    Just brought one of these beauties home (Pure). Impressions: SOLID- There's a hefty, tight tolerance motorcycle beneath you and you feel it. Rumbly at idle and smooth at cuise. Fit and finish: Does not feel or look cheap AT ALL. Every facet of this bike is expertly executed. Suspension: STIFF. "Cheap" fork but actually very well sorted. Saddle: Minimal BUT quality memory foam...better than expected. Emptying the tank between breaks is doable on this bike. Riding position: Perfect! Great at highway speeds with slight lean into the wind, great visibility, great to alter your position as needed to maneuver. Exhaust: Sounds great, if a little loud for the neighbors. Riding experience: Soulful! You're gonna have to judge that one for yourself. It feels like no other because there is no other. It's a cool bike and you feel cool on it....which is the idea of the whole line. Pick your flavor of R NineT and have a hoot, I don't think you can go wrong.

      @@rubensahak9178 Still have it, still think it's a phenomenal bike. I've added heated grips (get those equipped at the factory or pay $550 in parts and lol, activation at the dealer) and a Hepco & Becker rear rack. It doesn't need anything else in my book. Maybe a fancy paint job for fun...

      @@mhitson7483 It's not really a novice bike. Sure, you could do it, but why pay a BMW premium when (assume when) you drop it? Small bikes with low power are much better teachers when learning to get the most out of a bike. Vitpilen 401 is where I'd look. I may get the Svartpilen because small bikes are so much fun.

    I own this bike, but with the cast wheels, and it is the nicest ride I have ever had. It is my third BMW, and before this bike, I had 2 Sportsters, and a Fat Bob. I found it to be about the same size as my R65LS, but with way more power than my oil head R1000R. It is like riding a cloud, but a cloud that goes 100 mph. I actually ride mine to work, and 100 mph, has become the new 80 mph. As to the sound, well, I got used to it, but I do like that it is quieter than my HDs. I found a tachometer kit on the web for around 80 bucks, hope to get it installed this weekend. I would ad, the heated grips made this last winters rides bearable, too many years with frostbite, and this year, oh so warm. The only thing I find wrong, no back rest for the Little Lady.

    The high tide of on-bike reviews. Always very well informed about the bike (no “I don’t even know what bike I’m riding but I’ll give my opinion anyway”), fun to watch, genuinely likeable chap, and can ride the danglies off anything. Cheers Zack, you’re a dude.

    Awesome review - I've had mine for about a year and the torque, exhaust note, impeccable fit and finish and great looks make it my favorite bike. I did put the tachometer on it which also gives a gear position indicator and a few other trip computer calculations (like mileage). Lots of fun around the city and a country road.

    Hello my friend😉
    Another fantastic commute with you there, and you described the experience of having bikes in the 70's, with the "smell of hot oil, when you get off", absolutely perfectly!!!!
    Love the style of video you do, and also, you are head and shoulders (literaly) above the competition, when it comes down to sensible riding. OK, the backing it in is acceptable by any standard, but you ride safely and courteously to others, and that, I like and support!😉
    And one final observations I have, is....
    HOW MANY TELEGRAPH AND POWER WIRES/CABLES ARE RUNNING THROUGH THE AIR AROUND YOUR PROPERTY???? ha ha, there looks to be hundreds mate!😂😂😂😂
    Take care my friend and keep safe! (From a rainy England!)

    I had a 2008 R1200R that I absolutely adored. I ended up selling it before moving to Germany, with the idea that I would buy another one when I got here.... I should have paid the extra costs to ship it here!! So same engine as the nineT. A couple of extra bells and whistles like ABS and ESA, and had a very tiny, but extremely effective windscreen on it. That windscreen took the majority of the wind blast off the chest, and gave you a very light breeze on your face, so with just a pair of good sunglasses, it was perfect. For a bike it's size, it was a bit on the heavy side, about 550 lbs. It came with the hard removable side boxes, and I added the smaller top case. A pair of crash bars around the cylinders and added a set of highway pegs on those. Out on the open highway, with the luggage full, it was one of the smoothest, and definitely the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden. But it truly was a chameleon. Pull off the luggage, and it was a canyon carver of great fun. Plenty fast enough for me, and would hug a line like no ones business!! Of course it couldn't keep up with a true sport bike. But it was plenty fun all by itself. I always keep looking for another one like it. Often they can be found with low miles (under 10K) around the $5k-$6k range, and often with the side boxes. In the next few weeks, I will be returning back to the US, and if I run across one again, I will jump on it immediately. Even though I have a brand new 2020 R1250RT waiting for me at BMW Motorcycles of Western Oregon, I will never forget how much fun that thing was to ride! Oh! And it had a Corbin low seat on it. I could easily lay down 500 miles a day on that thing if I was traveling. I hope I run into another one for scooting around town and playing on the twisties out in the mountain roads! Bob in Germany

