So I own a Krappy Touchstyle bass. I've had it since 2005. It's awesome. Kevin Siebold is a class act and even sent me some free replacement hardware when I lost some restringing it years ago. A lot of the "these guitars are crap" schtick is just an act, the dude knows how to build quality stuff. I'm proud that he featured a younger more handsome version of me on his Artists page.
I love the manifesto on their website. I want one. "We fully acknowledge our product is crap, and your purchase signifies that you have entered into an agreement to buy a product that is lacking in quality, contains poor materials, and is worthy of much abuse and destruction. We will in no way provide any customer service, so don't even waste your time!!!"
@@ubermenschstream6765 source? I can’t find anything about the owner of this company from a not very in depth google search. I wouldn’t be surprised if he really was lol
That reminds me of Chris Ballew's "basitar", from The Presidents of the United States of America (PUSA) one of my favourite bands (first 2 albums). He got the idea from Mr Sandman (Morphine).
Looks like so much fun. Highly interested. I'm guessing the 2 string models are basically the E and A strings (or I guess could tune to whatever), is this correct?
Krappy's website has been the same since I was in high school... 15 years ago. I remember asking him about building me an 8 string in days when 8 strings were not a production thing. Nice dude.
There are a great many cheap(er) bass guitars out there that would fit your brief with a full spec. Krappys are interesting customs at a none custom price (or quality), special things to add to a collection and great conversation pieces.
And they make the for lefties!!! BTW, in a few months, you should do a "Show me what you bass" episode with the Krappy basses people got as a result of this vid.
@@shadowchu419 oof it was like 700 because of how much Krap i wanted, but that was also 12 years ago! Kevin may have had to raise prices a little since then
With that 2 string bass you should pick up a slide and check out an old band called Morphine. The band leader is the only guy I have ever known of to become known for playing 2 string slide bass. RIP Mark Sandman.
BRO HE STILL MAKES KRAPPIES?! Kevin was my Bass teacher at the Music Den in Ledgewood, NJ when I was in highschool. I still havea Flippitar he sold me!!
Thanx to this video, I have to wait till Jan to get my Touch Style from Kevin! Apparently he has gotten a ton of orders since this video hit..awesome for Kevin and I am truly happy for Krappy!
afaik they use 3, 2, and 1 string guitars and basses but the guitarist/singer got his idea from Mark Sandman of Morphine, whose bass is clearly the inspiration for the Krappy one
@@jackharrow7147 oh man i remember morphine, they were really different haha i got on a kick once trying to find only/lead bass bands and found cop shoot cop and morphine. you know any others?
For my inexpensive 2 string bass, I’d for G0 & D1. Because I love low tunings, not for heavy metal, hard rock or rap music. I’d play it for other genres, mainly for ballads, love songs, smooth jazz & quiet storm, Latin jazz & Brazilian jazz, just to name a few. And I’d love to have a humbucking pickup close to the neck for more bass.
When I was learning to do double thumb slapping I took the D and G string off my old Ibanez Gio because I was having trouble practicing the technique on four strings. It helped build up my muscle memory enough to effectively transistion back to four strings.
So im kind of new to the Krappiness. I saw the website...do i order one just by emailing the contact email? Didnt see a products page but i know it goes with the schtick
I had initially thought that that 2-stringer's headstock was indicative of it being bassed on the bass from Animusic (1?), which was a single-string; Question: If you were to run into another guy named Patrick Hunter, would you each yell out 'Game Over!'? Great video and thanks a lot for it---😵😵
Kevin rocks! I have an electric upright that he made me that I love (there is a picture of it on his site). Kevin’s sense of humor is exactly what you see on his site.
My Krappy Iceman is by far the most fun instrument I've ever played. Needed different tuners and a good bit of set up, but it's great. Most people don't get it until they play it. Then it all makes sense.
What scale length was yours? I have a mockingbird style on order, wondering how low I could get it, might try get down to C & G if it could handle it.. I don't want to hit Kevin up, he's super busy since this video. Thanks
Mine is being built right now. I was on a list for about 11 months. Got the email like 5-6 days ago and have been sent a few progress pics as he builds it. Great dude.

I just tried to order a krappy guitar and he told me to jump in a lake cause I'm #502 on the waiting list. I tried bribing him with nice wood to no avail. This is your fault Patrick.
Just discovered them. Awesome bass. I was thinking of simple bass lines to play and now I have "Mr. Krapdriver" by Lenny Krapitz stuck in my head. Thanks, dude! :-D
I've been writing a lot of Royal Blood style stuff lately with my OLP MM5, and i feel like one of these would be a perfect addition to my sound. I'm ordering one right now!
honestly i wanna buy this and play this in a band. It so fun and unique and i actually like the Sound. It could work for grunge and sludge metal. Also This Bass was used by Mark Sandman from Morphine. He played it with a Slide and he was also a inspiration for Les Claypool
It's funny how quickly I went from rolling my eyes to thinking about getting one...
Trust me, it has NO right to be as fun as it is. But dude, it's under $200 and I am seriously having such a blast playing it.

This reminds me of Mark Sandman of Morphine, awesome slide techniques on a two-string bass!
I was thinking the same thing. He once said that 4 strings were just too much. RIP Mark
The body even looks a ton like Sandman's bass, just a bit simplified.
Absolutely my first thought. Him and Chris Balew of PUSA
Yea id bet the sandman bass was a bit of an inspiration
Yes, nice. In an interview he admitted he was only using 2 D-strings. (in case 1 would break) !!
Jaco only needed fou-oh wait
🤣
This is so dumb. I'll take 5.
WHAT A FUN BASS! ..... aaaand I'm gonna order one XD. Thank you Patrick! Great video my friend!
STOKED TO SEE WHAT YOU END UP GETTING!
Now that you have a two string bass I gotta ask, could you do a medley of Morphine songs!
That's the exact reason i'd buy one.
🤟 SANDMAN
That's exactly where my mind went when I saw this thing--how do you get anywhere near a two string bass, and not do slide?
He'd have to change the tuning to A and possibly change strings, but yeah any Morphine tunes would be awesome.
Krappy guitar just quadrupled their business. 😁
I love to see it

Massively underated band, mostly due to being unapologetically funny.
I immediately thought of presidents when I saw the thumbnail
Mark Sandman. Mr. Sandman is that song from the 50s.
Perfect for some Presidents of the United States "Peaches" action.

Wow. A bass player playing a real bass part to demonstrate a bass guitar. What a concept. And it sounds really good. He does solid work.
Krappy is great!! I had Kevin build me an 8-string touch bass (like a Stick or Warr) of my own design and it was super quality for very little money!

Mark sandman signature bass?
Morphine. Please look up the group which was called Morphine.
Have you thought about tuning it in fifths, for example D-A? It would be cool for one finger power chords.
That was Mark Sandman's signature tuning
