Brilliantly done Douglas ,, I’ve watched all 3 vids,, & never seen you fish bottom of beat yet,, can be good Bro.!! Where burn runs in, pool just above💪👌
Cheers Scott, thanks for watching all 3 vids. I tried there yesterday nothing. I’m sure it will produce fish but the whole beat was poor yesterday. I think it needs a good bit rain to freshen it up. The grayling need a bit of flow to burn off some energy after gorging themselves on maggots all weekend.😂
Fantastic video, I’ve really enjoyed this wee Nith Grayling series, I enjoy that you talk about your set up and techniques, really does help us less experienced anglers.
Thanks Tom, very much appreciated mate. If you can think of anything else that would make the viewing better from a beginners perspective let me know an I can add it into future videos. Thanks again for commenting and watching
Cheers Alex, like you said it’s a conference thing, I only tried again because I hooked and lost a fish in the previous week which gave me the confidence to keep trying. It is hard to stop using a method that is so effective (trotting) especially when you have a personal ambition for the holy grailing 3lb+ fish.
Great days fishing one of the best looking fish one can catch, the lady of the stream, and good sized grayling at that, fished a few places on the Clyde and a couple of tributary's, caught a good few just a much smaller average size, though there have been fish in the upper 3lb bracket caught in the upper Clyde.
Hi never caught a grayling.... I caught a seal on Loch Long with an aid of a mackerel. There is something magical about getting a fish as it gets dark (for me) and spooky! ATB.
Orite pal, Looking for some last minute advice for tomorrow. Going out for my first grayling and am a complete novice. Any advice on rivers and beat would be wildly appreciated. Recently discovered your channel but an now an avid watcher and you inspired me to try the bombarda technique in the summer. Going early tomorrow and any advice in advanced would make a subscriber, a life long fan
Sorry for late reply mate and thanks for watching, the river Nith is my main river for the big grayling for trotting maggots. All the beats are good mate when conditions are right.
@PiscatorUK-Fishing cheers bud👍🏼 Ended up on the earn at the weekend but nae luck! Gonna get a centre pin setup this week and try the clyde at the weekend I think (can't afford the fuel money thenow haha) Nith is definatley on the list but not looking for a specimen catch or pb at the moment. A good starter size to give me an appetite, will suffice
Great video. Any part of the nith you would recommend? Never fished it before and planning a trip down next Saturday. See it has lots of different beats ranging from couple hundred meter to miles.
Euronymphing appears to me to trotting a nymph downstream. Is it possible to trot a nymph under a float with a float and catch fish. Ive never heard of anyone doing it.
You certainly can and it does work. You can still have a maggot on the bottom but you can tie on a short dropper onto your swivel, use something like an unweighted pheasant tail or hares ear.

Cheers pal, aye a couple of fat ladies this time, very deceiving for the size👍
Well done on persevering with the nymphs. Almost convinced me to get the fly rod back out.... Almost!

ATB.
Cheers Berti, sea trout fishing at night is also magical. As much as I like night fishing, it’s the video footage that suffers unfortunately.
