In the realm of herbal medicine, oregano emerges as a potent ally in the treatment of various gastrointestinal issues, including small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). With its rich history in Mediterranean and Italian cuisine, oregano is a herb familiar to many. However, its therapeutic potential extends far beyond the kitchen.
Oregano possesses remarkable antimicrobial properties, making it a versatile option for tackling a range of microbial culprits, from bacteria to fungi. Its efficacy against SIBO, particularly in cases dominated by hydrogen, methane, or hydrogen sulfide, is well-established.
The active constituents of oregano can be broadly categorised into essential oils and non-essential oil polyphenols. Essential oils, such as carvacrol and thymol, are the powerhouse antimicrobial agents in oregano. These oils inhibit bacterial enzyme activity, disrupt bacterial efflux pumps, and even prevent the formation of biofilms-a major challenge in treating bacterial overgrowth. - Наука та технологія
Thank you! Wish there was an herbalist like you in the USA.....can tell that your soul was so meant to do this as a profession this lifetime.
You're too kind! Thanks for the great feedback
One of my favourite videos that you've put out due to the depth you went into. Thanks Todd!
Great feedback! So glad it was helpful
One of your best videos! Great work!
Thanks so much! Appreciate the kind words
Hi there happy new year and wish you all the best if I would vote for the best UA-cam channel definitely this is my number one channel for this year and I really mean it
I love how you go for such detailed analysis of every topic in all your channels plus you do you the point straight forward
I feel that you are an honest person giving advice with love and passion
So thank you so much 😍☺️
Wow thanks so much! I’n so glad the videos have been helpful!
thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us, I wish your clients to heal for good every single time!
Thank you so much!
I love and appreciate how you always talk about the "what ifs" and go beyond just first-line treatments, and you always mention things to be cautious of!
Video requests - definitely the NRF2; Sulforaphane (a la Christine Houghton GEMM protocol); gastritis (not just gerd but inflammation of the gi tract causing hypersensitivity to all herbs including the ones to help gastritis); food poisoning and gut issues; MMC issues; troubleshooting when all treatments fail; SIFO; hypersensitive patients; co-conditions like gastritis + sibo which is so hard to treat as it's a constant dance between the two; a symptom spotlight where you take one symptom and go into the possible causes (specifically requesting one on chronic burping and air build up in the stomach); gallstones/sludge
Love the feedback! I'm going to copy and paste this entire comment into my 'video to do list.' Appreciate it!
Another vote for Chronic burping
Thank you for another informative video. It is interesting how a limit for taking a high dosage is higher than I would imagine, being a, for most part, relatively healthy lay person. It is really nice to learn more about the dosage and duration of the treatments. Thank you!
No problem. So glad it was helpful!
Shoutout from a fellow herb lover, your videos have helped me immensely!!! Thanks for keeping it pure and and not pushing pills and premixes! God bless!
You are so welcome! 🙏
Thank you! I will pass this video along.
appreciate you!
Thanks for the excellent info. I can’t wait to try this. What brand of oil of oregano do recommend?
I like Designs For Health. Their oregano oil is strong and very effective for the right patient.
Great video!
Thanks Susan 😊
Hello, first and foremost, thank you for this video and your knowledge/advices. I live in France, therefore cannot order your product. Is the oregano essential oil potent enough to fight SIBO ? What posology would you suggest please ? Didn't do the test for SIBO yet but i have most of the symptoms since 2 months : constipation, bloating, gas (sometimes hundred of times a day), reflux. I'm 33 years old, took a lot of IPP and got some food poising during a travel in Asia. Thanks in advance.
As I currently understand it SIBO is an overgrowth of good bacteria in the small intestine. So if Oregano Oil kills off these good bacteria, does it also kill good bacteria in the large intestine? Can a dysbiosis occur from that?
Great comment! Yes indeed this is possible hence the short term therapy with stronger killing herbs.
Thanks for info doctor 🙏🙏
Actually m also suffering stomach gas but still not confirmed that i hv SIBO
But according to My symptoms its SIBO i think
Plz suggest me the rit treatment, can i take Oregano essential Oil with water and plz suggest me the rit dose plz reply
very informative thank you! IF we were to use Doterra essential oil in capsules we mix at home with olive oil, how many drops per capsule? thank you!
