK/Neo Geo. So while I’m small, a lot of the subs are for Neo Geo related things I suppose.
To be honest I think the design is gimmicky and toy like, a white gigantic NGCD pad with a ball top stick does not make any sense. Something mimicking the original Neo Geo stick would have been better. Also 45 degrees scanlines is something that can't even exist in real life, I wonder what they were thinking when they decided to implement that.
That’s fair, the aesthetics of design will always be subjective. I really didn’t mind it as much as I thought but it could use a little help with additional graphics or trim. The scanlines themselves just aren’t done well imo, and yes, why the hell you’d ever want them running at a 45 is beyond me.
Nice review. Heard hidden games have been found when digging through the code. Maybe they'll unlock and/or add more games with future firmware updates. With all that stuff behind you, I would have loved to see your reaction to Terry in Smash
You’d have been disappointed actually, lol. I’m actually not a Smash Bros guy, I didn’t even bother buying it for Switch. It’s just never been a game I could get into.
Scarlet Sprites ah! Well at least it created an influx of new people interested in KoF and related stuff!.... Like myself! :p
Yeah I totally agree. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that he was added and that SNK is getting involved again. That particular game just isn’t my thing.
Good vid and it's definitely better than the mini. Thinking about getting this stick and plugging in a rpi 4 when retropie is officially supported :).
Oh I can only imagine the mods that will come once this gets into some clever people’s hands!
Awesome Review bud! My favorite one so far!
Thanks man, greatly appreciate the support!
Loving the Mike Tyson Punchout soundtrack in the background.
Hah, it’s one of my favorites. Just felt like slipping that into the background.
I thought the same thing love that game
This is the first I’m hearing of lag, I wonder how bad it is it.
@@alessioscandy Now I want to know if the ps4 versions have input delay. Damn. I wonder if fightcade runs good?
I recently bought myself the Neo Geo min international (brand new for only 60 bugs) and it is...well a really cute nice collectors Item (if you have a heart for the good old 90's video
games magic).
So it looks decent, but I want more than 20 games at that price. If more get added with no price increase, I may be on board. Thanks for the review!!
I hear you. Twenty games all in the same genre is a hard pill to swallow. I’m really surprised they didn’t mix it up just a little. I’m guessing we will see color variants that contain different games.
Always a pleasure bro. 8^)
Anthony..
Thanks!
It’s a pretty good bang for your buck device. Cool that the stick works on other devices too. Glad you’re enjoying it!
When it comes to promoting their brand and their games SNK has been killing it. So I am not that surprised that SNK sent you the product. If anything it just goes to show how great you are doing at covering their content.
Thanks man, I do try to focus a large part of the channel on SNK/Neo Geo. So while I’m small, a lot of the subs are for Neo Geo related things I suppose.
so this thing has a button that no one knows what it does? PUSH IT!!! :D
Hah, it’s a slider. Apparently it changes the mode so that it can be used on a PC and possibly other consoles with a USB port.
SNK goodness.
I’m probably going to cave in
Do it.
The neo geo mini was made like a piece of junk. great selection of games housed in trash.
