It was custom made by Monoyasha herself. You can't get a costume like this in a store, and Mono isn't making suits anymore. There is another costume maker who makes costumes like this named Beastcub, but she will not make copyrighted characters on commission, as doing so is illegal.
I do not recommend quadsuits for Any back problems. this does make my back ache a bit after use and I can image it would be much worse for anyone with a medical condition.
i have researched tacking a Nadder myself and yes the puffy paint sticks well to any fuzzy fabrics. only downside is it will take weeks just to make scales for the entire costume and you can only work on about 1ft at a time and let it dry overnight to prevent any possible smearing or accidents.
years ago when I worked in a scare house, I helped construct a big and beautiful stilt beast dragon. He was a labor of love that took six months to build. We decked it out and even put air pressure pistons in his wings that were triggered via a button placed next to your thumb in the armature. He was stunning in every sense of the word, sadly the design was scrapped in favor of a stilt beast Zombie Demon Dog. I've never gotten over the sheer disappointment of having all our hard work go to waste. I'm hoping that next year I can try to rebuild him for Halloween, just on a smaller scale. Regardless, amazing work dear! Your dedication is a labor of love. I hope you never stop being amazing!
sorry to hear your dragon was dropped. I planned sketches of this costumes for 6 months then only had 3 weeks building time before the debut convention....because i was crazy back then. ^^:
the heaviest part are the front arm stilts. overall costume weight is 12 pounds which is not bad at all with the weight distributed through out the suit.
I love that! I wish I could get something like that, maybe when I’m older I’ll get a Night Fury. Not toothless because I want to be a female with blue eyes and a full tail and no saddle. Her name will be Niva.
I do have fun wearing toothless but he only gets worn to one convention a year and this costume really deserves to be out more than that. Plus i have ideas for other large costumes i might want to make in the future and need the room.
Oh, she says in another vid that the fabric is over $200 for 9 yards of microsuede and it took 3 months to make. Easily could see another $200 on top of that for other materials, though. Tips: stay hydrated; with any limited sight costumes especially if you're alone, tour the site prior, to check for problem areas (like stairs) so you know alternate routes.
I'll admit, I'm uber jealous of whoever owns the costume now. XD I wonder though.... If there was a sort of string (fishing line?) attached to the legs and connected to the head, it might allow you to lower the head when standing upright and raise it when on all fours. Much like how the mechanical hand I had uses the string and pulling mechanism to bend the fingers. It starts at the knees or ankles, goes through a flexible tube-like structure along the back, and ends near the chin to implement the IK effect of the head. A similar method could be achieved with the movement of the wearer's head (a headband or helmet-like object with fishing lines attached). The lines intersect at the back of the wearer's neck in an "x" shape so that wen the user moves his or her head to the side, the suit's head will move in the same direction. Another idea is that a gear-like mechanism to rotate the head in the direction your head is facing (rotated).... Maybe even a VR with a camera system to help you see, but that might utilize more resources/battery power, as well as software that specifically works with the VR and camera.... And then there are concerns of how to navigate with loss of power or when the camera system malfunctions.... Still, the fishing line idea's much more simple and uses less resources and battery power.
oh trust me i had all those ideas when the original costume was made but sadly lack of skills and time didn't give me the opportunity to really experiment with all those mechanics. If i made another i would employ many more puppet like aspects to really bring the suit to life
I'm super curious on what you planned out to make this from scratch, did you get a body suit to base the foam around and then pattern out the fabric??? Really curious about the whole process of this thing, I'm very interested in cosplay and would like to start trying make slightly more complex cosplays or even a quadsuit eventually.
i had to build a duct tape dummy of my body in the pank position with the help of my mom at the time. then i started to build a hiking backpack frame from pvc piping and thick nylon straps. from there i could add the neck frame, wings and tail attachment.
For 1st cons, my advice is go with a manageable costume within your skill & budget til you know your limits with con wandering & what you're willing to deal with for a costume. After years of cons & ren fairs, experience has taught me which of my costumes I can wear for how long & will choose accordingly based on the con re: travel, hotel room access, available assistance, etc. I'd estimate Toothless to be at least $50-$120 for suede cloth alone depending on fabric quality. idk for the rest.
Epically Awesome!!! You forgot one thing, though: make sure you go to the bathroom BEFORE you get into the costume. It looks like it'd take half an hour to get out of the thing XD
I've seen a lot of suit up videos. This one looks like it was long and a lot more complicated that regular bipedal fursuits, but the end result is really cool-looking.
“Hey...it looks like the dragon is f*cking her” “You know they can hear you right?” IM SORRY I DIED XD This suit is amassing btw! Most I’ve her done is make tails and ears?? I don’t have the patients and dedication to make something this big.
I've worn costumes similar to this and it's so much fun to mess around in and have people oo and aww over you Haha, it gets a bit uncomfortable FAST though. I'd assume it's very claustraphobic and sweaty in there lol.
are your front shoulders lower than your hips, i have seen other quads and they always seem to have really long front legs to keep them up, however you seem to be really low to the ground stilt wise, just wondering how big the front stilts are
Have you weighed the costume? I can see, from the video, that you are not supporting the entire costume on your back because the tail section is touching the ground. However, the wings and the fan must add some weight on your back. In addition, depending on how long you are bending over on all fours and carrying anything on your back gets weighty.
I love your toothless quadsuit ^^ It's so cute and all. If I could afford it and have the room to have it I would so much buy him from you. I will miss this little fellow :( Byebye Toothless!
Monoyasha, can you make a tutorial to make the cage, head, and materials you used? please I am dying to find every piece of information from only comments, videos, and what you say >.< And also, is there a certain height you need to be? The costume looks small but not small enough for young people.
would you recommend a costume like this to somebody who has minor back problems? i thought about making a quad suit, but since i have a herniated disc, im sure id have to really fit it so my back wouldnt suffer much.
how do you feel physically after a day of cos-playing? i did a Kirby once going from my knees to standing, and for a week after i could hardly walk :p also any tips or hints for anyone thinking of a "quad - cos-play?"
Amazing! i want one so bad. my son thought it was a real toothless dragon lol. im a huge fan of How to train your dragon everything. so this is epicly amazing. i reeeally want one. i so wish dragpns were real... oir world is so boring and plain...y cant dragons or pokemon or superheroes b real... ugh... thank god i still have a good imagination at 28, and thank goodness for vid games and cartoons and anime. but still... i want a pet friend dragon! ph and whoever made this did a great job. i would make the wings and tail move and do a few diff things but im sure it would cost more and b more high tech. this is simple and beautiful. great job. u should make a vid on how to make it!
I had no idea haw hard it was to suit up in your toothless, but at the same time i find it epic on haw it all fits together. :7 Also 6:14 lol naughty xD
Where can I buy such an awesome costume? I mean, i would chance the position of the pupils because else it looks like the dragon is squint-eyed. but the complete costume itself is just fucking awesome. so please tell us, where we can buy this. thank U ;-)
How long did it take you from planning to building, in making your Toothless quadsuit? That looks like a lot of planning and effort that went into his creation.
I remember watching this yearrssss back and it's still the best costume that I've ever seen :')

