Glad to see that SNK are recognising you as a Neo Geo ‘influencer’ - here’s hoping they send more stuff your way to cover on the channel. Keep the good work up bud, it’s always a pleasure to watch your content. Ps - where did you get your Neo Geo prints from that you have framed? Noticed some cool ones in your last video too!
Thanks Andy, it was nice to get this to be honest. It felt a little validating, lol. The prints have come from a variety of places, I got quite a few from ArcadeShock a few years ago and the Metal Slug was from SNK as part of their reprint series.
Scarlet Sprites Well it’s long overdue! Better late than never though hey? Thanks for the pointer on the Arcadeshock website - just had a look; they have some cool NG posters available on their site and they ship worldwide too 😎
You know what? I don't think it's actually that bad in terms of being a normal stick.. I thought the shape would make it awful, but looking at it like this it's pretty darn cute. Pretty cool how easy they made it to mod and mess around with. I kind of want one now..
Nice tear down Joe. It looks cool and I like that it can be modded. But I just can’t imagine dragging a long hdmi cable across the room so I can sit on the couch to play this thing. And then having to plug in a power supply as well. Kind of a deal breaker for me. Too bad they didn’t just make a tiny console that plugs into your hdmi and then have the stick work with it via Bluetooth.
I will say Mike, the HDMI cable thing is a pain in the ass. I also find it odd that given that limitation, they didn’t toss in a lengthier one in the box. It’s for sure a shortcoming.
Great video. I'm glad you are doing this in stages so you hit every level of consumer... you got something for the tinkerer that wants to get into the guts of the mechanical, you got something for (maybe) the hacker that wants more games to load into the interface or use a completely different interface all together... and the low-tech consumer that would love to get into the Neo Geo world on a shoe string budget and wants to see if this is a solid purchase. I'm really looking forward to hearing what you think of the interface, and how the game play compares to an MVS as far as feel and input response. From what I'm hear from folks like MadLittlePixel is that the build quality on this unit is quite the value over the CAPCOM Home Arcade which uses Sanwa, but you pay through the nose for it.
Thanks man. Like you mentioned, I’m working on something a little more traditional as well. It’s just been fun to get ahold of something I didn’t think I’d have, and one that fits into the Neo/arcade hardware genre. It’s a decent piece of hardware that straddles the line between being a good entry level stick as well as something a bit more for someone who wants to take the beginner steps at modding.
I was actually hoping they’d release a sleeve for it like that. It seems like a prime opportunity. The Big Red hasn’t received a lot of love yet from the modern SNK yet though.
Ahh, the correct button mapping @your Red, Yellow, Green, Blue MVS pattern... How it should be lol Can't wait to see how this thing mods! The Neo Geo Mini got some love from the modding community (One can even play off a USB) but, this seems to be getting a bit more of a promise for modding opportunities.
You have to correct those atrocities when you can! This is for sure a nice middle ground of entry level for the mainstream but with modding possibilities for the slightly more adventurous people. Once this sees a price drop and more people start picking it up as a novelty, I bet we will see some creative upgrades. On that note, I doubt it will be long before the first RetroPie is loaded into this as well.
This will undoubtedly come in black. Probably also red, blue, holiday, etc. It’ll be interesting to see if they do different genres for each. A black Metal Slug (or Big Red style striped) would be cool.
Just bought one from Amazon and their great deal. Are there any sticks out there that can be swapped? I cannot find the Seimitsu LS-56 anywhere in the States.
Probably anything you can attach the the flat mounting plate to should work; the LS-33, LS-5X, and the LS-62. Just be sure to get the fastener type sticks unless your cool with rewiring all of the internals to a pcb.
I don’t honestly know what size it was. I’m pretty sure I’ve used various sizes on my candy cabs when rotating ball tops. I think you’d be fine so long as you don’t go with anything really huge or anything tiny like an eyeglass set.
Ah, no sorry what I meant is there's a youtube channel called Scanline City where he tears down and modifies all kinds of arcade sticks, you'd probably like it!
Hah, I’ve never considered that for a stick like this. I was thinking of this as an homage to the original AES stick. I saw a dude put bat tops on his candy cab on a forum and the guy got roasted.
@@ScarletSprites pfffft, forget people who don't think out of the box. I've owned AES consoles since they debuted and only in the last 5 years have I switched to bat top. It gives me better control in every game. I switched all my sticks including AES sticks to red bat tops. 😎
Probably. The issue I have is that all of my sticks are the PCB type and this stick has the quick disconnects individually for each switch. I might be able to mock it up and just show how you would do it though. I think you’ll likely need a Kowal universal plate to be safe and/or make life easier.
Most standard balltops are swappable, but it may depend on what stick you swap in. I linked all the parts I used in the Seimitsu mod video description.
Only thing I would really wanna mod is the restrictor plate to an octagonal one, but that doesn't look too easy to do. How is it just swapping out the stick entirely?
It’s possible with the right restrictor you might be able to lay it over top, I’ve had success with that on Seimitsus but this is a different animal. I’m thinking that something like a Kowal universal plate would give you the four corners for the stock screws and then from there you could attach a Sanwa or Seimitsu to that. You may need a $2 shaft extender to screw on where the balltop goes and then your balltop on that. Once I get some legit time I’ll revisit adding your own stick to this. I didn’t have a spare, and honestly really didn’t feel like pulling sticks off my arcades to make an attempt during this overview.
Review is so thorough that my man here stripped and changed clothes. Definitely RAY-CUM-MENDED for hot Scarlet on Neo action! All joking aside, nicely done. I'm looking forward to the full review.
Thank You for fixing those buttons! #rightingwrongs
Spreading the good word so that no person shall have to live with such atrocities.