Ohhh now I know why you wouldn’t see patients in US. Thanks for explaining that but I really really hope you figure out how to resolve that issue and let us international patients benefit from your invaluable knowledge and expertise
Yes indeed! Its a tough one but we're on it. Some colleagues ship in plastic but I'm not so sold on that approach :-)
@@ByronHerbalist I’ll shoot you an email today. Maybe we can somehow work this out. I just hope I can be your patient.
I'm aware you don't work internationally but do you have any recommendations of trustworthy practitioners for the UK/Europe? Very informative videos by the way!
Thanks! Reach out to the clinic we may be able to point you in the right direction
Hello, I have a mild case of methane Sibo and was wondering whether I should take oregano leaf in capsules or oregano oil in capsule ? Because if oregano leaf is still good, I’d rather take a less strong anti microbial, tried allicin but didn’t do too much.
Thank you !
Thanks so much Todd-the drops in water are what I am familiar with-If I do too many all at once, I don't feel well. Thanks for the info and the Designs for Health capsules as an alternative.
So glad its helpful
Would oregano oil be suitable for IMO in large intestine? I also have history with c diff 3 years ago, so is oregano ok to use in this situation?
Do you have any thoughts on GAPS diet? Can you make a video on what diet you recommend please
No huge insight here. I don’t use or recommend the Gaps diet but have seen patients get good results here too
What's your thoughts on using probotics with oregano oil for SIBO?
Love probiotics and recommend them for almost every SIBO patient. More on that soon!
Can only oil oregano kill IMO? Or should I use something with it
Great video, I have histamine issues and am too scared to try the tinctures, would eating fresh or dried oregano help?
Tinctures can be problematic. Here I would suggest whole herbs as tolerated
So you don’t recommend using oregano oil tincture in water to treat methane? I don’t like to take pills
Good evening!
I wanted to know if it's also good for detoxifying from mold exposure?
Also should it be taken with a probiotic, to support the good bacteria? For example, Saccharomyces boulardii?
Thank you!
Yup, its all in the video if that helps. Mould overgrowth in the gut can respond to oregano. Environmental mould would be another approach.
@@ByronHerbalistThank you for the timely response! I would be interested in environmental mold! Is there already a video about it? Thanks for these videos!
Does oregano mother tincture also have these antimicrobial properties, or just the essential oil? Thanks for the work you do!
Yup just less strong compared to the oil :-)
it might be helpful to start with that, at the beginning of therapy!
so oregano leaf powder disrupts biofilm?
Thanks so much for the video! 🙏 Can one’s reaction to taking oregano oil be indicative of an overgrowth? Eg do healthy people have little to no reaction to it? Do people with overgrowth usually experience herx symptoms?
Great point! Yes indeed, the stronger the reaction the more I would be thinking overgrowths that need attention. There are also simply people that don't tolerate such a strong herb too. Thanks for the kind works too :-)
@@ByronHerbalist thanks Todd for the info! 🙏 Super helpful 😊
Will oregano kill good bacteria?
I have SIBO, acid reflux, IBS and all sorts of problems in general. I'm on low FODMAP diet, but what about dry oregano leaf to add it to meals as a spice. How much do you recommend per day, and can it be done for a longer period of time? For now, I add like a teaspoon to my tomato pasta once a week or to dinner, but I figure I probably should take oregano daily and maybe in higher doses
You could have h pylori overgrowth. Watch my vid on how I got rid of it with broccoli sprouts, super easy.
@@SophiaVonHelgasteinwhere can i find your video on how to get rid of h pylori?
@@melissadoner933 it's on my channel
Can you make a video about h pylori?
Sure can! This is a tough one for some so it'll take some time to put together but I'm working on it for you.
Here's a suggestion, Methylene Blue. Research it, very effective, even at doses of 10mg a day even though it's dosage range can typically be 0.5 to 4 mg per kg per day, I wouldn't take that much, but that's just me
this is becoming quite popular
Can you make a video on C.Diff? I have a significantly high level along with so.many.other conditions and overgrowths and feel like treating C.Diff first is where to start.
Sure, let me add it to the list now.