Monoyasha it is SSOOO amazing!!!!!
I still what one that's a httyd one like Luna or toothless 😊
UA-cam : "Hey, wanna watch a person run around in a Toothless costume, most of it being them getting into the suit?"
Me : *"Of course."*
I'm so glad I found this video again. When I was little I wished for this costume every year for Christmas. This makes me so nostalgic ugh
i have researched tacking a Nadder myself and yes the puffy paint sticks well to any fuzzy fabrics. only downside is it will take weeks just to make scales for the entire costume and you can only work on about 1ft at a time and let it dry overnight to prevent any possible smearing or accidents.

Whoa I wanna see

That costume.... That is insanely well made!!
I love that! I wish I could get something like that, maybe when I’m older I’ll get a Night Fury. Not toothless because I want to be a female with blue eyes and a full tail and no saddle. Her name will be Niva.
Hey the light fury is a female ad and has a full tail
I do have fun wearing toothless but he only gets worn to one convention a year and this costume really deserves to be out more than that. Plus i have ideas for other large costumes i might want to make in the future and need the room.

God you look like a real moving toothless haha I wish I wear that whoo ha

yes there is a fan as explained in the other video. His body weighs around 10 pounds which is very light for what it is.
I've worn costumes similar to this and it's so much fun to mess around in and have people oo and aww over you Haha, it gets a bit uncomfortable FAST though. I'd assume it's very claustraphobic and sweaty in there lol.
