      @Lanoira13 Рік тому +95

      Nah, it makes sense she'd be uncomfortable being around him while he's still recovering and not on meds if she had psychosis symptoms in the past. Having a psychotic episode might've been traumatic for her, and seeing him going through the same was probably really triggering and scary. Hell, she might even have had issues with anger or lashing out, and been scared he was showing signs of the same, bc she knew how unsafe and out of control she felt at the time. Sucks that her being irresponsible with her meds caused the situation, and I'd bet that's something that'll come up in counseling, but doesn't invalidate her feeling unsafe when they both know he might not be aware of his actions and has already done stuff he wouldn't normally do, or her feeling uncomfortable seeing someone she loves go through what she did, knowing it's because of her mistake.

But you're the second person I've seen saying taking Seroquel misdiagnosed caused a similar mental break to the story for them due to a medical history of incompatible issues, and another person said they had a similar experience taking more than their prescription even though it is right for them.
      I could understand it being useful as a sedative if you know a patient doesn't HAVE those issues... But it being used as a sedative for people in rehab and detox etc seems like it would be asking for issues given a lot of people with mental illness self medicate, and a lot of people with substance abuse issues have underlying issues or medical histories they don't know about. I'd assume that would make rehab and detox groups disproportionately likely to have these complications????

    Seroquel is a wild medication. I was misdiagnosed as bipolar a couple years ago and the first medication I was given to treat my 'bipolar' was 150mg of Seroquel. It was an absolutely horrifying experience. You're not supposed to operate heavy machinery while on this medication, but I work at 2 hospitals in my area and am on call often, so I had no other choice (yes I expressed this to my Dr and he didn't seem to care). I saw traffic lights morph into giant upside down hanging bats, I've seen people and creatures that weren't there, and had conversations that didn't happen. I constantly felt like I was losing my mind and couldn't keep myself awake. The fact that he was taking 6 of these is mind boggling. I also used to take a large amount of Benadryl nightly due to significant allergies (I wasn't taking any other medicine at the time). I had to stop taking that as well bc I was experiencing horrible 'bad trips' and again felt like I was losing my mind. Multiple severe mental disorders run on both sides of my family and I think (as Loey explain happened to the man in this Reddit story) the antipsychotic (Seroquel) unlocked a lot more issues for me that caused me to be hospitalized. I now have to deal with a heavier load of mental health issues that before I was given this medication.
    Please please please make sure you're advocating for yourself while speaking with ANY health professionals. Make sure you give them a full history to the best of your ability and do NOT let them dismiss you. As someone who works in healthcare myself, I often see patients that are too shy and/ or too trusting of the people's care they are in. Stand up for yourself with your whole chest and if you are not comfortable with something, make it known and do NOT let them step past any of your boundaries. I pray that none of you have to experience what I have.

      Bc redditors always leave plot holes in their fictional stories. If he already had a tolerance to benedryl he still wouldn’t have any tolerance to seroquel. If he popped six right off the bat he’d be completely drugged and he’d know it. He wouldn’t be able to stay awake even the next day or until it wore off. He’d probably have serotonin syndrome, because seroquel does just that - it quells serotonin.
      It takes time for you to reach a high doseage even when it’s prescribed and it takes a long time for seroquel to leave your system. Typically it’s prescribed in increasing doses until they get the right dose.
      Also, seroquel are big pills that look nothing like tiny bright pink benedryl. Seroquel is also prescribed for other things than anti-psychotics. So, Why put it in a benedryl bottle knowing your spouse takes too much benedryl? Why not say you take it for something else if you don’t want to talk about your diagnosis? Why couldn’t he tell the difference even after a week of this? She wasn’t trying to drug him or she’d have put it in his bottle not hers. This whole story has too many holes to be true.

    This was insane! Quick story of my own, about 7 or 8 years ago I started seeing a psychiatrist about a few things I had been dealing with. The first one I started seeing was a bit shady as I had no insurance and was basically going to the only one around I could actually afford. After a few visits and some test I was finally diagnosed and started treatment which included both therapy and medication. Long story short I was misdiagnosed by a longshot and was being treated for psychosis even though I had nothing remotely even close to that going on. I was prescribed from the get go to take 600mg of Seroquel twice a day! And to say that I had delusions would be a massive understatement. It is insane how real hallucinations are to someone that has no clue they are hallucinating. If you have no history or signs and symptoms of mental illness and you take something that strong, you are in for a bad ride. It took months for me after I switched Dr's and came off of that medication for my mind to go back to being somewhat normal and clear. That stuff is no joke!

    I have a very similar experience to this!! Basically when I was a younger teen, and id miss multiple days of my antidepressants due to irresponsiblity, i would take two or three to “even it back out” but the problem is itd happen wayyy too often. id be fine on them for a few weeks, then miss days at a time, then for two days or so id take two or three pills. i was on a high dose too. it’d put me through terrible lows and deep delusional episodes when i would take multiple. i totally messed up friendships and family relationships because of it.
    Moral of the story, medications like this are no joke, please handle medications responsibly, or have a trusted individual handle your medications if you can’t.

Having a psychotic episode might've been traumatic for her, and seeing him going through the same was probably really triggering and scary. Hell, she might even have had issues with anger or lashing out, and been scared he was showing signs of the same, bc she knew how unsafe and out of control she felt at the time.

    Yes as a nurse I have seen this in action. When someone has either taken medication and had an adverse effect to it and this medication is one that this frequently happens on. Antipsychotics can have these effects to people because they don’t work for them for whatever reason. They either have to try something different and don’t forget he wasn’t prescribed them anyway so really he may not have anything at all wrong we don’t know the entire story. Yes you can have someone in your history but that does not mean you will have it also.
    I would hope they could move past this because it could have just been a bad reaction from a mistaken drug.

    Also, the only time I had any sort of delusion was when I hadn’t taken my antidepressants for a year, was going through a lot cause also the pandemic had just started. I was outside in the middle of the night having a panic attack when suddenly I hear my mom saying to come over here. I couldn’t see her and her voice was coming from behind some bushes. I started walking over there and I heard her call my name and telling me again to come over here. I kept walking when it suddenly hit me, why would my mom be hiding behind some bushes in the middle of the night? So I just went back inside and fell asleep.

    I loved this, this was great. And funny you say that thing about bugs at the end. My fiancé seems to hallucinate bugs from time to time. He has an insane fear of wasps and large bugs. To the point whenever he comes inside he asks if there’s anything in him. Which usually there’s not. On occasion he has run inside slamming the door and dramatically brushing his clothing and asking if I saw anything come off him or still on him. To which I usually reply no. There have also been occasions when he’s sworn there is a spider in our room at night. One occasion specifically, our youngest was around 6 months at the time, her and I were fast asleep, when he woke up freaking out, turning on the lights and telling me to get out of bed, because he was trying to fall asleep when he looked up from his phone to see what he thought was a giant spider hanging in front of him, as if the web was attached to the ceiling. He woke up me and had me move our daughter out of the bed, while we looked around for it. We checked the bed and all around the room. But couldn’t find anything. And he said it was so big, it should have been easy to find. He was so paranoid he kept me up for an hour with him trying to rationalize what he saw and why he couldn’t find it. I know he’s hallucinating it, because I’ve never seen anything he claims to see, but I don’t have the heart to tell him. Because it’s so real to him. And when I try to say maybe you’re just tired or something, it tends to trigger him. So yea. Gotta love that 😅
