My Life in Gaming makes documentaries, deep dives into retro console hardware, and more. - Ігри
Being able to reconfigure the buttons means the eight button layout makes sense as a NeoGeo, as it allows you to recreate the square layout, the arcade horizontal line layout, and even the wonky arcade bent line layout (where BCD was in a line, but A was off at an even steeper angle.) Save states also still make sense, even with infinite continues. Infinite continues means you still have to be able to beat the entire match; save states allow you to save after successful rounds or even mid-round and restart from there if things go bad. Don't forget that some SNK bosses could get particularly cheap, and players might feel they need every edge they can get. (Which isn't much different from how people use save states in any game emulators, or even how people have long used quicksaves in PC games.
Do RGB101 series on Neo-Geo please. I think there's a lot of people who you could introduce to the AES and MVS system.
Irisaurus Rex I would love this.... but they will unfortunately need a lot of research. The AES and MVS is somewhat a complicated subject for video quality because of the different methods of the component, RGB, S-Video and some makeshift open source HDMI mod.
Not to mention the AES was engineered very poorly by today’s standards.
Will need the gurus on this topic for sure
Been asking for this since their channel had less than 5k subs. They're either haters or lazy. Not sure anymore.
It would be a short episode. Neo Geo AES supports RGB natively. Buy a SCART cable and plug it in.
@@velosiped135 I think I meant the 201 OR 301 series then. There is a lot to talk about as far as the system goes. Much more then any other they've covered so far. RGB output would just be a small part of it.
@@velosiped135 There's a lot to it...the jailbar ridden native RGB of AES is terrible...an RGB bypass is required.
oh yeah, the audio is totally supposed to be like that (although there's a bit too much high end, as per emulations of the YM soundchips), the samples are actually all blown out to shit in those games to sell the OOMPH, it's hilarious
Yes, but if you listen to this vid with good speakers or headphones you'll realize that they are more blown than usual.
@@xmaverickhunterkx i'm a full time music + sound producer and was listening with studio cans, hahaha; what you're referring to is the additional high-end caused by lack of filtering. the samples literally just sound like that. go and rip 'em yourself, it's incredible (i mean that in a good way, i love the hyper-distorted impact sounds)
Sleeping Cocoon I won't give you my credentials, but I still think you're wrong.
Don't mean to insult or offended.
@@xmaverickhunterkx but... i'm absolutely positively not. you can crosscheck on dozens of videos on YT of the game running on real hardware and you can rip the samples for yourself. that is legitimately just how they sound. here, this is from a soundtrack CD: ua-cam.com/video/Ry5Qorlsd2M/v-deo.html check the heavy impacts around 0:58 in particular. this is just how they are. hell, here. i just decoded the ADPCM-A data from the one of KOF2000's ROMs, here are a few unedited impact sounds: heckscaper.com/kof00_KOF2K_V1ROM.mp3 - this is just how the game sounds.
@@SleepingCocoon wait, heckscaper... like, halley? that’s awesome lol
Thank God for you guys at My Life In Gaming!!!
Your review skills are improving. It's tough to get the language of reviewing down let alone maintain it while having a discussion with another person, but you guys are getting better with practice. Way to go.
Honestly he complains too much
What a pleasant surprise! A MLIG with a DF guest appearance. Nicely done guys!
14:57 From the teeny tiny audio sample you've shown here, it is actually correct. The audio samples themselves of KOF2000 have that distortion to begin with, just to give it more oomph I guess.
There's not really anyway to tell on YT once it's gone through the stages but you'd have to hear it in-person I'd say to work it out. It may not be much of an issue though.
2000 was very crunchy
That was an excellent review, it was extremely helpful.
Thank you for making the video.
It took 8 months, but around 560 arcade games work on it now, and is worth owning now.
This was awhile ago. How do you add??
hylo?
I suspect SNK will bring different versions of this stick. I want a shooter version.
no need, the games are already hidden there, it's been confirmed this stick has close to 40 games built in with possible add ons
Nick Berry - me too!!!
Emanuel Rivera - if in fact it does have hidden games I wish they would hurry up and announce them. For goodness sake why not tell people??
Reagan Dow they did already bro! Snk made an announcement at the beginning of the month on their twitter stating there’s hidden games and a way to add more games but have yet said how as of yet, but it has been looked into already and someone unlocked the games but won’t make it public out of the respect of snk, i mean you can do it if you can soldered a usb port into and add an exe file but i feel that once this stick gets released in the US we will know more and i’ll be waiting! I’m hoping SNK direct will be a way to access their catalog in the future
Upgrade packs are coming
women's team kof 2k theme... that bring back some memories from the arcade days
Squared gate is the norm for fighting games they did a really good job with the arcade stick.
