    XT sounded more full. Now I'm thinking of getting the less expensive XT. Thanks for the review.

    Opinion: in the playing demo, XL sounded more punchy solo, but in the mix, the XT blew away the XL, which sounded a little lost.

    In the early 80's Steinberger came out with L2 I bought one used and loved it but like an idiot and poor I sold it. 10yrs ago I paid $2000 for LX2 and although the neck is smaller than say Fender P it never lets me down on tone and performance. One of the few items I own that has appreciated over the years.

    I love the original L2 on it's build, looks and clear quality and played on it's own the extra treble in the tone make it sound clear punchy and precise... BUT and it is a HUGE BUT In the mix the XT was for me a clear winner sitting in the mix much better and because of that deep strong bass sound in the mix the XT wins hands down... To my 👂ears 👂 (I am listening to this on a Samsung Galaxy) the original sounded thin and more guitar like... IMHO

  • @Sui778
    @Sui778 Рік тому +5

    I have played both and love both - but honestly the XT-2 can have a similar tone demonstrated on the L2 with some adjustment on the level and tone knobs. The pickups are clearly better on the L2, but I'm just pointing out that the tone that was played on the XT-2 isn't the only prominent sound you can get out of it.

    • @neoland666
      @neoland666  Рік тому

      That's true, but you can say that with any bass. And I count in the fact, that I don't want these videos to be too long, I put all the basses, in all my videos, eq wise, in a sort of default position. No boosting or cutting (if possible).

    I’m glad I saw this vid, was thinking of buying the XT2 but now hearing how much better the L2 sounds in comparison I might hold off a bit. Would be nice if Steinberger reissued the L2/XL2 model

    • @neoland666
      @neoland666  2 роки тому +3

      Well on the Ned Steinberger book, Ned poses with a newly made L2/XL2. Unfortunally I understand, it will never see the light of day. XT2 is not a bad bass by the way, but the simularity between that bass and the L2/XL2, is the shape.

    For some reason, it sounded like the XT-2 was easier and more growly than the L2. I would not have expected as much from passive pickups.
    If I thought I could afford to get something like the XT-2 for myself, it wouldn’t just be because of the professional quality. It would also be as a point of pride; for the most part, that model was manufactured in the same city where I was born, Newburgh, New York, USA.

      First up, there's nothing 's wrong with XT. I just wanted to make a video which I couldn't find anywhere on YT. Just to make the point that there ís a difference between the original and the wooden copy.

  • @bartwitek9526
    @bartwitek9526 2 роки тому +6

    No disrespect to original L2. It sounds very good and sterile as originally intended but I found XT sound sounding better as far as cutting through the mix with this specific Spector like growl

    • @neoland666
      @neoland666  2 роки тому +1

      But I didn't say the XT is a bad bass, what I try to get across is the fact that you don't get the sound and feel of an L2 or XL2 when buying an XT. An awfull lot of people do think that, only because they can't get their hands on an original. I was lucky enough to have an XP as my first bass, and then buying as a backup an XT. Right then and there I was confronted with a lot of sound and feel differences.

    • @bartwitek9526
      @bartwitek9526 2 роки тому +2

      Yeah totally different animals . I had an opportunity to play one of the first L2s ever made serial number 0022 and I must say it sounded great with these big EMG logos pickups . I wish I was able to get that bass but the price was really high so I passed on that . I also played XT model in the same store and it sounded really good. I say it because I prefer passive pickups and they have that very cool growl when you have a good amp.A lot of ppl knock these cheaper versions of Steinberger basses not realizing that it’s hard to compare 2 very different instruments with only a few similar features .
