  • Monmouth County - Garden State Parkway - 99.5 NB - Working Car Fire
    Just before 6 PM Monmouth County 911 received a call for a car fire on the GSP. The caller stated her car was on fire in the engine compartment and her car was at 99.5 NB on the left shoulder. While I was staged at 94 NB I drove the four miles up to find the car actively on fire with fire showing from the engine compartment. The first due fire officer gave the update for a working car fire & told the first due engine to pull behind the car and stretch the booster line. 52-2-78 was first on the scene and quickly stretched the line and knocked down the bulk of the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown.
    No injuries were reported.

    I'm impressed it took until 1:46 for the flashers to stop working, especially since that engine compartment was doing a full on car-b-que. Once they got the line in operation, that was a quick knockdown. Nicely done capturing this JSFR.

      We don't because people have a bad habit of grabbing it for not appropriate circumstances. (Apporiate being brush, small vehicle, not a room and content)

      @@BigBadBeard-jo4xnthat’s a training issue rather than a booster line issue. There’s something very wrong with a department if its members can’t work out which fire requires only a booster line and which fires it’s unsuited for. But that being said, a high pressure booster line is more than adequate for reseting a room and contents fire to pre flashover conditions whilst a larger line is being made ready.

      Except they aren't.
      A standard inch and a half with an HVLP tip is much easier to work with than a typical 1" rigid hose setup.
      I started my Firefighting career in 1980 when reel lines were still plentiful but being phased out of the US fire service so I used them quite a bit early on. For this sort of job I'll take 50-100 foot section of trash line any day over a rigid. There is literally no practical benefit to using them in typical situations at metros like this.

    How many vehicles passed by with a fire extinguisher? Just shows how some are just useless oxygen users

    • @mariebelladonna437
      @mariebelladonna437 22 дні тому

      They're useless because they didn't all rush to stop and insert themselves into a dangerous scene for which they are not trained, at which there were ALREADY first responders taking care of things?
      Some people just aren't physically or mentally equipped to handle a situation like that, and they know it, they see the cop, so they keep going. Or maybe they had their kids in the car. Maybe they're old, or disabled. There's lots of legit reasons someone might not stop, and none of them makes that someone useless. You don't know why someone didn't stop. So don't judge.
      Besides, if lots of people stopped, if every person who THOUGHT they MIGHT be able to help pulled over, imagine how many people would be crowding the shoulder, milling around, getting in the way, and taking up space needed by the firefighters.
      And even IF a fire extinguisher would've put that kind of fire out-which it WON'T-the cops wouldn't have let anyone get close enough to use one. It's too dangerous, too big a fire, with bursting tires, toxic smoke, and other materials. It's why the cop, who undoubtedly carried a fire extinguisher, as most do, had the common sense not to use it, and to wait for the fire department.
      The cops probably wouldn't LET anyone else stop, once they were there. And even if they did, they sure as hell wouldn't let a civilian get close enough to try to fight a fire. Extra civilians are a liability; they could get hurt, and even if not, like I said, they would just be in the way, and their vehicles would be in the way of the fire apparatus. If you're not trained, and there's already a first responder on scene, let them handle it. They're the pros, after all.
      I just don't understand people who shame others for not jumping to be a hero. We can't ALL stop. And we don't all want to. Sorry not sorry. You might have a hero complex, but that doesn't mean everyone does. Not everyone can be a hero. Some people are just normal, everyday people, and no more.
      And that is OKAY.
      We don't ALL have to be heroes. Because we already have heroes we can count on. The ones wearing badges and bunker gear. And they were already there. Let them do the job they trained for. JFC.