Man, I AM EARLY.
Always good to see a vid from you all.
Oh heck yeah, a new episode approaches!
Seriously guys, do an Xbox video (not 360, not One, just Xbox).
There is so much to unfold about it (VGA output, BIOS flashing, HDMI options...). Also, the revisions of the console are so different (480p issues with 1.6, better Scart options with certain video processor chips).
Please do it guys... Internet needs it.
Or you can just search up another channel that'll cover that.
No
I heard rumors that there are more games hidden on it. Windjammers would be a must have for me.
I've seen a post with a short vid on the ModMyClassic discord about it. Looks like you need root access to combine the 2 game.ini files to unlock the hidden games.
Someone 'broke' the controller and not only accessed the extra games but was able to install a hack allowing other systems roms to be played on the system too.
I know I've seen the post on reddit, I got my Stck yesterday and tried the hack, until now it runs fine.
MLiG mini - still 22 minutes. I love it!
A good review and useful to me. I need to see what SNK will do with it now.
Excellent review guys. Please, do the same with Capcom home arcade .
As much as love Metal Slug, Shock Troopers, Blazing Star, and Super Sidekicks, having just fighting games is not an issue, I actually like that, they have an amazing selection too. I just don't like the round shape, and the colorful buttons of the controller. I would prefer something like the AES arcade stick, that one is actually slick.

Square gate is the standard gate in Japanese arcades. Octagon gate is American. Neither is superior, just personal preference based on what you're used to. I don't remember any time a Japanese player had trouble dominating a tournament with a square gate.
The 4 buttons in a row is standard for Neo Geo arcade machines, it's why all modern sticks have that.
The fact there are to rows is because of Capcom fighters. Both layouts accounted for.
@Prashanth PanickerIt's really down to the player when it comes to execution Square is 100% superior in the case of being forced to actually learn the motion or learn shortcuts for them since it's evenly divided, Circle gate is very much a preference thing and is a lesser Korean Gate less due to being more loose, Korean Gate less has the advantage to quickly snap to center the center (which is why Tekken is fantastic on them), octagonal is the middle ground when it comes to gates.
Back then that was true. But nowadays, nearly every stick has a square gate
@Prashanth Panicker Believe it or not, on square, hadokens, quarter circle backs, and shoryukens are more difficult on square gates, SHMUPs like Ikaruga are more difficult than square gates, (you need the extra directions to make more slight precise movements) But I mean if all you played were square gets you'd probably be more used to it? I'm not sure, more directions means it's more precise
I mean how hard is it really to get scan lines right??? integer scaling, no filtering at all, scanlines, done! Its the thing that lets me down every time with these devices...i literally would have already purchased this if they did it right. I have an OSSC so cannot pass hdmi through for the scalines either...thats one area the framemeister has it, although from the input lag observations an extra frame of lag is the last thing needed in this example. Bah!!! Guess i'll be sticking with my CMVS and OSSC.
can i use the neo geo mini controler on this as main controler?..and dont use the stick?please tell me thank you so much
hi, what's the name of your into music and can i listen to the whole track somewhere ? it's a catchy earworm and once heard, i can't get it out of my head 😉 thx
Clicky sticks now longer hard to make?
The individual game settings are like that with all the games. The ACA Nintendo Switch game ports need to be set up individually as well. It's just the way SNK programed them originally to be run in MVS cabs.
if you buy two, can two player matches be played? connecting them to each other?
Dbn Poldermans Yes.

My two favorite gaming channels coming together to review something is quite the unexpected surprise. Get game sack in there to make you some skits and do some game reviews, and you'd have basically the UA-cam equivalent of Voltron.
i still use and love mine
i use it on mister and pc
the built in titles are serviceable as well
made a great gift also
I agree about the game lineup. It's honestly kind of surprising that they didn't stick a lot of the non-fighters on there (it's not like there's extra licensing that goes into providing games they fully own, right?). I was also under the impression that this thing would have higher quality parts, too. It's nice that it looks and feels good, but I was expecting Sanwa or Seimitsu parts. Sort of a missed opportunity if you ask me.
They aren't Sanwa or Seimitsu, but they are surprisingly nice components nonetheless. You are getting your money's worth.
hi, i have a question if neo geo arcade stick pro can connect to ps4 ?
i can't run Kaitei Daisensō this saturn game ,how could i do?