Love the arcade button layout.

Here’s a spoiler for the review...it’s actually not that bad.
Bro!!! Snk respects your channel! Whaaaaaat!? You came up !
I don’t look for or expect things like that to happen, but it was nice to get that email.
Very informative and well done, thank you for making this.
Thanks for watching man!
It's nice that this is easily customizable for enthusiasts with just a few limitations.
Agreed, it’s a nice balance of being something both entry level as well as mildly more capable for those who want it to be.

I want to see you max out upgrades with the best components to see how much we can upgrade this stick.
I’ve been considering that as well. The temptation will be too much and I will probably cave by the end of the week.

i love that you're shooting in 4K w00t!
Add some (adhesive vinyl) red lines to make it more Neo geo control panel look alike!

You can say that again Scarlet. Like they told my as a young-en, "we learn from our mistakes". 8^)
Anthony..
oh snap. This is so good.
Thanks Linda!

@@ScarletSprites Oh for sure! I might drop a Pi-Zero in it for the fun of it when I get mine
Great content! Bought myself this one. The Sanwa octagonal can be used?
It been a while, I can’t recall on the stock stick. I used a Seimitsu replacement stick and the octagonal Seimitsu gate.
I think we could put the insides into and aes stick. Got a feeling theyll rerelease this in black.

Amazing video!
Man the first thing I may do is hardwire the button order back to default..... The wide ball top looks go I may buy one, where’d you get it from?
The green one? I believe that’s a 45mm I got from focusattack.com
What size flathead screwdriver would you recommend to unscrew the ball top with?
I don’t honestly know what size it was. I’m pretty sure I’ve used various sizes on my candy cabs when rotating ball tops. I think you’d be fine so long as you don’t go with anything really huge or anything tiny like an eyeglass set.
I like this , Joe ! But how i can use with my HAS ? I must go with Undamned route , right ? It's time to learn more about Sanwa parts ^_^
From a poor man's John's Arcade to a poor man's Scanline City? 😂
Just kidding great vid as always!
You’re not kidding, the artificial scanline generation on this is gross. Looks better with it off anyways. Thanks for stopping by again man!

Ah ok, I gotcha!
It's all about the Bat top my friend. 😁

I tought i am the only one who maps the Neo Geo buttons Like this on 6/8 Button Stick. :)
The world needs to be shown the finer things in life my friend.
My ball screws off without having to hold the screw in place. I just bought the stick. Should I return it?
I fixed this by tightening the bottom screw. It stays in place now.
You can also add plumbers tape to help it from turning. It should be fine though if it’s new and you tightened that screw.
Awesome! Thanks for the tip.
Could you put a sanwa stick in and plate ? Great teardown thank you.
Probably. The issue I have is that all of my sticks are the PCB type and this stick has the quick disconnects individually for each switch. I might be able to mock it up and just show how you would do it though. I think you’ll likely need a Kowal universal plate to be safe and/or make life easier.
Nihongo Gamer actually already switched out the stick in this for a Sanwa

hi, i have a question if neo geo arcade stick pro can connect to ps4 ?
I’m not actually certain and unfortunately don’t have a PS4 to test on.

Needs to be painted black..... have china snk have shares in fisher price?
I actually don’t mind it as much as I thought, but if the Neo Mini taught us anything I’m certain more colors will come.
@@ScarletSprites 😂😂😂 true dat .... like yourself i have a mvs so anything like this is a hard sell... Neogeo gold X made me very suspicious 😆
