Thanks for this video Jason. I’m a diehard P-bass player but I’ve had an ‘85 XL2 in my collection for years. In all this time I put up with some slightly higher action because I played it so rarely and I couldn’t figure out how to adjust it without a truss rod. Thanks for the tip, it was just what I needed!

    Big steinberger fan here
Been using them for two decades
Good to see young bucks like you flying the flag
I did a video showing some of mine and another showing my transtrem equipped xl2
Great video and greetings from Ireland

Steinberger’s are ridiculously under appreciated. Glad to have the honor to have source one since these were way before my time.
      Cheers from the US

@@jcherrymusicworld more than underrated, they’re vilified
The number of times I’ve turned up to a session or gig and been asked “what’s THAT?” derisively
Mind you they soon change their tune when they hear it
      :)
If you get a chance to buy an L2, do it
It’s the only thing better than an xl2

Fun fact: There is a wood core in the neck, saturated with resin and then coated with layers of the “Steinberger blend” and additional resin. This was all done in a mold, with the outermost layers being gel coat in the color of the instrument, with black being the overwhelmingly highest produced. This construction technique is very similar to the production methods used in fiberglass boat building, and finish chips, dings, and cracks can be repaired with gel coat repair kits from Boat US or similar marine supply stores (I’ve done it myself a few times over the years, works great). I’ve been blessed to have owned several XL-2 basses over the years, including a couple of white ones and a fretless, but only a fretted black one now.

Glad you're putting out content on this amazing instrument. It was all the rage in the early 80's. The XL2 you have Jason is pretty rare because it has the removable leg which later model XL2's has a built in flip down leg. I've had my LX2 since 2007. Everything you mentioned about it is true.

Hello Jason, my name is Eddie, I’ve been playing bass since the age of 12. I taught myself to play. I do have a Steinberger XP2. I opened it up after buying it. It was hand written Brooklyn 1984.

I have the new Steinberger Spirit that is made out of wood and it does go out of tune. It’s the only ones they make now! I love it though! I usually play a short scale bass (30”) or a 32” and this is weird but so much easier for me than playing a full scale with a headstock. I love the sound, the pickups are amazing.

The carbon fibre used in this instrument is really just carbon added to a resin and or plastics . carbon fibre used in racing parts , golf clubs is very different its woven graphite fabric formed and impregnated with epoxies .