I like this idea: The Size of the Arcade Stick compared to Capcom's Version that it's so bulky just for 2 Player and more than one Save Slot. I wish the Street Fighter IIs on the 30th Anniversary Collection had more than one Save Slot. Especially for Chun Li's Super Version Endings. 😑
And you guys really like use that Metal Gear Solid 2 sound effect. 🙂
is that "Children" by Robert Miles in the background?
It's "I-can't-believe-it's-not-Children" from Garou Mark of the Wolves
I owned an aes a decade ago and these things are neat a nice way to support snk and carry around to evangelize to the snk way somewhat. I'd rather have an aes again or better yet an mvs cab or consolized mvs
Having 16:9 is actually great for people who would like to have their consoles used on a CRT when converting from Hdmi to composite, had a friend who loves his CRTs and when he played his Nes Classic on it, the aspect ratio was squished up and was awful
bro YES! I do this. My neo geo mini, pc engine mini, and PlayStation classic can force 16:9 which corrects the squishing! Playing games on my CRT I got for $20 off Craigslist with my inexpensive adapter is great. Also I don't notice the blurry mess when I plug the neo geo mini into my CRT. Not sure if it not being way upscaled is helping or if I just don't have the amazing eyes some of you have?
how is the output quality?
That GameStop Component switch is the same one I have :)
My life in gaming min is like over 20 minutes. God thats great
Scanlines look ok to me, prob wouldnt use them but at least its a clear image. Both smooth scaling and pixel perfect look great imo, even with smooth on, it improves slightly better picture than the Mini. Overall very happy with this + Gamelinq for $99 on Amazon currently. Great price and currently 12 extra games to unlock also, 32 in total from 40 Included. Just need 4-5 Top Titles adding to make this a must own, Turf Masters Golf, Blazing Star, Pulstar and a Bassball 2.
So when are you guys covering the "RAD2X?" :D I've also heard of some new HDMI mods in the work.
[Try4ce] We don't have one yet, but plan to do it alongside all the junk HDMI cables.
This is for the people that only want the fighting games I'm disappointed that double dragon wasn't on there but I will definitely get one didn't know if I should get the mini or this thanks for the video
I hope you got this or at least get this over the mini. I have it and enjoy it. It has more than just fighting game. Out of the box its loaded with 20 games, yes fighting games but there on 20 additional games locked away on the system. Check out MadlittlePixel video out that.
ua-cam.com/video/mEBxe92qhDk/v-deo.html
4:16 what are those speakers behind him?
Did you guys notice any difference in output resolution between the Neo Geo Arcade Stick vs Mini? They look the same to me but others say they are different.
I’m so glad :’) to see there’s people in the USA that know about The King Of Fighters :’)
So did they end up doing anything to update the firmware?
You can play the entire Neo Geo + CPS 1, 2, and kinda 3 libraries on both this and the MVSX easily now. Well worth every penny at this point.
You can't rush the special commands. There's a rhythm to input that's fairly small compared to SF, you can't just blurt out the whole command within 3 frames and expect it to work; and you can't really dawdle either.
Why would I buy this over ACA Neo-Geo games again!?
The fact that it only has fighting games on it doesn't bother me too much - these are some amazing games - but the fact you'll probably end up playing all of them single player does though.
Just like with the original AES then. 😏
It's odd that I watched this after I watched a video that explained how to upload more games into the fight stick.
What music is being used in this? I thought i recognised a pop/trance song ?!
sounds like chiptune version of robert miles
I thought the same!! I was even thinking the background music is from some NeoGeo game and Robert Miles copied it!
Yeah. Rock's Theme from Garou: Mark of the Wolves. It has the the main melody of Robert Miles' Children inside.
Input lag may or may not be the problem...but based on 15:45 it's audio delay (once again) that is the problem.
Still waiting on the MVSX episode....especially because you can play the entire Neo Geo + 90's Capcom arcade games on both now...
The game selection is about the only reason I wouldn't pick up. If they'd offered a more diverse selection, I would've been more interested in this. If it turns out to be hackable, I'll be all over it. Might wait for a variant deco though.
I’m failing to see how SNK/Playmore keeps releasing these products...which keep failing due to internal quality complaints...yet they keep churning out item out of item with the same issues and only slight refinements.
If they just released the mini in a Japanese and American style cabinet variants with proper parts and properly sourced emulation at a higher price...the problem would have been solved ages ago.
The games being all fighting games really sucks because this hardware is pretty cool. I hope it can be hacked and games can be added.
They actually found nearly 20 more games hidden and a way to add more (and some comments say that SNK knows and wants to make them more easily accessible)
Sadly that's pretty much what the NeoGeo is known for: fighting games. There are other great games like Metal Slug, 2020 Super Baseball, Zed Blade, but people knows the platform mostly because of games like KOF, Fatal Fury and Samurai Showdown.