@@ByronHerbalist Thank you 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Something I’m curious about is colonization vs. infection. My toxin A level is 4.23e3 . My calprotectin is 3 so that’s fine, my secretory IgA is borderline low- 623. I have diarrhea on and off but I’ve noticed I have it as soon as I take abx or antimicrobials/antifungals. My GI doc put in an order to test for the microbes but said the lab won’t run it if it’s formed. I feel like bc my number is so high that we should treat as if I have the microbes/infection. I feel like also bc when I do take meds, I immediately get diarrhea/loose stool and the meds don’t work. I’m on my own more than I’m not, protocol wise.

I have heard we can not use oregano oil for longer than 10 days because it's too strong.. also does it kill off both good & bad bacteria? Or only bad?
It is strong. My dosing recommendations are in the video if it helps
Im very curious about the tincture's affects on the esophagus and stomach. Does it burn? I use a product with my clients here in the states that is a coated tablet to target the small intestines but I'm curious about using tinctures.
Most patients tolerate it no problem. The oil tends to be much harder to tolerate in sensitive people
Hi Todd, when you're treating SIBO, do you use a SIBO dietary protocol? If so, is it simply for symptom relief or do you find it necessary to 'stop feeding the overgrowth'. Thank you.
Diet only to improve symptoms 100%. I haven’t found low fodmap does a thing for treating the overgrowth 😊
@@ByronHerbalist thank you for getting back to me 😊
pleasure! Anytime I can I will
@@ByronHerbalisthey what about the oregano capsule ? Is it still effective ? And you can eat chicken or fish with vegetables?
Hi Todd. Can you please answer this question. Im confused a little bit regarding the dosing of the oregano tincture you recommended in this video. You mentioned that you usually have your patients take 7.5 ml of the oregano leaf tincture twice a day and you also mentioned 120ml is about a one month supply for your patients. However when I do the math 7.5 ml twice a day for 30 days would equal about 450ml of the tincture. Can you please clarify this? I wanna make sure I understand correctly. Thanks
Sorry for the confusion there. Typically 120ml of a 1:2 mixed into a combo herb bottle of 540ml with other herbs specific for the case which I'll dose at 7.5ml twice daily
@@ByronHerbalist no worries. Thanks for the explanation. I just recently started taking oregano leaf extract 1:3 ratio, it is just oregano and no other herbs are combined with it. Do i still take 7.5 ml of the tincture twice a day? Thanks for your time.
Saying no worries is .
Well you must have contrast before clarity.
You must have signs of what if, or worrying to know what to do about it .
Duality study it . break the programed surface dwelling comment, like saying no worries.
I don't mean war .
It's peace I seek .
But you must know what you don't want ,to know what you do need
@@sarooshka25 are you better now? Please reply 😢I'm suffering badly from this😭
Do we need an enteric coated oil of oregano to make sure it gets down into the small intestine or will the herbal tincture pass through the stomach and successfully get down there on its own?
The tincture is fine for most, the oregano oil capsules are much stronger when needed 😊
@@ByronHerbalist thank you! Could you also please tell me how far apart I should take a binder after taking oregano oil? Would be much appreciated!
Ladies and Gentlemen, Herb&Spice has a Wild oregano P73 that is phenomenal on HepC G2a people
thanks! Great input
@@ByronHerbalist I'll share my labs with you sir 🙏
has anyone gotten this oregano leaf tincture? i tries to get it online but it doesn't even show at this company PPC anyone has any suggestion I am dying with SIBO cane take the symptoms anymore 😞 by the way does the oregano tincture contained alcohol in it?
Brand name please
I have bad acid reflux and Oregano and Allicin really make it worse and I heard Oregano wipes out to much good gut bacteria. Not sure what to do for really high Methane if I can't take them because of bad reflux?
Maybe look at the possibility of Low stomach acid causing your reflux, low stomach acid can cause dysbiosis, so could be a root cause of your experiences. Then also magnesium deficiency can also contribute to reflux.
