I have actually born again in musical way when I first listened to his album, to its first song. Always liked the deep meaning of blues but it my NO1 style of music. So yeah, Hugh effected my 'tv-taste' and my evolution as a musician. It will be a huge step 10 years from now:P Mastering guitar & piano is never easy but definitely has the pleasure.

I just performed his version of Battle of Jericho (also on the CD) tonight at my regular Monday night music jam session. I've been either playing it or rehearsing it in my head pretty much non stop for the last few days and everyone I played with Monday night loved it. We'll probably work out St. James Infirmary next Monday.

Originally "Gambler's Blues," much of the original is lost. A lot of the story was dropped because the original lyrics refer to myths we know longer remember. It's never been made right because few, if any, really understand the story of the song. It's not about "what it means to Hugh right now" but what it meant and has meant as it changed. This is an interesting story in itself. For me, Joe Turner's rendition was giant. I was a kid who hated jazz and thought. well, this is it!

Finally I hear Hugh Laurie speaking with his actual British accent (although after living in the U.S.A. for a long time he does do some mixture sometimes), it sounds much cooler. Why couldn't the director of House M.D. have let him use his natural way of speaking?
House character is fantastic, but it might have sounded even more spontaneous.

I think you have to know the history of that song to know what he's talking about. Try typing 'The Unfortunate Rake' into youtube and seeing where the song is actually from and how it used to sound.... we are going on a journey.... :)