@@ChalkTeacher Adding more genres to the system is an excellent way to acquaint those people with all the other SNK games then.
What about versus mode ??
The scanline thing is funny because the whole scanlines on a flat panel display thing has essentially been solved, there are open source shaders out there written to emulate not just the scanlines but also the phosphor dot arrangement with pixel accuracy. These shaders are so good that they pretty much look exactly like a CRT, yet these mini consoles continue to screw it up. Kind of incredible.
What do you prefer, the bat or the balls?
B great when a hack comes out for this and the Capcom one too. Def nice collectables but real heads would already have a nice stick and access to a quality way of playing these games.
Sooooooo, no micro switches either? This felt like your most improvised video ever.
Meanwhile, I've been enjoying NEO-GEO games with USB Saturn gamepads on my MiSTer FPGA system 😋
Aren't there unlockable games on this?
Why wasn't that covered
[Coury] We do talk about that I hope it happened soon. There is no official way to unlock these games currently and the method that has been recently discovered was released after we made the video.
Now that it has been revealed that metal slug 1 and 2 and 40 total games are hidden can you update the video?
Iguana 99 you can only access two extra games, why update it when there are potentially another 18 games to unlock yet?
@@aseddon130 Well they can do an update now considering there is a way to unlock all the game without waiting for SNK. Check out MadLittlePixel video on it.
ua-cam.com/video/mEBxe92qhDk/v-deo.html
20 minute “mini” episode 😂👍
Lol he is in Germany? Greetings from Germany too 😁🇩🇪
Grüß Gott! 🍺
Grüß Gott, servus und wie geht's. 😁
Kölsches Alaaf ^_^
The main menu interface definitely looks like a copy of Switch but with less details
and a horrible framerate
So you can't connect the Neo Geo Stick to a PC right now? That's odd.
The reason why they didn't get the scanlines correct is because they look at scanlines as a gimmick; a mistake to correct. So re-adding it, they're inclined to make an artistic statement rather than emulating something they saw as a problem to be corrected.
wait so player 2 can only use a the controller they cant connect a stick
Juan Valentin if you had two of these then in theory you could plug one into the other and use that as player two.
MLiG Mini: lasts more than 20 minutes :v
Hearing that emulator developers thought the pixel mode looked unappealing means they will get lower and lower sales on these types of products. As fans of 90's arcade and console games get older and older and busier and busier, there won't be a market for it. We'll all just be sitting around watching Game Sack videos where Joe stopped dyeing his hair and we can't tell when the main video ends and the sketch begins. #GREEEENDAAAWWWWG
Well hello notification squad
How can these guys be considered gaming experts if they comment on resolution and input lag but not audio lag? It's a big problem with all of these systems lately. Only one that was close to correct was the SNES Classic.
Nobody cares, brah.
I love fighting games. I plan on picking this up soon.
"Fighting games boring how darw You!!! Lol You have a Neo Geo Mini use the arcade stick as the clicky stick you guys complained about at the same time get your variety there with the Mini lol... Man you can't please everybody I'm sorry"...
Yours Truly,
- Neo-Geo
Since you already can hock this thing up to a computer. It should be a simple way to sync up and download the NeoGeo games already purchased from GOG and Steam.
So...is it not possible to have a second player use another Arcade Stick Pro? They're stuck with the (horrible) pads?
Nope, they can absolutely be linked together.
Has anyone been able to open one of these up, and rearrange the button positions?
Are the parts interchangeable with Sanwa buttons/sticks?
They are
I am wondering if Framemeister can improve the video on this thing. I have access to a 1080p plasma and 1440p monitor. Proper scan lines would be awesome.
This joystick working to Xbox one ??
japanese roms has red blood, the right way to play these games
and bouncing tits, don't forget that most important part 😁
@@Waifu4Life As a lesbian, I agree.
@@kaitlyn__L As a straight male I support your right to agree.
All 3 WH games, but no KoF '96?! :(
A jailbrake would be nice thou to add more games. Maybe another version that has other types of games. I kinda like neogeo for the non fighting games. Thou they're alot of fighting games based on kof and such.
I like puzzle bubble and the metal slug games the most.
There is a video already to switch out the stick which is sweet.
Thou i think ill stick with the MiSTer since i just got the 128mb ram in. Plays the games fine just a bit more tinkering to get it perfect, needs to be addressed. my stick I have is high quality and works with the MiSTer fine.
