  • We review the BMW R nineT Pure motorbike from BMW Motorrad.
This 1170cc opposed-twin boxer engined motorcycle is powerful, yet manageable. It handles well and sounds really cool!
We look at how it rides, the brakes, handling, suspension, wheels, twin cylinder boxer engine, gears and styling. How many mpg? We find out the fuel economy too. What does it sound like? How about one with aftermarket pies! Who is it for? Would you buy it? Your questions will be answered by watching this video.
Thanks again to Wollaston Motorrad BMW in Northampton UK. www.wbikes.com for lending us this bike. Check out their website for all the deals!

It’s getting to the point that any bike without a TFT tablet stuck in your face is worthy of a look-see. In my not so humble opinion, the TFT tablet will be soon be regarded as the mullet of motorcycle design.

    • @UncleWally3
      @UncleWally3 3 роки тому +2

@@MrDarcy-OlMan. I recognize the attraction of data display and how the TFT lends itself to more functionality. However, many of us stare at tablets too much already and the last place I want to look at a rectangular screen is on a bike. At a minimum, wouldn’t making the TFT’s shape more akin to traditional displays (many cars already have that nailed) and then building in a simple feature to send data to your phone or another accessible place on the bike be more attractive? Or, maybe it’s just an ol’fart objection; time will tell.

    Great review thanks.
I have this exact bike in the 2019 R9T pure spec - AND I JUST LOVE IT!
I’ve made some minor changes: Tank pads, gators, crash bars, retro headlight grill, bar risers (20mm) and bar end mirrors.
I’m so in love with this bike, I can’t imagine selling it. I love the quality and how basic it is. The blank canvas has allowed me to give it a retro style.

    Key points to note:
Spokes and Heated grips are both additional options
All pure variants have the single speedometer
OEM parts and repairs are premium priced
This bike was specifically made to modify
I am 167 cm and have to walk it on my toes or waddle. Sitting towards the rear, my feet are flat.
Seat breaks in around the 1.6 km mark.
Extremely user friendly. Well put on the recommendation for beginning riders.

Its one of the real world best engies ever put into a motorcycle imho. Flexible, powerful and characterful. The gs and gsa are better for bigger blokes. The r9t has a few downsides including limited ground clearance in the corners. It remains stable as any sports bike in tbe corners but you can be caught out by ground clearance issues if pushed really hard. There is no weather protection but you can get a screen for these. Build quality is very good.
I still prefer my own 2016 1200gsa (126bhp, 92 lbs ft torque and 135mph). Its more comfortable, practical and can still hustle in the corners. Best bike I've ever owned in nearly 40 years of biking.
I get 50mpg easily on a run from my 30 litre tank which is a whopping 300 miles before reserve kicks in.
Nice video once again. Keep 'em coming! Try the new 1250 gs. It'll really be an eye opener! Forget the stying...it's a real roadster to ride and with more power and torque. I like the fact you dont play top trumps but do talk about what these bikes are actually like to ride.
I have had several Harleys and these boxers are in a diglffetent league. They're better in every respect. I woulkd never own another Harley. Too many quality control issues, poor handling and grossly over priced.

These bikes look so much better in person! I just came from a local dealer here in Erfurt Germany and they had two of the most beautiful bikes I have ever seen. Both R nineTs! They must have had custom paint jobs as the first was a dark rustic candy Apple Red and the other was probably my most favorite green. A dark sort or metallic british racing green. They were side by side and complimented each other very well. BUT 18000 euros! Fuuuuqqkkk! That said I was surprised at how well i fit on the bike at almot 5'11" with a 30 inch inseam. It did like you say definitely felt like a big boys bike but I wasn't intimidated by it. That said I don't know if it would really be a wise choice for a first bike at 40. However, If I had enough to waste I'd probably get a smaller bike and the R nineT I spoke of waiting for me in the wings. By the way the fit and finish on these bikes are outstanding. Thanks for the video!

I bought a new standard in 2018 , I loved the bike but when I got to 3500 kms I got knocking sounds in the forks & got the forks replaced under warranty after I videoed it using my phone for proof , it was really annoying when riding slow over a bumpy road etc , but after it was perfect again until I got to 7800 kms so by then I had enough and just got rid of it , shortest new bike I’ve ever owned bought in April & traded in in October for a 2019 s1000r sport , I was gutted at the time because I really liked the character from the engine but that bikes forks didn’t like the bumpy back roads here in Ireland, the s1000r is proving to be bullet proof in every way so I’m happy enough with that , it’s been the most reliable Bmw out of the 3 I’ve had since 2016

I rode the Speed Twin and R NineT back to back. Speed a bit more nimble (as the weight would suggest) but not by much. Brakes better on the BM. Flatter power delivery on Speed, more characterful from the BM - about similar for pace though. Speed riding position is canted forwards more than BM - not by much, but the tank is narrow and hard to grip with knees; might be able to solve that with tank pads to bring it out an inch or so. BM position is really neutral, but I'd say the seat is a bit uncomfortable (I have done 260 miles on it mind, so it's not so bad). BM suspension a bit stiff on the rear - many owners swap out to a Wilbers shock. Both look great in the metal. Both sound nice. I chose the BM but that's because I got a good deal on a low mileage 2018 bike and the Speeds haven't dropped into that sort of range yet. I'd happily have the Speed but I'm also very happy with my R NineT.

Curious to see you ride a Triumph Street Triple on which you can adjust the sag both in the front and rear. It should compress 25% when you sit, 20% for firmer ride 30% for softer, 25% seems to be an ideal most people like. Obviously, a big heavy guy like you can't ride the same setting a 120 lbs. small girl, it's just like mountain biking. In terms of damping (how fast it comes back up from a bump) or compression (how fast it compresses down to absorb the bump) they are not as crucial you can have those adjusted as well if you have someone that can give you 5 minutes to show you how. But at least we will know how drastic your SAG ride was. Hope you can get one. That should always be the first question you ask the dealer people: Can I adjust the sag on this bike? (damping and compression are extra luxuries) but sag is big. With improper sag, the bike will feel like a bucking horse, pogo stick and can actually be dangerous. With the proper sag it moves with you, soaking up bumps effortlessly.

A left field bike for BMW that actually looks like a very comfortable town/short haul bike with a decent sized petrol tank. I recently bought a Ducati Scambler and commute for 40 minutes through central Paris and outskirts and the Ducati seems as good as it can get for the purposes but...I am tempted to switch to the r9t in a year or so just because it is so beautiful, well made and reliable. Have you tried it in dense city traffic? I spend half the time filtering and I'm concerned that the extra weight and width would be a handicap.I think i would go for the Pure with some upgrades rather than the classic because as you say, in the real world, we don't need those gold forks.