Marcus Rohrer spirulina cured my acid reflux after 7 years once . But if you have methane SIBO you need first antibiotics treatment first and then change lifestyle
"look into the possibility" is a great way to put it. Low stomach acid seems to have gone from underdiagnosed to over-diagnosed (based on symptom presentation alone). Testing options are limited but they exist. @@CharlePunt
Thank you! This is such an EXCELLENT reminder of what a powerhouse herb oregano is! I used it a lot in the early days of my SIBO journey -- when I was struggling severely. Oh my!! Talk about a lifesaver!! It is awesome. But as my symptoms got better I was able to taper off a bit and alternate between less potent herbs. Still, oregano is super helpful and effective when my system needs that strong kick again. ❤😊🙏
Thanks Cheryl! Seems like you're through the worst of it thankfully! So glad oregano was a helpful herb
Which brand of Oregano & dosage?
What else has helped you on your SIBO journey? I did 2 rounds of Rifaxin and it didn’t work so taking this route with oregano oil.
@@sshirlyvangClove was/is a big helper, as well. Sadly, I'm still on this journey because now I'm working through Histamine intolerance flare ups and possibly MCAS. I'm having to avoid certain foods, etc. I recently had an extensive blood panel done and prayerfully the upcoming results should bring about some concrete answers. It is an up and down thing. It requires patience and seeing what works. My main advice is: eating a balance of foods that do not trigger symptoms, stay hydrated, and using those great supplements that support the gut. ❤🙏
@@cherylecooper906 aww I’m praying for you. ❤️ thank you for the advice. I’m thinking about doing the carnivore elimination diet along with oil of oregano. 🤞🏼
Does olive leaf work?
I haven't seen this to be so helpful in my practice
Can you treat me?
How do we find out if low stomach acid is causing my Methane SIBO & IMO? Also, which supplement would help with this?
I was diagnosed with SIBO after my stomach issues got not better and my gastroenterologist said many who had covid got SIBO so it may be that? And he was right it turned out to be SIBO ! My gut issues started 3 years ago after I had covid
Low stomach acids test does exist few types
@@theancientsancients1769 I never had covid. I had h pylori years ago & just sensitive stomach overall. My biggest symptoms are the crazy bloating where my stomach feels like it's 6 months pregnant and just bad acid. I just finished Rifaximin & neomycin treatment for SIBO.
low stomach acid can be hard to pin down accurately. I do recommend HCL supplements to some when I suspect this is their issue.
Betaine HCl. One capsule is typically 648 of Betaine HCl, you might need multiple capsules. You can start low and work you way up as needed.
My 12 yo daughter is so sick :( She has EDS, severe POTS, chronic fatigue, allodynia, SIBO (methane went up to 74 at about 90 mins in), and possibly mold and lyme....where on earth do I start? I have her on HCL, digestive enzymes, binders (I wake her in the middle of the night so they don't absorb her nutrients), Beyond Balance Pro Myco herbal blend, another herbal blend for the immune system, magnesium citrate, threonate, glycinate, antioxidants and am using photobiomodulation therapy. She is not getting better she just gets worse every year! She has large lymphnodes and this year has lost 10lbs and is now underweight at 69lbs and under hte lowest curve for her BMI centile.....we are grain free do lots of fats, homemade fermented yogurt, meats etc etc. I cannot get this ship turned around no matter what I do :(
So sorry to hear. That must be such a stressful situation! I wouldn't be able to make direct recommendations here but for a patient that unwell that I was working with I would recommend an OAT test from Mosaic labs here mosaicdx.com/test/organic-acids-test/
thank you for your reply. Yes it is very stressful - I'm so worried for her future. I've just ordered the DUTCH test.....it has some of the Oat in it too I think? Hopefully that will help....but it's all in the interpretation .... she tested positive for some mycotoxins in the urine but I don't feel certain if that means what our ND says it means...the information is just all over the place. @@ByronHerbalist
Vitamin B1 might work for her POTS, have you tried that?
Do you have a store to purchase your products? I’m in USA.
Sorry nothing yet

Too bad you don’t treat international clients 😢
tinctur has alcohol and is no good for histamin Intolerance.
mostly that is the case. We're discussing SIBO here, not so much severe histamine intolerance...
Unfortunately you never reply on your UA-cam channel 😂

i have taken a lot of oregano .... 0 results ...
not the right herb for you unfortunately
no, but its not all about herbs and killing .... you will need enzymes as well (even more than herbs) good food and the right probiotik ...
