Really enjoyed this one. What a beautiful part of England. Envious of your technique Andy.
I've subscribed just now hoping to see more fly fishing on grayling.
Just subscribed.. great to watch. The most informative and well presented media of its type on UA-cam.
Another superb video Andy, river testing you out too..
Absolutely cracking vid
Thanks Oscar!
Good vid again love it and I learn a lot with you guys 👍😃👌
Thanks Iwan, I learned a lot on this day myself! 👍👍
😂😂please do rainbow trout vids maybe
Stillwater stuff?
Well done mate.
Nice upload mate! 😍 Keep it up!
Thanks bud, appreciate the view!
Andy if you teach anybody anything as a priority (I hope that came out right) it is persistence.
Do not give up. There may come a time on the river when a person feels they are flogging water and not doing anything right, but don't give up. I have found my way through these times by pulling up a stump and calming my mind, then remember my basics. What am I fishing for, Is nymphing warranted or dries? Look at my rig, is it right? What must my presentation be? Deep pool, shallow run or riffle? Do my flies allow me the presentation. I often give my line a quick wipe with a clean dry soft cloth. Then envision the cast you must make. Don't just look and say I have to set the fly there, close your eyes and see the cast, stand up take a breath and go to the water. The other thing that is really important is to stay hydrated and don't forget a snack.
All of this takes ten minutes. When you go back and take a fish your confidence will soar and you will be fine. You probably don't need to hear this but there are a lot of new folk that get discouraged quickly, i hate to see that happen.
I totally agree with you, though I think the #1 mistake I see from clients is doing the same thing over and over because it worked once before. I think your point about stepping back is really important for the above reason 👍👍
It's a thinking man's past time I'd say!
@@IBandAndyFishing
I agree and it eventually leads to that situation. It really does help to put some thought into presentation before you step up to the plate
Great vid as always, looking forward to my first season on the Peacock fly water!!!! maybe see you around!
cheers Andy
👋 im like to ask on suspension rig you changing weigth of the flys not adjusting indicator?and second question fly have touch the bottom. Thank you very interesting 🎥 .Great 👍
Hi Andy another great video I can’t find your video on how to build the indicator you are using I’m sure I seen a video on you building it or was I dreaming
Enjoyed this v much. Watched your back series and liked them all but as a beginner would love some fly 101 for the UK fisher. The Madriver outfitters site is great but not always applicable to UK I think although I’m clearly no expert. Other UK videos less watchable than yours IMHO. Keep up the good work and many thanks.
Is there anything in particular you'd like us to cover Warren? Getting towards the trout season and we're starting to plan the sort of vlogs we could make
So c. 30 years ago my wife bought me a fly fishing day on the test with a guide (I’d never fished before). I caught a 4lb brown trout and loved the day and thought I’d found a hobby for life. Then came along kids and career and I’ve never been out again. I’m now reaching sort of semi-retirement and want to give it a go again. The same wife (!) after some pre Xmas hints has bought me another go if we’re ever allowed out but I want to make it stick this time so I would love some beginners lessons before I go eg what is the basic kit that’s essential, nice to have or just for fun. Where to spend your money. I’m not rich but I’m comfortably off and hate environmental waste so would rather buy right first time than try cheap and trade up in a few months. What do leader and tippet weights mean? The MRO leader to hook (x) ratio makes sense to me but when I watch UK vids they talk about breaking strain. Casting for beginners! Could go on but that’s probably enough for now. Thanks for your interest.
LOTS to go at there that's for sure! Kit is difficult because there's so much out there and it's all pretty good. In terms of essential, this will come down to how many techniques you'd like to be able to fish - a dry fly angler could take everything they need in a shirt pocket!
My advice here would be to look up a guide locally to you and explain to them that you're coming back in to it, which methods you'd like to learn and that you'd like them to have a look at your casting technique- that will be money better spent than on kit and will give you a foundation in which you can grow a dangerous obsession!
Great video Andy, but even more frustrated now as I fish that section regularly out of lockdown! The first part you fished usually has a very decent trout about 3 feet from the edge, right near the stone stool which I've managed to catch a couple of times (the last time was on a Baby Pink!). I have come back a few times after fishing there and thought I'd missed a trick as it looks very fishy but often doesn't really deliver (or maybe it's me!).
Can't wait for the trout season . Hard conditions andy but you were out there well done .
I struggled a bit on this one, but new water, nasty conditions and only a couple of hours, I guess I shouldn't be too disappointed
Andy,
What size leader and tippet did you have on the indicator rig?