Generally, all the games on the Neo Geo Arcade Stick Pro look pretty good. But I am disappointed that there isn’t the first Last Blade (I love that one!) or Samurai Shodown but we can fix that. Eventually at some point, we can add more games to it as we do please. I love fighting games! Especially the Japan-made ones and even the Japan-exclusive ones kick a lot of ass, a lot of them do, you should be grateful for that because I am. In my opinion, Japan makes highly superior fighters to their western cousins. I love SNK, Capcom and Arc System Works and many other companies like that for their awesome fighters. I certainly feel that the genre was perfected in like the 6th generation or so. I do indeed have interest in picking up a Neo Geo Mini despite its flaws (all of its flaws could be fixed with a hack) and the Arcade Stick Pro.
I really like the scan lines tho...
Gentlemen you didn't address the real question on everyone's minds. Can I connect two of these to my Neo-Geo Mini? I want both player 1 and player 2 to be using a fight stick.
5 years ago I was on UA-cam and I seen this guy talk about the mini arcade cabinet that was made right here in the United States and he explained how the company made they own raspberry arcade chip and these people took their time putting games on this arcade machine which is called the mini arcade and it looks exactly like arcade1up but it's a lot smaller see you have to click on the titles and then it goes into the games such as Sega PlayStation 2 Nintendo Atari and you literally have to click on the name of the system to get to the games very expensive they have the one player joystick which has 64 gigs up games and then there's the two player joystick which has 280 gigs of games when I seen this I was like wow you actually customize it yourself they got stickers Galore for it you customize the buttons the LED lights you even could pick hot what type of system of Games you want on it
And the problem I have with this whole thing is everybody copying it and doing it wrong but it was a raspberry arcade chip that they made how to make the arcade cabinet good
What is the reason to buy one of these over a standard fighting stick?
All those s1ck emulated ROMs. Seriously though, you'd be giving money to SNK who do deserve it.
The snk controller looks so cool
@@DenkyManner They did make great games, no doubt. But have they done anything but pachinko machines and rereleases in the last 25 years?
@@RisingRevengeance They released KOF XIV in 2016 and a new Samurai Shodown this year. Don't ask questions without search for information next time 😉😉
@@Keezawea Fair enough nothing of importance then.
Can you guys do a video on scan lines? Why they exist? how they originally looked, what the appeal is, and why these classics systems try to use them, and how some get them right and most dont .
I understand scan lines. For some things they look good. But for most of these systens I dont see the point. Im curious as to why they're a thing.and who asks for them. It doesn't seem like anybody uses them. So why are they there? Other than a novelty. I feel like a video on thus would do well cuz a lot of ppl don't get it. And are probably confused as to why Corey laughs at this sticks bad attempt
The RGB Masterclass series goes into it a bit.
[Try4ce] This video in particular goes into quite a bit of detail on it: ua-cam.com/video/RAi8AVj9GV8/v-deo.html
No windjammers :(
Subtítulos en español!!!
Never understood the use of scan-line filters. They all look bad to me. They don't look like a CRT at all.
If you really wanted to, you can adjust the brightness and saturation on your television to pretty closely match a CRT with the SNK scanline filter. Not sure why anyone would go to all that trouble, but it's doable.
Will we continue to see the standard scripted videos?
[Coury] Yes, absolutely. This was our third MLiG Mini video, and we do have been doing fully scripted videos in between. This just gives us a way to cover subjects that don't quite justify a full fledged production.
can you make full neogeo arcade machine for playing in gaming center?...
if you have then sent me your email?
Arcade = ball top. Can't wrap fingers around bat top for all directions. You have to push and pull it around, instead of guiding the ball around in all directions with the same grip. Basically going left and right with a bat isn't the same as it is with a ball. Seeing how you use a stick here, 4;26 your grip is why you prefer bat.
Snk should just make new games such as a new metal slug
Does anyone use these phony scanline filters? It always makes the picture look worse on all these emulator systems
Some scanline filters are pretty good. The ones Nintnedo uses on their minis and on the Switch look quite nice to me and I almost always use them. The ones used on the NEOGEO and Arcade Archives console releases are also pretty good and adjustable.
I use them sometimes. On an OLED phone, it can get pretty close (if the filter was sensible enough to make brighter lines thicker).
10:30 what game is this? its animations look soooo smooth i love it
Garou Mark Of The Wolves/ Fatal Fury Mark of The Wolves
Yeah, Garou Mark of the Wolves. If you have a Switch, it’s on sale right now on the eShop due to Terry now in Smash.
thanks!
Neo Geo why not just put as many games as possible on the system.
