Just got myself a small McGregor 22 foot sailboat and was comparing The mercury pro kicker 20HP Vs 15HP practically the same other than a few indications noted : horse power 20HP/15HP as indicated on the cowling (?) 127 pounds / 130 pounds the heavier being the 15HP gear ratio: 2.15-1 (20hp) vs 2.42-1 (15HP) 138 watt output vs the (15HP) 145 watt A 9” three blade prop with a 9.1 pitch vs a four blade prop high thrust no other notations And a 20.3 cubic displacement on the (20HP) vs 21.4 (“deliverable”) according to what part of the spec you read, on a 20.3 cubic displacement every thing else appears the same. So now that you had some time with it, why don’t you give us a follow up review Displacement is a fixed number how can you get more it’s not turbocharged LOL I think you got your self the perfect little engine that can get you out of a bad situation and is great for trolling. P.S. the web page you got the kicker, I’m not sure I’m looking at the same page it didn’t looked kind of right can you send me a link or a quick note thank you Capt. keep up the go word
Hey Capt Dave, “redfish winner guy” here. Great video. Few weeks ago when we had a freeze warning down here in Middleburg I forgot to put my boats cranking batt on the charger so the cold wouldn’t draw it down. I was reminded the following Monday when she wouldn’t turn over at the end of my fishing day! “livewell runs off cranking batt as well” I will be correcting that soon...It sucked but I just put the new Minn Kota down as it runs on independent batt! set the fancy new auto pilot feature towards the boat ramp kicked back and had a soda and enjoyed the slow ride back to the truck. I was on a lake with no current but still took lil over an hour to get to boat ramp.... but hell still beats paddling and didn’t have to bother my fellow fisherman with a tow. Second motor on a boat never a bad idea. Good Job Side note for other viewers: if I would have had a set of jumper cables in the boat I wouldn’t have had this story to tell as my trolling motor battery that was on the charger was at full juice. They have been added to the “OH SHIT” box in the boat. I recommend you adding them to yours
Oh lesson learned for sure. I’m currently searching for a 2bank charger so they are both charging at all time when I’m off the water. Cranking batt in the transom and trolling bat in the bow!! Pain in the butt finding one with cables long enough to reach both batteries. Always something
wow...yep sure like that litl' dude. She purrs. I even have it on its own UH1 Agm battery. Just for up and down mostly. I like to pull start it. Just for kicks. It starts on the electric start too. The straps really keep it straight when tilted up. A very nice feature, too.
i had my boat out yesterday, in freezing weather again. But this time it was windy. My batteries lasted only 3 hours. Interesting that in the summer i have had days with 8 hours and batteries still not depleted. Yesterday they just died. Cold weather and wind is no good for trolling motors. Glad u got it working. Make some trolling videos, but not just showing the fish, show the process
YEP......I CARRY 60 GALLONS and a anchor...he, he, he. Don't do much trolling in our 5 knot tide. but when I do, in slow current spots. I will. Spanish Mackerel trolling is right around the corner at the inlet. GREAT trip for kids 👶👶
Captain Dave looking all like a kid with a new toy...good Job Captain. You'll be well pleased when you link it to your Suzy. You should get years of use enjoyment and service to your business...Happy hunting to the Wolf.
Hello sir just ordered this for my 20 foot key West wa. How fast do you think it will push my boat? Also, I'm near New to boats and this is my first boat just making sure you can raise the tiller handle straight up right when not in use.
yes, handle can go up when tilted up. bI have no idea how fast it pushes my boat or yours. Never had it a full throttle since Ive owned it. Fast enough, I'd say.
BETTER YET! ua-cam.com/video/tZBkdmHa618/v-deo.html But I'm actually thinki about ''re-powering'' with twin 115hp, and then getting a junk jon-boat for the kicker to go on.
@@jacobgreen6939 I would look at the 9.9 or 15. I liked the 9.9 with a low pitch prop due to lightweight. There are high thrust models in the 9.9 also.
Nice Job Capt. Was wondering what kind of top speed do you get with the 15 HP in your boat? I have a 23' I'm beginning the process with adding a 15 HP Mercury 4 stroke myself. Thanks for the videos.
I dont know. My boat is a 26 footet, but its aluminum plate. So not nearly as heavy as a glass boat. Ive never had the kicker wide open. Its just for cruising and trolling, but I can do 10 knots Im sure. I love this Merc 15. I believe its really a Tohatsu 15, made for Merc.
Great finally Capt. I am hoping you or someone can answer a question I have not been able to find an answer to. I have a 22 inch setback bracket with a swim platform like your Dave. My boat is a V bottom with approximately a 6 inch rise from bottom center to chine on outside. Question now , shouldn't the cavitation plate on my kicker be in align with my chine instead of the bottom center ?. It seems these kicker installs put the kicker to far down in the water I can not find any information on kicker height in relationship to bottom of hull. Just finding , " put it on " information .
Hi captain , River sailor from Costa Rica here, just got offered this merc but the sea pro versión. I cant find any videos of it and really wondering what differences does it have compares to the 20 efi. Thanks
Look in video description there's a whole lot more of these videos an entire series of installation it's made to be a kicker only longer shaft Thruster prop centering straps look at the others links are in video description
NO....NOT IN THE CURRENT WE HAVE❗❗❗ I added a steering rod. YOU HAVE NO SEEN EVERYTHING. ua-cam.com/video/tZBkdmHa618/v-deo.html Seriously ''MacGyver'd'' but very simple fix, because MERC has no way of adding a a steering rod, with the tiller arm. THEY JUST PLAIN, didn't care about it. But rave about how great the steering arm is.
SEND $$$......If you actually watched the 5 part series you'd see I put a connecting arm, so to steer via the big motor. Works fine and no '''big thousands spent''. EZ, and have a season of king mackerel trolling with it. Super plain, zero to go wrong, was a quick install. Have that silly handle just incase, and for what you saw....try outs.
why don't they make this in 20hp instead of 15hp? (deciphered) -I have no idea, ask Mercury. Maybe because no one needs a 20 long shaft auxiliary motor?
@@CaptDavesSportfishing This is very popular in the USA. As a Trollingmotor. But for me i will use it as a mainmotor. On my 4m boat. It sounds stupid but The kicker is better build shaft than original 20hp.
@@erikandrehoglund55 if so, you'd have to put it on a manual...or electric jack plate on the transom, because they are all long shafts, too long to work correctly (without loads of drag to get on plane efficiently) for a main high speed motor, plus change the prop from the 4 blade high thrust to a regular and correct 3 blade.