Great video as usual!
Sorry new to this although I have watched you and IB fishing for some time. I was wondering if you have a section on suspension rigs? I didn't know if you could use a coarse fishing rubber sliding stop bead to adjust the depth more easily than tying on more or less tippet?
Good stuff i keep using squirmey but haven't had a fish on it for some reason cant figure it out.👍
IB wasn't a believer until recently, now she's got a box full!
@@IBandAndyFishing will keep trying just say i got one on it.👍
Great video. What cameras do you use to get such a clear picture? Are they water proof?
What’s the difference between a Nymphing rod and an indicator rod ? This has been my first year targeting Grayling (down in Cornwall ) the rod I’ve been using is a 6ft 2 weight I’ve caught plenty but I know myself I need a better tool for the job , your videos have been really helpful for myself getting into Grayling this winter 👍cheers Andy , Ash
Another great video thanks Andy a lot of valuable info . Just a quick probably silly question , looking at your squirmy worm it seems like the squirmy comes out through the bead rather than round it which looks good . If this is the case how do you get it through without stretching till it breaks ? Thanks
Barry by co-incidence I was tying squirmys last night. I tried a couple of different versions as I was having a lot of trouble with it, but then I found this recipe: ua-cam.com/video/6RE0G8pJg7w/v-deo.html
It looks very similar to the one Andy was using. You use a bobbin threading tool to pull the worm through.
@@tomhammerton4420 Hi Tom , thank you well spotted. as you say It certainly looks similar , will give it a try
Andy i have a question can you recomend me a any club that have trout rivers in it????
I am living in mansfield so i have close to derbyshire
Why do we think of the squirmy worm as the last resort?
It's a great question Tim!I think in this instance the river having been dropping for over a week and the increased ephemeral activity lead me to think that bugs would be at the top of the menu. Not for the first time however I was wrong!
Are these day ticket/member/free stretches Andy? I'm looking for trout spots ready for the season as don't know of any near me in Hinckley.
This is a club stretch Bradley, Derbyshire isn't great for day ticket fishing in afraid, proudly the worst county in the country
@@IBandAndyFishing sent ya a DM on Instagram, if you could point me in the direction of some trout locations that would be great👍🏻 I don't mind paying a club fee so long as it's not silly money.
Another awesome video.....
Are you guys doing a Trout Fly Box for this season?
I'd gladly purchase one ✌
🏴🏴🎣
Thanks Craig!
Coming soon 👀😉
Not long to the trout opener now
Getting close isn't it?!
You apparently don’t follow the “dark water/day, dark fly : clear water/bright day, bright fly” rule. Is that just for Grayling, or do you use the same approach with trout. Thanks
Tbh I think I used a pretty decent spread of flies during the session, the deep purple and the contrast pink tag are both pretty dark flies, the pink dub grub and the flash hare's ear are quite light. I couldn't say that anything I did in this session with l was particularly right though!
Hi Andy I dont want to sound like a dummy however when you catch a Trout you almost sound disappointed. Here in New Zealand I fish a river called the Tongariro and we catch trout only and love it(rainbow and brown). We dont get Grayling in our rivers are they much harder to hook up on cheers Steve.
Hi Steve, I had a few casts in the Major Jones pool on Tonga before we headed off to the Big O- you're blessed to live there!
If I sound disappointed it's because trout are out of season, I'm really hoping to catch grayling and leave the trout alone. Plus there's always the chance i could have hooked a bit grayling and then it turns out to be a trout.
I wouldn't say they're harder necessarily, winter conditions in general are harder as you know - high rivers, coloured water etc. Just a different challenge 👍👍
Hi Andy thanks for that info I wasnt aware trout were out of season.could you tell me the seasons for trout and grayling and how big do grayling get in your rivers around you
So the seasons vary across different areas in the UK, but roughly the trout season is March - Oct.
We don't live in an area where lots of heavy grayling are caught, a 3lb Derbyshire fish is a rare beast (I've not caught one in 30 years). In some rivers in the UK 3lb+ fish aren't uncommon, and the record is about 4lb 8oz 👍
Wow thanks Andy those Grayling sound well worth the effort to chase.Been watching you guys for over a year thanks for taking the time to make these vids cheers Steve
Hi Ib and Andy I also do fly fishing do you have Instagram so I can send you Photos off my fishing gear ?
Still loving the vids. I've begun to dabble in a few edits. have a look on my channel, see what you think?