    R nine T Racer is perfectly comfortable XD even on longer trips. I did a 400 mile daytrip on it and i was fine in the evening. Even my dad managed to do 1100 miles in 4 days without any issues. You just have to commit to it :D
    I have to admit that the suspension is kind of soft for sporty riding, but it makes it very smooth on bumpy roads :)

    I love this bike! As technology continues to advance, particularly with these retro-styled bikes, I am surprised that BMW didn’t incorporate a digital gauge with navigation, gear indicator, and tach along with similar features into the cluster. The Indian Chief is a perfect example of where technology meets retro styling and I hope that BMW catches on to this.

  • @mattbillenstein

    I like the look of these bikes, but that old powertrain can be a lot of expensive maintenance - replacing the clutch, or lubing the splines, or a rear main seal failure, or a trans seal failure, or the clutch slave failing -- and you now need to split the bike in half to get in there and fix it -- $2-3k at the dealer out of warranty. I might wait until this line of bikes gets the wasserboxer...

    I had one of the R100R’s from 1997 and it was the “old” boxer motor. It had a vibration at just around 2000 rpm and in the city I was going in and out of that rpm range a lot, so I found the vibration annoying. Did you notice anything like that with this model?

    Watching this made me think I want a new bike, not this one, just something else, but then I remembered that the reason I didn't enjoy my ride today was the clutch was acting up even though it's a new cable and I was worried it would snap like it did on me the last time, I'll have to look into it tomorrow and see if there's fraying or something.

      I will state, the bike itself when i describe style i love every tiny aspect of its character, its nice to ride on something that's got character, that brings itself to life instead of being a soul-less machine its gives you feedback and has little quirks and makes you smile when you sit on it, fewer and fewer bikes are often loosing their character for more approachable smooth running and soul-less machines

    Like the style, but was shocked by how wide the motor is on the left and right side of the bike. Also, this motor felt underpowered when I rode one

    that thing is freaking rad!..... went straight to BMW's website and.... OK so the pure starts at $20,190 and the R nineT starts at $25,190 before a single accessory is added here in Aus... Sadly I shall never own one :'(

      And in the case of this bike, you'll have an extra $2400 in your pocket. They (the spoked wheels) are a ridiculously expensive 'upgrade'.

    I have to admit, I like the look but I prefer the more street fighter type. But that's my taste. However, that saying, I'm curious. This is called the pure since it has more about riding and less about the tech. But if you had to compare this to the others in the range, what's the price difference? Are you paying more for less or paying less for less?

    • @galaeron
      @galaeron 6 років тому +1

      It's called pure because it's a more affordable version of the R9t roadster. You are paying less for less (cheaper, non-adjustable, "regular side down" fork, axial brakes, cast wheels(which may be better performance-wise, actually), single dash, steel tank instead of aluminum tank, cheaper exhaust vs the r9t roadster double akrapovik, cheaper front mudgard). Some details are also worse, like the plastic bar ends (vs the roadster's aluminum bits) and the rear frame can't be totally removed (if you're going for a bobber look). Same 110 bhp engine.

    • @vengefulrat3053
      @vengefulrat3053 6 років тому

      Diogo Mafra see, that's good. I like that. They give you less and then charge you less. Fair enough, those damn wheels are expensive for the classic look. But yeah, I like that. Not charging extra for removing parts. Good on BMW! Thanks for the reply!

    Anyone know what which model of Revit gloves Zack is wearing? They look a bit like the Jerez Pros, but I don't think those have the color stitching on the palm like the ones in the video.
