    OH THE TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS OF GETTING A STEERING TIE ROD ON MY MERCURY 15 PRO-KICKER OUTBOARD MOTOR CONNECTED TO MY SEA STAR HYDRAULIC STEERING ON MY MAIN 250 SUZUKI.
    I GUESS, I WAS ASKING FOR SOMETHING VERY UNCONVENTIONAL (????) BECAUSE THERE'S NO REAL WAY OF JUST 'HOOKING UP'' ANY STEERING ROD TO THE MERC 15, WITHOUT ''CREATIVE ENGINEERING'' aka: MACGYVERING IT❗❗❗
    WHY DID MERCURY MAKE THIS SO NO STEERING ARM WILL MOUNT, WHILE KEEPING TILLER???????? BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE DOING ''YOU'' A FAVOR, WITH THE REDESIGNED TILLER STEERING ARM. THATS WHY❗👎
    CAN'T SAY THAT THERE'S JUST A EZ WAY TO TAKE '''''ANY'''' PANTHER TIE BAR SYSTEM, AND JUST HOOK IT UP. EVEN PANTHER HAS NO CLUE, I ASKED THEM!

      Can you tilt the kicker up without disconnecting the steer rod while the big motor is down?

    Wanted to drop a thank you for your video. I took some parts from it for my DIY install. As a note, the new SeaStar HC5346-3 are direct compatible with the panther brackets. I made a post on walleye central for my install for those not wanting to drill out their tiller handle. "Mercury 9.9 tiller Tie-bar"

    Very well described video that came close to answering a question I have ( not over thinking Capt ! ... ha ). Please bear with me as I tell you about my set up ...... I'm retired and building my last boat to travel the states with so , first of all I downrigger fish so of course my time is spent at the aft of the boat. I have a 1988 Yamaha 115 horse and if your familiar with those they have a huge cowling . My kicker is a 1990 Yamaha 9.9. I built a 22" set back outboard extension and a 6" Bobs Machine Shop hydraulic jack plate . My extension transom is 51" wide so that leaves me with 16" for my kicker so if I use a tie bar I will have enough room for my kicker . If no tie bar I have to use the Panther swim platform bracket and do not want to spend 300.00 for that is I can avoid it. I also installed a hydraulic steering system.
    Finally here is my question..... With the tie bar and the main hydraulic system can I steer from the rear with my kicker tiller handle and still move both motors from the rear. I do not know if the hydraulic system is loose enough to let it free up the main motor?.

      You must not have the steering Bar connected to turn the kicker you will not be able to turn with it connected because you certainly won't be able to turn against the hydraulic steering I can turn my Kicker with the steering bar disconnected only

    Just put my bracket on the same as you on the big motor on my 225 Optimax with sea star steering I had to grind down more than I think you did just to get it to go on so I could put the top bolt on and put a huge nut between the bolt to take up the slack. Glad you put on here that you ground down the spacer I had to do the same thanks for letting me know how you did it. My system is 20 years old so I agree with you and did you have to change the main bolt that holds the mount on the big motor I had to use a big nut to take up the space to be able to get it all tight ? I’m thinking about running to ace to and getting a shorter SS bolt

      my whole stern cylinder shit the bed, while breaking in my new 250 zuki a month ago. so I have all brand new everything, and just switched everything for my kicker on over, perfectly. Now getting all parts to take tiller off kicker and run control box on helm and key switch. 3/4s of parts from merc back ordered and will be a complete nightmare job....maybe by 2021??

      Capt Dave's Sport Fishing yea this one isn’t easy either. I have a 2000 ranger 620 and it’s my guide boat here for musky in Indiana and I needed a kicker for trolling and the parts I got was the same as you but mine is a remote control and the controller is kinda big and now I’m gonna have to cut a big hole to add the shifter and run all my cables back to the kicker Boy what is guides will go through just to put clients on fish and make sure they have a good time

    • @CaptDavesSportfishing
      @CaptDavesSportfishing  Рік тому

      no idea, never opened it up full throttle. I since sold the whole shootin' match to a guy who runs 50-60 miles offshore as a back up motor on a 25' fiberglass boat....ya know top speed will depend on type and size of boat, plus weather factors. mine here is a 26 foot alloy plate charter boat, with 5 people on it usually.

    I’m looking to put a 3.9 hp Mercury as a kicker to my 16’ Boston Whaler but I’m not really sure I need to hook up steering linkage. Is this really necessary if your main motor can act as a rudder?

    Tsk tsk, you know everything is supposed to cost a boat owner a minimum $1000 and be needlessly complicated. Especially if the idea is to make your boat more functional on the user end. Well done.
