    I would call that a mowing hazard, as I would get so mad that I would throw it across the yard and forget that is was there when I mowed.

    This design has been around for a very long time. It was first patented by W.C. Kress in 1930 (US Patent #1811137) and made by the JH Williams company shortly after from 1931 to the 1950s under model number 1999. There has been many clones since then after the original patent expired. They are adequate for emergency repairs but not practical in a shop environment. I've heard that some mechanics like to use them for removing oil drain plugs since many cars use many different sizes and it avoids the need to get an entire socket set for changing the oil.

    • @RustedCrown11
      @RustedCrown11 6 років тому +1

      we call em dog bones, and the lube techs don't even use them because the bulky design makes it hard to get to some drain plugs, i honestly can't even think of one reason to have one of these tools. they are pretty much useless and having a small bag of wrenches and sockets will always be better.

      @@RustedCrown11 In my old summer job fixing frat and sorority houses in the summer, we had an old Craftsman version of these 8-in-1 wrenches. It's most useful for stuff like bolting writing desks to walls or assembling bunk beds, the kind of stuff where your boss keeps buying whatever shitty furniture she first saw on Google rather than a standardized pattern of actually good furniture, and they come with different sized nuts. That's the niche where it actually helps. As soon as you start getting into bolts that need to have actual tension on them, like cars, it's not going to hold up

    I had a Kobalt Multi-Wrench about 10 years ago, similar design, and it had a piece you could swap out to allow you to use regular sockets on it too, it had 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 square connectors, as well as a small hex for using screwdriver bits and the like. One of my technicians 'borrowed' it and I didn't realize I lost it until another one brought it back from a job site 8 years later. So you can imagine how useful it actually was.

    Yes knuckle buster wrench type we called it in shop, plus the part got in the way for so many locations when needing a wrench. Great channel best of luck.

    We use these on drain plugs for oil changes. Keep one on the roll-around drain pot and you rarely need to grab a real wrench. That's about all they are good for. Great channel and love the honest reviews.

    Thank you, James. I was about to get the Tigerwrench as a gift for both my husband and son. Now, it's a no-go. I enjoyed your presentation, very upbeat, very true. It's a shame the way they baited and switched on the socket depth. The metal it's made of looks shiny and soft, it would last just a few torques anyway. Great help to us all!

    This thing is called a dog bone wrench. Maybe Good to fix bicycles and a few things around the house. On cars...well, you can use it for your oil change! As a mechanic like me, it’s pretty much useless. My suggestion: buy a small socket set instead, it will be a lot more useful.
    Thanks for the review.

    I have one of these wrenches; it's the version with the deeper sockets and I find mine very useful for many projects. Depending upon the specific application where 45 degree clearance is a problem, you can use it vertically with a screwdriver shaft through the opposite end basically forming a "T" handle.

    Hey my hometown Santa Ana. I tried that wrench out. My friend bought it, thinking he could reduce the weight on his tool bag (we go to the junkyard frequently). I didn't like it. I rather carry the extra weight than not be able to remove a part I need. And I don't like asking strangers to let me use their tools.

    From the differences you found between the ads and what you got. I suspect *Tiger Wrench* is simply a "brand name" used by remarketers. They have nothing to do with the manufacturing, and simply buy from the cheapest source at the time they need to restock. My guess is that quality control is not even a consideration. I personally would avoid it.

  • @Subfightr

    • @curtisharvey5579
      @curtisharvey5579 6 років тому

      Yeah, but if you're looking for taking up as little space as possible, this could be a good solution. For example if your kid doesn't believe in being prepared and you want them to have something, an all in one tool that fits in the glove box could get them to accept it.
      Personally I would never use this, I work for Stanley tools, I have plenty of real tools on me at all times, but this isn't marketed to me....

    I think that with a change so it does not have sockets but was made to fit to 1/4 and 1/2 sockets, then you could chose the length, size and type of socket you need for your work. Imagine that you need 4 different sizes for your work, one for the spark plugs and 3 other types, you could mount them all, start your work and get finished without having to search for the right socket on the floor or in your pocket.

    Every person who wrenches knows that those gimmicky tools are absolutely useless. especially when working on cars and machines since most bolts are in tight spaces and require extensions, swivels, and other tricks. You could never take a spark plug out with those because you’d need a deep wall version which would be so big that it would never fit anywhere near the plug itself

    My mom got me one of those for xmas like 10 years ago, honestly I have used it maybe 3 times but thats mainly because i have a dedicated socket set and this sits in a toolbox i used to have in my truck. Mine isnt tiger brand though its black and decker.
    I would recommend it to throw in a junk drawer for the average homeowner who doesnt already have a socket set and/or many tools but i wouldnt use it as a daily tool to replace a socket set. There's no way in hell you could work on a car with this. With sockets you have extentions, ratcheting motion and deep sockets for tighter places.
    I wonder how they didnt get sued by black and decker for the design unless its not patented by bnd.
    Edit: the black and decker looks like the prototype and is deeper on mine but it still doesnt help all that much, just a little bit.

    It's too small to get any torque on a nut, but it looks like the end of it would easily break. The bulkiness would certainly make it hard to get into tight spaces. Buy a decent socket set and a couple of adjustable wrenches and you'll be much happier.

    Just a different company trying to reinvent the wheel, these types of wrenches have been out for far longer than I could probably keep track. I know I bought one at least 15 years ago and I'm almost certain my grandpa had one from even longer before that. I have a Black & Decker one that has a built in ratchet, can't tell you how long it's been since I've actually used it on anything. The only real difference between this and older ones is that this uses that 12 point "spline" design that fits almost anything, problem is you lose grip on the fastener because the surface area is much smaller than a normal socket, you could actually cause more damage to the head of the fastener. it is nice if you have a wide open area with little obstruction and the fastener you're working on isn't completely seized up. It's one of those "perfect scenario" type tools.

      cujoedaman longer than that. I had one about 30 years ago and it was marketed for lug nuts specially. Similar to the dog bone wrenches for bikes

    I have not ever used a tiger wrench but I have used a similar item they are called dog bone wrenches they're okay for working on bicycles somewhat but yes they are problematic because most of the ones that you can buy the socket Wells are very shallow not much use around the house for them but they do have their place I used to carry one when I rode a bicycle a lot that and a pair of vice grips

    New subscriber here. I agree this tool is useful, but the design is very limiting for the reasons you gave. I wouldn't trust it to put a large amount of torque on anything. For a quick fix, sure, but not something I'd use to rebuild an engine. Great content!

    false advertising is illegal. False advertising is any published claim that is deceptive or untruthful. Misleading advertising is any published claim that gives a consumer an incorrect understanding of the product they are interested in purchasing or using. The false and misleading advertising by companies of any product may result in the consumer suffering a financial loss, or another form of damage to the consumer. I won't waste my money on that wrench. Thanks! Great review.

    lol. my wife's grandma gave me one similar 5 years ago....I tried to use it...doesn't fit in 90% of spaces.
    it paperweights my toolbox mat next to tools I can actually use.
