Chef cut gloves make so much more sense than those finger guards. Nice reviews of all the products. I did wonder how the mixer bowl guard would've vorked on a stand mixer, probably perform badly there too. That apple peeler worked well. I wonder if you wet the counter if the suction cups would've stuck , sometimes that works on surfaces the suction cups won't initially stick to.

Yeah, not really chief. He has an Amazon link in his description for the splatter guard and, yeah, it mainly shows hand held mixers. Also, you do realize stand mixers rotate in circles right? How tf would you be able to put a splash guard on something that spins in a wider radius than the splash guard has? The splash guard would literally move around with the "paddle" you suggested until it flys off

What? Have you ever used a stand mixer at all? There is no way that thing would work with a stand mixer. The range of motion of the shaft is way wider than that hole on the guard. It would be grabbing the shield and throwing it all over the place and into the stand of the mixer.

I feel like the anti-splatter guard would have much more use if wet ingredients were involved. If it were all wet ingredients, you wouldn't really need to move the mixer around, just let it run and it would mix. If it were a combination of wet and dry ingredients, like, say, a batter, you could use the guard at the beginning when they're still mostly separate, and take it off to get the sides and whatnot once the risk of splattering has reduced, which normally happens once the wet and dry ingredients start to come together.

Love your videos. Just a couple observations. For the apple Peeler suction cups to work better, try wetting the surface a bit first . I always have to do this to get any suction cups to grab the surface. For the mixing bowl cover, this would be absolutely perfect for a stand mixer. The bowls you used for the demonstration are not considered "mixing bowls", but more of a casserole bowl. While it may still be a bit problematic with a hand mixer, using a proper mixing bowl (which looks what it is designed for), it would still be better than nothing. You would just have to stop occasionaly to scrape the sides vs scraping as you mix. Obviously its not going to work for a shallow bowl and a hand mixer. Based on this, I think your negative comments should be reevaluated. Still love your videos, but sometimes I scream at the TV when you use kitchen gadgets. Lol.
EDIT: I did go follow the link that's posted for the splatter shield. It DOES show for use with a hand mixer and immersion blender. There was no video only pics. For this to work properly, you would need a bowl deep enough to accommodate the mixing blades. As other commenters have said, you don't normally bring out a mixer for only dry ingredients. It would be interesting to see a redo of this item using a proper mixing bowl and wet ingredients. But then again, not everyone has all the proper equipment in their kitchens for the tasks they are doing and we improvise with what we have.

I think the apple in regards to the mixing bowl cover (although I didn't think of it), I think it is really meant for use with a stand alone mixer, however I think a hand mixer or immersion mixer would work pretty well if you used a deeper bowl and flipped the bowl cover upside down, so it can glide lay smoothly over the bowl as you move a

I am sorry, somehow my original reply got messed up.
I think the apple peeler is awesome. I will be buying one.
If one is using the mixer cover with a hand held mixer they should turn the cover upside down. This would take the grooves out of play and allow the cover to lay flat and move with the mixer so you could more the whole bowl. It might be a little awkward but a least you wouldn't be hindered by the grooves.
I think a better test would be mixing a more wet product like flour and water. I never use a mixer for dry stuff. I am also not so sure the immersion mixer should be part of this test. It is something I would never use for a dry mix and when I use mine for a wet product, it is buried deep in the button of a pot and there is no splatter.

If I recall he made the exact same mistake with with the apple peeler and slicer combo. For any suction cup to work you have to wipe both the suction cup and the surface to make sure there's absolutely no dust or particles. Making the cloth damp also creates a stronger vacuum but you have to be careful not to use too much or it will just slide all over and probably find a spot where it easily disconnects.

Just a note in favor of the whisk wiper (from someone who doesn't own one): Even though the wiper itself doesn't look super easy to clean, whisks aren't especially easy to clean themselves- especially if you need to use it for multiple items in a short period of time. That apple peeler shows what was old is new again. We had a similar one when I was a kid in the early 1960's. That one worked just as well. I have to say watching you use it brought back memories.

The splatter guard perfect test review - kitchenaid stand mixer, whisk attachment, and a carton of heaving whipping cream. If you can make butter without making a mess, then it’s an amazing product. Might also try it with a sunbeam stand mixer that spins the bowl rather than the beater, to see how well it stays in place.

