Try some of the flexible strips of LEDs. They come in different lengths, are lightweight, and have a self adhesive backing. You could stick a couple on the under side of the lid without adding much weight.
After I built it I got asking same question how will I store this...but luckily it’s actually really light and my garage has some space overhead in the rafters should be able to slide it up there. Now the 9foot spider we got on sale from Home Depot May have to become a yearly yard ornament lol. My fencing I created wall hangers way up on my garage rafters just off the wall and manage to hang those there. A giant pain to take up and down but only once a year and cuts down on the clutter
I hang my fencing on hangers on the outside of my workshop and drape a tarp over them. Everything else gets crammed into a 8 x 12 storage room on the back of my workshop. After this year I'm going to have to evict the mower from that storage room to make room for the new props I've made this year. One day I hope to tear down my current workshop and rebuild it big enough to hold everything plus have room to work.
We had purchased a shed with that in mind but it turned into a place to put all the kids toys so I was left either not parking in the garage or finding creative ways to store the stuff I was going to do similar to you and stored outside but the didn’t think neighbors would like the idea of that lol
Thank you, still going strong in 2020, I may make some changes to it for 2021 we shall see. It has taken a beating pulling it in and out of storage but its handled it like a champ
Your display was neat but your Camara bouncing and low lighting don't help would be nice to build in front of the Camara would be a better description on how to build in stead of the guess work.
I thought about using strip lighting just don't like the appearance so I would need to mount it maybe on the underside of the lid so that it was unseen other then the glow. I never thought about using a strobe light that's not a bad Idea I may try that.
With an LED strip you could place it on the inside on the left side of the base so it faces the opening . As it opens and closes you will not see the light itsel just the glow. If you have a small dog machine you could also place a small black pvc tube going into it so the fog comes out of the opening or a small bowl or plate of dry ice just to give it a little more wow effect.
I thought about adding fog, last year was my first year utilizing a fog machine I'm still trying to pick up a second and run piping thru the whole yard and use a fog chiller. But unfortunately the one I just ordered on eBay i'm pretty sure is fraud because ebay pulled the listing an emailed me right after I paid for the item so we will have to fight that battle lol teach me for going cheap.

That's a great tip as always thank you!
I've thought about doing one of these, but I'm running out of room in the graveyard. (And storage!)

I like it. Is there a backing board on the top foam piece?
No I used just basic pink 2 inch foam board from Home Depot

Really cool!
Thank you!
LED strip lighting works really well and can be operated by a small 9 volt battery, another idea would be to place a small strobe light in there.