The Whisk Wiper is the best gift, really. I asked for and got the one for Kitchen Aid Mixer Whisks and boy does it work. I use the paddle attachment most often but when I am mixing egg whites, making pudding, etc. I use my whisk and so much stays on the whisk. This cleans 99% of it off!
Amazon reviews were hit and miss which really confuses me. This thing works and I highly recommend it.
FYI, It's not difficult to clean. Put your water on high, switch to the sprayer and the stream will clean out all the crevices. Easy peasy every time.

When making very thin slices, the finger tip is normally folded under and the side of the knife is braced against the first row of knuckles, giving very fine control by slightly moving the entire hand after each cut. Wonder how those guards would work for doing that.

For cutting just learn the finger curl in technique, it's one of the easiest knife skills to learn (saying from experience, I'm a beginner at best) and works pretty well since the knife is resting against your knuckles which are in front of your fingertips making it almost impossible to hit your fingers with the sharp end. Or if you're really concerned about it I would guess one of those cut resistant gloves would be a better bet.

They use to sell a glove that protects your fingers whilst cutting plus also a chain mail version to that butchers use. The glove for protecting your fingers is a better idea, especially if you get the right size that fits snug, I'm sure they are still available to buy. I definitely think the bowl cover is more for use with a stand mixer, which would probably work well when making butter cream etc, and you just use a spatula to remove the areas the whisk beaters could not reach. Great idea if you bake alot but don't want to be standing over the bowl, whilst trying to avoid making a mess. Apple peeler fun for kids or if you are cooking with alot of apples, wonder if it will work on potatoes as well now that would be helpful. Great video 🙂👍🍀

The mixer splatter guard is easily achieved using a paper plate. Been doing this for decades.
Clean your whisk off with your fingers.
The apple peeler is the only one I’d consider.

If you find suction cups not working, rub the bottom with water. That helps force the air out. Also the point of the finger guards is that the when chopping, the knife is supposed to rest against your fingers when chopping.

We use the finger guards or something similar to strum our autoharps. They protect our fingers well. The mixer bowl cover: I think it would work much better with a stand mixer, like a Kitchenaid.

You could try wetting the suction cups on the apple peeler. I find I can't get them to grip without moisture. You might also try a spray of cooking oil on the whisk - would at least make it easier to get the whisk wiper on.

  • @suecampbell4811
    @suecampbell4811 2 роки тому +1

I know you are testing the whisk wiper to see the amount of food that remains on the whisk but just to let you know, you did not whisk once. You stirred with a whisk. My guess is - barring the use of an egg-in-shell mixer, you eat many stirred eggs that have white and yellow parts.

The Apple Peeler: It sure looks like it works well. Too bad it doesn't do more than peel. I already have several apple peeler/slicers that were handed down to me from family elders and couldn't really see myself having that peeler as well. The basic concept has been around for so long and there are very well made versions that can last a lifetime out there.

*the whisk wiper? SO ridiculous. it was in my stocking. it's already in the trash... the tines bent easily & the cleaning of the gadget was much more difficult when doing something like whipping large amounts of cream or frosting... you went a little easy on it with tiny amounts. trust me.. a couple taps on the side of the bowl works just as well. no stupid gadget needed. the anti-splatter guard cover is best intended for stand mixers... i have another brand which is identical and I LOVE IT! that thing works... when used as intended! I am impressed with that apple peeler... wonder how it would hold up over time... would be great for potatoes & other fruits/vegs too... i'd buy that. anyway another good review for some weird products.*

Wisk wiper is a cool idea, but I saw a spatula with one half of the spatula having slots cut for it to work the same way but not having to do the entire wisk at once. I feel like that would be easier to handle, less messy and more functional since you could also use it as a regular spatula at the same time.

I love to check your videos before I buy. Thank you. A couple observations. Those finger guards look adjustable. Try spreading them a little to fit your fingers. If you manage to cut your pinky, you don't need guards, you need to stop cutting things! Lastly, I use a silicone spatula to clean my whisk and it works much better. I don't bend my whisk, either. LOL
